“So many things in my past were painful because I stayed on too long.” How do you know when it's time to say goodbye to something, no matter how good it may seem or how hard it is to leave? For today's guest, Nicole Antoinette, staying too long created a pattern of “scorched earth change,” where dramatic moves became the only way out. In this conversation, we discuss where she thinks the creator economy is heading, why she shut down her successful Patreon, and how she makes tough decisions about what to leave behind: whether it's a romantic relationship, a job, a friendship, alcohol, or one of her biggest income streams. More About Nicole: Nicole Antoinette is a writer, long-distance hiker, and former indoor kid who never imagined she'd wind up spending months of each year pooping in the woods. In 2017, stuck in a loop of codependency and people-pleasing, Nicole set off to find her self-belief and inner resilience by doing something she did not for one second believe she could actually do. The results are two adventure memoirs, How To Be Alone: An 800-mile hike on the Arizona Trail, and What We Owe to Ourselves, and a weekly newsletter on Substack called Wild Letters.

In this compelling episode of the Created To Thrive Podcast, my good friend, Frannie Foltz, founder of Shine with Frannie joins me and we confront some of what tries to hold us back from pursuing our passion and purpose, so we can live fulfilled in all that God has planned for us.  We discuss the concept of "pivoting" — the art of making a significant change in your personal life or vocation, and how it can be a catalyst for personal and professional growth.   Frannie transparently shares some personal stories and key insights that will help you overcome the various fears and limitations that try to keep you stuck.    So whether you are are making personal life changes, contemplating a passion project, or a making professional shift, this episode offers actionable advice for overcoming the fears and hindrances that come with making transformative decisions.    Here are the 3 key takeaways from this episode:   1️⃣ Take Action: Frannie emphasizes the importance of taking action in order to overcome fear. Inactivity only perpetuates the problem, so it's crucial to identify where you're stuck and start taking small steps towards improvement. Remember, faith requires action! 2️⃣ Recognize Your Worth: Frannie highlights the significance of recognizing your worth and the gifts that God has placed within you. By aligning your thoughts and actions with God's will, you can believe in yourself and confidently pursue your goals and dreams. 3️⃣ Embrace Change: Frannie shares her personal experiences of pivoting and transitioning into something different. Sometimes, we need to let go of what's holding us back and make room for positive change and growth. Don't be afraid to embrace change and pursue your true calling!   We want to help you overcome fear, unlock the courage you need to trust God, have wisdom to make decisions, and step into your God-given purpose to fulfill your dreams.   **Three other episodes with Frannie to check out: Ep. 49  "Tips To Reset and Refocus For Growth with Frannie Foltz" 28 | Eliminating Weight: A Soul & Body Connection To Living in Whole Health 19| Thriving in Faith, Fitness and Fun   Connect with Frannie: To learn more from Frannie: Direct Message her with the word: THRIVE to hear more about the health product mentioned RETREAT to hear more about her Florida retreat in October Instagram or Facebook: @shinewithfrannie  Podcast: Shine With Frannie Show www.shinewithfrannie.com   Connect more with Lori:  IG or FB: @lorikaysnyder *FREE Bible Training: How To Live In God's Best For You! “You have to live spherically—in many directions. Never lose your childish enthusiasm—and things will come your way.” —Federico Fellini This week's delightful guest, Madeleine Dore, reminded me of this wonderful quote while reading her book, one that I know you will love as much as I did: I Didn't Do The Thing Today: Letting Go of Productivity Guilt. We talk about widening the measure and meaning of a day beyond our to-do lists, discovering the call of a new topic, shaping a big idea “blob of clay,” how she collects all the great quotes and stories for her book, why she sees herself as more of a guinea pig than an expert (and freelancer valuing independence even more than business owner), and how she decides when to sunset a project, rather than “maintaining something at all costs.” This crossover episode originally aired on the Free Time podcast on April 25, 2023. More About Madeleine: Madeleine Dore is a writer and interviewer exploring how we can broaden the definition of a day well spent. As a labor of love, Madeleine spent over five years asking creative thinkers how they navigate their days on her popular blog Extraordinary Routines and podcast Routines & Ruts. The lessons culminated in her first book, I Didn't Do The Thing Today: Letting Go of Productivity Guilt. Madeleine continues to write, speak and ask questions—but mostly tries to hold things lightly.

