Lot's wife made a choice that ended in tragedy. But her legacy is a warning about the desire to live in the past instead of moving forward in faith. No matter how good or bad our past is, we serve a good God who tells us to forget the former things and get ready for the new things. This week on The Land and the Book, Tammy Whitehurst brings us face-to-face with Lot's wife--who still speaks to us. Send us a Text Message.Episode 305 is one my favorites because it is with one of my favorite people. Tammy Whitehurst is an author and speaker. She brings joy to everything that she does. I can't wait for you to meet her too. https://tammywhitehurst.com/As a motivational Christian speaker, Tammy loves to encourage and watch women discover JOY found in the truth of God's Word. Whether speaking to a large crowd, small crowd, or anything in between, she wants people to realize they can have JOY in their journey no matter what they have been through or what they are going through at the present time.Tammy begins every talk with laughter that progresses to serious content. As she transitions from laughter to serious topics, the audience is impacted. They leave with purpose and a goal to do something different in their lives.Tammy's messages always end with Jesus and what He can do in our lives. She is not a comedian but she does use humor in all of her talks. She would love to meet you, laugh with you, and share about the hope and joy that comes when we know Jesus.Tammy encourages her audiences to live an intentional and authentic Christian life that will bring them peace and overwhelming joy. The keys to life are all found in God's Word and it never grows out of date or out of style. God's Word is always relevant.God's Word tells us in Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart does good like medicine…” Laughter is a great starter because it loosens the audience up and they are glad they came. Many will tell her afterward they have not laughed in a long time. The power of laughter helps us get through the difficult days. Support the Show.

On Today's Episode: I'm talking to Tammy Whitehurst. Tammy is the co-director of the Christian Communicator's Conference, a training conference for speakers. However, to those who know her best she is simply Davis's wife, an empty nest mom, and a former middle school teacher. Tammy told me she's built her team around the premise of “collaboration over competition.” When I heard that, I knew she was my people, and I had to have her on the podcast. KEY TAKEAWAY POINTS: Abundance vs. Scarcity Mindset! Just because God blesses you with a gift, doesn't diminish His ability to bless me with my own unique gift. Collaborators know how to learn from others. Collaborators are inviters. Collaborators are includers. Usually, they've felt the sting of being on the outside. Collaborators have been underdogs. Collaborators want to see and applaud the gifts God's given other people. Collaborators are confident in the gifts God's given them. Collaborators are encouragers. Collaborators want to see other people succeed. Collaborators share. Collaboration is a Win-Win! QUOTES: “When you collaborate instead of compete with other people, you get MORE doors open to you!” (Tammy) “You do what God's called you to do, and we work together to do something really awesome” (Tammy) “When we compete ... we're ultimately going to end up alone” (Tammy) “Competition is lonely” (Julie) When people compete ... “Satan's like a buzzard. He just roams around picking people apart one painful piece at a time” (Tammy). “Collaboration is a happier place. You don't have jealousy and envy. You accept the call god's put on your life and do it well” (Tammy). “Don't die with buried treasure!” (Tammy) SCRIPTURE: “Make a careful exploration of who you are and the work you have been given, and then sink yourself into that. Don't be impressed with yourself. Don't compare yourself with others. Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life" (Galatians 6:4-5, The MSG). "I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God's grace" (Acts 20:24, NIV). ********************************************* For the woman who is discouraged from even trying because she feels like she can't compete: Step out on two-footed faith. One footed faith says, “Okay Jesus, I'm going to step out in faith, but just in case you don't come through for me, I'm going to have Plan B, C, D, E, F and G.” Believe that the impossible is possible. So many people stop before they even get started because they think they have to be perfect. Cemeteries are filled with stories that were never told, songs that were never sung, teachers that never taught. CHRISTIAN COMMUNICATORS CONFERENCE: Christian Communicators Conference: “It's a small conference where big things happen” (Tammy) If you would like to collaborate with other Christian speakers, this conference is the place to be no matter where