Embracing Your Season: Raising Littles and Understanding Teens with Paige Clingenpeel
Did you know that your diet could be related to mental health issues like anxiety and depression? On this week's episode of Embracing Your Season, host Paige Clingenpeel discusses several takeaways about diet and how that correlates with anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. We need to be mindful of what we are putting in our bodies and how it is affecting our everyday health.Takeaways:Stimulants - Caffeine, soda, energy drinks, coffee and some teas are examples of stimulants that can affect our bodies in negative ways.Make a food diary - What are we eating and drinking that can have a negative impact and correlate with anxiety symptoms? Sugar - How much processed sugar are we consuming? Sugar hits the same part of our brain as the pleasure center.Food allergies - They can cause headaches, inflammation and impact your body in negative ways. The majority of the “feel good” chemicals come from your gut so if you are feeling awful, it might be that you need to heal your gut.Water - It's a natural purifier. Some anxiety symptoms come from lack of hydration.Vitamins and minerals - What fruits, vegetables and proteins are you eating? The food diary can help with this in order to keep track of what vitamins and supplements your body might not be getting so you can add them into your routine.Sleep - Lack of sleep can increase mental health issues like depression, anxiety, irritability, and conflict resolution skills. Sleep helps heal our bodies and restore it.Paige ClingenpeelQuestions About the Podcast? Water: It's just fun and we are always washed anew.

Jay wants to Road Trip the Alcan Highway.Things you need on driving the alcon highway by Hannah Lukaszewicz1. SPARE TIRE Driving down the Alcan Highway there is no shortage of potholes that are sure to at your tire (or some may swallow your car whole). We suggest traveling with a full-size spare tire. It could easily be several hundred miles from the next town with an auto body shop.2. GAS CAN There are stretches along the Alcan Highway where there are no gas stations for 200+ miles. Make sure to have a full gas can for emergencies. We bought this 5-gallon gas can on Amazon and it fits perfectly in the middle of our spare tire. 3. ALASKA MILEPOST Alaskans refer to the Milepost book as “the bible to Alaska”. This book has a ton of Alaska information and Alaska maps. It gives a mile by mile description of every highway including accommodation, camping, gas, restaurants, attractions, viewpoints, etc.4. POWER INVERTER Not all electronics can be charged off your car's 12-volt outlet/cigarette lighter port. Having a power inverter is a must especially for charging computers and camera batteries.5. BATTERY STARTER CAR JUMPER If your car dies at home you more than likely will call a friend to come to jump you…well that isn't an option on the Alcan Highway. You'll want a battery starter that doesn't rely on another car.6. TIRE JACK Most cars come with a tire jack, but before you start your drive to Alaska make sure yours is still there. Next, make sure it isn't all rusty and actually works to raise your car high enough to change a tire.7. SATELLITE PHONE If you are driving to Alaska alone or have a loved one that is and you want some peace of mind you might want to consider getting a satellite phone. Satellite phones have been cheaper over the years and wouldn't be a bad idea to have.8. MULTIPLE USB CAR CHARGER Drive days are long and passengers in the car are most likely going to be on some sort of electronic. Make sure to pick up a multi-port USB car charger so your multiple things can charge at once.9. ROAD ATLAS MAP A good map is a must. Don't plan on having data on a majority of the Alcan Highway except in cities. We love our Rand McNally road atlas, it has great detailed maps and points out campgrounds which are great for finding a place to pull over for the night.10. MUSIC Make sure you have Sirus XM radio or a long playlist. No joke there were days where there wasn't a single radio station available. Our 2006 Honda Odyssey wasn't set up for Sirus XM so we had to buy this XM car kit. Or listen to Collage Travel Radio. 11. SNACKS I still remember the day I asked a shop owner where the nearest fast food place was and he told me 10 hours that way (pointing to Alaska) or 4 hours that way (where I just came from)…So yeah make sure you have plenty of snacks in the car. There are sit-down restaurants along the way but if you are like us and you want the drive to Alaska to be over then sitting down for an hour meal isn't an option.12. WATER It's always good to have a few gallons of water just in case your car breaks down. Very few of the designated campsites had water pumps and the ones that we did use we used for cooking & dishes but didn't drink them.13. TOILET PAPER/BABY WIPES If there are no gas stations for 200+ miles that also means no bathrooms…so it's best to have a roll of toilet paper or baby wipes in the car. There are plenty of areas to pull over and do what you go to do but DON'T litter. Make sure to bring your tissue with you and throw it away at the next available garbage can.