Welcome to the Created To Thrive Podcast, where we believe that even in the midst of hardship, there is hope and healing for a brighter tomorrow.   The loss of a child is one of the worst losses that humans can experience. Whether a child is lost in the womb, at birth, or after a few years of life, the crushing grief changes a family forever. How do you move forward? How do you begin to cope with all that you're feeling?    In today's episode, we have a very special guest joining us - Candy McVicar, to help us work through this type of grief. Candy is a grief support expert who has worked extensively with families who have experienced the heartbreaking loss of a child. In this episode, we delve into the complexities of grieving the loss of a child, as Candy shares her own personal journey and provides valuable insights and advice to those who may be going through a similar experience. We explore the differences in grieving styles between men and women, the importance of seeking support, and practical strategies for navigating the grief journey.    Candy also shared her experiences in seeking support and finding little to no help. In response, she channeled her pain into something positive and founded the Missing Grace foundation, which supports individuals grieving the loss of a loved one. Through this organization, she has created avenues for healing, education, and commemoration, providing support groups and even Grace care packages to those who need it most.   In addition, Candy spoke about her book, which she wrote in collaboration with Dr. Gary Chapman, author of the Five Love Languages. This book explores how to apply the concept of love languages within the context of grief, providing insights and tools for navigating the emotional journey.   Join us as we gain deeper understanding and hope in the face of unimaginable loss.   Candy McVicar is an author, inspirational speaker, and devoted advocate for families who are grieving a baby or child. After experiencing the stillbirth of her daughter Grace, she founded and became executive director of Missing GRACE Foundation, whose mission is to provide support, resources, and education for families and professional care providers when there is loss of a baby, infertility, or adoption challenges. Candy has been a featured guest on Fox News, Focus on the Family and Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman. She lives in South Carolina with her husband and their two daughters. Pivot Podcast with Jenny Blake

At 24 years old, Eric Zimmer was homeless, addicted to heroin, and facing jail time. In the decades since, he has found a way to recover from addiction and build a life worth living for himself, while coaching others through his programs and award-winning podcast The One You Feed, based on an old parable about two wolves at battle within us (a story I also share in Pivot). We had the great pleasure of recording in person—while meeting for the first time! This was extra special because of how much Eric generously shares about his pivots through addiction and recovery, the deeper needs beneath destructive coping habits, how challenging addiction can be on friends and family, and what the literature often gets wrong about codependency. More About Eric: For the past 20 years, Eric Zimmer has worked as a behavior coach. He's also a Certified Interfaith Spiritual Director, podcaster, and writer, who is endlessly inspired by the quest for a greater understanding of how our minds work and how to intellectually create the lives we want to live. We talk about widening the measure and meaning of a day beyond our to-do lists, discovering the call of a new topic, shaping a big idea “blob of clay,” how she collects all the great quotes and stories for her book, why she sees herself as more of a guinea pig than an expert (and freelancer valuing independence even more than business owner), and how she decides when to sunset a project, rather than “maintaining something at all costs.” More About Madeleine: Madeleine Dore is a writer and interviewer exploring how we can broaden the definition of a day well spent.

