What is the difference between product solution fit and product market fit? David Hirschfeld is a seasoned software development expert with over three decades of experience, having held leadership roles at renowned companies like Computer Associates and Intel. He is known for his critical stance on traditional software development methodologies, which he argues often lead to prolonged development cycles and excessive costs. Advocating for his innovative "launch first method," Hirschfeld focuses on minimizing risk and accelerating success by integrating AI-driven workflow optimization, thereby reducing dependence on investor funding. His approach emphasizes creating realistic prototypes and fostering early customer interactions to validate business models, ensuring that startups can efficiently and accurately meet market demands. Key Takeaways: Focus on product solution fit over product market fit is crucial for success in software development. Early sales are important to validate the business model and confirm product-market fit. Prototyping with high-fidelity prototypes helps in assessing customer interest and identifying issues early on. Crafting product demos focused on solving immediate problems helps in achieving product-market fit. Detailed metrics, Kanban methodology, and constant releases are essential for accuracy and efficiency in software development projects. Tracking estimates and actuals, spending time in prototyping, and detailed scope management are key for project success. Maintaining accuracy in estimates and reporting variances is crucial for successful project execution. More from David Hirschfeld David Hirschfeld is the Founder and CEO of Tekyz Corp, a software development company dedicated to accelerating startups through expert product development, AI integration, and workflow automation. With nearly two decades of experience leading Tekyz, David created the Launch 1st methodology—an innovative approach that helps software founders achieve product-market fit fast while avoiding the most common and costly startup pitfalls. Under his leadership, Tekyz has become a go-to partner for software recovery projects, rescuing troubled initiatives and transforming them into scalable, successful ventures. David also shares his insights as the host of the Scaling Smarter podcast and serves as a trusted board member and advisor across various industries. Throughout his career, David has co-founded several ventures, including the groundbreaking social media startup Kloojj and Anzu LLC, a thriving offshore development hub he continues to lead in Pune, India. His broad expertise spans sectors such as real estate, healthcare, logistics, law enforcement, entertainment, and IoT—bringing a unique, cross-disciplinary perspective to every project. With a passion for solving complex problems and creating beautiful, user-centered systems, David remains deeply committed to helping visionary founders bring bold ideas to life—quickly, intelligently, and with lasting impact.   Website: https://tekyz.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dhirschfeld/   If you are an experienced CEO looking to grow your company, visit https://www.TheCEOProject.com   You can also reach Jim by email: Jim@TheCEOProject.com   LinkedIn: @theceoproject Instagram: @the_ceoproject Twitter/X: @the_CEO_Project Facebook:  @IncCEOproject

Welcome to our latest episode where we delve into the crucial topic of estate planning and business continuity with Oscar Vasquez, a state planning software coordinator. This discussion is not just for personal asset management but is especially tailored for entrepreneurs who wish to secure their business's future. Estate Planning and Business Continuity Oscar kicks off our discussion by emphasizing the importance of having solid estate plans in place, which includes everything from wills to detailed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). He shares an enlightening story about a bakery owner who successfully protected his business for future generations through meticulous legacy planning. The conversation, however, highlights that while Oscar's company provides software solutions for such planning, they do not directly integrate SOPs into their systems or templates. Living Trust and Affordable Legal Assistance Understanding the concept of a living trust can be daunting. Oscar breaks it down simply as a contract meant to safeguard one's assets for their beneficiaries, bypassing the need for lengthy probate hearings and avoiding hefty taxes. He proudly discusses how their service fills the gap between costly attorney fees and often insufficient DIY solutions, offering a middle-ground service that's both comprehensive and financially accessible. Software Solutions for Trust Management The benefits of using specialized software for trust management are vast. Oscar shares how their platform allows for unlimited changes, enabling users to adjust their plans as life situations evolve. He shares a touching story of a young couple using the trust to start saving for their future grandchildren's education, illustrating the personal and proactive nature of estate planning. Navigating Probate and Protecting Your Legacy Oscar explains the often misunderstood process of probate, detailing how it can expose estates to public scrutiny and potential scams, and significantly delay beneficiaries' access to bequeathed assets. To underscore the importance of a well-structured estate plan, he offers a discount code for listeners looking to start their journey in safeguarding their business and personal assets. Closing Thoughts As we wrap up, Oscar's insights remind us of the critical role estate planning plays not just in personal asset management but in ensuring the continuity and protection of a business. Listeners are encouraged to consider how they can apply these principles to their own business ventures to ensure a lasting legacy.   