#109: How to Get Ahead of the Changes at Pinterest to Win on the Platform

The Blogger Genius Podcast with Jillian Leslie

Have you heard? Pinterest is making changes. In today's podcast episode, Alisa Meredith, my dear friend and Pinterest expert, and I are talking about how to get ahead of the changes at Pinterest to win on the platform. As bloggers, most of us depend on several platforms to drive traffic to our blogs. One of the major players in the game is Pinterest. Pinterest is responsible for driving millions of page views to our site, Catch My Party, every single month.  But with all platforms, sometimes things change. And Pinterest has recently made some changes that have a lot of people talking. It is absolutely necessary as online business owners to be aware of these changes and understand what they mean for us and how to best move forward.  Before we jump into all things Pinterest, I'm so excited to announce that beginning March 2, 2020, my husband and partner, and tech genius, David, and I are starting our first Entrepreneur Coaching Group. I've been mentioning this for a few weeks and I am so excited that it is almost time to start! This is a 6-week program that will help you understand all the things you need to know as you build your blog into a profitable business.  We'll be talking about all the tech stuff for sure, but we'll also be covering how to create content, how to find your audience, what products to sell, how to monetize, and how to understand SEO.  We'll also talk about social media platforms, email marketing, and all the other pieces of building an online business with a blog.  There will be live Q&A's, teaching sessions, a private Facebook group, and we will be there with you every step of the way.  If you're ready to get your business off the ground, head over to MiloTree and reserve your spot today!  Pinterest Wants Fresh Content If you've been blogging for a while, you know that, in the past, you created a pin and then your job was to continue to pin that pin repeatedly, over time.  One of the main changes Pinterest is making is in regard to that practice.  Pinterest has said that they want new content. They no longer want us repinning the same pins over and over; they want pins that are fresh, and they are calling this "fresh content." Let's define fresh content for Pinterest Fresh content is simply an image that has never been pinned to Pinterest before.  Pinterest has stated that their users engage more with fresh pins, and that doesn't mean you can use the same image but change the words or the overlay. It doesn't mean you can slide the image a few pixels right or left.  Think about what makes an image fresh from the user's perspective.  The point here is to switch your time and energy from curating peer content and repeating your pins to creating and pinning fresh content.  Pinning to Multiple Boards Obviously, the question arises then: Can you continue to pin your images to more than one of your boards? You absolutely can! You can still pin your image to several relevant boards, with the important word there being “relevant.” If you continue to share the pin to boards that Pinterest doesn't consider relevant, you might receive a warning that you should consider creating fresh content before pinning to additional boards.  If you have a pin that is “sorta relevant” to a few more of your boards, change the text or the image to make it “very relevant” before pinning it to those boards.  The very first board you pin the new content to gets the most attention from Pinterest.  So, be very intentional about the first board you pin your new content to because that sends signals to Pinterest about the content and who they should show it to. Relevancy and Recency on Pinterest As time goes on, relevancy and recency are going to become more important to the Pinterest algorithm.  I asked Alisa to take a moment to define the terms, relevancy and recency, and how they apply to the new algorithm. Let's say I'm searching for products for my curly hair. I will be shown images of curly hair, pins with text about curly hair, etc. In other words, pins that are relevant to my search. The takeaway here is that your content must contain what your pin says it is relevant to. That relevancy must also be consistent over your entire online content, from your boards to your pins to your website.  You also need to remain relevant to the platform itself.  People come to Pinterest to be inspired. Your pins and content should be both inspirational and aspirational because that is what the Pinterest user is looking for.  Recency goes back to the fresh content piece. The more you create fresh content, the more that content will start to bubble up in the search results. Your relevant content that's older, can still come up in results, but if Pinterest has two pins that are both relevant to a topic, the more recent content will come up first.  You still want to pin seasonal content early because it's relevant to the season and because people are searching for that seasonal content ahead of time. So yes, repinning this type of content could be beneficial. New Pins for Old Content When we talk about fresh content, we are speaking specifically about fresh pins. So, what does that mean for your older blog posts?  If you make new pins for older blog posts, does Pinterest consider those pins fresh content? Yes! The algorithm is not based on new URLs, but rather on new pins. You don't have to put out more content in order to have fresh content for Pinterest.  You can make new pins for older content to have the recency factor work in your favor.  Creating Gorgeous Pins With more focus on new images moving forward, we need to know how to make the most clickable pins ever.  