It's been programmed into us from older generations that life has to be all work, and little or no play until we're 65 and retired, and too old to do the things we wanted to when we were younger. We've been programmed to think that we have to choose one thing and one thing only, even if that thing makes us miserable! If we're miserable, we're supposed to push through it until we essentially can't anymore…and then we see our health declining and our emotional well being deteriorating, and we get sick mentally and physically. Well today, Jenny tells us that generational curse is breakable, and that it's OKAY to break through that curse. How do we love God with our heart, soul, mind and strength? (The greatest commandment) How are each of these areas different? What does it mean to be still and know God? (Psalm 46:10)   Often we focus on the intellectual part of our relationship with God, doing activities such as Bible reading, prayer, and attending church from the head rather than from the heart. There are many gifts within the gift of salvation. I want to help you discover and activate all that is available to you through Jesus' cross and resurrection.   1. We get a new Father. (John 1:12-13) 2. We get a new nature and identity change. (2 Corinthians 5:17)We undergo a radical internal change. Our old self has been crucified with Christ, and we have a brand-new self, which is created in righteousness and holiness. You have a new nature. Identity - We are created in His image. We have the spiritual DNA of God. 3. We get a new family. We are united with Christ and joined to the body of Christ. Not only do we have union with the triune God, but we are also united with every other believer. (Romans 12:5)   Here is some of what you have been given through salvation: A Heavenly Father who loves us unconditionally. Peace With God Union with Christ The mind of Christ The Name of Jesus The power of the Holy Spirit The gifts of the Holy Spirit The fruit of the Holy Spirit The full armor of God: The Belt of truth, Breastplate of righteousness, Shoes with the readiness of the Gospel of peace, Shield of faith, Helmet of salvation, Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. the better covenant made upon better promises,  the living Word of God,  the keys of the Kingdom,  the power of prayer,  the blood of Jesus,  and righteousness by faith. Inheritance *Declarations* Declare these truths to help remind you of what you have been given through salvation: I have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of His dear Son. I have been born again by the incorruptible seed of God's Word. I have been given all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of God and Jesus His Son. I am God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus. My spirit is alive to God and I have a new nature. I am strengthened with all might according to His glorious power.  I have the Greater One living within me and have authority over the devil.  The Spirit of Truth abides in me. He is my Helper, Counselor, Teacher, He shows me things to come and guides me into all truth. I hear God's voice and follow Him. I trust in the Lord with all my heart and will not lean on my own understanding.  In all my ways I acknowledge Him and He directs my path. I am not wise in my own eyes. Jesus is made unto me wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. I am filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. The announcement of the birth of Jesus is such an encouraging message of great joy, hope, love and peace.  I want to tie in the birth of Jesus with His resurrection, and what we have available today, in the New Covenant. Jesus is the best gift ever given. He is the Savior of the world. His name in the Hebrew, Yeshua means salvation.    John 3:16 promises, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."  When the Bible speaks of salvation as a gift from God, it emphasizes the fact that salvation is something given freely by Him rather than something we earn.  But the point of salvation is not so we won't perish, but it's to have eternal life. John 17:3 says, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” God wants to have a personal, intimate relationship with you! From Luke 2:10-11, 2:14 we find that Jesus offers us Salvation, which is a free gift that must be received. It is not earned.  By His grace, God has already done everything to provide salvation. Your part is simply to believe and receive. Ephesians 2:8-9 "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."    What is the good news: The Gospel of Peace with God. The angels were praising God and rejoicing that through Jesus, there was peace between God and mankind. This peace came through the blood sacrifice Jesus made on the cross.  Colossians 1:20 “and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.” -Jesus was rejected and beaten by men and bore our punishment so that we could be reconciled to God.  -Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.   Now God can justly love us. God isn't mad at you; all of His judgment against our sin was placed on Jesus.   This is the Gospel of peace. Jesus paid the punishment for sin in our place. He was the Suffering Servant who took our place. We now have a covenant of peace.    Jesus' obedience to do the Father's will and shed His blood for you, makes you worthy to receive. It's called a gift of righteousness- by faith through God's grace.   **Want to receive the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus Christ? You can accept it right now.  All you must do is "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" Romans 10:9.  Pray this now out loud: “Jesus, I confess that You are my Lord and Savior. I believe in my heart that you are the Son of God and He raised You from the dead. By faith in Your Word, I receive salvation now. Thank You for saving me!”   