you're at on your speaking journey. American culture treats age as a curse and the elderly as expired goods. I've watched older folks with dread. I often fear the impending years when I could receive the world's judgment of "too old" to contribute, matter, or live with quality. Our Creator reserves the right to judge our worth or purposefulness at any age, however. History abounds with valid exceptions to the errant standards of American agism. Consider the impact made upon eternity by elderly giants in literature, science, and Judeo-Christian faith leadership. Abraham and Sarah parented the first child of the Jewish line in their nineties. Moses had aged past eighty when he led Israel through the desert. And the Lord blessed Anna to speak prophecy over the infant Messiah during her service as an ancient widow in the Temple. We are never too old for a new beginning! Who says getting older has to be boring? Tammy Whitehurst talks about how we can age funny, fearlessly, and full of faith. Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast
Episode Summary: In this episode, we’re talking about the hope we have for moving from trials to triumph. My guest today, Tammy Whitehurst, shares how the hope God gives for today and the new strength He gives for tomorrow turns our trials into opportunities for praise. Quotables from the episode: We often get stuck going backwards, but life is meant to be lived in a forward motion. A broken heart can leave us bitter and wasting our days or better for it. So often our problems turn into praises if we will just hold on long enough. Every mess has a Messiah who wants to see us through it and turn our mess into a message. We can either allow life to get us stuck in a rut, or run toward God. God’s grip doesn’t slip! I’ve never seen the back of Jesus, but he’s seen my back plenty of times. We need to fight with faith, not our fist. Disappointment drove me to the depths of despair. When we swim in a sea of unforgiveness, it pulls us under. The power of forgiveness is huge. Worship while you wait. Don’t concentrate on what you don’t know—focus on what you do know: God’s truth. The enemy is not going to be convinced until you are. Hope comes from Jesus—grab hold of Him. I want to live every day doing my best and letting God do the rest. You may be bent, but you’re not broken! Scripture References: 1 John 4:4 “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” Acts 20:24 “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” Isaiah 54:17 “But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Recommended Resources: Free Download: How To Fight Fearful/Anxious Thoughts and Win Breaking Anxiety’s Grip: How to Reclaim the Peace God Promises by Dr. Michelle Bengtson Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Free Study Guide Free 7-Day YouVersion Bible Reading Plan for Breaking Anxiety’s Grip Hope Prevails: Insights from a Doctor’s Personal Journey Through Depression by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Hope Prevails Bible Study by Dr. Michelle Bengtson, winner of the Christian Literary Award Reader’s Choice Award Social Media Links for Host and Guest: Connect with Tammy Whitehurst: Website / Facebook / Christian Communicators / Podcast For more hope, stay connected with Dr. Bengtson at: Order Book Breaking Anxiety’s Grip / Order Book Hope Prevails / Website / Blog / Facebook / Twitter (@DrMBengtson) / LinkedIn / Instagram / Pinterest / YouTube / Podcast About Tammy Whitehurst: Author, and full time speaker Tammy Whitehurst encourages and challenges audiences to live life kicked up a notch. Admitting you're a control freak isn't something any of us want to do. Yet, those of us, myself included, who like things to be done a certain way or want to have a say in the outcome of an activity have struggles with control. We want control. What if demanding or expecting control demonstrates a lack of trust? A lack of trust in our spouse or our children. A lack of trust in the government or our employer. You get the idea. But what if our desire to be in control demonstrates a lack of trust in God? What message is that sending God? Perhaps it says we don't trust Him to provide our dreams and wishes just exactly as we envision them. Maybe it says His way isn't the best way. My guest, Tammy Whitehurst, admits she was a control freak. She confesses the ways she attempted to control others and situations. It was stealing her joy. An unexpected heart condition which required surgery led to Tammy making some big changes in her life. Not long after she made those changes, she found abundant joy. She realized her control freak mentality really meant she wasn't trusting God with the details of her life. Listen in and learn how Tammy found abundant joy when she kicked her control freak mentality to the curb.Learn more about Tammy at www.tammywhitehurst.com and follow her on her Facebook page at Tammy Whitehurst Speaker.