Connect with Oscar EstateDocPrep.com  Website  https://estatedocprep.com/ 24/7 Client Assistant AI phone number for Audience Question  805-909-4689 Download Free comprehensive Estate Guide https://estatedocprep.com/guide   For the First 10 members of audience to get a living trust get a $1000 discount code for a Comprehensive Living Trust, use Discount Code:  LEADERS     The Retreat Leaders Podcast Resources and Links: Learn to Host Retreats Join our private Facebook Group Top 5 Marketing Tools Free Guide Free Top 11 Tips for Building an Email List  Get your legal docs for retreats      Thanks for tuning into the Retreat Leaders Podcast. Season 06 Episode 09: IRL? In Real Life? Software solutions and AI in work designTrajce struggles with the ideas of ‘flow efficiency,' likening this to urine tract functioning. Sorry, Anna Linning - a subscriber who asked about ‘flow'… Alan connects the idea to Flo's scones, Flo Bjelke-Petersen's famous pumpkin scones. Sara brings the boys back around to discuss psychological flow, theories from Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, and links these ideas to job redesign and software solutions. She shares one of the ViVA team's software solution partners, “Beam me up with Beamible” for agile job design with what-if scenarios and cost analytics to build a business case. Alan tongue twists the word, “discombobulated” because of interrupted workflows, while he shares content on legilsative obligations of company directors. Sara provides a human factors perspective on interruptions - about 20 minutes of task reorientation. She gives the example of nurses getting interrupted during medication administration and the risks for administration error. Sara talks about information and business architecture while organisations grow organically like a wild beast. The design objective, she explains, is to aim for ‘reliability with resilience' – the right ‘tensions', the ‘R&R Tensions.'The conversation takes a twist as Sara discusses her brother's, Robert's, lectures in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the historic development of AI from the 1950's. Sara mentions more of ViVA's tech partners, Lachlan Phillips of livemind.ai, develops closed-domain data support systems, and Real Serious Games for extended reality solutions. She recalls a conversation with Lachlan who asks her about doing a joint presentation, “IRL?” “In real life?” – like there needs to be an acronym to distinguish the real versus virtual world.

And in a significant development this year, BaxEnergy was acquired by Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a global leader in the industrial automation and control industry. This strategic move is set to bolster BaxEnergy's position in the renewable energy market and open doors to new technologies and markets. And that's what I want to talk about today. Dr. Massaro is here today to share his insights on BaxEnergy's journey. They're groundbreaking work in renewable energy management and the exciting future ahead following the Yokogawa acquisition. Simone, welcome to the show. It's great to be here. Thank you. Was that an adequate introduction? Because you guys are doing so much at BaxEnergy. It is amazing the capabilities you're providing to the renewable industry. Simone Massaro: Yeah, I mean, BaxEnergy is essentially a software solution provider. And is focused on doing one thing and one thing only, which is making renewable energy more affordable for everyone. And the way that we do that is by making the power plants more efficient. BaxEnergy is creating and delivering the software solution that is taking control of the renewable energy power plants, and is actually making them more efficient. In other words it's taking all the aspects of the power plants that are difficult to handle the dark side of the renewable energy and is transforming it into something more efficient. Our history as commenced about 10 years ago with the development of a solution, which was optimizing wind farms. And was focused on wind energy. And then from that, we evolved into solar energy, hydroelectrical energy, geothermal energy. And nowadays we're working a lot with hydrogen, which is a little bit of the forefront of energy storage. Not many people realize how difficult it is to work with renewable energy because renewable energy are by nature uncontrollable. The reason is that the source of the energy itself, the sun or the wind. They are at their source. They are uncontrollable. They are not depending on the will of the man. So we we wanted to have energy on demand, but in reality, the sun is shining and the wind is blowing on a completely different schedule. So our focus is to make sure that it is possible to create a balance on the n...