The very moment you commit your life to Jesus Christ, the truth of His Word instantly comes to pass in your spirit and a new way of thriving is available. All of the benefits of salvation are for you!   If you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, you are save.  Please contact me and let me know that you've prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior. It says that all of heaven celebrates when someone receives Jesus, and I want to celebrate with you as well.   email me: lori@loriksnyder.com IG: @lorikaysnyder  https://www.instagram.com/lorikaysnyder/ FB: @lorikaysnyder https://www.facebook.com/lorikaysnyder LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lorikaysnyder/ FREE Bible Training: How To Live In God's Best For You! ***Get you FREE Bible Training: How To Live In God's Best For You! LoriKsnyder.com/free-training/   Understand what God has made available to you through Jesus' obedience and finished work. Jesus is the Savior of the World, Prince of Peace, Immanuel.... Salvation means more than the forgiveness of our sins so we can go to heaven! Salvation includes deliverance, protection, prosperity, peace, healing and wholeness. It sums up all of the blessings bestowed by God on those who are in Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit!   Jesus' Salvation is for the whole person: spirit, soul and body. He has an entire benefits package for you in His finished work on the cross. It's time to believe and receive all He has paid for you.   Jesus is our salvation and has redeemed us. To redeem means to brings back to its original state, even if we have brought something on ourself. Redemption is both spiritual and physical.  Jesus' death, burial and resurrection redeemed mankind back to God's original plan of being in a close, personal relationship with Him. How you view yourself will impact how you view and love others. Too often, we can have a wrong view of who God is and we we are, which will affect how we relate to others.   This impacts how we fulfill the greatest Commandment. In Matthew 22:37-39 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' In John 13:34, Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”   My husband, Fred and I discuss the importance of receiving God's love and to know your identity in Christ, so you can love others well.   In order to love your neighbor as yourself, you need to love yourself. You need to see yourself the way the Lord see you, through His redemption. Jesus came to heal the broken hearted and set people free from bondage like guilt, shame and condemnation. Jesus wants us to take His yoke upon Him and experience His Light, Life and Love.   In having a deep, personal relationship with Jesus, and aligning our beliefs to Truth, we begin a process of being conformed into the image of Jesus Christ.    Spiritual maturity and emotional maturity are inseparable. We are to be self-aware, not self-condemning. The enemy is the voice of the accuser and there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Is it well with your soul?   Have you ever been taught HOW to process your strong emotions and experience health and wholeness?   3 John 2:1  Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.  The King James Version begins the verse with John saying ”Beloved, I wish above all things…”    Transformation is an inside out process. Often we can focus on disciplining ourselves to look at our thoughts and renewing our mind, but often have an intellectual approach. (Romans 12:2)  Renewing our minds is not just memorizing Scripture, and taking our thoughts captive. We must process our emotional needs and limiting beliefs, or we can become stuck, unable to move forward into all that God has purposed for us.   In this episode, my husband, Fred and I discuss the importance of a thriving soul, where we examine our emotions, become self-aware, then connect with God to experience healing and wholeness.   Key Scriptures: Ecclesiastes 3:4 “a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,”  Luke 1:29-47 (Mary's response) John 2:1-12 (First miracle of Jesus) Philippians 4:6-7   I want to help you live at a higher level where your soul (mind, will emotions, imagination) thrives, so you can experience a prosperous life.   Episodes mentioned that will help you learn more: 44 Free To Be Me! A little BTS to what exactly I'm doing to ensure my mindset is my no.1 asset for not only turbocharging my business success and growth, but ensuring I stay calm, overwhelm-free (most of the time!) and soulfully filled up now that I'm back in the world of babies, breastfeeding and sleepless nights.   I've always preached about how important it is that your mindset routine WORKS FOR YOU and to allow yourself to figure out what's BEST FOR YOU, and in this episode, I'm walking you through exactly how I apply that to my own life, especially now as my lifestyle and routines have been a little changed up by the arrival of baby Gabriella.   I'm also sharing what my no.1 focus is within my mindset practice, and why I think it's crucial to allow for success not only in your business but in your life. This one thing has a magical ability to almost instantly relieve the pressure and stress and allows you to feel soul-level nourished and supported - which in my world means you're going to show up and lead your life in the best way possible, and in the way where success and business growth happen almost (dare I say it!...) automatically.    You're going to walk away from this episode with a renewed enthusiasm to recreate (or create if it's your first time!) your own mindset practice and with a fresh understanding of what the real purpose of it all is and why it's just so crucial if you want to run your business free of overwhelm, stress and pressure.   In other news… Got an idea for a business but not sure where to start? Or maybe you've started but you have you're not totally confident you've covered those crucial start-up bases? I got you beautiful lady!