What commitments do you want to renew towards your independence and emotional well being? What parts of your character do you want to develop? What's satisfying you right now? Tapping into small satisfactions signals to the universe that you're not allowing life to define your peace -- instead you're defining it for yourself FIRE: Shame, Regret and guilt -- those are just bullshit + 3 of Swords + Milk and Honey. In short, maybe there are things you want to do differently moving forward but you can't take back the past. Keep learning to accept the small joys in the moment. EARTH: You are giving your power away + The Fool + Chop Wood. In short, mind your business because your energy is put to better use making your life flourish. Other people around you might not be ready to level up their lives and that's not your problem to manage. AIR: Put the fucking phone down + Temperance, Breathe. In short, new patterns of coping need to be established because your mind's energy is being misused with purposeless scrolling. Take conscious breathes as you break the bad habit of over-using your phone. WATER: It's dark and you can't see a fucking thing + 10 of Pentacles, A Leg Up. In short, dead the self-doubt and pay attention to which tasks/goals need your attention. Based on John chapter 6 verses 14 to 20 and Matthew chapter 14 verses 28 to 36 Walking on Water ‘It was hard work passing out all that bread and fish to all those people! And by the time we'd each collected a basket full of leftovers, the twelve of us were exhausted!' ‘It was then that the crowds realised Jesus had just fed well over five thousand people from the contents of a child's packed lunch, they were amazed! It was an incredible miracle and reminded them of how in the time of Moses, God had fed the people of Israel with manna from heaven when they were wandering in the desert.' ‘It was enough to convince some of the crowd that Jesus was the ‘Great Prophet' Moses had promised would one day come, and so they decided that they were going to make Him king, even if it meant they had to use force to make it happen!' ‘Jesus was indeed the ‘Great Prophet', but at that time we didn't understand how the ‘Great Prophet' Moses had promised would come us, and that His kingdom wasn't one restricted to the earth. And so Jesus slipped away from us all and made His way higher up into the hills to be alone and pray.' (PAUSE) ‘As the crowd melted away, going back to their home, the twelve of us, His disciples, were left waiting for Jesus. Jesus hadn't left any instructions with us about what we were supposed to do. So after a while we wandered back to the boat and waited for Him there.' ‘The hours ticked by slowly, and when it started to get dark and we realised Jesus wasn't going to be coming back with us, we set sail for Capernaum.' ‘The wind was against us from the start and we made slow progress through heavy waves. When we were about three or four miles out into the lake, our minds were completely absorbed in the battle against the waves and in trying to make headway through the dark seas. So when, at about three o'clock in the morning, we saw a figure walking on the water towards us out of the night we screamed in terror!' ‘But no sooner had we seen the figure and started to scream than the voice of Jesus came to us strong and loud from the figure in the darkness. ‘It's all right,' He said. ‘It's me! I'm here! Don't be afraid.'' ‘As we looked at each other, not sure what to think or do, Peter started shouting back. ‘Lord, if it really is you, then tell me to come to you by walking on the water.'' ‘The rest of us couldn't believe what we were hearing! Peter wanted to walk to Jesus on the water - in this storm?' ‘‘Come to me Peter,' Jesus said.' (P) ‘It was so typical of my brother Peter! Without a second thought he leapt out over the side of the boat and, gazing at Jesus, he started to walk on the water towards Him!' (PAUSE) ‘Maybe it was the howling winds that first caught Peter's attention and took his eyes off Jesus. Whatever it was that broke his concentration, Peter started to notice the massive waves rolling by, and as he saw them and stopped looking at Jesus, terror grasped at his heart, and as the fear took hold so he started to slip down into the water. ‘Save me Lord,' he screamed as he sank lower and lower.' ‘Instantly, without a moment's hesitation, Jesus reached out His hand and grabbed hold of Peter. ‘You don't trust me very much do you Peter?' He said. ‘Why did you doubt me?'' ‘The two of them climbed into the boat and as they did, the wind stopped.' (PAUSE) ‘It was then that all of us fell to our knees and worshipped Jesus. We had seen the impossible, Jesus coming to us walking on water in the midst of a storm, and then calling Peter to come to Him on the water. We had seen Jesus save Peter's life when he called out to Him for help. And so on bended knee we all said to Jesus, ‘You really are the Son of God.'' (PAUSE) ‘We landed at Gennesaret and it seemed that within moments the news of our arrival spread throughout the whole region. Soon crowds of people arrived, begging Jesus to heal the sick. Even the sick themselves begged just to be able to touch the fringe of His robe, and everyone who...

Water: It's not just a "resource." It's not a "thing" that happens. Our bodies are mostly water. Maybe our souls are, too. Becca Lawton would know. She's a veteran river guide on the great rivers of the American West who became a fluvial geologist. She's also a beautiful writer whose prize-winning books and essays have helped her understand the connections between humans and wild water. If you live in the Western Hemisphere, you've heard a lot about water lately—mostly in the form of epic floods. No matter where you live, there's some kind of water issue going on (droughts, epic forest fires, you name it). We need to talk about it. Becca and I chat about: How, year after year, she saw people reclaim themselves on a river trip (give yourself at least three days) What river guiding taught her about humans Rivers as spiritual source How writing and stories can help us grok our place in Nature Her Fulbright research on why human brains don't recognize the risks of climate change Her wish in human-water relations Your new vocabulary word, "thalweg" Here's Becca's website, with info on her wonderful books. https://beccalawton.com/books-2/