Tailwind has come to the rescue with their Perfect Pinterest Pins Toolkit. Once you download this free toolkit, you'll see a pin checklist, a guide to writing great descriptions, and most exciting of all, free templates for creating gorgeous pins.  A new group of templates is released every month and is sorted by industry. Each template is 100% editable to make them your own.  You want your pins to be eye candy for the Pinterest user and this toolkit gets you there without you needing to spend hours on new pins.  All of these templates are available to add to your Canva account and are built based on Pinterest's best practices.  Is Pinterest Jail Real? If you hang out anywhere that bloggers hang out, you've likely heard that some bloggers are finding themselves in Pinterest jail. In other words, they're having their accounts suspended.  I asked Alisa if Pinterest jail was a real thing, (it is!) and how we can stay out of it.  First of all, even if Pinterest recommended you pin no more than 25 pins per day, you wouldn't get suspended for spam if you pin 27 pins per day. It doesn't work that way. Pinterest has clearly stated that it isn't based on numbers.  But let's say you're pinning 40 pins per day, and some of those pins are the same pin, and it happens that nobody is engaging with that pin. Well, you're going to get tagged for spam and it's pretty easy to see why. At Catch My Party, we have tons of content to pin because people are constantly uploading their party photos to our site.  We had been pinning 100 pins per day, but all of those are new pins. What we are testing now is pinning 75 pins per day and watching our analytics to see what effect that has on our account.  Your Pinterest Best Friend The thing I love about the Pinterest scheduler, Tailwind, and one of the main reasons we use them, is that they are like a best friend, walking closely beside you and letting you know if you start to veer into dangerous territory. Your Tailwind dashboard will always warn you if they notice you putting yourself at risk.  Tailwind is there to put safeguards around your account; they aren't reporting things to Pinterest, but rather are paying attention to best practices and passing those on to their users.  *Listen in as Alisa shares some in-depth information on how to best use SmartLoop and the future of video on Pinterest.  I so appreciate Alisa sharing her thoughts, and how Tailwind is approaching the changes that Pinterest is making. You don't have to be afraid of these changes. If the platform becomes more user-friendly, more people will use the platform, which ultimately leads to more eyes on your content.  Action Tips If I had to give you some action tips from this episode, they would be: Keep creating fresh blog content Stay consistent with sharing your content, both new and seasonal Create new pins! Use the platform well and you will see a return on your investment! We've been hearing from a lot of Tpters lately reporting that their traffic and views are dropping in Pinterest. So, today we're talking about what you can do to combat that and increase your Pinterest activity. And, we're continuing the conversation in our Mastermind group. Head over there to share what works for you and hear what others are saying: www.growwithusmastermind.com. On this episode of the Grow With Us Podcast, we have Sara from the Stellar Teacher Company joining our conversation on Pinterest. When we saw the concerns around the current struggle with Pinterest, we put out a call in our group for new Pinterest strategies and someone recommended Sara. Her account has 4.4 million monthly viewers. Sara creates and sells resources for upper elementary and launched her website earlier this year. We had a long list of questions and discussed the following Pinterest strategies: The use of video pins Sara shared with us that she noticed a big increase in her Pinterest views when she started using video pins. She only uses them to share and link to her products and isn't using them to share blog posts or opt-in offers for her email lists. A recent video pin had 149k views with 2.4k saves on these pins. It's her highest percentage of engagement on Pinterest which really surprised her because they are pretty simple and straightforward. However, the videos are able to provide a more comprehensive view of what's included in the resource which is what teachers are looking for. It allows them to get a good feel for the entire product. How to create video pins for Pinterest Sara reassured all of us that it really isn't that difficult to create video pins. She likes to batch her work so she can create multiple pins at once. She uses her iPhone for all of the videos and photos that she takes for her marketing and really likes the time-lapse feature to help speed things up. This allows her to flip through an entire 50-page resource in a 7-second video. Apps for video editing When it comes to editing her videos, Sara likes to use PicPlayPost. She uses the paid version because it's not that expensive but there is a free version as well. This app allows you to edit things like brightness and timing, which is helpful because your video needs to be at least six seconds long. The app also allows you to add text and combine multiple videos into one. Sara shared that it's easy to use and within an hour of playing around you can be pretty set on how to use it. Importance of consistency While video pins have contributed to Sara's recent growth you can't overlook the importance of consistency. She experienced what she calls the "Pinterest Crisis" last fall just like many others. In order to combat the dip she experienced, she began to post consistently. While Tailwind was helpful, Sara didn't enjoy using it so she eventually hired a VA to handle it for her and it's made a huge difference. It helps here to keep the queue full of new pins or high performing ones that she wants to keep circulating. This is the first year that she's been consistently pinning the same number of pins every day. She keeps it to 25-30 pins a day and personally doesn't use SmartLoop because her VA is helping do the work for her. The consistency has had a good impact on her growth since last fall. When it comes to creating new resources, she tries to upload 20-30 new pins a month for it. And, while she does do repins of both video and regular pins, she makes a point to get the new pins out there too. Batching work to save time As mentioned before, Sara prefers to batch her work. For example, a few weekends before we recorded our episode with her, she created all of her video pins for the month. This is how it worked: Two hours spent on printing, cutting, and preparing Two hours spent on making

