Pastors in expensive cities often cannot afford stable housing on ministry salaries. That financial pressure quietly threatens their ability to serve. If you want to see your faith show up in practical, tangible ways at work and with your money, this episode gives you a real example of what that looks like. Key Discussion Points Nicole explains how the Aslan Housing Foundation builds down payment assistance programs for pastors, using church investors, donor-advised funds, and self-directed IRAs to fund stable housing without competing with the church's general giving. She describes a core operating value: do nothing about staff without staff. Surveys go out to both church leadership and pastoral staff before any housing strategy is built, so the people with the actual need have a voice in the solution. Nicole unpacks what she calls a triple bottom line for investors: market-rate financial returns, a stabilized ministry, and a more secure pastor and family. She talks about how she brings her faith into secular professional settings without forcing it, including sending a simple email to a real estate team in Hawaii during flooding to let them know she was praying for their safety. She and host Addison Williams discuss how Christians in any profession hold two marketplace roles: what they do with their time at work and what they do with their money outside of it. About the Guest Nicole Marie Bergeron is the founder and CEO of Aslan Housing Foundation, a California-based nonprofit that helps churches develop housing strategies for their pastoral staff. She holds a joint degree in law and public policy and spent two decades in philanthropy and social impact work before launching Aslan in 2018. Her background gives her a systems-level view of a problem most church leaders have never named out loud. A three-year-old boy. Yellow t-shirt. Alone in a pediatric cancer ward in Uganda. His family had just dropped him off and left. That moment wasn't a business plan. It wasn't a strategy. It was a calling. And from it, Letha Sandison built a cause-based clothing line to fund chemotherapy for kids before cause-based brands even existed. Then she came home and built a wellness community rooted in the same question: how can I be of service? Letha Sandison is the founder of Four Moons Spa in Encinitas, California, a wellness sanctuary built on belonging, community, and values-led entrepreneurship. In this conversation, she and George trace her journey from Uganda to California, from nonprofit to wellness playground, and unpack what it actually looks like to build a business and a life by following what genuinely calls you. What You'll Learn In This Episode: How a single moment in a Ugandan cancer ward became the foundation of a career Why a strong enough "why" is what carries you through when entrepreneurship stops feeling good What living in Uganda taught Letha about community, gratitude, and perspective The "onion days and strawberry days" framework for navigating hardship How values function as a living operating system, not words on a wall Why collaboration over competition is her best business decision How to sit with setbacks before rushing to fix them The three pillars George distills from the conversation: why, service, and community Key Takeaways: ✔️Following curiosity and passion isn't naive, it's a navigational system. The businesses that last are built on something that calls you, not something that's trending. ✔️Your why has to create an emotion, not just a logical statement. If you can't feel it, it won't carry you through the hard parts. ✔️Service isn't a marketing angle. It's the reason Letha's businesses have lasted across continents and decades. ✔️Onion days are real. You don't shift them by pretending they aren't hard. You sit in them, feel them fully, and make decisions from the other side. ✔️Values are only as real as how you use them. They live in decisions, product choices, team conversations, and what you choose not to do. ✔️Community is not a nice-to-have. It's a survival mechanism: in Uganda, in business, and in life. ✔️Perspective is the difference between your prison and your power. It doesn't mean you smile through hard things. It means you choose how you operate inside of them. ✔️Revenue is a byproduct. It always comes after an equal sign. Focus on who you're serving and the math takes care of itself. ✔️Misalignment is the number one reason businesses fail past a decade. The fix isn't more strategy, it's more honesty about your why, your service, and your community. Building HVAC Science - Building Performance, Science, Health & Comfort
Quotes from the episode: "Great equipment doesn't build a reputation. Great technicians do." "Use AI like a tool, not a crutch. The work still belongs to the person in the attic." "We're missing mentorship across generations, and that gap is costing the trades more than we realize." In this episode, Bill sits down with Rhydon Atzenhoffer, host of the HVAC R&D Podcast, for a wide-ranging conversation that goes well beyond tools and equipment. Rhydon shares how his show evolved from casual, relationship-driven conversations during COVID into a platform focused on learning, perspective, and the advancement of the trades. At the core of it all is a simple idea: HVAC is a people business first. The discussion digs into real points of tension in the industry, from the disconnect between engineers and field technicians to the way regulation is now driving much of the innovation cycle. Rhydon offers a candid take: great equipment is only as good as the people who install and service it, and too often those voices are underrepresented. He also highlights the growing role of AI and structured knowledge systems, not as replacements for technicians, but as tools to sharpen skills and preserve best practices. The episode closes with a strong call to action for contractors and business owners alike. Rhydon emphasizes collaboration over competition, investing in people, and rebuilding mentorship pipelines that once defined the trades. It's a forward-looking conversation grounded in experience, with a clear message: the future of HVAC depends on how well we develop people, not just products. Success in business isn't just about strategy. It's also about proximity - who you're around, the conversations you're exposed to, and the standards of the rooms you choose to enter. In this solo episode of The Retreat Leaders