Grab your tastiest sandwich and try not to spoil Twin Peaks as we return to Deep Space 9 with an all-DS9 extravaganza. We're talking about the opening three-parter of season two of Deep Space Nine which, unlike the Augment three-parter of Enterprise we covered (Episode Title- We Have Wrath of Khan at Home), we're discussing and placing on the Big List as one single entry and not three seperate ones. Watch as in ‘The Homecoming,' Kira goes off to rescue Bajor's greatest resistance fighter and gets no end of grief for it, then we see that Odo has an actual friend while Kira has one of those awkward naked dreams while uncovering Bajoran nationalists in ‘The Circle' and then the simmering Bajoran nonsence ends up in some Die Hard antics on the Station as our heroes must endure ‘The Siege' where this should hopefully wrap up. No Vedek Winn's were harmed during the making of these episodes for which we are deeply sorry.EPISODES DISCUSSED: ‘The Homecoming' (11:25), ‘The Circle' (35:11) and ‘The Siege' (56:11)This used to be a TNG episode, Bajoran nonsense, Twin Peaks references (some spoilers removed) the DS9 novel mentioned last episode, Odo pranking Quark, Miles prefers Sisko with no beard, the Return of Grappler Zorn and a digression into G.I.Joe, Frank Langella aka Skeletor, Sisko's better at the ‘We're with Starfleet, we don't lie' than Wesley, Odo has a friend-an actual friend (cue references to ‘The Inbetweeners', Vedek Winn would unapologetically tweet ‘Thoughts and Prayers', The Prime Directive is poorly written legislation, we do a Die-Hard, Bashir would have a pith helmet, Deep Space Nine still working out what it can do and it feels that the Bajor stuff falls by the wayside with much larger threats, Krim wants to be Sisko's big rival, this is all too neat in resolution.
“In the Hand of the Prophets” 30th-anniversary reflections When Keiko O'Brien decides to teach the children aboard DS9 about the Bajoran wormhole, she takes a scientific approach. Word soon reaches the planet and Vedek Winn is having none of it. The religious leader sees Federation influence and its secular teachings as a threat to her people's beliefs. Seeing a chance to exert influence on the station and advance her own standing in the upcoming selection of a new Kai, she hatches a plan to assassinate a fellow Vedek and turn the tide of opinion against the Federation. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 30th-anniversary retrospective that will take you through all of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one episode at a time. In this installment, we wrap up Season 1 as we discuss “In the Hands of the Prophets” and how the story bookends the pilot while setting the series on course for its destiny of richly intricate serialized storytelling. There's been a murder and nobody's on the case! O'Brien sort of is, but he's mostly looking for one of his tools. Matt fends off the reaction to his take on "Duet" in a super long hailbag, we hear from Maurice Hurley, and Andy wonders why Vedek Winn didn't pick someone who was a better shot.(Episode discussion finally starts around 1:33)
Kai elections are nigh! Kira's boy toy Bariel looks like he's about to win, before Vedek Winn comes in with some oppo research. Will Kira uncover a dark secret? Keith Varney & Mike Indeglio sit down to do a long-form review of Star Trek DS9. We talk about the episode's background, trivia, characters, storytelling and give out our episode rating in the AllamaEmmies! It's nerdy fun. *This is an audio-only feed of K&M's Video Podcast found here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLidGSKPjKhVLDXW-9SDCdmYZR7rvMCIfp Support K&M's Patron & get lots of bonus content here: https://www.patreon.com/KandM
Matthew (he/him) and Jo (they/them) compare and contrast Kira's very 90's goodbye on DS9 with various goodbyes on TNG/Voyager that also feel very 90's and Star Trek Discovery that feel very 2020's, they reference The Godfather for likely the 1000th time on this pod and talk about the match made in hell that is Vedek Winn and Minister Jaro. Also they spend a little extra time talking about the neoliberal concept of “your coworkers are your family” prevalent in all Star Trek shows. Matthew asks what's up with Jo's fake adopted New York accent and Jo continues speculating wildly about characters sexualities and in this episode they focus on Kira. As always, be prepared that spoilers may be lurking around every corner just like Garak on Empok Nor. 3.
Wissenschaft trifft Glaube trifft Politik. In Deutschland: Blasphemie, ausgestrahlt am 29. Mai 1994.