#059: What You Need to Know NOW to Get More Traffic From Pinterest with Kate Ahl

In this post, we're delving into what you need to know NOW to get more traffic from Pinterest. What's Working Now with All of Pinterest's New Updates Pinterest comes out with updates and changes like any social media platform, such as Facebook or Instagram. The difference is that success on remains virtually the same even with changes because the foundation is never updated. If you are following good Pinterest strategies, such as… Using Pinterest as a search engine Focusing on your SEO Correcting problems ...you should remain untouched by these changes. Pinterest always values good content. Be sure you are always adding valuable content to your boards and you will be good to go. If you use Pinterest for your business, then you have likely heard of our guest this week, Kate Ahl. Kate Ahl is the founder and owner of Simple Pin Media, a Pinterest management company. If you want to follow Kate and get to know more about her, check out her podcast and her Facebook group. This is her third time coming on our show and she keeps all of us up-to-date on all things Pinterest. Plus, she is one of the kindest people I know and I am delighted to have her on again. The Purpose of Pinterest People use Pinterest to plan for the future. If someone wants to ideas, they go to Pinterest first. Pinterest informs our decisions and gives us inspiration, and then we can take action when we are ready. Pinterest introduces us to companies and websites that offer what we're looking for. Using Tailwind's SmartLoop Have you heard of SmartLoop? It's the newest feature from Tailwind, the Pinterest scheduler. Tailwind is a Pinterest approved pin scheduler and it's really important to us because we use it to schedule all of our pins. Smart Loop is a feature used to set your pins to go out to particular boards on a particular schedule. Instead of manually scheduling which pins go out, to which boards and on what days, you just put the pins you would like to be dropped continually into your boards, and Smart Loop will do it on repeat. This is helpful, especially if you have large amounts of content because everything will be pinned, without you worrying about forgetting something. You can then focus on putting your new content out using the more traditional side of Tailwind. Pinterest Lifted the Maximum Pins Allowed Since Pinterest began, they had a maximum number of 200,000 pins per account. 200,000 pins may seem like a lot, but for bloggers who have been on the platform for years and who release new content on a regular basis, it was all too easy to hit this threshold. Pinterest recently lifted the 200,000 pin threshold. Before they made this change, bloggers and entrepreneurs had to plan out how many pins to put out over a certain length of time in order to know when they hit the max allowed. How to Evaluate Your Pins Don't just do a pin dump for your Smart Loop cycle; be sure you evaluate the pins that you're adding. Organize and revisit to make sure your content is still fresh and adds value. Focus on what happens after people click away from Pinterest and visit your website. Make sure each pin takes the pinner to the right place on your site and that it's still worth keeping in your loop. Clean up your pins as you go. Everything you do on Pinterest should be with the goal to make it a good experience for your followers. Gaining Followers with Tailwind's SmartLoop I want to share a secret tip with you guys. Back in the day, when we had to stay under the maximum cap, we were pinning around sixty pins a day. Now that we've put these Smart Loops into play, we are pinning one hundred pins a day, and our traffic has gone up. Pinterest does change, so I am appreciating this boost right now while acknowledging that someday it may not work in our favor. However, since it is working in our favor right now, we will continue to take advantage of it. How to Set Up SmartLoops You can use your Smart Loops to repeat once a year or you can also set loops to keep going repeatedly. It's a nice feature that lets you customize the release of your loops. You will be able to get more followers by repinning high-quality pins, as well as posting new pins as you release new content. How to Grow Your Pinterest Followers Make sure that you use something like Milotree to grow your followers using Pinterest rules. Milotree will post your newest pins for you, and if they are high quality, and you have people interacting with them, it will signal to Pinterest to show that pin to more people. Pinterest wants: High-quality pins Relevant pins Fresh pins Why SmartLoop Does Not Spam Your Pinterest Boards There is some concern over whether your account will be marked spam if you use a system like Smart Loops, but in reality, this is not a problem. Kate has been in touch with Pinterest and they have confirmed that using Smart Loop will not get you marked as spam. What you do need to think about though is making sure you have a good user experience. You don't want to be putting