Podcast, Shannon Jamail shares why being in the right rooms can dramatically accelerate your growth as a retreat leader and entrepreneur. For many years Shannon's business was doing well. But about five years ago, something shifted. She started attending conferences, joining masterminds, and intentionally placing herself in rooms with other high-level entrepreneurs. The result? Her business didn't just grow - it exploded. Because the rooms you choose to enter quietly shape: Your thinking Your standards Your opportunities Your results In this episode, Shannon breaks down the power of proximity and why retreat leaders who want to grow must intentionally place themselves in environments that challenge and expand them. If you've ever wondered whether investing in conferences, masterminds, or industry events is worth it, this conversation will change the way you think about it. What You'll Learn in This Episode • Why proximity is one of the most powerful growth accelerators in business • How the rooms you enter shape your thinking and expectations • The hidden opportunities that come from simply being present in the right environments • Why many entrepreneurs avoid high-level rooms • How retreat leaders can intentionally create proximity that fuels their growth Key Takeaways The Rooms You Choose Shape Your Results Who you spend time with influences: the conversations you hear the ideas you're exposed to the standards you adopt the opportunities you encounter Growth accelerates when you intentionally surround yourself with people who think bigger and operate differently. Proximity Changes Your Thinking Most people believe growth comes from: books courses information Those things matter. But often the biggest shifts happen through exposure. When you're in the right room, you start hearing conversations like: "How do we scale this?" "What systems are you using?" "What worked in your last launch?" "What's your revenue goal this year?" Your brain begins calibrating to a different level of thinking. Standards Are Contagious When you're around people operating at a high level, you start noticing things like: professionalism follow-through preparation attention to detail For retreat leaders, this might look like seeing how others: structure their retreats communicate with guests design experiences price their offerings market their events Suddenly you realize: "Oh… this can be done differently." The Hidden Opportunities Proximity Creates Some of the biggest opportunities in business don't come from marketing. They come from conversations. Many collaborations, referrals, and partnerships begin through simple interactions in the right rooms. Examples include: speaking opportunities partnerships referrals introductions collaborations These opportunities happen when people know and trust you. And trust is built through presence. Why Entrepreneurs Avoid These Rooms Many entrepreneurs hesitate to enter high-level environments because of: Fear "What if I'm not ready?" "What if I don't belong there?" "What if I'm the least experienced person in the room?" Money concerns investment in travel conference tickets mastermind memberships Sometimes it's also ego. But the truth is: Being the least experienced person in the room is often exactly where growth happens. If every room you're in feels comfortable, you're probably not stretching enough. Not Every Room Is the Right Room Discernment matters. The best environments include: Leaders who have actually built successful businesses People willing to share real strategies and lessons Collaborative energy rather than competition Participants who take action The right room should expand your thinking and challenge you to grow. Why Retreat Leaders Need Proximity The retreat industry can feel isolating. As a retreat leader you are often: holding space for others leading the experience making all the decisions Being around other retreat leaders helps you: share strategies troubleshoot challenges stay current with industry trends learn what's working right now You don't have to build your retreat business alone. How to Create Intentional Proximity You don't need to attend every event. But you should choose a few strategic rooms each year. Examples include: conferences industry forums mastermind groups retreats workshops Ask yourself: Where are the people who are doing what I want to be doing? Then make a plan to enter those spaces. Even if it feels uncomfortable. Final Takeaway Proximity changes what you believe is possible. When you see someone else building a thriving retreat business, scaling a company, or creating powerful experiences for their audiences, it moves from theoretical to real. Growth isn't just about what you know. It's about who you're around. Choose your rooms carefully. Because the right room can change everything. If you're serious about growing your retreat business, this is exactly why we created the Retreat Industry Forum. Rooms matter. Who you surround yourself with matters. And proximity to the right leaders can accelerate your business like nothing else. The retreat industry is growing so fast. Especially in the last 6 years. But here's the problem: There has never been a central place for retreat leaders, venues, and professionals to connect, collaborate, and operate at a higher standard. Until now. In this episode of The Retreat Leaders Podcast, Shannon Jamail is joined by Alison, Erin, and Holly Porter, founder of the International Retreat Association, to talk about the future of the retreat industry - and why the timing for this shift couldn't be more important. Holly shares her powerful personal story - from building 12 companies while raising a family to a life-altering 70-day hospital stay during COVID that led to a deeper calling to create something meaningful for the retreat industry. That calling became the International Retreat Association. Together, they dive into: Why the retreat industry has lacked structure and standards The need for a global association to support growth and professionalism How the Retreat Industry Forum, platforms like WeTravel, and associations are creating a full ecosystem Why collaboration - not competition - is the future of this industry What Holly is building with her membership model and long-term vision This episode also marks an exciting milestone as Holly and the International Retreat Association officially join the Retreat Industry Forum as a sponsor, further