New Hampshire has been doing New Hampshire things, like kicking my butt, giving me spectacular daily views, and providing Nuke and me with some of the best hiking of this trip so far. The Kinsman's and Franconia Ridge are now in the rear view mirror, with the Presidential Range still to come. Along the way, my exhaustion at the end of the day has limited my interviews, though I do have a friend, Mike Innes, on the show this week to share a bit of a teaser for a show about nutrition that I will air later in the year. I'm using Polarsteps to record my AT thru-hike this year. If you'd like to follow my progress between episodes, as well as photos of my journey, please go to https://www.polarsteps.com/mightyblue and click on the follow button. I used my hike in 2024 on the South West Coast Path in the UK to help raise money for my absolute favorite charity, Parenting Matters, on whose board I've been privileged to serve for over a decade. You can learn more about the hike and the organization–and donate–by visiting Hike with Steve - Empowering Parents, One Step at a Time | Parenting Matters %. I hope you want to support this critical mission. Don't forget. Our entire series of videos from our Woods Hole Weekend in 2022 is now FREE and available at my YouTube page at Woods Hole Weekend - Trailer There, you'll find all sorts of tips and tricks that our guests took away from the weekend that helped them with their own hikes this year. Check it out. I often ask listeners for ideas on who to interview, and I'm sure several of you say, "I could do that. I've got an awesome story to tell." You're the person we need to hear from. We're not only pushing through New Hampshire, but we've reached the spot where the rubber meets the road; namely, Mt Moosilauke, the first of the 4000-footers that we climb. It was an exhilarating climb, yet one well within my capabilities. Along the way, I chatted with Nuke, my hiking partner who I first interviewed just after Caledonia State Park, in Pennsylvania. I wanted him to give his impressions of Moosilauke and how his flip flop had gone so far. I'm using Polarsteps to record my AT thru-hike this year. Command+Comma jumps you straight into any well-coded Mac app’s settings, no menu-hunting required, and Option+Return reveals the formula in any Numbers cell (Command+Return puts the result back). If your cross-platform Logitech keyboard has its Command and Option keys backwards, hold Fn+Shift+O for three seconds to flip the firmware into Mac mode — Fn+Shift+P sends it back to PC. While you’re at it, download the PDF manual for every new piece of gear today and stash it in Books so it syncs everywhere, because that manual won’t be on the manufacturer’s site three years from now. You’ll also hear why Siri AI in the iOS 27 betas is genuinely iterative: you can follow up, edit, and append without starting over. Plus the best quick tip anyone’s sent in: go listen to the old episodes. Then you’re into your questions. Skipping Tahoe on your way to Golden Gate? You pay the re-indexing tax either way, so make the one jump instead of two. You’ll get the cable-bag answer (mesh zipper pouches you can see through, plus a slim organizer case that slides in next to your laptop), the 4K travel monitor that earns its space, and how one listener had Claude Cowork build an exhaustive Mac migration checklist. You’ll hear why consolidating into a single password manager makes your next nuke-and-pave dramatically less painful, and whether an app that vets every link before you click it could actually exist, because knowing where a link really goes is how you Don’t Get Caught. Plus: build and sideload your own single-use iOS apps for free with your Xcode personal team (AltStore and Sideloadly make it stick), why Messages keeps splitting your family group thread and what actually works, and a long-overdue robot mower update covering stereo vision versus LiDAR, all-wheel drive, and what your yard size really costs you. 00:00:00 Mac Geek Gab 1155 for Monday, August 17th, 2026 August 17th: Black Cat Appreciation Day MGG Monthly Giveaway – Win a license to Yoink, Screenfloat, Transloader, or DeskMat from Eternal Storms The MGG Merch Store is Live! With record amounts of rainfall this week in Massachusetts, Nuke and I decided to wait it out during a zero day in Lee. Once we got back on trail the following day, we had to cope with swollen stream crossings that soaked us, as well as paths that became streams. What actually separates a poker player from a gambler? Professional poker player, coach, and writer Paul Hoppe steps in as Matthew Fox's full co-host and the two spend this episode arguing over wagers, variance, and self-control at the table before turning it into a lens for superhero risk-taking.They dig into Nick Fury's bet on New York, Kingpin's long-shot gamble in the Spider-Verse, and a decades-long discussion between Matthew and Paul about variance that stretches all the way to how people misread election polling. So: is poker just gambling with better math, or something else entirely?Full show notes and resourcesGrab Paul's book: Friday Night Is My Monday Morning, Volume One. A massive, high-energy episode packing continuous bombshells across policy, foreign affairs, and culture!