out the same pin three times a day with low quality. You do not want viewers to look at your profile and see the same pin one hundred times. But if you are peppering the same pin every once in a while onto different boards, that's totally fine. Be very intentional about your keywords and descriptions because Pinterest is using them to decide what to show to viewers based on what they search. Video on Pinterest Video was first rolled out for big companies to promote themselves. But now anyone can upload a video naturally. Kate's best video tips: Less than a minute in length 1:1 ratio  (square) Catchy enough to make them visit your site Keywords in your descriptions Upload pins to relevant boards On the Pinterest app, we're seeing that videos pop up closer to the top during a search. The videos that take up the entire width of your phone screen are paid for. You can only get those with a promoted pin campaign. How to Use Hashtags on Pinterest The key to hashtags is relevance. Pinterest is using hashtags as another type of search term. Be specific and intentional on how you use them. Do not use hashtags to replace keywords, but put your hashtags at the end as a bonus. As marketers, we see Pinterest through a different lens. We see it as a way to market our products and hook our readers. But our users are on the platform solely because they find it helpful. Sticking with one or two hashtags will help more than ten. You can take it slow and test different hashtags to see which works best for you. Pinterest has said to not go back and update your hashtags. It will not help in any way because they're using a chronological format. Using Pinterest Like Your Friends Ask people in your life who are not marketers how they use Pinterest and you'll learn a lot about user behavior. Even when I go onto Pinterest looking for ideas, to me it's a totally different platform than what I use when I'm working on my business. I use secret boards to keep my personal boards and my business boards disconnected from each other. It's kind of like I have two personalities on there. Commenting On Pins Pins with lots of comments are going to rank higher, and that's something we can think about as pinners. Pinterest encourages you to comment on things, but we don't think about that all the time as marketers. When people are commenting on your pins, you should respond and maybe direct them to your website for more content like the pins they're commenting and posting pictures on. As Kate commented on more pins, she began to notice that she was getting followers from the genre of those pins. People feel more inclined to follow you if they feel some kind of connection. Pinterest Communities It is very labor intensive for a business owner to entice people to leave a platform like Facebook that is already community centered and join a community on Pinterest which has much more of a loner vibe. It's also a lot of work to manage communities in two different places. For those reasons and others, Kate has decided not to use the communities feature on Pinterest. Pinterest throws out new ideas all the time to see if people will hop into it and enjoy using it. Just because I am not seeing the benefits of communities, it doesn't mean my audience isn't. Remember, Pinterest is there to serve the user, not the marketer. When Pinterest tries new features, it's because they are trying to find ways they can become more valuable to the user and how they can keep them on their platform longer. Kate's Course Kate created a course for SmartLoop called Tailwind Smart Loop Simplified. One of Tailwind's priorities is providing value to its customers. They want to be sure they aren't wasting their customers' time. Kate created a course that hit three pain points: How to set up Smart Loop How to use it properly How to use it most effectively The course is set up so that people can be up and running confidently in about an hour and a half. I missed out on some big platforms and news in the first in this series, so here are more updates you need to know that happened in 2018 and will impact your 2019! When I started this series, it was meant to be one post. Ha! There have already been updates since I posted. That's why it's so stinking hard to keep up with social media updates! My advice from the first post still holds: if you don't want to PERSONALLY keep up, follow other people who will keep up FOR YOU. Choose the few platforms you want to focus on, choose an expert, and subscribe to their email list. Or read something like Social Media Today so you can get more broad updates. I mean, but really, you'll get a lot from me each week in the Quick Fix, my Friday email with news, tools, trends, tips, and updates.   PINTEREST UPDATES I need to apologize to Pinterest. It is my #1 traffic driver on my blogs. And...I don't pin. I don't hang out. I don't keep up. That's the very cool thing about Pinterest: you can kind of autopilot it. Because it's more of a search engine than a social place, you don't have to like and comment on a giant stream of people's activities. It's just...ideas. Much more timeless. That doesn't mean you can just ignore it, which is what I've been doing. Sorry, Pinterest! Here are some big updates from this year that are good to know! Oh, and if you want to connect there, I have a Create If Writing board that's fabulous and has the content from this site. Pinterest Communities - This is really new and I'm not sure how it will be utilized. So far, I can't even join a community. And you can't see them or make them until you're IN one...so it's kind of like Fight Club? Anyway. Here's a great post about them. I think it could have potential, but if I have a pretty solid understanding of Pinterest and can't actually get IN a community, there is an issue. READ/LISTEN TO MORE ABOUT PINTEREST COMMUNITIES. Pinterest Carousel Pins - Because so many people just scroll through Pinterest, I'm not sure about how these carousel pins, which can have multiple images and links will work. Will Pinterest users really go for these? Unsure. Here's how to test if you have early access.  