strengthening the movement to elevate the industry. This Is About Growth - Not Policing Holly makes it clear: This is not about controlling the industry. It's about: elevating standards supporting leaders creating connection building credibility Community Will Define the Future The retreat industry is built on: connection transformation human experience And now it's building a foundation to support that at scale. But here's the real question: How do you know which ones are actually worth your time, energy, and money? In this episode, Shannon sits down with Dora Rankin to talk about discernment in business spaces - especially in a post-COVID world where the coaching and event industry has exploded with noise, hype, and inflated promises. They dive into: Why entrepreneurs are more discerning than ever The rise of "smoke and mirrors" marketing How to vet event hosts and speakers properly What to look for beyond viral posts and flashy branding Why collaboration over competition is the future How to choose rooms that stretch you without compromising your values The importance of structured sales systems alongside marketing If you've ever invested in a room that felt fluffy, performative, or misaligned — this episode will help you make smarter decisions moving forward. Key Takeaways Not all entrepreneurial events are built on substance — discernment matters. Post-COVID attendees expect measurable ROI, not hype. Viral marketing does not equal proven expertise. Testimonials, references, and tangible results matter more than aesthetics. Alignment with leadership style and values is critical. Growth rooms should challenge you — not manipulate you. Collaboration expands credibility and industry standards. Structured sales systems are as important as marketing strategies. About Dora: Dora Rankin is a powerhouse business coach, sales strategist, and author of USA Today bestselling book, The Heart Sell, dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs to scale their businesses and unlock their highest earning potential. So many wedding photographers and filmmakers believe there's a ceiling on their income. That $7,500 packages are “just how it is.”That planners are gatekeepers. That luxury clients aren't for them.In this episode, we sit down with Alyssa and Matt, a husband-and-wife photography team who shattered that belief. They went from hoping for a $7,500 booking to landing a $15,000 wedding before Mastermind was even over. But the real shift wasn't just pricing. It was mindset. They moved from scarcity to abundance. From skepticism to confidence. From playing small to thinking bigger. We talk about raising your wedding photography prices, building genuine planner relationships, creating a high-touch client experience, and redefining what it means to be “local” in today's luxury wedding market. Here's the truth: you can only win if you decide to GO FOR IT.There is no ceiling. You are more capable than you think. The question is… are you ready to move?

When I first started in property management, things felt very different to how they do today. You didn't really connect with the agency down the road, and you certainly didn't sit down with other property managers for a coffee and a chat. Everyone was guarding their rent rolls, and it was more about competing than sharing. The problem is, working that way can feel pretty lonely. Property management is already a tough job, and without a support network it's easy to burn out or feel like you're the only one facing certain challenges.Thankfully, we're starting to see a real shift. More and more property managers are opening up, collaborating, and building communities that make the work lighter, smarter and far more enjoyable. In this episode I chat with Corinne Forsyth, Head of Property Management at Ray White Beenleigh and Redland Bay, who has been right at the centre of this change. Starting out on the front desk at just 16, she's worked her way through just about every role in the industry. Now she leads a team of 10 and plays an active part in creating spaces for property managers to connect from local “Coffees and Conversations” meetups to a brand new industry book club. “ You can get further in life by working with people rather than constantly being pitted against each other, because that's a pretty miserable way to have a career.” - Corrine ForsythWe cover:Why collaboration over competition in property management is helping to lift industry standards and reduce burnoutHow to host a Coffees and Conversations event that brings property managers together and builds a supportive local networkThe retention benefits of encouraging your property management team to network, learn and grow outside the officeHow Corinne's experience in sales and overcoming burnout shaped her confidence and leadership in property managementWhy consistent property management training and external voices can improve your team's performance and client serviceHow the PM Book Club is creating a new space for property managers to connect, share ideas and focus on self development.Practical BDM strategies that free up time, improve data collection and drive sustainable rent roll growthWhy business owners need to see property management as the true asset of their agency and how this mindset shift can increase long term value.Kylie's Resources:Property Management Growth School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/TPM-BDMSchool Digital Marketing School: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/digitalschool That Property Mum Courses: https://www.thatpropertymum.com.au/courses/ The PM Accelerate Membership: https://courses.thatpropertymum.com.au/accelerate Book a Strategy Call with Kylie: https://calendly.com/kylie-tpm/coaching-call Kolmeo: https://kolmeo.com/ Sensor Global: https://sensorinsure.com/

On many levels, competition can be a great thing. It can push us to give our absolute all, think creatively, and not give up. But, sometimes there can be a downside to that competitive nature that's gotten you where you are. I'm talking about relationships with your fellow business owners. If you view everyone as your competition then you're short-changing yourself – you could receive so much and give so much from collaborating. That's why Jamie Samples with Yellow Barn Media is joining me on this episode to share some practical ways she has learned to embrace collaboration over competition in the equine industry.