This synopsis of the review for Christopher Nolan's film, The Odyssey, explores the movie through the lens of “meta-script” analysis rather than traditional film criticism.Review Date: July 27, 2026IntroThe speaker provides a follow-up analysis of Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, explicitly stating that the review ignores cinematography and acting to focus on predictive programming subtext. The goal is to identify how the film serves as a “companion piece” to Nolan's previous work, Oppenheimer, specifically regarding the symbolic framing of nuclear weapons and “prefabricated” history.Bullet Points: Key Topics* The Trojan Horse as an Atomic Metaphor: The film presents the Trojan Horse not just as a gift, but as an analogy for the atomic bomb, with imagery—such as the horse being elevated—paralleling the lifting of the nuclear sphere in Oppenheimer.* Odysseus and Oppenheimer Parallel: Both protagonists are portrayed as brilliant but tortured “meta-scriptors” whose ingenious inventions reshape civilization and leave them haunted by the guilt of their creation.* Consistent Trailer Messaging: The theater experience is described as a “data dump” where seven out of nine trailers (including Godzilla Minus Zero and Whale Fall) utilized nuke-related analogies, Leviathans, or direct references to nuclear engineering.* The Role of Poseidon: The speaker correctly predicted the nuke subtext based solely on the inclusion of Poseidon, whom they interpret as a symbol for a nuclear submarine.* Decompartmentalization of Reality: The review argues that mainstream entertainment is used to “habituate” and “prime” the public for incoming manufactured historical events, creating a secondary timeline of scripted reality.ThemeThe central theme is the transgression of moral and cosmic boundaries. The speaker argues that just as Oppenheimer's bomb dissolved the trust between nations, Odysseus's violation of Zeus's law at Troy—via the “trick” of the horse—represented a calculated annihilation that changed the moral rules of the world forever.7 Key Quotes* “I'm merely looking at it for any sort of predictive programming subtext consistent with that particular director...”* “There does seem to be this deliberate analogy, I was thinking, between Odysseus and Oppenheimer, the Trojan horse and the nuke.”* “It is as though the Trojan horse anticipates the atomic bomb.”* “Odysseus becomes a kind of Oppenheimer. Standing before the consequences of his creation, his guilt is twofold.”* “We're looking at authors or directors and writers whose work is being used to help frame our prefabricated manufactured history.”* “The trailers have all referenced the nuke directly or indirectly, or the associated symbol, which happens to be the Godzilla, Leviathan, or Kraken.”* “This future script, this meta script is what I call it, is a description of future events that will shape the course of our collective history.”SummaryThe review concludes that The Odyssey is a propaganda tool designed to provide emotional and mythological “color” to an incoming, engineered nuclear event. By linking ancient mythology to modern science, the film reinforces a singular objective: to maintain a worldview monopoly where the public is conditioned to accept a scripted future as an inevitable reality. Today's Headlines: Trump announced a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia, then posted a P.S. the next day conditioning the whole thing on Saudi Arabia normalizing relations with Israel — a condition so significant it threw the entire deal into jeopardy before Congress even had a chance to reject it — while simultaneously telling Axios he's "close" to ordering a massive Iran strike "bigger than ever before" and that Israel would "join in two minutes" if asked, which is a casual thing to say about starting a regional war. The House passed a War Powers resolution to stop Trump's Iran strikes with four Republicans joining Democrats, oil hit $100 a barrel, the Houthis started attacking tankers in the Red Sea, and the Senate rejected the House resolution roughly 24 hours later, so that was a fun emotional rollercoaster. The Trump administration also quietly imposed new tariffs of up to 12.5% on 60 countries at midnight, using an expiring tariff program as legal cover because their authority to do so is, in their own words, light. In other news, The DOJ withdrew its subpoenas for New York Times journalists' phone records — including their spouses and mothers — after a judge spent an hour in court making clear how unacceptable it was, though they say the underlying leak investigation continues, so the retreat is partial at best. And finally, the death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells in Mississippi — who went missing on July 4th under suspicious circumstances and was found dead two days later — is getting significant attention, with questions about why one of his friends had his phone and car keys without mentioning it, a local judge parent writing a lengthy essay about her son's innocence, law enforcement immediately ruling out foul play, and the state medical examiner keeping parts of Nolan's body that would have been critical in determining cause of death, while the independent autopsy came back inconclusive. He was the only Black boy on a boat with four white kids in Mississippi, and Nancy Grace has entered the chat, so this story isn't going anywhere. Find us at www.crisisinvesting.com Doug and Matt discuss headlines and subscriber questions, starting with a survey claiming 30% of Americans admit to shoplifting and what that says about social trust, morality, and societal decline. They talk about New York's worsening conditions, Trump's announced Saudi nuclear deal and subsequent reversal, and a House-passed NDAA provision (Section 219) calling for deeper US-Israel military/intelligence integration, which they argue signals late-stage empire and foreign influence via AIPAC. They critique Trump's "golden age" claims, note rising yields and escalating Middle East and Ukraine-Russia risks, and comment on Trump family wealth. Q&A topics include Doug's favorite opera (Wagner, Gershwin), sci-fi recommendations (golden-age authors; The Diamond Age), whether digital assets/stablecoins can prolong the debt cycle, a film about vigilantism and mass migration, coal markets and coal's importance, Israel's actions and Gaza/Lebanon, and the possibility of deflation alongside inflation using entropy concepts. 