Honored to chat with Rob Steger and Marianne Hogan. I have followed Rob's work with Training for Ultra with his podcast and book for several years. He also just released a documentary on Marianne, called Marianne Runs, that followed her 2022 Western States and UTMB double. We got to chat about the opposites of weather that they have endured and about Marianne's return to running after overcoming injury. A few sponsors they would like to shoutout would be Naak, Ciele, Salomon, Hammer, XOSKIN, Tanri Outdoors.
Join in as I chat with Marianne Hogan and Rob Steger! Marianne came back from a major injury and podiumed at Western States and UTMB in 2022! Get this - Western States was her first 100 mile race and UTMB was her second! Rob, of Training for Ultra, was there to capture it all on camera! It was great getting to visit with them and hear all about it. Be sure to check out the Youtube video in the show notes! http://www.theriot.run/t4u2
This week we are chatting with Marianne Hogan about her phenomenal 2022 racing season and Rob Steger about what it was like to capture this experience for their new film "Marianne Runs". Marianne put it all out on the line and finished 3rd place Western States and 2nd place UTMB back in 2022. In this episode we chat all about what this experience was like from both the athlete and the filmmaker perspective! Hope you enjoy! You can find the film here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XZMxVfj2-g

Training for Ultra is the brainchild of ultramarathon runner Rob Steger and includes a website, an Amazon TV series, multiple films, a self-published book, and a globally ranked podcast. Rob started running in 2015 and since then he has run 30 ultramarathons including four 200-milers. He is currently getting into race directing and recently hosted his first virtual 50k! On his podcast, Training for Ultra, he has hosted numerous guests including Eliud Kipchoge, Courtney Dauwalter, Camille Herron, Dean Karnazes and many other fascinating people from the running world. Rob hopes to use his platform to inspire people to enjoy running and find fulfillment in life through healthier lifestyles and more time outside. We were so honored to be able to talk with Rob. He is very busy with several projects going on, we had to pull him away from editing for our chat. We had some questions lined up, but our conversation went in another direction. Rob shares his struggles with dyslexia and how he embraced his learning difference and used it to succeed in many areas “Embrace failure and learn from it”. We also talk about Running the Triple Crown and the why behind it. Rob is someone who cares about helping others and is using his platform to support and encourage people. This was a very special episode. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! This week we are sitting down to chat with two of my favorite guests from the last year of podcasting- Brittany Charboneau and Rob Steger. We last talked with Brittany right after she finished 13th in the Olympic Trials and since then she has added "accomplished trail runner" to her resume by winning the Pikes Peak Marathon and setting some big time trail FKTs. Rob Steger of Training For Ultra is an accomplished ultra runner, author, and podcaster who has recently began diving into adventure filmmaking. Over the last six months, Rob created a short film about Brittany called "The Funny Runner" which explores the themes of running with a lighthearted joy and following your own path versus fitting inside someone else's perception of a "professional athlete." The film is an absolute delight to watch and inspires the viewer to pursue their own passions in their own unique way! You can check out an early sneak peek of the film by supporting Rob on the Training for Ultra Patreon on April 10th or view it on Youtube starting April 16 (both links are in the show notes). Hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did!! Plus I got to nerd out about Hamilton in the outro! This week I am very excited to welcome the fantastic runner Alyssa Clark to the podcast! Alyssa has one of the most outstanding stories I've heard in a long time. Once Covid locked her down in Italy, she decided that she was going to run a marathon every day for a few weeks. Well.....being an ultrarunner (which gives you that extra dash of lunacy) a few weeks became a month which became two months which became the consistent routine of a marathon every morning before she found herself in the 70s, 80s and 90s. She completely shattered the previous "Consecutive Marathon" World Record and more amazingly, did so while in the middle of a move back to the United States! On top of all that, Alyssa is just a super knowledgeable runner and an awesome person to chat with! Recently she has cohosted a bunch of wonderful episodes for Rob Steger's "Training For Ultra" Podcasts and began a website called Training4Adventure which shares all sorts of inspiring adventure stories. Can't wait for you guys to listen to this episode! Also Rob is acting as our special cohost to intro Alyssa at the beginning of the show and chat filmmaking and his "Triple Crown of 200s" doc in the outro so I hope you all enjoy those segments as well! Understanding How You Think Can Improve How You Run and Race. Audio article by Rob Steger.
Rob Steger, from Training from Ultra fame joins us this weeks as our guest. Being the magnificent interviewer Rob is I am not sure if I ran the podcast or he did. Either way we have a great conversation about so many things. Rob has spent this year raising funds for cancer research while chasing & completing the triple crown of 200milers. In his spare time Rob using 100mile races for training. If you have not already, please check out Robs podcast, “Training for Ultra”. Thanks Rob for inspiring so many, especially myself.
Ultra marathon running isn't hard if you are committed. Just committing when you cannot run is what is hard. Rob Steger committed to running ultra marathons before he could even run one mile without stopping. In four years he has accomplished elite status as one of the few to run the triple crown of ultra: three 200 mile races is 3 months. Learn the simple processes listen here
Scott had the chance to sit down with Rob Steger of Training for Ultra and talk all things running from his big efforts over 200 miles to the launch of Season 8. It was a live interview and we think you'll really enjoy it! Thanks for listening!

My guest is Rob Steger, an ultra marathoner from Denver, Colorado, who just a few short years ago, could not even run one mile. period. He tried day after day and got a bad case of shin splints and also was about 50-60 pounds overweight. He kept at it and now is doing amazing things. Rob has since discovered ultra marathons, and is accomplishing feats few people can even dream of. He is in the midst of taking on the Triple Crown of 200's..a series of three, 200 mile races, in the span of 60 days. He had already finished the BigFoot 200, and two more are on the docket. The final race is the Moab 240. Rob will run the Moab 240 but will call the race the 401K. He lengthens the race to 401 kilometers(250 miles) and will raise money for pediatric cancer research. The cause is personal to Rob , as the daughter of a colleague, suffers from the disease. His social media on Twitter and Instagram is TrainingforUltra. He will have links for the fund raiser there and so will I, on my social media. I did this episode differently in that I sent Rob, 5 pertinent questions, and he answered each one, on his own, and he sent me the file and I put it together. His message for running is simple. Get out of your comfort zone. You are capable of so much more than you can imagine. Since I have done Ironman triathlons, and have run 100 mile and 50 mile races, I have an idea of what it may be like to try a huge undertaking like a 200 miler, but I will admit, that challenge seems so far out there.... but...you...never....know....... hahah Enjoy. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/john-telich/message
