    Ivy Insights

The Who Goes There Podcast is a fantastic horror podcast based in San Diego. Even as someone who doesn't typically watch horror, I find myself drawn to this show because of the entertaining and dynamic personalities of the hosts. The chemistry between them is evident, and their distinct voices bring unique perspectives to the table. It's great to listen to because after just a few episodes, you'll quickly pick up on their individual quirks and humor. Despite occasionally saying they hate your guts at the end, they are genuinely nice people who make you feel like part of their group.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is that it not only entertains but also educates listeners about the horror genre. The hosts review various horror movies, shows, and games, offering insightful commentary and analysis. They have a wealth of knowledge about different aspects of horror, including obscure films and trivia about animals' sexual habits (which apparently comes up quite frequently). Their discussions are fun, irreverent, and often hilarious, making for an enjoyable listening experience.

While there are many positive aspects to The Who Goes There Podcast, there are a few downsides worth mentioning. Firstly, it seems that some episodes from the earlier seasons are not available on iTunes. This may be disappointing for new listeners who want to catch up from the beginning. Additionally, the podcast can sometimes veer off-topic or become disjointed as the hosts navigate through their reviews. However, this doesn't detract too much from the overall enjoyment.

In conclusion, The Who Goes There Podcast is an excellent choice for horror enthusiasts or anyone looking to explore the genre further. The hosts' humor and banter create a lively atmosphere that keeps listeners engaged throughout each episode. Their honest yet fair reviews give valuable insights into horror films while never taking themselves too seriously. With its mix of entertainment and education, this podcast is definitely worth giving a try if you're interested in discovering new horror media or simply enjoy a good laugh.