00:00 Shoplifting Shock Stat 01:17 Thieves and Morality 03:58 Luxury Beliefs Debate 04:57 New York Backslide 06:53 Saudi Nuclear Deal 10:05 Israel Military Merger 14:17 America as an Idea 14:59 Trump Golden Age Clip 17:05 War Fears and Disillusion 19:27 Trump Family Windfall 20:30 Subscriber Opera Question 21:16 Wagner and Gershwin 22:33 Sci Fi Reading Picks 24:59 Debt Bubble and Stablecoins 30:19 Vigilante Citizen Talk 33:15 Coal Markets Explained 36:33 Israel Influence and Gaza 40:58 Econophysics and Deflation 45:19 Weekend Sign Off
Today's Headlines: Trump attended the dignified transfer of four service members killed in Iran, then immediately posted that the US would bomb a bridge or power plant in Tehran every time Iran fires anything at a Strait of Hormuz ship — which legal experts would describe as a war crime — before heading to Georgia for a rally where he called the Iran war a "skirmish," invented a weak nickname for Jon Ossoff, and called affordability a Democratic scam, while a guy behind him spent the whole time visibly mocking him. The US also signed a nuclear deal with Saudi Arabia giving it a path to enriching uranium — with weaker inspection requirements than Obama's Iran deal — which is a fascinating position for an administration that says Iran can never enrich uranium, while also considering military strikes in Mali against an al-Qaeda affiliate, while letting Saudi Arabia, which harbored the al-Qaeda operatives who planned 9/11, enrich nuclear material, make it make sense. Meanwhile, House Republicans passed a $95 billion budget bill covering the Iran war, farmer tariff bailouts, and voting law changes, plus a stock trading ban that exempts the president from the ban on stock trading — which is the entire point of a stock trading ban — with a random voter ID requirement inserted for good measure. Republicans also sent a criminal referral for Jack Smith to the DOJ for allegedly lying about reading their text messages during his Trump investigations, which is a bold move from the party currently under investigation for everything. Three election deniers endorsed by Trump won Arizona primary races for offices that will directly influence certifying the 2028 election, with OG election denier Andy Biggs winning the Republican governor's primary to face Katie Hobbs in November. And OpenAI announced that its own AI system autonomously hacked into another AI company called Hugging Face in what they called an "unprecedented cyber incident." Mamdani vs Netanyahu and Why The Answer to the Extreme Right Isn't the Extreme Left. Media Blitz Pod Four young Americans are dead. The Secretary of Defense is asking Congress for more money after months of all gas, no brakes. The Saudis are quietly telling the world they don't trust Trump to neutralize Iran — so they're going to build their own bomb. And now the Washington Post reports the administration is weighing strikes on Mali, the eighth country hit since Trump returned to office. This is what a forever war looks like when nobody in Congress is willing to stop it. Paul Rieckhoff cuts through the noise from Union Square with a no-BS media blitz — MSNBC with Nicole Wallace, CNN with Erin Burnett — and lays out the human cost the White House doesn't want you to see. He calls out Mayor Mamdani's Netanyahu stunt as the extreme-left mirror of MAGA, honors Sergeant Angel Rampersat of Queens, and asks the question no anchor will: if this war is so noble, why isn't the president's own 20-year-old son in uniform? In this episode, we kick things off by examining a major AI breakthrough that could fundamentally transform freight execution across North America. J.B. Hunt Transport Services has partnered with a startup to publicly launch an AI-led freight execution platform following a year-long co-design process. The platform leverages AI agents to automate shipment coordination, reading live data, detecting exceptions, and managing customer communications while working within carriers' existing systems. Overroute's technology is now deployed across J.B. Hunt's business units, with AI agents working behind the scenes on millions of loads. Meanwhile, Forward Air just pulled off a critical rescue of a massive customer relationship that nearly sank the entire company. The logistics provider secured a deal to keep at least half of a $250 million account that had threatened to pull all of its business back in May. Forward's shares had plummeted over forty percent following the warning that it might lose a customer responsible for ten percent of its annual revenue, and the potential loss also foiled its plan to sell the company. Shares of Forward Air surged nineteen percent in early trading following Tuesday's announcement. Finally, we explore how the nation's busiest container port is about to become the testing ground for nuclear-powered maritime operations. The U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration will sign the first-ever agreement with the Port of Long Beach to test small modular reactors for commercial vessels and other potential port uses. Separately, Bluecore Energy, a startup headquartered at the Port of Long Beach, announced it has raised ten million dollars to develop floating, barge-mounted reactors to power ports and eventually cargo ships. Let's talk about how Trump will be the reason Iran gets a nuke....
