Luke 5:17-26 The healing of the paralytic not only authenticates the greater healing that only Jesus can perform – the forgiveness of sins, but it also points to human involvement in that healing.
It's a big Friday in the From household — prom night for two kids at Wheaton Academy — and Brian opens the hour with something deeper than small talk: a reflection on what springtime is actually trying to tell us. From the birds waking up to the grass turning green again, Brian makes the case that God didn't design seasons by accident. The cycle of death and new life is a picture written into creation itself, and for anyone living under the weight of broken dreams or regret, it carries a message worth hearing. From there, Brian revisits a Trevin Wax piece on hypocrisy and repentance that's been rattling around in his head — and lands on a phrase worth sitting with: shoot high and repent often. Moral mediocrity dressed up as humility, Wax warns, is just a different kind of rot. Brian also reflects on NFL wide receiver Cooper Kupp's remarks at a men's event in Minnesota, where Kupp articulated something rare: a clear-eyed understanding of why he plays football, and it isn't for Super Bowls. Then Brian weighs in on the unraveling Mike Vrabel/Diana Russini scandal — not to pile on, but to ask the harder question it raises about the hidden corners in all of our lives. Rounding out the hour: a story on young Americans doing a month-long smartphone detox, a meditation on what the great Bible stories all have in common, and a look at Randy Alcorn's vision of worship, music, and ordinary life in heaven.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A Place Where Extraordinary Things Happen
I'mso amazed how God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. I heard thatquote yesterday and how true it is when we look at the situation going on inAmerica today. God can use ordinary people like a Charlie Kirk to doextraordinary things that can impact a generation of young people for the gloryof God. And my friend, God can use you. I remember one of the clips of CharlieKirk when someone asked him who could take his place, he responded, "Youare the answer. Todayas believers, we have access to the great wealth of God that's in Christ Jesus. If we only knew how to tap into it and live in that power of His resurrectionevery day as weak vessels, ordinary people depending on a mighty awesome, extraordinary God to do great and awesome things for His glory. That's whatthese verses in Ephesians chapter 1 are about. Ordinarypeople like you and me can face an evil generation. We can face it with hope.We can face it with faith. We can face it with grace to do the will of God inthe power of God. Paul begins this letter to the believers by telling them,"I'm praying for you. I'm praying for you to know God." My friend, when you have an intimate relationship, not just a religion, but relationshipwith Jesus Christ, it makes all the difference in the world. This relationshipand knowledge of God lead to knowing the hope in our inheritance in Christ. Wehave been chosen for His glory both for today and for eternity. Bymaking us His inheritance, God has shown His love. By promising us a wonderfulfuture, He has encouraged our hope. Paul now offers us something to challengeour faith: "the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward whobelieve" (Eph. 1:19). Themoment you trusted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, you wereplaced into the body of Christ, you are His body. You are the church. We arethe called-out ones, as we mentioned yesterday, that we might know the hope ofour calling. We have a calling as a church to stand up for Jesus to tell theworld the gospel of Jesus Christ. Wesee this great example in Charlie Kirk in both his life and death. And Aso in hiswife Erika, how even now in a time of tragedy she has proclaimed the gospel ofJesus Christ to anyone that would listen. The grace and strength to do this isavailable only through the “exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe.”This is available to every believer and can make a powerful difference ineveryone's life because it's not our reasoning and our logic that changespeople. It's the power of the gospel through the ministry of the Holy Spiritthat opens people's eyes to the truth. Today, let us go on to know the Lord. Let us pursue Him and let us pursue the wealththat He's given us in Christ and the power to live a life that's different. Thespirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. But it is when we realize how weak wereally are, that's when we depend on the power of God. Paul tells us that thisis his experience in 2 Corinthians12:9-10: “And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for Mystrength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will ratherboast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore Itake pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, indistresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” Weare at a major crossroads in America. We are at the tipping point. You are theanswer! Because God delights in using ordinary people to do extraordinary thingsthrough His strength and resurrection power! This is available to those whowill “believe”. “What is the exceeding greatness of His power towardus who believe, according to the working of His mighty power”. Will youbelieve and trust Him today? Godbless!
