In this week's edition of the Flavors of Northwest Arkansas podcast we talk with Kyle Alexander of R.G. Macon and Carson Apple Brandy, and their story goes back into the 1800's in Bentonville. But before we hear from Kyle?? FOOD NEWS!! We'll hear about the new steakhouse atop the Hotel Avail in Rogers, Oak Steakhouse. If you're watching on YouTube, prepare for some gorgeous views The original Slim Chickens will reopen soon with a new concept. According the Axios NWA, the volume of craft beer sold by Arkansas breweries is dominated by NWA. Cobblestone Farms is looking for their next leader. The Feral Pig made it official last Sunday! Airship Coffee has opened on the Walmart Campus, we'll tell you where and what to expect. Dodo Coffee has broken ground in Fayetteville. Happy Anniversary to the Venesian Inn and Gaskins on Emma! Back in the late 1800's, R.G. Macon & Carson made Apple Brandy just off the Bentonville square, in a dry county where they couldn't even sell a bottle legally. Believe it or not, they got so popular in the late 1800's to early 1900's that they were the first nationally known entrepreneurs from Bentonville. How big did they get? You'll hear. What happened to them when prohibition hit? It's quite the story. Kyle Alexander is one of the partners running Macon & Carson, and he knows their history better than anyone. He also tells us what's going on with them today in this edition of Northwest Arkansas!

It's Tuesday, July 1, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Adam McManus Chinese Communists give pastors 3 years in jail for leading church Three pastors from Linfen Covenant Home Church in Shanxi, China have been sentenced to 2-4 years of prison time for various charges related to their leading an unregistered church in the communist country. The church issued a statement, announcing that “We honor the service of Li Jie, Han Xiaodong, and Wang Qiang who suffered for righteousness, and we are willing to bear the cross with the Lord. We receive this verdict with a grateful and obedient heart.” Jesus offers this encouragement in Revelation 2:10 -- “Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Brazilian homeschool mother facing $20,000 of fines Today, a Brazilian court will hear a case of a mom prosecuted for homeschooling her son.   Regiane Cichelero is facing fines of $20,000 and threats of losing custody of her child, for choosing home education on religious grounds.  Alliance Defending Freedom International has taken up the case.  Her legal counsel, Julio Pohl, pointed out that “No parent should fear state punishment for choosing to homeschool their child. Regiane made a lawful and conscientious decision to teach her son at home. We are hopeful that the court will affirm her rights and take an important step toward protecting parental rights in Brazil.”   Regiane continues to homeschool despite the risks involved. Pray for this case, which may serve as a precedent for the other 70,000 homeschooled children in Brazil.   Victory of Christian Colorado camp over transgender agenda Also, Alliance Defending Freedom has announced a favorable settlement for the Idrahaje Christian Camp in Bailey, Colorado. The camp was under threat of losing its license for refusing to submit to state requirements regarding the transgendering of bathrooms and living quarters. The name of the camp is taken from the phrase “I'd rather have Jesus more than anything!”  They use the first two letters of the first four words. The State of Colorado agreed not to take any enforcement action against Camp IdRaHaJe for violation of the gender identity requirements. The state has also clarified in a memo on its website that “churches, synagogues, mosques, or any other place that is principally used for religious purposes” are exempt from the transgendering requirements. Syria's own government helped massacre 1,500 Alawites Reuters has reported on its investigation of the Syrian massacre of 1,500 Alawites in March of this year. The perpetrators included units belonging to the new government based in Damascus. Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa of the Free Syrian Army and Al-Qaeda took over Syria in January of this year. The new government has also instituted a constitution stating that  “The religion of the President of the Republic is Islam. … Islamic jurisprudence is the principal source of legislation.” This constitutes a step up in Islamic rule over Syria. According to Open Doors, Syria is the 18th most dangerous country worldwide for Christians. Iraq allows Muslim men to “marry” 9-year-old girls The new Iraqi government is also following Islamic Sharia law closely. Earlier this year, Iraq's parliament voted to give Islamic courts more control in family law, and permit child marriages for girls as young as nine years of age.  