A brand new Godzilla Minus Zero teaser just dropped, and it raises more questions than it answers. In this episode of Geek Freaks Headlines, Frank breaks down everything hidden in the latest footage for Takashi Yamazaki's sequel to the Oscar-winning Godzilla Minus One. From Noriko's last name change confirming she and Koichi got married between films, to the ominous synopsis line "There is no third time, everything ends here" suggesting this could be a two-movie story instead of a trilogy, there's a lot packed into this short teaser. Frank also digs into the teaser's biggest mystery, the line "another moral boundary mankind shouldn't cross," and lays out his Plan A versus Plan B theory: Japan's Disaster Response Bureau using its hard-won Godzilla expertise to stop the kaiju in New York, while the United States is tempted to drop another nuke, not realizing it could feed Godzilla and destroy their own city in the process. Plus, why Koichi throwing punches at Noda puts a wrench in the whole theory, the mysterious bomb test in a grassy field, and hopes for more news at San Diego Comic-Con. Godzilla Minus Zero hits theaters November 3 in Japan and November 6 everywhere else.Timestamps0:00 New Godzilla Minus Zero teaser reaction and Noriko's name change0:29 The synopsis breakdown and the case for a two-movie story0:44 Connecting the CinemaCon teaser: Godzilla in New York and Noda's Disaster Response Bureau1:02 The moral boundary line and the US nuke temptation theory1:18 Plan A vs Plan B: Japan's expertise or America's bomb1:38 The wrench in the theory: Koichi fighting Noda and the mystery bomb test1:56 Release dates and San Diego Comic-Con hopesKey TakeawaysNoriko is now credited as Noriko Shikishima, confirming she and Koichi got married between filmsThe official synopsis ends with "There is no third time, everything ends here," hinting this may be a two-and-done story rather than a trilogyThe teaser line "another moral boundary mankind shouldn't cross" points to a nuclear weapons storylineGodzilla is headed to New York, as revealed in the first CinemaCon teaser with the Statue of Liberty shotNoda now leads a Disaster Response Bureau tasked with pushing back on GodzillaFrank's theory: Plan A is Japan stopping Godzilla with their expertise, Plan B is the US nuking him, which would only feed him and destroy New YorkKoichi physically fighting Noda in the teaser complicates the theory, since Noda's plan should be the safer oneA bomb drops in a grassy area in the teaser, possibly just a weapons testGodzilla Minus Zero releases November 3 in Japan and November 6 worldwideMemorable Quotes"War reduced Japan to zero, and Godzilla plunged it into minus.""There is no third time. Mighty Blue On The Appalachian Trail: The Ultimate Mid-Life Crisis
I've been upping the mileage this week and am back to the levels I was achieving prior to my shin splints. I know, I need to be careful, but it is clear that I don't lose my "legs" during my enforced stoppage. This week, I ran into several new faces as well as some old faces. I interviewed Dennis the shuttle driver, Paddle and Lucky Charms after their successful Four State Challenge, and Nuke, who just started his flip flop a week ago from Harper's Ferry. If you'd like to be interviewed on the podcast, just register as a guest on the link below, and I'll be in touch. Come on the show! In this Monday Headline Brief of The Wright Report, Bryan opens with a major Iran-linked terror arrest in New York City, where an Iraqi national accused of working for the IRGC allegedly helped plan attacks against Jewish, Israeli, and American targets across the U.S., Canada, Europe, and beyond. He then breaks down the broader war picture, including new drone attacks on the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, President Trump's warning that Iran is running out of time for a peace deal, and a notable shift in the White House's position on Iran's enriched nuclear material. Bryan argues that Tehran is showing little interest in peace, while rising oil prices, market stress, and warnings about shortages of motor oil and lubricants show how the war is increasingly hitting Americans at home. Plus, Bryan covers China's tentative promises to buy more U.S. agricultural products, President Trump's successful move to oust Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy, and AOC's growing push to rally Democrats around socialism, redistricting fights, and attacks on billionaires. He also highlights Texas Children's Hospital ending transgender procedures for minors, and closes with a look at America's 250th birthday, the Rededicate 250 event, and the renewed debate over faith, religion, and the future of the nation.
