This week: a sister-cast episode to a series we have called the Inbetweeners where we on the bands straddling the 80s and 90s in rock n' punk n' metal. This is more specific to metal in the 90s after feeling the impact of the overwhelming shifting of sounds during the decade. Metal became a dirty word by the mid-90s as grunge and alternative took over the rock world, but a new movement in the metal genre blended all of these influences with the heavy. Thus, we give you - 90s Alternative Metal! What's this InObscuria thing? Our podcast exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover mostly bands that have been forgotten including some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the heavy metal 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and metal bands that began during this time put it all in an industrial-strength metal blender. Hope ya dig! Songs this week include:Quicksand – “Thorn In My Side” from Manic Compression (1995)Fragile Porcelain Mice – “Brown Nickel” from Frostbiddin (1996)Therapy? – “Nasuea” from Nurse (1992)Corrosion Of Conformity – “Clean My Wounds” from Deliverance (1994)Prong – “Unconditional” from Prove You Wrong (1991)Fight – “I Am Alive” from A Small Deadly Space (1995)Life Of Agony – “This Time” from River Runs Red (1993)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
This is our 33rd episode, the fourteenth of our second season, and joining us to tell us his story is our first guest from Asia, English teacher Alan Gordon, who attended Carmel College from 1974 to ‘81. Alan grew up in North West London, where his family had moved from Edinburgh. After Carmel, he studied History and Politics at Queen Mary, and subsequently worked in finance. Twenty-five years ago, he moved to Osaka, where he teaches intensive pre-departure English to Japanese executives. He and his Balinese Hindu wife Ari have had two children. Hear Alan talk about his father's work with Sean Connery; asking during his interview where in the school the playground was; why he felt sorry for the boy whose parents drove a Jaguar; The Inbetweeners' Carmel connection; Vera Rosen's Florence Nightingale moment; tackling Rabbi Rosen's Volvo (in his driveway) and his ankle (on the football pitch); benching in the style of Elvis; and his proudest Carmel moment, at Arsenal. Thank you, Alan Gordon, for turning us again to Carmel days! Dedication: at Alan's request, this episode is dedicated to the memory of the late Sonia Sabel, a former French teacher and Girls' Housemistress at Carmel, who - in Alan's words - nourished him “with the milk of human kindness” and gave him and many others “a home from home”. For being there for him time and time again, and teaching him how to love life's smallest blessings, she resides deep in his heart forever. Mrs. Sabel was born as Sonia Shine around 1926 and (predeceased by her husband and eldest son, Jimmy), passed away in the 1990s. Personal mentions in this episode: Jeremy Rosen (Headmaster) Trevor Bolton (Housemaster) Mary Evans (Mathematics) Ron Evans (Mathematics) Mr. Rowland (Mathematics) Sonia Sabel (French) Joel Silver (Computer Studies & Ridgeway Housemaster) Baruch Epstein (Jewish Studies) Joshua Gabay (French & Junior School Headmaster) Vera Rosen (Headmaster's wife) Rabbi Eric Hoffman (Jewish Studies) Alistair Falk (English) Myra Rabie Joe Friedman Alan Liebert Jonny Weinberg Aron Landy Ruth Hoffman Aliza Reger Mark Granat Eli Ehrman Simon Sassoon Jamie Renton Simon C Margolis Zevi Crystal Ben Bridger Stefan Holt David Abraham Jimmy Sabel Colin Sabel Kenneth Sabel Lawrence Cass Joe Breckner Mark Klein Eric Bernstein Gideon Moore David Swanwick Jack Mizel David Da Costa Robert Music Gary Davis Gary Wilson Daniel Solomon Simon Myerson Nicholas Myerson Stephen Corrick Graham Dullop Suzie Greene Mark Givert Richard Klevan Nassimah Reynolds Daniel Reynolds David Reynolds Isaac Cohen Steven Ornstein Michael Hall Feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you liked about this episode, and rate us on your favorite podcast platform

From her breakout role as Charlotte in The Inbetweeners and gracing the covers of lads' mags, Emily Atack always knew she'd be famous but the level of attention that came with it wasn't quite what she'd bargained for, especially when that attention has gotten nasty.Emily and I have been friends for some time but this is the first time I've seen her since becoming a mum so it was fantastic having the chance to chat to her about her career and how having a child has changed her world view. We chatted about her experience with the press and the toxic language we use around weight and women in the public eye. We also discussed her advocacy around the changing the laws of sexual consent and how she envisions a future where her son grows up in a world that respects and values women.A conversation with Emily will always be filled with laughter, but she also articulates so well the experience of being a woman in the public eye. Our conversation left me feeling just how much more men need to introspect—and ultimately step up.If you enjoyed this episode, please click follow - we have so many great guests like this one, you won't want to miss out!You can also follow us on Instagram and Tiktok @greatcompanypodcast or email us at greatcompany@jampotproductions.co.ukIf you'd like to see Emily in her new show, Rivals, head