Do you struggle with obedience? Is it difficult surrendering to God?   I invite you into a faithfulness mindset shift.  Faithfulness is living from the inside-out, where your heart is involved, and it's transformative. Obedience doesn't mean God has our heart and won't transform us. Obedience trains us to follow God's Word, but we can obey but not love. Often, obedience can be of performance & a punishment-based relationship vs. God's loving kindness and faithfulness.   Our greatest command is to love God with all that we are and to love others as ourself. God wants our heart. We are to be conformed into the image of Christ. He is called Faithful and True! (Revelation 19:11) Jesus said people would know that we are His disciples by our love.(John 13:35) Faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23) When I surrender to Love, I will take steps of obedience and faith. Love is my motive to be faithful to God, and then practice it.   In the Old Covenant obedience was crucial because it determined whether God's people received blessing or curses. (1 Samuel 15:22) In the New Covenant, faithfulness comes to the forefront. Hebrews 11 is known as the “Hall of Faith” not obedience. As New Covenant Believers of Jesus Christ, we are already blessed based upon Jesus' obedience and performance. God has already blessed us Ephesians 1  2 Peter 1:2-4   In this episode, I share a live discussion I had with my friend, Chris Cree of New CREEations Ministries. Have you ever asked this question? Are you angry at God for not doing something about your situation?    When we are going through difficult situations, we want answers... to understand, to give meaning and purpose, and to somehow find comfort in them.  Where do you go when you are in the midst of a challenging circumstance? What or Who do you turn to?   I believe the real question behind the "why" of a storm is: “Lord, do you love me?” “If you love me, why don't you do something about it?”    We are called to live by faith and trust God, by believing His Word and knowing His nature and character, so we can become who He created us to be. Romans 8:28-31  all things work together for our good…and the purpose is to be conformed to the image of Christ. To be imitators of Jesus. Our faith will be tested so we know what has been deposited in us, to grow and mature. Circumstances will always appear bigger than you can handle. God is the answer and with Him, miracles happen. In this episode, we will look at Jesus and the disciples in the boat in the storm, and what we can learn from this situation.  Mark 4: 35-41 We must learn to rightly divide the Word of Truth. How to connect the dots of Scripture. God's Word is true. Jesus is the Word and He is Faithful & True! He is in your boat!  Isaiah 55:11-12 Psalm 46:1-3, 10  Matthew 6:33 The enemy is opposing you and he is the accuser of God's character, God's love for you and who you are in Christ.  (John 10:10) Your faith will be tested and your circumstances will appear bigger than you can handle. The book of James talks about our faith being tested but also says that God cannot be tested with evil. We live in a fallen world and people have free will that will oppose us. People, our flesh and the enemy will cause hardships, but not God! He and His Word are the answer! Practical example: I share what I learned in the biggest financial storm I went through while I was in the middle of God's will for us. John 6:68-69     Have questions about today's topic? Have you ever blamed God for a crisis in your life? Most people have.  We all face various storms and trials in life, whether it's a relationship, job or financial situation, or health crisis. However, God doesn't send a storm; He's the answer to the storm!  We just experienced a huge, devastation hurricane called Ian here in Florida. We had to suddenly evacuate our home as we were in the direct path of a category 3 hurricane. Only through Jesus could we have calmness, wisdom and peace to leave our home, not knowing what we would return to.  In this episode, I unpack very important foundational truths about God's nature so we can fully trust Him to be prepared for the various storms we will face:  God is not the source of the storm.  God's character and nature have been misrepresented since Genesis 3 in the Garden of Eden. It began with the serpent and is even being taught today in various religions and even the Christian pulpit.  God does not send a storm to teach you something!  He's not trying to manipulate you into loving Him! That is not love! He's the answer to the storm!  We live in a fallen world and people have free will and make choices that affect us. Sin altered God's original creation. Life in general and people will tests us, our flesh and unrenewed mind will test us, but God has only provided for us through Jesus' obedience in His death, burial and resurrection on our behalf.  