Trigger warning: Vickie and I discuss abuse cycles and trauma bonds in this podcast episode, but there is so much insight and advice that I recommend a listen. If you can't listen to this episode, share it with a safe friend and allow them to share their relative insights with you. We all go through things, some more than others, but it is not to say that trauma of any kind is easier in any way. But I believe we can use those situations to teach and inspire others from them. We touch on pain points such as people-pleasing, defining emotions, creating boundaries, and gaslighting. Our lives have a purpose and I believe that it is to LIVE LEARN and TEACH. Vickie Lynn is a freedom fighter and overcomer, rising out of the ashes from 25 years of narcissistic abuse. Through her company, the Survivor Center, she's a faith-based, high conflict co-parenting and divorce coach reaching back into the fire to help other single mommas sharing custody with an abuser. Vickie empowers women to find their voice, create strong boundaries and empower their children to do the same despite ongoing post-separation abuse. Her clients gain confidence, clarity, and tap into their own power to end abuse in their lineage and change the course of their legacy forever! Vickie Lynn is a freedom fighter and overcomer, rising out of the ashes from 25 years of narcissistic abuse. She's a faith-based, high conflict co-parenting and divorce coach reaching back into the fire to help other single mommas sharing custody with their narcissistic / abusive ex. For any of you leaving a narcissistic relationship behind and who have kids, you know that the feeling of being lost or diminished doesn't end when the relationship does. The kids are always a tie back to the abuse you've endured. Vickie helps women to find their voice, create strong boundaries, and empower their children to do the same despite ongoing post-separation abuse. Her clients gain confidence, clarity, and tap into their own power to end abuse in their lineage and change the course of their lives! Vickie Lynn will help you reclaim who you once were and help you learn how to respond to all the illogical and absurd crap that your ex throws your way. It isn't easy, but it is so worth being able to redeem some of the power you lost and each small step creates momentum. In this episode, we discuss: Leaving the relationship with an abusive ex is one monumental foot forward, but it is really just ther start of a longer journey when kids are involved Sometimes, we have to look inward and evaluate what we can control. Start with setting small boundaries, which breeds greater confidence. Once you've reclaimed one small piece of power back, you start from there the next time. Be honest with your children about the ex's behavior and authentic to yourself. Model open communication and do what is right for your child at the right moment. Don't feel like you have to always shield them from the truth. Be a safe place for yourself and kids Journal to alleviate past anger and find new passions. Try new things. We'd love to hear of your triumph's. Take a moment this week to either think about or establish a purposeful boundary for yourself and let us know what steps you've been able to take to lean into your authentic self. For this episode I spoke to sisters Deni and Dusty, who are the nieces of Vickie Lynn Brekke who was murdered in 1978. She was only 15. Vickie died over four decades ago and her family still has no answers. On May 7, 1978, Vickie Brekke, 15, left her Las Vegas home to visit her best friend as she often did. However, Vickie never made it to the friend’s house. The next day (May 8th) Vickie’s body was found in the desert. Someone had strangled her. In this interview, Deni and Dusty said their mother, who was Vickie’s sister spent much of her life trying to figure out who killed her sister. She has since passed without ever knowing who killed Vickie. The mystery of who killed Vickie Brekke has now been handed off to her two nieces Deni and Dusty who won’t rest until they find out who killed their Aunt Vickie. These sisters are determined to get answers. They believe their aunt was killed by someone she knew. Can you help them find out what happened to their aunt? It's been four decades since Vickie Brekke was murdered. If you have any information about this cold case, please contact the Las Vegas Police Department at (702)828-3521 or call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555. You can also email the police at homicide@lvmpd.com. And if you would like to find out more information about Vickie Brekke, please visit the Facebook page titled Who killed Vickie Lynn Brekke?
