They debate whether Microsoft is finally moving beyond rebranding OpenAI/Anthropic models, discuss agent security concerns around Scout's OpenClaw/MCP foundations, and touch on the competitive push toward cheaper coding tools. The conversation broadens to quantum computing claims, data-center overbuild versus efficient small models and local inference, Anthropic's IPO valuation and Mythos/Glasswing security work, looming AI regulation challenges, robotics progress, and Canada's new AI strategy promising $2B, a supercomputer by 2031, and major adoption goals that they argue lacks implementation detail. 00:00 Cold Open Banter 00:19 Microsoft Drops New AI Stack 01:28 MAI Model And Clean Data 03:23 Copilot Confusion And Privacy 05:39 Maia Chips And Frontier Ambitions 12:14 Scout Agent And MCP Security 17:17 Microsoft Distribution And AI Economy 24:13 Apps Dying And Office Rivalry 27:20 Quantum Chip Shockwave 31:01 Data Centers Versus Small Models 35:51 NVIDIA RTX Spark Local AI 40:17 Software Overcapacity And CRM Threat 42:00 Why Software Gets Huge 44:41 DIY Simple Writer Demo 46:04 AI Note Taking Gadgets 48:47 Anthropic IPO Valuation 56:15 Mythos And Zero Days 59:25 Regulating AI Everywhere 01:04:24 Robots And China Scale 01:06:46 Canada AI Strategy Critique 01:15:56 Open Source Canada Plan 01:18:33 Hopeful Wrap Up

It started as a punishment. In 2016, jD heard Greg LeGros pitch "Now For Plan A" on See You Next Wednesday - not as a bad pick, but as something deeply underappreciated that deserved a real listen. jD listened. Came back. And somehow, without either of them knowing it yet, that was the moment Fully & Completely was born.Full circle, ten years later. Here we are.About This EpisodejD and Greg LeGros return to the record that, in a weird and fortuitous way, started everything - The Tragically Hip's 2012 album "Now For Plan A." It's the most overlooked record in the catalogue. It's also, when you know what you're listening to, one of the most emotionally devastating. The Hip recorded "Now For Plan A" while Gord Downie's wife was fighting cancer. Not every track maps directly to that experience - but enough of them do that, once you know, the whole album reorients. The desperation in the vocals. The urgency in the hooks. The tenderness buried inside songs that, on the surface, just cook.jD and Greg go track by track through the full record, unpacking every song with the weight of that context - and without it, for the songs that stand on their own terms. They talk about what it means to watch a chemotherapy drip and write a lyric. About Gord's wife being "the look ahead." About a title that works on at least three different levels simultaneously. About why 'Goodnight Attawapiskat' is a precis for the last six years of the band. They also set the scene for 2012 - the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto, the beginning of streaming, the vinyl comeback, Kendrick Lamar's arrival, and how Bruce Springsteen's "Wrecking Ball" tour changed at least one life in Hamilton that year. This is a big one.Why This Record MattersjD puts it plainly near the end: "This is almost like a precis for the last six years of this band." The journey through cancer. The band songs. The Indigenous reckoning with a thousand mile suit and a community named out loud. "Now For Plan A" was released in 2012 with no context - and it quietly contained everything that was coming.Greg's take is maybe the sharpest thing said in the episode: "How weird is it that he didn't get to release a record about his illness, and yet we've got track after track of him explaining how he feels about this illness."You've got to love it. We've got to love it. Because they fucking loved it.Also in This EpisodeThe 100th Grey Cup: nine-and-nine Toronto Argonauts, Burton Cummings on the National Anthem, Justin Bieber and Gordon Lightfoot sharing a halftime showWhy you should follow Burton Cummings on Facebook immediatelyThe streaming-meets-vinyl moment of 2012, and why download codes were a genius moveGreg's Springsteen conversion in Hamilton (it took three hours and he knew 15% of the songs)Greg's CanRock playlist on Spotify - four hours, search Greg LeGrosThe return of Time Bandits, Greg's other podcast - starting with 1980's "Battle Beyond the Stars"Resources & ReferencesThe Hip Compendium - Setlists, song history, full discography: compendium.tthpods.comHipbase - Tragically Hip discography and catalogue data: hipbase.comThis Is Our Life by Michael Barclay - the definitive Hip biographyThe Tragically Hip Archive - Live recordings and preservation archiveGreg LeGros on Spotify - CanRock playlist + Time Bandits episodes (search: Greg LeGros)Yer Letter - Sign up for the TTH Podcast Series newsletter: subscribe.tthpods.comFacebook Community - community.tthpods.comListen & FollowListen now via home.tthpods.com | Follow on Instagram and Facebook @tthpods | Reach jD at jd@tthpods.com#TheTragicallyHip #FullyCompletely #GordDownie #NowForPlanA #CanadianRock #TragicallyHipPodcastAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Neil Young's otherworldly ability to morph between raging metalhead to the most sentimental of romantics never fails to astound. Always uncompromising, this cranky Canadian has been inflexible in his stance to be unencumbered - and, prolific - recording over 45 solo albums, not to mention those classics created with Buffalo Springfield and CSN&Y. Surviving polio as a child, and a brain aneurysm in middle age, he kept coming back stronger than ever.  I've seen him live twice: at the Greek Theater during the Greendale tour, then again a couple of years back when my son and I flew to Tucson to celebrate the slower, less blazing, but still mesmerizing octogenarian troubadour. His music has been a touchstone throughout my life, starting with the iconic Reprise album “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere” which contained Down by the River - a dorm room sing along. His vast catalogue makes it difficult to pick only ten covers, but the range here is evident, swinging from Pearl Jam's live version of Keep on Rockin' in the Free World to Emmylou Harris's wistful floatation on Daniel Lanois's diaphanous Wrecking Ball. Neil's own vocal style is so distinctive that it's tempting to disregard how beautiful some of his melodies are. I think you'll find that this line up does them justice.HEART OF GOLD (JOHNNY CASH)MR. Ever heard a song that has a shimmering, "angelic" jangle that sits perfectly above a mix? Or how Buddy Miller creates those haunting, rootsy textures on songs like Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road," or Daniel Lanois on Emmylou's Wrecking Ball album? The answer isn't a mandolin, it's the Octave 12-string guitar (often called a mando-guitar). In this video, we're diving into the world of these high-tuned wonders, exploring the gear, the tuning, and the legendary players who made them a staple of modern atmospheric production.Support the show