God gives us a way through to experience victory! God will not put sickness on you to teach you something, God will not send a storm to humble you to depend upon him, and God will not only bless you if you are completely and immediately obedient to Him…! Jesus is the exact expression of the Father. We look to Jesus to see the true nature of God. It's the goodness and loving kindness that leads one to repentance —to turn towards God—not punishment, sickness, calamity. We live in a New Covenant of grace. Jesus said we would have tribulations, but to take heart as He is with us and has given us His Word, Spirit & Authority to overcome them and have victory. The answers are found in Him! “The most compassionate people are the most boundaried,” says Sarah Vosen, FRIED's newest burnout coach. As an HSP and an empath, Sarah is deeply tuned into the emotional experiences of the people around her. We are thrilled to welcome her to the FRIED team, where she will be offering coaching sessions alongside Cait. On today's episode, Sarah and Cait discuss Sarah's personal burnout story as well as the new perspectives and approach she will bring to our burnout community.   Cait has known Sarah for over twenty years, and Cait's own mother once described Sarah as “love personified.” However, when Sarah was deep in her burnout, she lost the ability to hold the loving space for her clients that Cait's mom and so many others had experienced. Sarah tells listeners that she found herself in a constant tired but wired state: she felt low, but she was also running on pure adrenaline. Now, Sarah is working with both a burnout coach and a functional medicine specialist to identify and address the emotional and physical contributors to her burnout. While her burnout story is ongoing, Sarah tells listeners that she is finally beginning to find love again.   Tune into today's episode of FRIED. The Burnout Podcast for a conversation with Sarah Vosen about empathy, burnout recovery and feeling love again. Be sure to listen to the full episode for a short #straightfromcait segment about honoring yourself, even when your burnout recovery may feel sucky. And if you are interested in working with Sarah, book a FREE connection call using the link below!   Quotes • “I feel like my burnout story starts at birth….I have an anxious attachment style, and that has certainly been a filter that has influenced my life and every single decision I've ever made.” (02:44-03:21) • “I was receiving treatment – chiropractic, acupuncture, and some massage – and I started noticing that they weren't working. I couldn't relax.” (05:25-05:34) • “My biggest issues have been with my gut, which in Chinese medicine is spleen and stomach and all about nurturing and nourishment, whether that's coming from food or an emotional source….And I have had difficulty receiving my whole life.” (26:46-27:19) • “All of the emotional things have manifested physically, or all the physical things have manifested emotionally, and I see how my physical body shifts as I work and process through the emotional things.” (28:30-28:48) • “The most compassionate people are the most boundaried.” (41:09-41:12) • “Empathy with boundaries equals compassion and is the only way to make being empathetic sustainable.” (43:16-43:25) • “I didn't know I was a sensitive person. I didn't know. I thought everybody was like me. Turns out that's not true. So, in taking the quiz and finding this out…it was so enlightening and so validating.” (48:20-48:40) • “All mammals – animals and humans – have 20% of their species that are highly sensitive, and this is meant to be important and evolutionary for the group.” (49:43-50:00) • “It's ok to be totally sucking at your burnout recovery right now.” (59:22-59:25 | Cait) • “If you allow it, your burnout recovery journey could be the most interesting, introspective journey you take in your entire life. Burnout recovery is an absolute chance to know yourself intimately, to rebuild trust in your ability to communicate between your mind and your body and to figure out how you can show up on a day-to-day basis that honors who you are, what you came here for and what kind of energy you have to do all of that today.” (1:00:46-1:01:15 | Cait)   Links https://www.sarahpeutics.org/about-us#vosen https://www.instagram.com/sarah.vosen/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/sarahvosenlac/ QUIZ - Which Burnout Coach is Best For You? https://www.tryinteract.com/share/quiz/61d4455460a67b0018a4c902 https://hsperson.com   Schedule a free connect call with Sarah here: https://caitdonovan.as.me/sarah    XOXO, C   If you know that it's time to actually DO something about the burnout cycle you've been in for too long - book your free consult today: bit.ly/callcait   Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

I have all of this in my body.”“Breathwork helps us remember who we truly are.”Reclaim Your Sense Of Self [36:36]“A knowingness of who we are helps with any projections that come at us. No one has the right to tell you who you are.”“Showing up with our authentic expression, there is a fear of being misunderstood. But the reason that stings so bad is because of the vulnerability behind it.”Find Your Happy [47:02]“My happiness is not dependent on my circumstances but despite it because it's coming from a deeper place.”“I can't think of a better way to help people than breathwork.”