Supreme Court allows parents to opt kids out & requires porn sites to verify age Here in America, the U.S. Supreme Court is allowing parents opt-out rights for their elementary-aged children from having to participate in homosexual-themed lessons. That comes by a vote of 6 to 3. Writing for the majority, Justice Samuel Alito emphasized that “What the parents seek here is not the right to micromanage the public school curriculum, but rather to have their children opt out of a particular educational requirement that burdens their well-established right ‘to direct ‘the religious upbringing' of their children'” under  the free exercise clause of the First Amendment.  Another 6-3 ruling, the High Court has also upheld a Texas Law requiring pornographic websites to verify users are over 18 years of age.  Only adults will be allowed into these sinful activities. Writing for the majority, Justice Clarence Thomas concluded, ”The power to require age verification is within a State's authority to prevent children from accessing sexually explicit content.” But, in Matthew 5:27-28, Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.'  But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” U.S. government buying its own bonds The U.S. government is buying back its own bonds. Barchart reports the largest buyback in history occurred earlier this month.  Under the direction of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the department bought $10 billion of its own bonds.  Federal Reserve on the ropes The Federal Reserve issued $150 billion of bonds in May, but only managed to sell half of them.   Also, the Fed has recorded its first two-year-in-a-row financial loss, totaling $192 billion in 2023 and 2024. This is the first time this has occurred in the Fed's 110-year history. Year to date,  the federal deficit  stands at $1.37 billion as of the end of May. That's 14% higher than last year at this time.  Dad jumps into ocean off Disney Cruise ship to save daughter Here's a story demonstrating a remarkable act of courage and love on the part of a dad. A young child fell off the fourth deck of a Disney cruiseliner on Sunday.   Her father took immediate action, dove in after her. . . and held her while treading water, until a rescue boat pulled them out of the ocean waters. An eyewitness explained what happened to WPLG News. EYEWITNESS: “They were playing shuffleboard that was on the fourth floor. The parents were playing, and then the little girl was climbing up on the railing and flew off.” One passenger said,  “The ship was moving quickly, so quickly, it's crazy how quickly the people became tiny dots in the sea, and then you lost sight of them.” Another passenger said, “I saw the mother crying and but when they rescued them, I think that's when the tears really started flowing.  I prayed to God to save them, and He did!” The Disney Dream was heading back from the Bahamas to Fort Lauderdale when the incident occurred. Worldview teens share their hearts 15-year-old Titus Beran in Omaha, Nebraska wrote me at Adam@TheWorldview.com. He said, “I love the verses included in the newscast! They really help me focus back on God's Word and bring every area of life, even politics and news, into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” And 16-year-old Leah Smith in Franklin, Kentucky wrote, “I have been subscribed to The Worldview in 5 Minutes for a little over a year. I don't watch the news on a regular basis, but have been continually blessed by the ministry of this website. It is so irregular to have such a concise, non-secular newscast that makes me aware of political news, needs of persecuted Christians, and even basic information that keeps me up to date on what is going on. “When I read your newscast transcript,  I am not only encouraged by stories of fellow believers, but I am also moved to pray for the issues in our world. God is truly using your Christian newscast to reach people with the truth. It has been a blessing in my life!” What Troy's three boys enjoy about The Worldview Troy in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas talked to his three sons -- Sovereign, age 12, Shalom, age 10, and Apollos, age 7 -- about The Worldview. They said, “I like to start my morning at breakfast listening to it.” “I like how I get to hear about people around the world who need Jesus.”  And “I like that I can hear the news which is filtered through a Biblical lens.” Troy added, “We praise the Lord for all of you and your diligent service to the Lord. It is so exciting to hear about donors from all over the world who are united to us in Christ. What an encouraging example to our younger generation. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” 42 Worldview listeners gave $12,534.95 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $123,500 goal by yesterday, June 30, to fully fund The Worldview's annual budget for our 6-member team, 42 listeners stepped up to the plate. The Christian in the Cult: And How I Discovered Humanity in Christ by Jim Valekis Amazon.com Smilingicon.com Jim Valekis' The Christian in the Cult: And How I Discovered Humanity in Christ uses the author's life story to take us deep inside the culture of the Greek Orthodox Church, Herbert Armstrong's Worldwide Church of God, and modern Evangelicalism. After journeying through three versions of "the only true church," Valekis deftly invites his readers to join him in his ongoing discovery of humanity in Christ and what it can mean for the church and the world. Endorsement: Millions of religious believers will clearly recognize the spiritual journey narrated by Jim Valekis in this powerful story. A son of the Greek Orthodox Church finds himself in Herbert W. Armstrong's Worldwide Church of God, which eventually takes him into more traditional Christianity and out again. Where he ends up at the end of this fascinating pilgrimage will be a big surprise. But Valekis astutely narrates his journey and brings readers along with him to a spiritual destination that includes the whole world. In a religious and political landscape that has become a culture war of all against all, Valekis's final message of oneness and wholeness in Christ is a welcome antidote.─Andrew Manis, Emeritus Professor of History Middle Georgia State University, Macon, Georgia In your hands is a book that speaks powerfully to both the complexities of living and growing in the Church, and to the way God moves in our individual lives as believers. Through the story of author Jim Valekis, we see a riveting faith testimony passed from one generation of family to another -- across cultures, continents, and denominations. We experience through Jim's journey how our Christian faith can ground us and cover us spiritually, despite a fallen world, broken relationships, and vocational volatility. Jim reminds us that while our conditions and surroundings rise and fall, our steadfast relationship with Christ is All. I commend this book to you. ─Chuck Proudfit, President At Work On Purpose About the Author: Jim Valekis was born in Alabama with a "bouzouki" on his knee. His Greco-American parents raised their family as part of a thriving Greek Orthodox community in Birmingham. As a teenager captivated by the radio teachings of Herbert W. Armstrong, Valekis defied his roots and eventually followed a call to pastor in the Worldwide Church of God. When the former cult transitioned into Evangelicalism, Jim followed, continuing to pastor in Grace Communion International. Most recently Valekis co-founded the vision for the Tipp Center, a faith-based business and resource hub, where he is the chaplain. Jim holds a master's degree in Biblical Studies from Earlham School of Religion. He enjoys hanging out with his wife Becky, biking, painting, and sharing (especially over Greek comfort food) how his new theological understanding connects back in profound ways with the ancient Trinitarian fabric of his Orthodox upbringing, a relational Christ-centered fabric expansive enough to include every human being.

Trump warns Iranian civilians to evacuate Tehran; Supreme Court: Religious groups cannot be compelled to fund abortion; Alabama has most people with Biblical worldview, Rhode Island the least

It's Wednesday, June 18th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark and Adam McManus Pakistani Muslims level false accusations against Christians Muslims in Pakistan are using the country's blasphemy laws to target religious minorities. Human Rights Watch released a report on the issue, entitled, “A Conspiracy to Grab the Land: Exploiting Pakistan's Blasphemy Laws for Blackmail and Profit.” For example, Christians experience false accusations of blasphemy against Islam. Locals then weaponize the accusations by inciting mob violence against Christians and seizing their property.  Sadly, the government does little to nothing about such attacks. Pakistan is ranked eighth on the Open Doors' World Watch List of the most difficult places to be a Christian.  Psalm 14:4 asks, “Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, who eat up My people as they eat bread, and do not call on the LORD?” Trump warns Iranian civilians to evacuate Tehran U.S. President Donald Trump called for Iranian civilians to evacuate their capital city of Tehran this week as fighting between Israel and Iran escalates.  And yesterday, he wrote on Truth Social, “We know exactly where the so-called ‘Supreme Leader' is hiding.  ... We are not going to take him out. ... at least not for now. But we don't want missiles shot at civilians, or American soldiers. Our patience is wearing thin.” A senior White House official told Fox News that U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities are on the table.  