So, I have been trying since October 4th to get the results of my liver biopsy back. I've been getting the runaround all this time. The quack doctor I have been seeing told me I had Cirrhosis, and it was only a matter of time until I went on to be with Jesus. I went to see my regular doctor and he told me there is no way that prognosis could be correct. He had looked at several scans himself and though I did have fatty liver disease, and there was some fibrosis scar tissue, it is nowhere near cirrhosis . . . https://www.wordsfortheday.com/2023/10/worried-sick/

Anxiety is something we all deal with from day to day. Ian gives us great insight into what the Lord says about worry and how we can have the peace the Lord promises us.
Half of New Zealanders are worrying themselves sick about money, according to a new survey. Younger Kiwis are disproportionately affected: 64 per cent of respondents aged 37 or below worry about money, more than any other age group. And it's all having an impact on well-being. Richard Klipin is chief executive of the Financial Services Council, which compiles the survey, and spoke with Corin Dann.
The Wall Street Journal says there's a five-alarm warning for Republicans happening right now. But is it really a five alarm-warning for all of us? We wanted to ask that question of one of the top experts on American government after an historic and ominous week in America. Norman Ornstein is one of the most famous and respected scholars of American politics and government, he often appears on C-SPAN, CBS, CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, NPR, and “PBS NewsHour,” He served as an election analyst for CBS News for thirty years, and his most recent book was “One Nation After Trump: A Guide for the Perplexed, the Disillusioned, the Desperate, and the Not-Yet Deported."