We have a closed Open Sky Fitness Podcast group  on Facebook where you and everyone have the opportunity to talk about your health and fitness goals in a safe environment. We post workouts and start discussions about how to be strategic around finding a healthier you. Check it out! Should You Count Calories? Are counting your calories really worth it? On this episode of Open Sky Fitness, Rob and Devon discuss the disadvantages and benefits of counting calories on a daily basis. Counting Calories is a Mental Game   "Doing such a low-calorie diet can be dangerous because you don't really learn how to live a healthy lifestyle. You learn how to live a low-calorie deficit lifestyle and it messes with your body." - Rob and Devon Dionne on one of their clients following a low-calorie diet to lose weight fast.   The mentality that we have to eat less and move more actually hurts us. It makes us all feel targeted and that we're not doing enough even though we're really giving it all we've got. All of our bodies are different and we have different health goals. Diets are created to help people, but the reality is that extreme diets like low calorie diets only help 5% of people! That's right, low calorie diets have a 95% fail rate!   A Strict Health Program or Diet is Not Your Golden Ticket Programs like The Biggest Loser or meal plans like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers may seem like they help people experience health miracles, but they're really not sustainable in the long term. Once you're done with a program like The Biggest Loser, you have to figure everything out for yourself again. You're not in such a strict environment anymore. You have to learn how to cook for yourself and maintain your healthy lifestyle while balancing everything  out- work, family, and other responsibilities at the same time.   "The best thing that you can do to see improvement in your health is to eat whole foods and find a physical activity that you love and can do for 2-3 times a week." - Rob and Devon Dionne on living a healthy life.   What is a Calorie?   It's true that if you eat more calories than you can burn, you will gain weight and if you eat fewer calories than what your body needs, you will lose weight. But the question to answer is: How are you burning those calories? - Devon Dionne   A calorie is essentially a unit of energy that the body can utilize. It's easy to keep track of the calories that you take in, but it gets complicated when you want to calculate how many calories you're burning with exercise. A lot of people believe that the calories that come from what they've eaten and what they're burning are the same, but this is not true. There are many different factors that come into play that help you burn calories. Your body actually utilizes and burns calories in 4 different ways: Resting metabolic rate Thermogenesis: the calories it takes for your body to digest food Hormones Exercise   Your Resting Metabolic Rate   "We're genetically designed to over eat. So when we have the opportunity to over eat, we do it because our bodies are designed to store as much excess energy as possible for the times when we do not have the opportunities to consume food." - Rob Dionne   Think of your body like a bank and the calories that you consume are your salary. Each day, you take in a certain amount of money/calories and you either spend it all or you have a bit left at the end of the day. The money/calories that are left over from before go into the bank/body storage. If you spend what you take in, you don't lose weight and stay the same, but if you have calories left over, you gain weight by storing fat. Doing a low calorie diet is like chopping our salary by 1/3 of what our body is used to consuming. When we lower our calorie intake, our body learns that it cannot burn as much as it could before because it wants to hold onto the fat that we've stored. Storing calories and fat is a natural survival tactic that humans have had for centuries. We've had it ever since we were hunters and gatherers when food wasn't always available for us. A low calorie diet lowers your metabolic energy rate because your body wants to hold onto the energy.   Thermogenesis: Whole Food vs Processed Food Thermogenesis tells us how many calories we're able to burn in our digestive system. There was a study done about how our bodies are able to burn calories when we eat whole foods vs. processed foods. During the study, one group ate whole-wheat bread sandwiches with real cheddar cheese and the other group ate white bread with processed cheese. In a nut shell, the study concluded that we use way more energy and calories to digest whole foods than we do for processed foods. The quality of food that we eat makes a difference in the amount of calories we burn.  