Lots more little updates - I found this fabulous post from Anastasia Blogger that has a summary of all the things that have changed on Pinterest this year. READ IT.  SmartLoop comes to Tailwind - Tailwind is the only scheduler I use and pay for that works with Pinterest and Instagram. They added a feature that's much like Board Booster's old one that will let you set up pins that will pin again. FIND OUT MORE.  (*If you want to try Tailwind, this is my affiliate link! It's super easy to use and has great features.)  Group boards aren't working so well - This isn't super new, but the group boards that once worked so well (with thousands of pinners) DON'T. Pinterest didn't want to give them priority as they were spammy. Work on having your own quality boards with keywords. Dump the big ones that have no relevance. YOU GUYS. If you aren't using Pinterest, it's not too late to start. And don't get all eye-roll-y on me. It's the easiest platform to use. You don't have to talk to people or play a game. You share great content with relevant keywords in the descriptions. The end. I mean, of course, there's more to it, but essentially, you're putting your content directly into a giant search engine. No follow-for-follow mess or follow-unfollow or whatever else. Even with a small following, your pins can be found and drive traffic to your site. More resources:  Pinterest for Authors (guest post I did for Jane Friedman) Pinterest Tips YOUTUBE UPDATES I had to dive deep into my resources for this one. I pay ZERO attention to YouTube. I love the idea...but I don't have the time. With all the video out there, YouTube is still a crazy-amazing platform if that's the kind of content you want to create! YouTube Studio - This is essentially a new dashboard for creators that will have a brief look at analytics, suggestions, and a place to see YouTube news and updates. (You can see in this screenshot that I'm not big over in the 'Tube...except my one video that's been viewed 50,000 times on painting walls. For real. Too bad I don't blog about that.)  YouTube Premieres - This is a new features that allows you and your audience watch a video together. That sounds kinda fun! And...kinda like the new feature on Facebook where you can have a watch party. How about that! READ MORE ABOUT PREMIERES. YouTube Stories - This is a features just like those other features on those other platforms. Except... it's only for the elite with over 10k subscribers. MORE HERE. YouTube is making its original content free...with ads - YouTube tried the subscription model like Netflix, but decided to scratch that in favor of having its videos come out from behind the paywall (so I can FINALLY watch the new Karate Kid!) but with ads. FIND OUT MORE. I love that last one. You know why? Because YouTube is huge. But they still experimented with a model that's working for others. And when it didn't work, they went back to their strengths. It shows a wisdom to try, but to know when to double-down on what you already do well.   A FEW OTHER THINGS I MISSED Instagram cracks down on fake accounts - The cheer was heard 'round the world as Instagram cracked down on fake accounts and some of the smarmier practices. READ MORE. Instagram requires a biz account for many third-party tools now - As of December 2018, Instagram will finally fully shift their API (which started earlier this year). What this means for those of you who, like me, don't know what API stands for, it means that if you want to schedule and post from Tailwind or Hootsuite or another tool, you need your Instagram account to be a business account. The switch is free and almost painless. Your engagement might disagree, as mine dropped when I switched. For Podcasters, Libsyn integrates with Pandora - Y'all. I don't have this yet, but for podcasters using Libsyn for their media hosting, you can get your podcast on Pandora, which I believe is the largest audio streaming platform PERIOD. I'm a huge fan of Libsyn and would highly recommend them for podcasters for reasons like this one. They care about podcasters and go out to get features that matter. READ MORE. LinkedIn is doing some things (like thinking really hard about a stories-like feature) and Snapchat is making new spectacles, but I don't really care. At all.   TIPS FOR KEEPING UP WITH SOCIAL MEDIA My first tip for keeping up is that you should FOCUS. Unless you have a job that requires you pay attention to ALL social media, stop trying! I feel totally okay that I had to spend time googling "YouTube new features 2018" to write this post. Pick the few platforms you care about and just do that work. The end. Don't worry about Instagram if you don't use it. If you think you MIGHT use it, don't worry now. Worry when you want to use it. The platform will change if you're looking now, planning for then. I've found more and more as I go on that all the social media activity I strived to gain means very little. I mean, I have almost 10k Twitter followers. That was a huge goal years ago! But...it doesn't DO anything for me. What DOES work? Relationships. Those could happen on social. They happen for me in the Facebook group. And on my email list. Those two together are like my magic. Find your magic! The thing that you enjoy that DOES something for you. Then just do that and don't feel at all guilty that you ignore everything else. Okay? Great. Glad we got that squared away.   If you really like knowing what's up, visit a site like Social Media Today once a week and just scan the headlines. It's fabulous and easy. You'll impress your friends. (Maybe.)