This is Steve and welcome back to another segment of Press On. This is called Worried Sick. One of the largest growing illnesses in the USA is anxiety disorder. Yet, Paul the author of:Philippians 4:6 calls on us to:Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.National Institute of Mental Health reports An estimated 31.1% of U.S. adults experience some anxiety disorder at some time in their lives. An estimated 19.1% of U.S. adults had any anxiety disorder in the past year. Anxiety disorder is considered a mental illness and is on the rise...it's disabling. With lock downs and distancing over the last two years there is growing concern of the long term psychological impact on children in the years to come. With world tensions growing and graphic images of families fleeing the Ukraine I can only image that these numbers will increase. An article from Psychiatric TodayThe study found 85.7% of parents reported concerning changes in their children's emotions and behaviors. In Mathew 6:25-33 Jesus warns us not to worry. Why, because worry disables us and shifts our trust from him to ourselves. At that point we dwell/obsess over our concerns. Paul exhorts the Philippians to prayer instead of anxiety. It's an intentional act of shifting trust and concerns from yourself to the Lord. Listen, anxiety disorder is serious business...yet I have to wonder, in a culture that has replaced God for self reliance, is this in part, the expected result? Of course it is...1 Peter 5:7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. It's about transferring (casting your worries on Him)…its not magic its hard work and requires a building of trust and behavior change. There is much much more to this story for todaywhen you begin to worry about something...be intentional about shifting your concerns to Jesus. Redirect your trust from you to the SaviorThis is Steve and until we meet again Press On. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Read along to practice your English and to learn the English phrases WORRIED SICK and SICK AS A DOG In this English lesson I wanted to help you learn the English phrase, worried sick. When you are worried sick, it means that you are so worried, you're so stressed about something that you actually feel a little bit sick. When you are worried sick, you're not just worried, you're really, really worried. Probably two examples come to mind of this, two situations where I could say that I was worried sick. And the second one where Jen was worried sick. Normally, when my children go out at night, they come home on time, but sometimes they don't. I know I use this example a lot. If my son goes out and he doesn't come home when he's supposed to, sometimes I'm worried sick. Because like all parents, I'm worried that something bad has happened to him so I'm worried sick. When I went to the hospital to have heart surgery, during my surgery, Jenn was worried sick. So when you are worried sick, it means you're really, really worried about something.WANT MORE ENGLISH LESSONS? GO TO YOUTUBE AND SEARCH, "BOB THE CANADIAN"The other phrase I wanted to teach you today is the phrase sick as a dog. I don't know why we add dogs into the mix when we talk about being sick. But if you're really sick, sometimes we say that you are sick as a dog. I might say to my boss, "Oh, I'm sorry, I couldn't come to work yesterday. I was sick as a dog." You might phone your boss and say, "Oh, could I have a sick day? Because I'm sick as a dog." So sometimes you say sick as a dog, and you can also say as sick as a dog. So I could say, "Oh, I'm as sick as a dog." So by the way, I'm not sick. In fact, I haven't been sick for a very long time. I think because I always wear a mask right now. I just don't get sick for some reason. So I should knock on wood though, so that I don't get sick.Anyways, to repeat, when you are worried sick, it means you're really, really worried about something or really, really stressed about it. And when you are sick as a dog, it simply means that you're extremely sick.Hey, let's look at a comment from a previous video and this comment actually has the word sick in it. So let me read it. This is from Brent or as we all know him, American English with This Guy. By the way, he has a YouTube channel, you should check it out. And American English with This Guy says, "We are the opposite in that respect. I prefer driving, if not, I often get car sick." And my response is, "Interesting, I don't get car sick when riding in a car, but I do get a bit car sick if I try to read. I also get a bit of motion sickness when I sit backwards on a train." So this is in reference to the video from the other day where we were talking about how I didn't like to drive. I do like to drive like little short trips, but if I go on a long trip, I don't like to drive. I like to take the train. I like to fly in planes. And Brent, who is American English from This Guy, is saying he likes to drive because if he doesn't drive, he feels a little sick to his stomach. That's something that we call car sickness or he gets car sick. We also call it motion sickness. And I definitely get that if I go on the train and if I choose a seat where I'm sitting backwards on the train, I usually get kind of a funny feeling in my head and in my stomach, I get a little bit of motion sickness. So anyways, Brent, thank you very much for that comment. That was awesome of you.I do have to apologize to all of you who commented on that last video. I didn't have time to read all of your comments or respond to any of them. I only responded to Brent, which is abnormal. Usually I take the time to respond to almost all of you. Restoration Kids INVITATION----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------People of God,Although we cannot be together as our normal practice allows, we have an exciting opportunity to join together in spirit with one another and with the early church by worshiping as they worshiped: in our homes with those closest to us. We encourage you to use the following liturgy (simply translated as “the work of the people”) to worship (if not home alone) with your family, loved ones, neighbors, or anyone who may not be able to join their normal worshiping community this week. This is a guide, not a rule. You may feel free to change anything to fit your abilities as worshipers.Much like our early church brothers and sisters:Use the gifts available to you. Lead as skillfully as you are able. Be creative. Glorify God. Seek to be formed into the image of Christ. In other words: Worship.PreparationConsider lighting a candle, incense, essential oils, or something else to signal that worship has begun and that God is present wherever and whenever you are or where two or more gather in God’s name.GATHERING----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------CALL TO WORSHIPWhen we worship, we acknowledge that God is the one who calls us to himself. If there is more than one person gathered with you, choose one person in your family or group to read as ONE and another to read as ALL. These may continue as ONE and ALL throughout this time or new readers may be selected for each movement.ONE: Praise the Lord, who has shown us the wonders of his unfailing love;and who, for the sake of his name, leads us and guides us.ALL: In you, O Lord, we put our trust. You are our God,and our lives are in your hands.ONE: Lord, let the light of your face shine on usas we celebrate together in your presence. Amen.PraiseWe are always responding to God’s voice and actions in worship. Pray freely as you feel led or ONE may pray the following aloud:A Prayer for Anxious TimesGracious God, Champion of the Universe, we so often fluff ourselves up.Aren’t we the only creatures who compose masterpieces of music and art? Don’t we govern ourselves, enrich ourselves, promote ourselves? Can’t we dunk basketballs, bat baseballs, spike volleyballs? Aren’t some of us masters of comic irony? Other creatures don’t practice rocket science. We do.And yet. Here we are, frightened by a thing so small it can’t be seen under most microscopes. It’s not even an animal or a plant. It’s a virus, a mere parasite, dependent on our own living cells to replicate. And yet it has shuttered our schools, cancelled our flights, and emptied our churches. It has consumed the attention of our leading scientists, wrenched our politics out of shape, dominated our conversations, and scared the daylights out of us.We don’t want to get sick. And we don’t want to die.We are afraid, O God. Afraid of a microorganism. Afraid of each other.Great and quiet source of peace, quiet our fears. We are wary, uncertain, strung tight. Quiet our fears. We have no idea what the future will bring, but we do know you will be in our future to hold us there. We cannot quiet ourselves, O God. We cannot comfort ourselves, cannot heal ourselves, cannot help ourselves. All we can do is wash our hands and keep our distance. Our rocket science is no good to us for this threat.O God, great and quiet source of peace, quiet us, your anxious ones, and let us cling for comfort to your suffering Son, Jesus Christ. Gather us under his wings. Remind us that he suffers with us, but he’s also the great physician. In him, let us not be afraid. Please, let us not be afraid.Amen.TABLE----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The Lord’s Supper / CommunionHere God feeds us with heavenly food which is a taste and a sign of God's kingdom. Much like any family meal, this meal is special not because it is rare, but because it is common. Everytime we celebrate communion we get a glimpse of God’s kingdom.Consider moving to the kitchen or to the dining table.Prepare your feast by gathering the following:Bread: If you don’t have bread use crackers, or rice cakes, or leftover pancakes from breakfast...get creative! Anything that is nourishing will do!Juice: If you don’t have grape juice use orange juice, or any other juice you have available. Milk will also do (consider adding a bit of honey to remind yourself of God’s Promised Land of milk & honey). Get creative...any sensible drink will do...even water! Before you celebrate and eat together, pray this prayer:ONE: Thank you God, for creating the world, for creating us in your image, and for showing your love for us by sending Jesus to save us.ALL: Thank you God, for our Savior, Jesus Christ who died for us, rose from the grave, and who is coming again.ONE: Send your Holy Spirit to make Jesus real to us in this meal and to connect us with Christians who have lived before us and who will live after us.Words of InstitutionRemembering Jesus’ instructions at the Last Supper before his crucifixion.ONE: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.—based on 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, NIVBreak the bread (or a cracker, etc.)Each worshiper may serve another simply saying “This is for you.”Worshipers may respond with “Thanks be to God” or “And also for you”.Take your time as you serve and receive.Consider the joy of resurrection and Christ’s presence with you.Dwell in the joyful and confident hope of Christ’s return.Listen to this song while you celebrate or as a reflection after. Far too often we want God to behave like a good deity should—to be there when we want him, to amaze us with his provision, to bail us out of tough spots, to show us his supernatural power when we can’t make things happen the way we want them to happen. Quite simply, we want him to fit into our box. But when we do that we are acting as the supreme being…which we are not! He is! And he will always be about his Father’s business, which is to bring fullness of life to his children. Scripture Reading: Luke 2:41-52
The “Spanish flu” virus of 1918 killed an estimated 50 million people, more than all the deaths in World War I combined. While global public health efforts have greatly improved mortality rates in more modern outbreaks, experts say the next pandemic is a matter of “when,” not “if.” In this episode, Ian Bremmer takes a look how diseases spread and become global. His guest, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is a leading epidemiologist and director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the NIH.