In another example, Rob and Devon took a close look at how a processed meal of 1,700 calories from a fast food restaurant compares to a whole meal of at most 1,000 calories that contains a steak with veggies and/or potato. Our body can easily digest the 1,700 calorie meal so our body doesn't really burn a lot of calories. However, when we eat a whole meal of steak and vegetables, the body burns so much energy and calories just to digest all of the food during thermogenesis.   The Connection Between Calories and Hormones   "Calories in restaurants and on labels can give or take by 20%. So the FDA will allow for a protein bar to label the product as having 20% less calories than it actually does have. Therefore, a protein bar may say it has 200 calories, but it could actually have 20% different and have up to 240 calories." - Devon Dionne   Insulin Production Can Increase When we're healthy, our cells are able to receive energy from food in the form of glucose. If we have too much glucose, then the excess amount is stored as fat. If we follow an unhealthy diet, the glucose is unable to get into the cells to give us energy. Instead, the glucose just ends up staying in the blood stream. But we don't want the glucose to stay in the blood stream and so our body keeps pumping more and more insulin to try to get rid of it. If the glucose has no where to go, then it ends up in the liver and stored as fat. When there's too much glucose in the body, we can become insulin resistant. When we have so much insulin in our bodies and we're depleted of energy, we could have Type 2 Diabetes.   The Function of Adrenaline Can Slow Down Because of over production of insulin, adrenaline cannot function properly. It cannot use fat from the cells and utilize them. If you eat all the time, you'll have too much insulin and your body cannot release adrenaline.   The Right Amount of Proper Exercise Can Burn Calories   "Cardio is a great way to burn calories in the moment. But weight lifting burns more calories overtime and increases both your metabolism and insulin sensitivity." - Rob and Devon Dionne   No one should feel like they have to force themselves to do a certain workout for so many hours and days each week. To help you burn more calories with exercise, find something that you enjoy doing. Whatever form of exercise you love to do, make sure that it's doable and you can do it a couple of times each week. Maybe you can't hike every day, but you can at least go for a run or hit the gym during the working week. The best way to see results is to do both cardio and lift weights. Cardio helps you instantly burn calories, but lifting weights will allow you to have long-term results. Just keep in mind that the more muscles you have, the more weight you will have to lift over time.   Too Much Exercise is a Recipe for Disaster Believe it or not, there is such a thing as working out too much. Over-exercising will actually help you gain weight! When you're stressed out and you're working out a lot, your cortisol stress levels will increase. When your cortisol levels are high, it decreases your insulin resistance and you hold more weight in your body.   When Is Calorie Counting a Good Idea? Calorie counting can be good for two things: A starting point to know your body When you're preparing to be in a fitness competition Counting calories is a great way to know the base point of  your health and how many calories you're eating each day. It can help you pay attention to the foods that you're eating, the portion size, and understand how many calories you should cut out from your diet. You don't have to count calories forever. Just do it for a week or so to understand your personal nutrition.  Keep a food journal to track everything including how many carbs, proteins, macro-nutrients, and fats you're eating.   Counting Calories Can Do More Harm Than Good   "What are you learning about your body when you go on a diet? Besides just losing weight, are you paying attention to your energy levels, digestion, sleep, or even your mental health? Pay attention to those factors because when you put your body through a calorie deficit, it's less likely that your body will be able to run smoothly." - Rob Dionne   Unless you're just starting to take a look at your nutrition or you're going to be in a body building competition soon. There's really no reason why you should be concerned with counting calories. To summarize this topic, here are reasons why you shouldn't be counting calories: It's mentally unsustainable Slows down your metabolism Easy to yo-yo your diet Creates stress and bad moods Poor quality of food from programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers Harms your digestion, sleep, and mental health     Start Building Your Own Workouts and Meal Plan!