Welcome back to the Alt Goes Mainstream podcast.Today we have the operator's view on the show. We bring in someone who rose up the ranks of a private equity-backed software company to be CEO of that company — ECi Software Solutions — that now generates over $500M in revenue and $200M in EBITDA.We welcome Ron Books, now an Operating Partner at Carlyle and the CEO at Net Health, a Carlyle portfolio company. He also sits on a number of boards for Carlyle. He is now the Chairman and is the former CEO of ECi Software Solutions, a leading global provider of cloud-based software for SMEs, which he successful sold to Leonard Green & Partners for a multi-billion dollar exit. Ron started with ECi when it was a startup company and rose in the organization to serve as VP Sales, then COO, and then CEO, a position which he held from 2009 to 2021. While serving as CEO, Ron and his team developed and executed a strategic plan that included overseeing 46 M&A transactions and a successful software license to cloud migration across nearly a dozen platforms. They received investment from — and sold the business to — Insight Partners, Carlyle, Apax Partners, Goldman Sachs, and most recently, Leonard Green & Partners. Under his leadership as CEO, ECi grew from less than $50M in revenue to over $500M and a sale of the company in 2020 at a multi-billion dollar valuation.Ron has all the hallmarks of a successful entrepreneur — energetic yet thoughtful, a tireless work ethic, the ability to connect with customers and employees, and loyalty to both customers and employees.Ron and I had a fascinating conversation about what it takes to build a great company and culture and how to work with private equity given that he's been on both sides of the table. We discussed:Lessons learned from growing a business to $500M in revenue and $200M in EBITDA.How he built and grew ECi through acquisitions and globalizing the business. Why culture matters and how to vet for culture in the hiring process.Stories from the challenges and successes of integrating 41 companies via M&A.How founders should think about working with private equity firms. How founders can get the most out of their board members and operating partners. The transition from CEO to Operating Executive back to CEO.Thanks Ron for coming on the show to share your wisdom and experiences that are an invaluable source of learnings for both founders and investors.

In this episode of Elixir Wizards, Xiang Ji and Nathan Hessler join hosts Sundi Myint and Owen Bickford to compare actor model implementation in Elixir, Ruby, and Clojure. In Elixir, the actor model is core to how the BEAM VM works, with lightweight processes communicating asynchronously via message passing. GenServers provide a common abstraction for building actors, handling messages, and maintaining internal state. In Ruby, the actor model is represented through Ractors, which currently map to OS threads. They discuss what we can learn by comparing models, understanding tradeoffs between VMs, languages, and concurrency primitives, and how this knowledge can help us choose the best tools for a project. Topics discussed in this episode: Difference between actor model and shared memory concurrency Isolation of actor state and communication via message passing BEAM VM design for high concurrency via lightweight processes GenServers as common abstraction for building stateful actors GenServer callbacks for message handling and state updates Agents as similar process abstraction to GenServers Shared state utilities like ETS for inter-process communication Global Interpreter Lock in older Ruby VMs Ractors as initial actor implementation in Ruby mapping to threads Planned improvements to Ruby concurrency in 3.3 Akka implementation of actor model on JVM using thread scheduling Limitations of shared memory concurrency on JVM Project Loom bringing lightweight processes to JVM Building GenServer behavior in Ruby using metaprogramming CSP model of communication using channels in Clojure Differences between BEAM scheduler and thread-based VMs Comparing Elixir to academic languages like Haskell Remote and theScore are hiring! Today on Elixir Wizards, Manuel Rubio, author of Erlang/OTP: A Concurrent World and Dan Plyukhin, creator of the UIGC Actor Garbage Collector for Akka, join host Dan Ivovich to compare notes on garbage collection in actor models. The discussion digs into the similarities and differences of actor-based garbage collection in Erlang and Akka and introduces Dan's research on how to perform garbage collection in a distributed actor system. Topics discussed: Akka is akin to Erlang actors for the JVM using Scala, with similar principles like supervision trees, messages, and clustering Erlang uses generational garbage collection and periodically copies live data to the old heap for long-lived elements Actor GC aims to determine when an actor's memory can be reclaimed automatically rather than manually killing actors Distributed actor GC is more challenging than object GC due to the distributed nature and relationships between actors across nodes Challenges include reasoning about failures like dropped messages and crashed nodes GC balance requires optimization of resource release and CPU load management Immutability helps Erlang GC, but copying data for messages impacts performance Research into distributed actor GC is still ongoing, with opportunities for improvement Fault tolerance in Erlang relies on user implementation rather than low-level guarantees Asynchronous messages in Erlang/Elixir mean references may become invalid which is similar to the distributed GC approaches in Dan's research Idempotent messaging is recommended to handle possible duplicates from failures Help your local researcher!