Supreme Court: Religious groups cannot be compelled to fund abortion On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed a lower court ruling that had previously forced religious groups to fund abortions. The state of New York required groups, including churches, to cover abortions in their health insurance plans for employees. Religious groups have been challenging the policy for years. Attorney Noel Francisco commented on the case. He said, “Religious groups in the Empire State should not be forced to provide insurance coverage that violates their deeply held religious beliefs. We are confident that New York will finally get the message and stop discriminating against religious objectors.” House voted to cut $9 billion in foreign aid and public broadcasting The U.S. House of representatives narrowly passed a measure to cut $9 billion in funding for foreign aid and public broadcasting.  The House approved the legislation by a vote of 214-212 last Thursday.  House Speaker Mike Johnson commented, “It is just one of the ways Republicans are codifying DOGE's findings and putting taxpayer dollars to better use.” The bill faces an uncertain future in the U.S. Senate. Children's Hospital in Los Angeles closes its transgender center The Children's Hospital in Los Angeles recently announced it will close its so-called “Center for Transyouth Health and Development” next month.  The center performed sex mutilating surgeries and offered puberty-blocking drugs to children.  The announcement follows an executive order from President Trump that bans federal funding for transgender operations for minors. Alabama has most people with Biblical worldview; Rhode Island the least Dr. George Barna released a new report on the worldview of Americans ranked by state. The report notes that only 4% of U.S. adults hold to a Biblical worldview. However, that number varies by state. The states with the highest proportion of adults with a Biblical worldview are Alabama at 12.6%, Mississippi at 12.5%, South Carolina at 9.8%, and Arkansas at 9%. States with the least proportion of adults with a Biblical worldview are Rhode Island at 0.25%, Maine at 1.1%, Nebraska at 1.5% and Massachusetts at 1.8%.  Even though states like Alabama and Mississippi have a higher incidence of adults with a Biblical worldview, Dr. Barna noted, “In absolute terms, every state in the union is failing miserably at developing the biblical worldview among its residents.” Isaiah 55:7 says, “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.” Worldview listeners in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Kentucky share their hearts I invited Worldview listeners to share what they enjoy about the newscast in 2-6 sentences by email.  You can share your thoughts — along with your full name, city and state — and send it to adam@TheWorldview.com Barabara Resheske in Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin wrote, “I read every word of The Worldview transcript because it confirms my belief that the world is in turmoil, but Christ is in control. I pray when you request prayers for the persecuted. I thank you for telling us what the mass media doesn't.  Indeed, I thank you for truth, honesty, and transparency.” Ruth Stapp in Edmond, Oklahoma wrote, “I love The Worldview and look forward to seeing it every day. Your information is exactly what I need. I do not enjoy watching the news on TV because of the bias and lies. Plus, your newscast gives me an opportunity to delve further into any of the stories that spark my interest through the links you provide.”  And Daniel Wojnicki in Louisville, Kentucky. wrote,  “I enjoy that The Worldview gives facts and news insights all in one short newscast. Because it's a Christian news source, there is no distortion of the truth.  Being informed about the truth is very rare these days, especially in an age ruled by corrupted news anchors.” 8 Worldview listeners gave $3,022 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $92,625 goal by this Friday, June 20th  to fund three-quarters of The Worldview newscast's annual budget for our 6-member team, 8  listeners stepped up to the plate as of 4:00pm Central yesterday afternoon. Our thanks to Margaret in Raleigh, North Carolina who gave $25 and Jessica in Delmar, Maryland who gave $50. We're grateful to God for Mandy in Walpole, New Hampshire and Max in Macon, Georgia – both of whom gave $200 as well as Rose in Everson, Washington who gave $247. And we were touched by the generosity of Carlee in Keswick Ridge, New Brunswick, Canada who pledged $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300, Susan in San Antonio, Texas who gave $1,000, and Scooter in Naples, Florida who gave $1,000 to match Susan's gift. Those 8 Worldview listeners gave a total of $3,022. Ready for our new grand total? Drum roll please.  (Drum roll sound effect) $46,896.70 (People clapping and cheering sound effect)   Toward this Friday, June 20th's goal of $92,625, we need to raise $45,728.30. Remember, if you are one of the final 2 people who will give a one-time gift of $1,000, Scooter in Naples, Florida will match you with a corresponding $1,000 gift of his own.  I am wondering if there are two businesspeople in our listening audience  – two -- who would consider a generous $10,000 matching gift if 5 other listeners gave a one-time gift of $2,000. If you are one of those 2 businesspeople, please email me at adam@TheWorldview.com and include your phone number so we can chat. I need to find 20 Worldview listeners who will pledge $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. And another 40 listeners to pledge $25/month for 12 months for a gift of $300. Go to TheWorldview.com and click on Give on the top right. Your gift will help us fund the 6-member Worldview newscast team for another fiscal year. It's Tuesday, June 17th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson and Adam McManus North Korean Christian, arrested in 2007, has disappeared International Christian Concern remembers another persecuted saint today among those who have disappeared into the hands of a tyrannical state.  Kim Sung-sik of North Korea, who was arrested at the age of 49 in 2007 at his home, was remembered for distributing Bibles and for handing out gifts to needy folks. A North Korean defector described this man of God as having “character like steel.” He never bowed to anyone, and would even confront public officers for accepting bribes. His grandfather was a Presbyterian minister who had been persecuted and imprisoned by the Communist regime. Sung-Sik's wife and children, who were also arrested, have also disappeared. According to Open Doors, North Korea is the most dangerous place worldwide to live  as a Christian. Chinese Communists want churches to sing worship songs praising communism The Chinese Communist Party, China's ruling political class, released a plan on May 7 mandating that Protestant churches include songs in their worship praising communism. Sadly, reports of Protestants representing the official Three-Self Patriotic church indicate they are complying with the new regulations. Nigerian Muslims massacred 200 villagers, mostly Catholic This just in from Truth Nigeria. Fulani Muslim jihadists massacred 200 villagers from the farming community in Guma County located in Benue State. Most of the residents are Catholics. Witnesses report that  40 gunmen stormed the village shouting “Allahu Akbar.” The terrorists opened fire on civilians while setting homes on fire, and killing indiscriminately. Over 10,000 survivors who escaped are now needing clean water, medical aid, and facilities to house them. Equipping the Persecuted ministry is collecting resources to provide for immediate needs.   Over the last two years, 10,217  Nigerians have been killed in Muslim-inspired massacres, and about 6,900 of those killings have occurred in Benue State. Israel bombed 80 more Iranian targets In its ongoing war with Iran, Israel bombed 80 more targets on Sunday. At least 200 Iranians have died thus far in the attacks. The International Atomic Energy Agency's director Rafael Grossi has stated that Iran's underground nuclear development has not been compromised at this point. Global military spending up 37% Sabers are rattling. Louder than ever. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute's Yearbook, published on Monday, world military spending rose by 37 percent in the past decade, and by 9.4 percent last year alone, to $2.7 trillion.  That's the largest bump since the early 1990s. China and India are installing nuclear bombs on warheads. That's a change in policy for these countries.   China is up to 600 nukes, and North Korea has enough fissile materials for 90 total warheads. Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.” South Korea's largest homosexual pride parade South Korea is touting its largest homosexual pride parade ever this year.  The organizers claim 170,000 participants. South Korea has absorbed western immorality faster than other eastern countries. The proportion of South Koreans holding that homosexuality is never justified decreased from 67% in the 1990s to 24% in the most recent survey. That's even lower than Taiwan -- the most pro-homosexual country in Asia. The Christian faith is falling off by generations in South Korea. At this point, 29% of their elderly people adhere to the Protestant faith, but only 13% of the 18 to  29-year-old age group call themselves Protestant Christians. Psalm 78:9 warns of “The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle. They did not keep the covenant of God; They refused to walk in His law, and forgot His works and His wonders that He had shown them.” The rise of apostacy in America and China Christian apostasy continues to rise across the world. The recent Pew Research report on worldwide religious affiliation found that 35 nations have seen an increase between 2010 and 2020 in atheism or a non-affiliation with a church. And 40 nations have seen a substantial decrease in people aligning themselves with the Christian faith.   