A mysterious religious figure appears in Keiko O'Brien's classroom. She accuses Keiko of opening a path to blasphemy. Vedek Winn's first appearance is explosive. What to expect from episode 19: In the Hands of the Prophets? Episode Briefi…

She accuses Bareil of being a collaborator and Kira is on the hunt for the truth. The trouble is, Bareil isn't being much help and he keeps opening the migraine trigger box and getting cryptic messages. Is he really a collaborator or he is covering for someone else? Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Siege Hello everyone! Welcome to Season 2 episode 3: The Siege! This is the action-packed finale of the 3-parter that opened season 2. We continue on with our high-powered guest stars of Louise Fletcher, Frank Langella and Richard Beymer though only 2 of them are coming out of this episode alive! And we finally see some teamwork both on the station and on an away mission and it's quite a ride! The Siege on the station Steven Weber, from Wings fame, leads the f-troop in an invasion of DS9. Sisko tries to hold down the fort until Kira and Dax deliver the Cardassian-involvement evidence to the chamber of ministers down on Bajor. So while Sisko is keeping everyone alive on the station (despite the best efforts of Colonel Wings), Kira and Dax are dodging attacks in a sub-impulse bucket of bolts! So much action! The Hair Just one more thing...we may mention the hair in this episode a few times. What's this rebinge thing? It's a re-watch of a thing you've already seen but love to watch and talk about. We go deep with every episode, walking you through every scene and analyzing all of the characters and story lines. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Circle Hello everyone! It's time for Season 2 episode 2: The Circle! This is the second episode in a 3-parter and we are digging it so far. We've got all of our high-powered guest stars here in Louise Fletcher, Frank Langella and Richard Beymer. Plus we've got migraine triggers, naked prophecies, the axis of evil and great bangs. Oh yeah and we also debate the greatest scene (so far) of DS9. Kim says yes. James says no. Tune in to find out which scene it is. Just who is running The Circle? Minister Jaro, the power behind The Circle, reveals his nefarious plans in this episode and everything is coming together for him. He's got his scary ally in the Sydney Opera House-sporting Evil Vedek Winn and he's got a stockpile of weapons. Odo is searching for the source of the weapons, everyone is sad Kira is leaving and Kira is searching for the meaning of her naked migraine vision. What's this rebinge thing? Rebinging Star Trek DS9: The Homecoming We are back! And it's time for Season 2 episode 1: The Homecoming! We finished season 1 on a high note with 3 good episodes in a row; so how does season 1 start? Well it starts with the first of a 3-parter and some high-octane guest stars. We meet Minister Jaro played by Tony award winning actor Frank Langella and also Li Nalas played by Golden Globe nominated actor Richard Beymer. And we also get a name for the cafeteria: it's the replimat (this seems like a critical development). Just whose homecoming is it? In this episode, Kira and Miles are on a secret mission to rescue a Bajoran prisoner of war named Li Nalas. Li is revered as a war hero on Bajor and when Kira finds out he's still alive she feels he's the only one who can unite a fractured Bajor. Sisko agrees and this 3-part story is underway. Rebinging Star Trek DS9: In the Hands of the Prophets Welcome to S1E19 In the Hands of the Prophets. In this episode of DS9, we meet Vedek Winn, also known as Evil Winn on this podcast. She's come to the station to push church into Keiko's school and shout "blasphemy" at anyone who will listen. She is not nice and she causes lots of chaos. In the Hands of the Prophets This is a dense episode and we have a lot to talk about (you won't believe how much we edited OUT of this long episode)! Yes, there is the big topic of the separation of church and state when Evil Winn turns up to accuse Keiko of blasphemy! There is also a murder mystery going on in the background as Miles searches for a lost security tool that has disappeared into a pile of goo that may or may not have been a Starfleet ensign that we've never heard of before. We meet Neela, a misguided zealot who also is a good engineer and Vedek Barile who casts a very dull shadow next to Louise Fletcher's frightening portrayal of Evil Winn. What's this rebinge thing? In the finale of DS9 Season 1, a Bajoran spiritual leader with lofty political aspirations arrives to shake things up on the station. Matt and Briar compare the issues Vedek Winn brings up to real-world conflicts between faith and secularism to point out what works, and what could have used a little extra time in the writing room. Thanks for listening this far! Before we start on our season 2, we have our Q&A/Retrospective to do. Listeners have a last-minute chance to send us questions and comments through our email and social media.
The time has come for Bajor to name a new Kai. Bareil looks like a shoe-in, though past ghosts may stand in his way. Drunk Space Nine - An inebriated Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
We can't even remember what this episode was about we were so drunk but maybe you will. I'm joined once again by my good Samaritan shrink, Dr. Fraser Taint. We talk about another episode of the best show on the planet, Deep Space Nine, in which we find Kira almost sex assasinating Vedek Winn and Vedek boreil... We have a new Kai too, celebrate good times! Come on.
Vedek Bareil has been accused of being a Cardassian collaborator during the Bajoran Occupation. Kira seeks out the truth about her lover. With the election for the next Kai fast approaching, will Kira be able to fend of Vedek Winn until she can find evidence to clear Bareil? To wrap up season one, DS9 looks all the way back to Emissary! After the Bajoran religious leader Vedek Winn discovers that Keiko O'Brien is teaching secular values to her students, the entire Federation-Bajoran relationship looks like it may crumble. Commander Sisko is hesitant to push his values on anyone, but he may need to take a stand before people end up dead. In the Hands of the Prophets finishes the first season of DS9 and moves us into the second season with an examination of the dark side of the Bajoran religious movement. Clay joins me to discuss meeting new characters, O'Brien's temper, and the confused ethics of Roddenberry's universe. Are you looking for older episodes? The guys at LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST wrap up their coverage of Season One with the episode "In the Hands of the Prophets". Political and religious tensions heat up on the station as Vedek Winn, played perfectly by the amazing Louise Fletcher, visits DS9 to make sure that Bajoran philosophy is being taught in Keiko O'Brien's school. Of course, it's not being taught to the extent the wannabe Kai desires, so a religious split between the Bajorans and the Federation is poised to break out, threatening all that Sisko and company have worked for over the past year. It's our first real look at the devious machinations that will be a centerpiece of the series' run and a great ending to the one of the best first seasons of Star Trek since the Original Series. Plus, Paul, Andy, and Shawn discuss the season as a whole and give their high and low points (ALAMARAINE!!!). Science vs Religion on Bajor. Deep Space Nine did an excellent job of balancing two very different—yet intertwined—ways of viewing the world. People often come down on the extreme sides of world views based on either religion or science. While the two certainly seem diametrically opposed on the surface, there are similarities. In this episode of The Orb, hosts Christopher Jones and Matthew Rushing use the season one finale “In the Hands of the Prophets” as the basis for a discussion of science, religion, and the need for moderate views and understanding. We explore the faceoff between Keiko O'Brien and Vedek Winn, Bareil's tempering hand, and the unlikely voice of reason: a Starfleet commander named Benjamin Sisko.