to Disney+--THE CREDITSExec Producer: Jemima RathboneAssistant Producer: Gurlina HeerVideo: Jake JiSocial Media: Laura CoughlanGreat Company is an original podcast from JamPot Hosted on Acast. Inbetweeners are the animators who draw the pages in between the lead animators' key frames. The in between doesn't get a lot of attention, but it is essential to move the animation forward. The same concept applies to the “in between era” that connects Walt Disney's passing to the Disney Renaissance. A tumultuous time period which often only gets a few chapters in history and is usually known only for mediocre box-office hits, now has its own book. Courtney and Emily welcome storyboard artist, screenwriter, director, and author, Stephen Anderson, to talk about that period that took us from the Walt Disney era to the Disney Renaissance in his book, “Disney In-Between: The Lost Years 1966-1986.” Anderson's book gives you an in depth history of lessons animators, writers, directors, and studio executives learned while navigating how to run the Disney studio and Disney brand without Walt. The brains behind Flight of the Conchords and The Inbetweeners (and Jojo Rabbit) have taken on our childhoods and created a television adaptation of Terry Gilliam's legendary film Time Bandits, but have they succeeded in pulling off the impossible and doing a good job? Presented by J.R. Southall, with Simon Brett
“The Inbetweeners” is a British sitcom that aired from 2008 to 2010 on E4. The show follows the misadventures of four suburban teenagers at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive School. The series is known for its humorous take on the awkwardness of adolescence, focusing on themes like social acceptance, and the boys' often unsuccessful attempts at romance. Despite its initial lukewarm reception, “The Inbetweeners” has become a classic, celebrated for its relatable and cringe-worthy humor. The show was successful enough to spawn two movies and a very short lived American adaptation. Will the S1E1 boys connect with this show and think back to times when they were growing up in school together? Find out as they deep dive the The Inbetweeners pilot episode, "First Day". Starring: Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, Joe Thomas, Greg Davies, Emily Head, Belinda Stewart-Wilson, Robin Weaver, Alex Macqueen, & Henry Lloyd-Hughes www.S1E1POD.com MERCH Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1Pod

This week we pay homage to bands straddled the world of the 80s hard n' heavy and the 90s alternative n' grunge. These were bands that were somewhat outside of the status quo specifically in the hard rock and metal world that seemed to be playing music that was more genre and categorization-defying. Thus we created our own non-genre called; The Inbetweeners! What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we cover all 3 categories and even some bands that we played early on in the podcast. The transition from the hard rockin' 80s to the punk-edged alternative of the 90s was a time like no other, and some bands simply got caught in the middle. Go and check out these songs and the albums that they come from and enjoy some music from The Inbetweeners! Songs this week include:Naked Sun – “Psycho-Activate” from Naked Sun (1991)Funhouse – “Y.R.S.” from Generation Generator (1990)No Walls – “Naive” from No Wall (1992)Animal Bag – “Missing Out” from Animal Bag (1992)Red Sea – “Blood” from Blood (1994)The Hatters – “Sacrifice” from The Madcap Adventures Of The Avocado Overlord (1994)Loudhouse – “Faith Farm” from For Crying Out Loud (1991)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Listener Beware: You are about to enter the mind of a co-host of this show. Some know him as the enigmatic, flame-throwing, jack of all trades: Robert Harrison. This year he has earned the title of “Captain Content”, and thus you will be thrust into the mind of a… Let's just say it will titillate some and completely confuse others. This is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth… until a week later when he forgot the bands and songs that he shared with us. Welcome to bands Robert found and then lost…What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Sean and Satsu from Chatsunami bring you a review that literally nobody wants! Saltburn (2023). Discussion Points: -Satsu feels defeated. -The reason Sean finally decided to watch the film. -The inconsistent accent. -Why this film reminded Sean, of Johnny English (2003) and Will from The Inbetweeners. -Satsu and Sean struggle to understand the point of the film. -The failed plot twist. -Sean didn't buy the obsession. -The lack of depth in the film. -The good performances of the cast. -The lack of baths in Saltburn House. Raised Questions: -Is Sean the positive one? -Does this film explain the state of modern film making? -If it wasn't for the minging bits, would anyone be talking about this? -Why would they choose Scouse? -Are the characters like wafer thin ham? -Who reads the reading list at uni? -Is this just a raunchy version of Midsomer Murders? -Do other people's positive opinions make Sean more negative? Random Recommendations: -The Boy Next Door (2015). -Parasite (2019). -The Talented Mr Ripley (1999). -The Little Vampire (2000). -The Riot Club (2014)-not the posh boys. -Cherrybomb (2009), starring Rupert Grint.