Of all nations in the world, the United States has the second largest number of atheists or people unaffiliated with a church -- at 100 million people. China has the largest number of atheists or unaffiliated at 1.3 billion.   Christians are still in the majority in 60% of the world's nations, while Muslims are in the majority in 26% of the countries. U.S. unemployment 4.2%, but higher for recent college grads Unemployment in the United States is running at 4.2%. But for recent college grads  -- ages 22 through 27 -- the rate stands at 5.8% — the highest since 202, according to the US Labor Department. Minnesota political assassin captured Sunday night The gunman, Vance Boelter, wanted in the slaying of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband, as well as in the shooting of a state senator and his wife, was found Sunday night armed and crawling in a field in a sparsely populated stretch of Minnesota, reports NBC News. Police Chief Mark Bruley of the Brooklyn Park Police Department said it was without a doubt the biggest manhunt in the state's history. Authorities allege Boelter, age 57, who posed as a policeman, tried to kill state Senator John Hoffman, a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, at their home in Champlin at roughly 2 a.m. Saturday before fatally shooting state Rep. Melissa Hortman, a 55-year-old Democrat, and her husband, Mark, in nearby Brooklyn Park. Boelter was arrested without incident.   His motive is still unclear. NBC Chicago reports that police found a manifesto in Boelter's car with the names of 70 politicians including those in Illinois and Wisconsin. Worldview listeners in Georgia and Indiana and share their hearts I invited Worldview listeners to share what they enjoy about the newscast in 2-6 sentences by email.  You can share your thoughts — along with your full name, city and state — and send it to adam@TheWorldview.com Max Wood in Macon, Georgia wrote, “Let not your heart be troubled by the slow response this year to your annual fundraising campaign. Americans are more mobile and active this summer than last because of the improved economy. You and the team produce a quality product that blesses many and will, in turn, be blessed by God. Keep the faith. American Miracles don't just happen on movie screens.” And Mary Collins in Elkhart, Indiana wrote, “I LOVE your newscast!  Every day in our homeschool, I read the “good news” stories to my kids.  I LOVE that you use biblical language; it helps us also think in such terms.  I love that I can trust it to be from a Biblical worldview and I don't have to sift through any jargon.  I love that I can trust it to be accurate and from God's perspective! I love that sometimes you include interesting things that no other news outlet would even consider.  We have sure enjoyed those neat stories. THANK YOU for such a quality way to stay up to date with the world's current events.” 14 Worldview listeners gave $4,982.50 to fund our annual budget And finally, toward our $92,625 goal by this Friday, June 20th  to fund three-quarters of The Worldview newscast's annual budget, 14  listeners stepped up to the plate. Our thanks to Cody in Hortense, Georgia who gave $32.50 as well as Braelon in Lincoln, Nebraska, Christina in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and Joshua in Hortense, Georgia – each of whom gave $50. We're grateful to God for Eric in Tazewell, Virginia and Henry in Tazewell, Virginia –- both of whom gave $100 as well as James in  Kennewick, Washington who gave $200, and Richard and LeAnn in Zeeland, North Dakota who gave $300. And we were touched by the generosity of Donovan in Denton, Texas, William in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, and Madilynn in Green City, Missouri – each of whom gave $500, as well as Kathryn in Reddick, Florida who pledged $50 per month for 12 months for a gift of $600, Stephen in California, Maryland who gave $1,000, and Scooter in Naples, Florida who will match Stephen's gift with another $1,000. Those 14 Worldview listeners gave a total of $4,982.50. Ready for our new grand total? I'm wondering whether you might be one of four Worldview listeners to give $5,000 today. In order to raise the remaining amount, I need to find 23 Worldview listeners who will pledge $50/month for 12 months for a gift of $600. All the links - LINKTR.EE/BARBARAFAISON On