Some moments in life stop us in our tracks. Whether it's a personal challenge, a career crossroad, or a world event that shakes everything we know and it can make us ask: how do we keep moving forward? How do we not only survive the experience but find a way to create meaning, positive impact and legacy from it?In difficult times, it's often the response that can leave the biggest mark. These moments can call on us to find resilience in leadership, to adapt when change comes quickly, and to support those around us when they need it most. They also reveal the importance of purpose driven action, the kind of leadership that not only helps people through hardship, but also creates lasting impact and stronger communities. In this episode I chat with Peter Baines who is a former NSW Police forensic investigator who worked on some of the world's worst disasters, including the Bali bombings and Boxing Day tsunami. He went on to found Hands Across the Water, a charity supporting thousands of children in Thailand. Today, Peter is a sought after keynote speaker on leadership, resilience and social impact, and in 2025 was named one of the top five most influential Australians working in Thailand. This conversation goes far deeper than recounting events. Peter reflects on what it really means to lead through a crisis, to find resilience when everything feels overwhelming, and how to act with purpose even when the path ahead is uncertain. “ In my experience in crisis and disaster, true leaders are identified by their actions and their reactions. It's not the position that we hold, it's not the title that we have. It's what we do that matters” - Peter BainesWe cover:What crisis leadership really looks like in the moment and why leadership presence matters more than a title on your business cardThe lessons Peter took from working on the Bali bombings and the Boxing Day tsunami in Thailand What those global disasters taught him about change, speed and empathy in leadershipWhat running 1,400 km across Thailand taught him about resilience, the fear of failure, and why breaking big goals into small steps is the only way throughWhy sustainable fundraising only works when there's transparency and when supporters actually get something meaningful in returnHow Hands Across the Water and its charity bike rides in Thailand give everyday people the chance to grow, build real connections, and make a lasting impact for kidsKylie's Resources:Property Management Growth School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/TPM-BDMSchool Digital Marketing School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/digitalschool That Property Mum Courses: https://www.thatpropertymum.com.au/courses/ The PM Accelerate Membership: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/accelerate Book a Strategy Call with Kylie: https://calendly.com/kylie-tpm/coaching-call Kolmeo: https://kolmeo.com/ Sensor Global:
Today, on Notable Leaders' Radio, I speak with Andrea Wilson Woods, President & Founder, Blue Faery. She highlights how she transformed early hardship, loss, and fierce protectiveness into founding Blue Faery, a nonprofit dedicated to liver cancer advocacy, while sharing lessons on empathy, resilience, and finding joy amidst adversity. In today's episode, we discuss: Recognize the power of role models in shaping your identity. Reflect on who inspired you in childhood (real or fictional) and what qualities you admired. Consciously apply those traits—such as resilience, strength, or compassion—in your daily decisions and relationships, just as Andrea channeled Wonder Woman's fierceness and protectiveness throughout her life. Practice “detachment with empathy.” If you work or volunteer in caregiving or helping professions, learn to care deeply without carrying every burden as your own. Create emotional boundaries so you can keep showing up with compassion, just as Andrea does, without risking burnout. Use counseling, mindfulness, or peer support to reinforce this practice. Intentionally cultivate moments of joy and humor, even during tough times. Look for lightness: share a joke with loved ones, recall funny memories, or build small rituals that make you smile. “Joy is a resilient muscle, strengthening it will give you balance and energy to keep going.” Separate your self-worth from your achievements. Reflect on how your roles (career, family, volunteer, etc.) do not define your value. Develop interests and relationships untethered to performance, and give yourself grace in moments of transition—embrace who you are, not just what you do. Join or build supportive communities. If you or someone you know is affected by a particular challenge (like liver cancer), seek out or help create organizations and groups that provide understanding and resources—there's power in connection and shared experience. Growing up in a lower income household as the 5th of 6 kids, Kevin Krause did not have some of the privileges that others had and while he always knew there would be food on the table, he didn't get to choose what he would eat. Early on, he learned that if he worked hard, he could earn the freedom to make his own choices. While he stumbled into law enforcement as a career, his work ethic combined with his love of physical activity allowed him to excel and better handle the stress of his job. His appreciation for people and experiences caused him to invest in life outside of work by prioritizing scheduled and meaningful trips with friends and family evolving into what is now known as “Kevins rule.” Kevin takes an intentional approach to his job, family, friends, fitness and other “boxes he needs to check” on a daily basis. As such, while others focus on the pain and discomfort of completing a major endurance event like riding a bike for 100 days x 14 days across country, climbing the equivalent of Mt. Everest in a weekend or completing an Ironman, Kevin looks at these challenges as a vacation! Kevin Krause has been a law enforcement officer for 30 years, Ironman, winter mountaineer. He has completed two 100-mile races, finished Boston marathon in 2:28 and biked across America. He is a husband and father of 4. However, he believes that he is just, “an ordinary man doing extraordinary things!”

"When you look in the dictionary, you'll find that the word 'leader' is not capitalized. It doesn't refer to a position or a place in an organization; it's really more of an attitude and a sense of responsibility to move forward." In this recording of an Albers Executive Speaker Series talk in April 2024, leadership scholar and author Barry Posner unpacks the five practices of exemplary leadership, based on extensive research and data gathered over the years. His theme: Everyone is capable of leadership as it is understandable, observable, and learnable. 'You are a leader already." Hosted by Joseph M. Phillips, dean of Seattle University's Albers School of Business and Economics, The Leadership Playbook asks top executives from the business world's most recognizable brands and companies about the stories behind their success, their leadership secrets, and the biggest obstacles they've faced and overcome. Bible Study Don't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: 1 Corinthians 1.26-31; Matthew 4.18-22 God chooses and uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. The major qualification for accomplishing great things for the Lord is spending time with Him (Acts 4:13). And the requirement for this work is our availability. Leaving behind those things that will hinder our effectiveness in the Lord's service. If Christ can accomplish His purpose through the lives of the apostles and other people, could we imagine what He has in store for us? How could God use you (personally)? God has placed you in your school (especially young people), your job, family and neighborhood to do something special for the Lord. He is calling you at this very moment, all you have to do is say, yes Lord! Will you make yourself available to Him today? Jesus has a plan, a work to do, a purpose to achieve in history and beyond. He invites us to join Him. Are we available? What are the obstacles that are holding us back? Do you have a question about today's sermon? Email Anthony Kowbeidu (AKowbeidu@StAndrews.Church).

It is not necessary to be extraordinary or "extra-ordinary" to influence others. In fact, you can achieve this through ordinariness. Living a life of "faithfulness and love and holiness, with sound judgment," and striving to lead a peaceful and quiet life while embodying godliness and respectfulness are the keys to influencing others. It is important to be mindful of your outward conduct and how others perceive you, including those who may be outside of your immediate circle.Link: https://restoration.subspla.sh/8bzy5bw#thehappyrabbi #seattle #jewish #messianic #restorationseattle #JewishinSeattle