No Man's Land: Worried SickMost of us have a very well-developed Fear in our heads - that voice of constant worry, ruminating over anything and everything that might go wrong. Some of us also feel guilty when we worry, because somewhere along the way we were taught that worrying means we don’t love or trust God. The question then becomes, is fear and worry wrong?Rather than worry over that question, let’s focus on Jesus, who fully understood what it means to worry. The truth is, in him we find a God who desires to carry that burden with us.This Sunday we take a closer look at what Jesus tells us about the role of worry in our lives.
Is worry or anxiety trying to rule your life? Has it paralyzed you from truly living? Listen in to Tammy Whitehurst and Lauren Reeves.

Climbing quickly to the top of the charts are problems with fear, worry, and anxiety. Don’t we have a lot to be anxious about in this life?
Message from 6/4/2017 from the "Did You Know?" series by James Dearmond at New Life Church in Heber Springs, AR.
Jill talks to fisherman Sean Baxter who is based on the north east coast of England. Sean has taught fishing all over the world and has spent 30 years as a volunteer helmsmen of the local lifeboat. Sean explains the perils and pleasures of his job and introduces us to the picturesque fishing village of Staithes in North Yorkshire. For our Cook segment we join Jill in her kitchen as she makes convalescent food for her husband Noah, who had the flu. Jill makes her version of Chinese steamed beef, which is very nourishing and easy to digest. It’s the perfect food for someone who’s recovering from an illness and Jill shares her recipe on the show. In our Heal segment Jill talks to psychotherapist and author Karol Ward. Karol wrote a book called Worried Sick and in this episode she explains why people worry, how to know if worry is getting in the way of your life and what to do to help yourself worry less. Also on this episode Jill answers a listener’s question about using turmeric to help with painful joints.

At a time when access to health care in the United States is being widely debated, Nortin Hadler argues that an even more important issue is being overlooked. Although necessary health care should be available to all who need it, he says, the current health-care debate assumes that everyone requires massive amounts of expensive care to stay healthy.

WORRIED SICK This on demand audio series is a part of the Executive Girlfriends Group Vignette Series. EGG Founder Chicke Fitzgerald is interviewing author Karol Ward. The original live interview was 9/24/10. I know that all of you have been working amazingly hard. Last Friday we had a great call with Karol Ward, the author of Worried Sick. The bottom line message? You will be more effective in your role if you are healthy, in all aspects of your life. Worry can take a toll on the body as well as the mind-from weight gain and hair loss to nausea, excessive worrying can upset the natural balance of a person's body, leaving them with a weakened immune system and susceptible to illness. Karol Ward is the author of Worried Sick. She is also a licensed psychotherapist. Don't miss this one.