Thursday last week, I was out running errands before my part-time job at the Stockbridge local library and I had a taste for Cracker Barrel pancakes so I decided I would stop there before I went to work. I didn't have to be at work until 4 PM so I was having a late breakfast. As I walked up to the hostess stand another woman walked up exactly at the same time. We greeted the hostess, and said one when she asked how many people were in our party. She said she would seat us at the same time and we followed her into the restaurant. The other woman being seated turned around to me and said something like do you feel weird like me, when you eat by yourself? I don't mind eating alone, it gives me an opportunity to do my word search or read or just be. I said “Do you wanna join me for lunch?”We sat down, and Sandy and I had a delightful lunch/breakfast. Interestingly enough, the food inspectors were there so our food was delayed by quite a few minutes which gave us even more time to chat and enjoy our adventure. I asked Sandy a question and she continued sharing information about herself. At one point, she did say I've been talking a lot, tell me something about you.We chatted about work, family, and life in general. When the food finally came, I was able to eat a little bit before I had to leave to go to work. I said my goodbyes and smiled at Adventure #1.At the library we have monthly programs for adults, young adults, and children. On this day, we were doing Mahjong. One of the games I play online is Mahjong, it is different playing on the computer than in person. In person there needs to be four people, and I volunteered if they needed additional people/staff for the program.I was really excited when they needed a fourth. I sat down and learned how to play American Mahjong. I really enjoyed it, it's stimulating and fun. We played three games and although I didn't win, I had a blast. Adventure #2 complete.On Saturday afternoon, my husband, TD and I drove down to Albany, Georgia, my hometown. We attended game night as part of my 45th high school reunion activities. I don't remember the last one I went to, I know it's been about 10 years. Thanks to Facebook and Instagram I have several classmates that follow me and join me on my breath breaks and some may even listen to my podcast. Lol. Thanks to all that do!It was a blast! We played games, laughed, had school trivia, food, and fellowship. I am so glad I went. Adventure #3!Lunch with a stranger, playing a new game in person, Mahjong, and going to my 45th High School reunion. And we stopped by the Bass Pro Shop in Macon, Ga on the way back… that was sort of an adventure, so I'll call it 3.5 adventures in four days! lolDid I start the week planning those adventures? I did not... I just let life do what life does... and I said yes!

Approachably Cool: 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo: 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hatch

This week's episode of America on the Road features road tests of two standout vehicles--the 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring hatchback and the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo. Co-Host Chris Teague put the Civic Sport Touring hatchback to the asphalt, and he found it to be one of the best values in the stellar Civic lineup. Powered by a hybrid system pairing a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle engine and electric motor, it delivers 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. With 50 mpg city and 45 highway, it's one of the most efficient compact cars available, while at the same time delivering laudable performance. Four drive modes, a refined suspension, a 9-inch infotainment screen with Google built-in, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and full Honda Sensing safety suite round out a well-equipped, tech-forward package. He'll offer a full report. Host Jack Nerad took the wheel of the 2025 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Turbo, a $39,455 compact SUV with 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque from a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine. All-wheel drive, a six-speed automatic, and premium touches like Terracotta leather-trimmed seats and a 10-speaker Bose system give it a refined edge. Though fuel economy sits at 24 mpg combined, the CX-5 impresses with its sophistication, design, and feature-rich value. And it is arguably the most fun-to-drive vehicle in its segment. At the same time, its price might surprise -- or even shock-- you. At the top of the news, we detail the debut of the 2026 Lexus RZ, now offered in three EV variants, including the new 402-horsepower F SPORT. Lexus has improved its range, added fast charging, and introduced performance upgrades like “M Mode,” which simulates manual shifting. Meanwhile, the 