There are roughly 4.5 billion apps that proclaim they’ll help you manage and schedule your social media, but there’s one in particular that is really piquing the interest of graphic designers: Tailwind. A social media scheduling app that allows you to post to Pinterest and Instagram, two very important platforms for interior designers, Tailwind is a key tool for those who are doing their own social media. So today on the podcast Darla and Natalie are talking to Melissa Megginson, the community manager of Tailwind, who describes her job as being there to make sure Tailwind’s users look good and are having success on Pinterest and Instagram. What You’ll Hear On This Episode of Wingnut Social [3:28] Can you harass Melissa? How you can use Tailwind for your interior design business Posting to Pinterest and Instagram is essential for interior designers’ marketing efforts, but it takes a TON of time. As Melissa tells us on this week’s episode, Tailwind allows you to schedule your pins from your computer, from your blog, wherever it’s most convenient, and allows you to post directly to Instagram as well. One of Tailwind’s greatest features is what Darla calls its “magical fairy dust algorithm” (™) which allows users to see when the most effective times to post are, and then the app schedules your pins and posts to those times. The Smart Schedule looks at your PInterest and Instagram followers and when they’re on the most often, allowing you to increase your visibility. It lets you get that 5 to 10 pins a day, at least, in front of your followers’ eyes. Create an aesthetic on Pinterest Pinterest can be huge for interior designers, but one thing a lot of designers struggle with is content. Whether you’re new, or you haven’t been thinking of content online for years, you may not have hundreds of photos or blog posts to share. That’s why Melissa recommends thinking of Pinterest as a magazine rather than a catalog. Build an aesthetic that people will be interested in on Pinterest, rather than just showing your own work. Melissa is a wealth of knowledge about how to get the most of your Pinterest and Instagram, and one of the fascinating things she says is that it’s best for your Pinterest to not just be your own work. As she says, a representative from Pinterest recommended that you split about 50/50 between your content and other people’s content that you find compelling or matching your aesthetic. Bigfoot Biomedical came on the scene in 2014 determined to change the way companies look at diabetes technology. They've moved forward quickly and are now starting their first clinical trial for their "Smartloop" automated insulin delivery system. Stacey talks to Bigfoot Chief Engineer Lane Desborough about what this system is, what the trial is testing, and how you can find out if you're eligible to enroll. Desborough is also the co-creator of Nightscout, the free, open source CGM remote monitoring system and is credited with coining the term "We are not waiting." Like all four founders of Bigfoot, Desborough has a child with type 1 diabetes.

Today we talk with the developer from Notice Software who make roost.me and smartloop.com. Both services comes from Notice Software which specializes in Push notification. Roost.me Roost.me is a free service and wordpress plugin that you can use to allow your visitors to be update via a push message to their phone. The nice thing about this is you can get instant stats on how many messages were sent and how many people opened the message. I signed up and had it running on my site in under 10 minutes. If you spend a little extra money you can schedule your push notification and to make sure you're not wasting time of your readers you can geotarget your messages (so you don't send a message to California about your meeting in Ohio). You can also autopush via RSS ($29 a month). You can check out their site at www.roost.me Smartloop.com Smartloop.com is similar to Roost but think of it as an intranet push service (for businesses to push to employees). For pricing information about Smartloop see their website at http://smartloop.io
