The podcast is continuing with our obscure 70s features. We had a good time with Children Shouldn't Play with Dead Things last time we recorded. We've already covered Black Christmas and Deranged by the same film makers but there's another film from 1974, directed by Bob Clark and written by Alan Ormsby that is probably their least known work. With makeup effects by Tom Savini! We hope you enjoy our Horror 101 treatment of Dead of Night, AKA Deathdream.Show Highlights:01:00 Prelude to Terror04:30 Choosing tonight's film...10:30 Florida or Vietnam?12:20 The Worst News...16:00 Coming Home...19:40 Something is Different...22:20 The Brutal End of Butch28:00 Fatal Physical...32:05 Undead Double Date...40:30 Face me, Andy...42:45 Fleeing to Resting Place...46:15 Anti-War Sentiments...49:20 Scoring the Film...58:05 Conclusion! Last July, space telescopes recorded an event that sounds like the plot of a “B” horror movie: Zombie Versus Vampire. Spoiler alert: the vampire won. It drained away the zombie’s life’s blood – or make that its after-life’s blood. The encounter took place in a galaxy billions of light-years from Earth. Space telescopes detected a sudden flare-up in X-rays from the galaxy’s outskirts. The region also produced several short outbursts of gamma rays, the most powerful form of energy. At their peak, each burst produced as much energy every second as the Sun will emit in a billion years. Analysis revealed a possible explanation: a medium-sized black hole devoured a white dwarf – the “corpse” of a Sun-like star. Astronomers have seen similar encounters before. But most of them involved stars that were in the prime of life, so the stars were big. A white dwarf is only about as big as Earth, which is just one percent the Sun’s diameter. So a white dwarf is compact and extremely dense. Its surface gravity is strong, so it’s not easily disrupted. In this case, though, the white dwarf buzzed a black hole about 75,000 times the mass of the Sun. The black hole’s gravity ripped apart the white dwarf in one big bite. Debris swirled around the black hole. Magnetic fields fired some of it into space at almost the speed of light, creating bursts of gamma rays. The whole thing was over in a flash – as the vampire sucked the zombie dry. Script by Damond Benningfield
Last time on the Bestow Curse podcast, our heroes reclaimed a piece for Vek's grandfather's soul and found his armor in the halls of Castle Scarwall. They continued deeper into its labyrinthine corridors and after a short encounter with minotaur skeletons are ready to continue further. What awaits them deeper within? And when will they encounter Cazovan's first lieutenant? The cursed campaign continues now! The Explosive Ghoul is identical in nearly every-eth manner to their regular cousins but with several notable exceptions: Abyssal energies: what has been identified to power the ghouls has been “supercharged” extensively to such a point that the Explosive Ghoul gains its name and upon destruction will combust and release said energies at high degree and far reach. This can clearly-eth be seen-eth on thine Explosive Ghoul in its somewhat bloated-eth stomach and through its-eth eyes-eth which will instead of being white show through to the planes abyssal (red as it is speculated that the colours of thine abyss are on the average). Thy-eth savvy hunter should-eth k-note that thine Explosive Ghoul should be seen to be-eth smarter than thy average bear (or ghoul) and shall not indeed fall for the same tricks as thine non-explosive cousin. When thine Explosive Ghoul is slain one should be well away lest they become caught in the fiery (and venomous (here-eth venom shall refer-eth to the effect of creating more-eth ghouls (here-eth ghouls shall mean explosive ghouls) on thy savvy (or should I say unsavvy!) death) as the normal ghoul is (which-eth is to speak that the conflagration is neither fiery nor venomous but rather necrotic)) conflagration. Unfortunately, dear reader and savvy hunter I must confess that I was lying to you at the beginning of this here entry as the Explosive Ghoul is not terribly similar to thine regular ghoul. As thine Explosive Ghoul also should be known to be rather tougher than its counterpart and also know that it can belch the very fires (poisonous) of the abyss at thy savvy hunter which have all the treacherous-ies of its venomous attacks. Aside from these incorrections though I was not lying but rather telling the truth as the Explosive Ghoul does have all the same weaknesses and strengths besides! If you're still wanting to pledge for the Jarren's Outpost Board Game you can right here! An April Fool's twist kicks things off as Jim and Dar challenge listeners to separate fact from fiction, but not everything is as obvious as it seems. A shocking medical “miracle,” a bizarre animal achievement, and a creepy digital haunting will have you second-guessing what's real. Then, the show pivots into real paranormal news with unsettling astronaut incidents, missing scientists tied to sensitive research, and growing whispers about what's really out there. Even mainstream voices are starting to question the narrative and their answers may surprise you. And just when you think it can't get any weirder… a historical “meat shower” makes a very messy comeback. All this and more! Thank you for watching/listening! Tonight on Phantoms & Monsters Radio, we explore the ancient ghoul tradition of the Middle East and compare it to a disturbing series of modern witness reports involving pale humanoids, cemetery crawlers, battlefield scavengers, mountain screams, and deceptive entities that seem to imitate human behavior. From Iraqi Kurdistan and Kuwait to Illinois, Montana, and Gettysburg, these accounts reveal a striking continuity between Islamic folklore and contemporary high strangeness. In this presentation, I examine how classic ghoul traits, graveyard association, corpse predation, mimicry, liminal settings, caves, ruins, and psychological aftermath, continue to surface in modern encounters. Whether these reports reflect folklore carried forward, misunderstood cryptids, ultraterrestrial manifestations, or something else entirely, the similarities are too strong to ignore. Please like, subscribe, share your thoughts in the comments, and let me know if you have had a similar experience. If you have experienced an unexplained encounter or sighting, visit Phantoms and Monsters https://phantomsandmonsters.com to submit & share your story.