Greetings from the 9th Circle of Hell!   Every now ad then the Lord of WGT Patreon (you should join btw) picks a movie for us to watch and review. And so it came to pass that Lord Hans bestowed us with a choice between the 1997 HBO movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Night Flier, or The Dread Central production, Benny Loves You. As you can see, we decided on the former. Worry not friends, as we of course make sure to address our reasoning behind this critical decision on the episode. Once this this little series of King adaptations is wrapped up we get into the 1980 Ken Russell directed Paddy Chayefsky written psych/scifi horror freakout of ALTERED STATES before weighing in on Ryan Coogler's 2025 genre-mashup runaway hit, SINNERS. “He was wearing a big cloak he was. Red as a fire engine inside, black as a woodchuck's asshole outside. And when it spread out behind him, it looked like a goddamn bat's wing it did. After talking to these crazy people all day every single day, their stories can get to you. Creep in like some fucking cancer and pretty soon, all this starts making sense.” It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 433!  Join our Patreon to support the show! King Pick selection for the 1997 Stephen King adaptation The Night Flier up next after this, followed by The Monkey, and yet another Stephen King adaptation after that with The Dead Zone (1983). Then, a very special selection after that before getting into Ryan Coogler's new genre mashup, SINNERS. "I'm sorry... but I don't think you know what a really bad day is! But you'll fucking learn. Morris: From what I can tell, the chain stops when an infected host dies in some other way outside of the being's control. My guess is that, just like other parasites, without a living host it has no way to survive. It's ceases to exist. Skye: So it only stops if--if I die before it kills me? Morris: Exactly. French Writer/Director Coralie Fargeat made her feature film debut with 2017's REVENGE, a visceral, vibrant, and often lyrical rape/revenge thriller. The film leaned hard into tropes usually reserved for more action oriented films featuring an initially victimized protagonist transforming into a lethal retributive anti-hero. Fargeat herself said she was directly influenced by films like Mad Max, Rambo, and Kill Bill. Revenge was a favorite of ours on the show in it's year of release, and one of the more notable genre feature film debuts in a decade full of them. She was also praised as one of the more exciting voices in contemporary feminist cinema, along with her contemporary Julia Ducournau (Raw, Titane), also hailing from France, as they both brought a woman's perspective and a contemporary lens to Cronenbergian body horror and psychosexual tension. Needless to say, we were optimistic and curious about what Fargeat would do next. "One single injection unlocks your DNA, starting a new cellular division, that will release another version of yourself. This is THE SUBSTANCE. Everything comes from you. Everything is you. This is simply a better version of yourself. You just have to share. One week for one and one week for the other. A perfect balance of seven days each. The one and only thing not to forget: YOU. ARE. ONE. You can't escape from yourself." It's the Who Goes There Podcast Episode 425! Join our Patreon if you enjoy and want to support the show! There are surprises every year in the world of cinema, you never quite know what's going to pan out and end up delivering the goods. A lot of things that sound good on paper end up being poor in execution, and vice versa. There's always the approach of relying on a filmmakers track record and having a reasonable amount of confidence in their next project, but even then there are disappointments and (usually) inevitable decline. There's the "brand loyalty" idea, where you stick with a franchise even though it starts SUCKING ASS, and in recent years no shortage of legacy sequels. Every year also brings it's share of unintentionally hilarious cinematic disasters. This year alone has brought us Megacockulus, Madame Web, Joker: Folie a Deux, Borderlands, Argylle, Tarot, Rebel Moon- Part Two, Imaginary, Night Swim, and The Exorcism, among others (add Kraven The Hunter to that list). Then, there's these films you barely hear shit about (or nothing about) until their release is imminent which pull a complete sneak attack and surprise the fuck out of you.  Join Patreon if you enjoy the show! As the first film in the long running Alien series to be produced by 20th Century Studios following it's acquisition by Disney, Alien: Romulus successfully resuscitated the franchise, grossing over $350 million worldwide. But at what cost? Will the film's gorgeous production design, modern horror tropes, and nostalgic nods to the greatest hits of the franchise be enough? Or is what some identify as an over-reliance on fan service, imitation, incoherent plotting, and contrivances, ultimately a deal breaker? What did we think? You're about to find out. "Z-01 contains the genome responsible for the Xeno's ability to accelerate and slow down its metabolism at will. Its symbiotic capableness easily rewrites the host's DNA through its blood. Well, the special day has come and gone and now it's finally time for us to share our thoughts about this indie horror which incorporates found footage and mockumentary elements. Shoutout to mastermind Cal Gee for the original art as always. This time, the dude decided to take the controversial AI artwork from the film and draw it with his HUMAN HANDS. "Welcome back. Greetings! We've got a couple more visits to the late 90's before getting into some current 2024 horror releases.  DISTURBING BEHAVIOR is the raw essence of 1998 distilled into pure, shameless, trash. Katie Holmes, horny/homicidal teens, an incoherent mind control premise, stock thematic elements about the dangers of conformity, and James Marsden looking like a full grown man in his early 30's portraying a high school student. Join us as we discuss this important milestone in cinematic history.  "It's a class system here at CB High, Stevie Boy. Check it out...Those three guys are Cradle Bay's answer to Manson, McVeigh and OJ. Music of choice: the hum of perfection, the buzz of ambition. Drug of choice: life, the pursuit of clean living at the expense of all who sniffle at the hem of their gowns. The you've got kids like me and UV here, those who like their metal heavy, their Marlboro's light. Music of choice...Harvester of Sorrow, Language of the Mad. Drug of choice: what have you got? This is Jorge's first viewing in a couple decades and Jacob's first ever. Enjoy and long live the new flesh! "You're stuck now, aren't you? Meanwhile, over in Japan in the very same year, that country would begin it's cultural processing of the nuclear atrocities it suffered with a little film called Gojira (Godzilla).  “Don't you think I know that? Verhoeven's hyper-violence and grisly combat scenes were perhaps most appreciated by gorehounds and teenagers. EPISODE 385: DEADSTREAM You're back! That warms our hearts. There's a lot of crazy shit going on, as usual. Rich people getting their boats flipped by Killer Whales, rich people getting yeeted into soup after imploding in a janky-ass submarine equipped with a cheap gaming controller as a navigation device while trying to visit the Titanic, a mercenary insurrection in Russia. Yes, it's a wild time to be alive. We suppose this has always been the case though.  This episode we dive into DEADSTREAM, a found footage horror/comedy revolving around a recently disgraced Youtuber who's willing to do anything to get his followers back. For those who haven't seen it the movie is currently available to stream on Shudder.  “Your reality is already half video hallucination. If you're not careful, it will become total hallucination.” It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 385! As always, if you enjoy the show, please consider joining our Patreon subscribers. Salutations idiots! Hopefully you've had the opportunity to listen to the previous episode featuring the introduction of our new cohost, Jacob. He's dope. We appreciate him, and we appreciate all the good will and words of encouragement we've received from many of you.  “Don't act so weak... this is just the beginning. Remember... your nightmare's only getting worse!” It's the Who Goes There Podcast episode 384! Next up is 2022's bonkers South Korean sci-fi action horror hybrid, PROJECT WOLF HUNTING. Among other fine moments, this film bears the distinction of being the only film we're aware of in which a man is presumably killed by another man's Dee, mid-cockgobble. This is important stuff. The film is currently available to rent on VOD or stream on Screambox.  As always, if you enjoy the show, please consider joining our Patreon subscribers. Ah! It's been a long time, we shouldn't have left you, without a dope beat to step to. More accurately, it's been like 3 months at most, and we have no beats. But we're back! And when I say “we” I mean exactly two thirds of what you're used to. Yes, friends, idiots, and people reading this out of morbid curiosity, Matt has shuffled off this silly-ass show and embraced the next chapter of his life. We will miss him and hope he'll be making periodic special guest appearances when he feels like it. We have a new cohost on the show joining us. We need the energy of the triforce to sustain the Dee. It's a new era of sorts, again, for WGT, and the chemistry is guaranteed to be a bit different. We're just going to continue doing what we do and letting it take shape. This is a massive slab of content here, as we present to you not one but two episodes. Episode #382 is Matty Ding Dong's final outing with us which we recorded a few months back. We review and discuss 1989's Japanese body horror extravaganza, TETSUO: THE IRON MAN. Episode #383 is our first without Matt, wherein we welcome our new third throbbing member and discuss 2023's EVIL DEAD RISE.