2026 Honda CR-V gets tech and trim upgrades, including a new off-road-ready TrailSport Hybrid model with standard AWD and improved fuel economy. All trims now offer wireless phone integration and larger screens. Not to be outdone, Toyota pulled the wraps off the all-new 2026 RAV4, the CR-V's chief nemesis, and we'll have more details on its gala introduction next week. In this week's auto-political news, a U.S. Senate resolution could overturn California's authority to enforce its 2035 all-EV mandate. Backed by automakers and dealers, supporters argue it protects national market consistency, while critics warn it could undercut state autonomy and slow EV adoption. Another legal battle has emerged between the California New Car Dealers Association and Honda/Sony over direct-to-consumer Afeela EV sales. The CNCDA claims these sales violate franchise laws requiring manufacturers to work through licensed dealers. The case may set a major precedent as EV startups and joint ventures explore nontraditional retail models. Also in the news, General Motors has halted U.S. exports to China, citing trade tensions and the winding down of its premium Durant Guild brand. GM will continue operating in China through joint ventures, but this move signals shifting priorities amid rising tariffs and regulatory uncertainty. This week's guest, Andre Ravinowich, Senior Manager of Product Planning at Hyundai, joins the show to talk about the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 9, a large electric SUV set to broaden Hyundai's EV lineup with space, performance, and tech innovation. Nerad drove the new battery-electric wonder during a Hyundai-sponsored event in Savannah, Georgia. To close out the show, the listener question of the week comes from Stanley in Macon, Georgia, who asks: “What's your take on the return of sedans and smaller cars? Are they gone for good, or do you think there will be a comeback for cars?” Jack and Chris weigh in, noting that while crossovers dominate, rising vehicle prices, tighter parking, and renewed interest in efficiency could trigger a modest resurgence for sedans and compacts—especially hybrids and EVs. Jack Nerad's newest book Jack is now offering his newest crime novel, Only One Thing Stays the Same,

Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso, presented by our friends at Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse. It's rivalry weekend in MLS, and it's kind of fitting that Atlanta hosts Philadelphia on Saturday night. Not sure if the league truly sees it as a rivalry, but it's felt that way on the field over the past few years. Philly won 3-0 earlier this season and Atlanta will be trying to build on their draw in Austin from Wednesday night. Philly came back to win 3-2 on a late goal from Tai Baribo against the LA Galaxy on Wednesday. Georgia HS state champions have been crowned the and the season will come to a close tonight in Duluth and in Macon. It's the 2A state championships in Macon, our friend Matteen Rad will be on the call for the NFHS Network there as Drew Charter's boys face Shaw while Pike County's girls play Savannah Arts. Madison Crews and I will be in Duluth for 5A as Roswell's girls try to finish the season unbeaten as they play Northgate while Sprayberry's boys try to knock off top ranked River Ridge. Join us on the NFHS Network starting at 5pm.Barcelona won their 28th La Liga title against their rivals Espanyol as Lamine Yamal scored another brilliant goal. It's a treble year for the Blaugrana as they added to their previously won SuperCopa and Copa del Rey. However, it wouldn't be Barcelona if there were stories about financial silliness. They're trying to get the VIP ticket sale completed that somehow allowed them to register Dani Olmo and Pau Victor done in order to help their accounts and salary limit for next season. Watch the video as I try to make sense of it all (probably failing to do so). Be on the lookout on our social media accounts (@SoccerDownHere) for clips from Jude Bellingham today as he spoke to FIFA this week about Real Madrid's ambitions for the upcoming Club World Cup. It's a big opportunity for them to start the Xabi Alonso era off right. They're also trying to add CB Dean Huijsen and LB Alvaro Fernandez ahead of the tournament. Inter is trying to add Marseille winger Luis Henrique as well as 3-4 other players for the tournament. They're also trying to win Serie A and the Champions League before that. They host 5th place Lazio this weekend while league leaders Napoli travel to relegation threatened Parma. A win for Napoli combined with a loss for Inter would send the trophy south to Naples. Anything else sees it come down to the final weekend. More in the video and podcast, Morning Espresso will be back on Monday morning to recap the weekend.Have a great weekend y'all!