On their penultimate show, Marc Malusis and his co-host break down the "calous business" of the New York Mets' offseason following the departure of Pete Alonso. With the news of Alonso heading to the Orioles and Edwin Diaz out the door, Malusis demands to know why David Stearns and Steve Cohen—despite having the deepest pockets in baseball—refused to match a reasonable offer to keep the "Polar Bear" behind Juan Soto. The duo debates whether Stearns is a brilliant architect building a sustainable winner or a cold-hearted executive tearing down the clubhouse's soul. From the "skepticism" of the Mets' new casino-linked finances to the potential (and pitfalls) of a Kyle Tucker pursuit, Malusis leaves no stone unturned in this heated post-mortem of a franchise at a crossroads.

Welcome back to Transmissions, a weekly interview podcast created and curated by Los Angeles online music magazine Aquarium Drunkard. This week on the show, host Jason P. Woodbury speaks with a living legend, and one of our all-time favorite vocalists and songsmiths: Emmylou Harris.  On November 7th, New West Records will re-release an expanded edition of her 1998 live album Spyboy, back in print after 27 years. Recorded in the wake 1995's Wrecking Ball, an LP that redefined Harris for a whole new generation, Spyboy finds Harris and her band—Buddy Miller, Brady Blade and Daryl Johnson—on the road and stretching out into feverish new territory for the storied singer. Harris released her first album in 1970, and along the way, she's collaborated with artists like country rock pioneer Gram Parsons, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and countless more. But as she settled into the ‘90s, she felt that country radio no longer made space for voices like hers—prompting a shift into a new direction with producer Daniel Lanois, who crafted a spectral, haunted sound for Wrecking Ball, placing her voice at the dreamy center. The resulting era introduced Harris to new ears—and we were thrilled to speak with her about it for this episode. Transmissions is created in partnership with the Talkhouse Podcast Network. We're brought to you by Aquarium Drunkard, an independent music media crew headed by Justin Gage. Over at Aquarium Drunkard, you'll gain access to 20 years of music writing, playlist, essays, mixtapes, radio special, podcasts, videos and more.

What does it take to rise from cleaning studios to shaping some of the most iconic records of our time? Trina Shoemaker's story is not just about breaking into the music industry—it's about breaking through it. As the first woman to win a Grammy for Best Engineered Album, Trina paved the way for a generation of female producers and engineers, and she brings her powerful voice and razor-sharp insight to this inspiring and unfiltered conversation. In this episode, Trina shares how she went from mopping floors at Capitol Records to earning Grammy wins for her work with artists like Sheryl Crow and Emmylou Harris. She tells the behind-the-scenes stories of working on Wrecking Ball and how that album helped define the sound of Americana. We explore her years in London learning the art of engineering, her move to New Orleans to join the legendary Kingsway Studio, and the deep musical and personal lessons she learned along the way. Trina also pulls back the curtain on the realities of being a woman in a male-dominated field—how she navigated the industry, demanded respect, and held true to her belief in capturing raw, honest performances. She discusses her approach to vocal production, why she avoids auto-tune, and how crafting backing vocals is one of her secret weapons. Beyond her life in the studio, Trina opens up about her love of writing and her dream of publishing a novel and having actor Will Patton narrate the audiobook. Whether you're a seasoned engineer or just starting out, this episode offers a powerful reminder: authenticity, persistence, and a deep respect for the artist's process will always rise above the noise. Get access to FREE mixing mini-course: https://MixMasterBundle.com My guest today is Trina Shoemaker, who was born in 1965 and raised in Joliet, IL, southwest of Chicago. Over the past three-and-a-half decades, she has produced, recorded and mixed hundreds of records. A four-time Grammy® Award winner and six-time nominee, she is the first woman to win the Grammy® for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. Her credits run the gamut from Queens Of The Stone Age, Rodney Crowell, Charley Crockett and Iggy Pop to Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile and Tanya Tucker. Although audio engineering is a passion, writing songs and playing musical instruments are not. Instead, while her ears are busy in the studio recording music, her imagination is busy creating characters, narratives, plotlines and dialogues as she travels through the hidden workings of songs. These stories have culminated in the creation of her debut novel, Bury Me Alive In Your Sugar. Trina lives on Mobile Bay in Fairhope, Alabama, with her husband, singer-songwriter Grayson Capps.