Send a textA nuked world shouldn't feel this alive. We dive headfirst into Fallout Season 2 and unpack how it turns deep-cut lore into gripping television without leaving newcomers behind. From NCR and Caesar's Legion to the fractured Brotherhood of Steel and Mr. House's clockwork vision, we trace the power plays that make New Vegas more than a backdrop—it's a living argument about who gets to decide the future. What hooked us most is the character engine driving all that spectacle. Lucy walks out of the vault with rules and runs into moral weather she can't predict. The Ghoul carries a memory of the old world and the stamina to outlast the new one, shaping the story with hard-earned patience instead of easy violence. Hank's “minimize” project reframes villainy as research, and one button press turns memory into a weapon. It's a season obsessed with identity: who you are without your past, what love looks like when trust is gone, and how choice survives after the world ends.If you've played the games, you'll feel the satisfaction: deathclaws that terrify in numbers, super sledges and power armor that hit like freight trains, a Ron Perlman-voiced super mutant, and small details like sugar bombs and chems that actually matter. But the real trick is how the show uses those pieces to move the plot, not just wink at fans. We also wrestle with big adaptation questions—why this succeeds where Halo stumbled—and map what Colorado might bring next, from cryptids to consequences.Hit play to join us in the wasteland. If this breakdown sparks your brain, share it with a friend, subscribe for more deep dives, and drop a five star juicy review so other wanderers can find the show. A guerra… a guerra nunca muda.
Eric and Maddy dive into the post-apocalyptic world of Amazon's Fallout, where morality, justice, and hope are put to the ultimate test! Pack your raincoat and your flannel, we're heading to Grays Harbor in Washington, the salty gateway to the Pacific and the misty doorstep of the Olympic Peninsula. The most notable town on Grays Harbor is Aberdeen, hometown of Kurt Cobain. The town leans into its legacy with a welcome sign that reads “Come As You Are,” a nod to the iconic Nirvana anthem. Nearby, a humble highway sign became rock folklore and was eventually relocated due to its popularity with fans. But Grays Harbor is more than grunge nostalgia. The stately Polson Museum, a 1924 riverfront mansion built by the Polson Logging Company family, houses antiques and logging relics that some visitors swear carry more than just dust. The museum gift shop shelves true crime tales like Deep in the Woods about the 1935 kidnapping of George Weyerhaeuser, and The Port of Missing Men, which recounts the chilling legend of sailor turned union man Billy Gohl.Dubbed the “Ghoul of Grays Harbor,” Billy Gohl was accused of murdering dozens of sailors in the early 1900s, allegedly stealing their valuables and dumping their bodies into the harbor. Convicted of only two murders, he died in prison, but debate still churns like gray water. Was he a serial killer responsible for up to 100 deaths, or a convenient scapegoat for powerful men threatened by his labor activism? His legend lingers at his namesake — Billy's Bar & Grill. The harbor's ghostly roll call does not end on land. The Lady Washington, a 1989 replica of the first American vessel to make landfall in the Pacific Northwest in 1788 under Captain Robert Gray, sails as a floating tribute to maritime history. Many believe old sea spirits are drawn out wherever the ship sails into port!Visit our website! Find us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Patreon, & more!
