It was truly awesome getting to sit down and talk with Ryan Harmon about his music and plans for the future.  On this episode of Music Unraveled we talk about Ryan's influences, how we are both Billy Strings fanboys, growing up playing music, what things have been like being an artist amid the shutdown and much more.  Check out Ryan's bio below as well as links to his website, American Idol audition and his hit single "I knew this Would Happen."  Please visit the website and purchase some of his merchandise.Combining musical influences, from the likes of Chris Stapleton and Travis Tritt, and lyrical influences, from the likes of Guy Clark and John Prine, Ryan Harmon presents a sound that's fresh, yet familiar.   Ryan's been playing and singing since age 11, and has been performing since age 12. After playing on and off with other local musicians, Ryan began performing as a solo artist, and writing his own music. His first solo performance was at the Arkansas Oklahoma State Fair in Fort Smith in 2009, one year after being a Top 20 finalist in the 5News Youth Talent Contest. Almost 10 years later, Ryan continues to perform at various clubs, fairs, and festivals throughout the region.   With a unique mix of Rock, Country, Blues, and Bluegrass, Ryan has created a style that pays tribute to his heroes, while adding his own twist, mixing it all together.       His live performances are energetic, yet intimate, and always feature audience participation. No two shows are the same, with Ryan making spontaneous setlist changes and even playing other instruments occasionally.   2017 will be a special year for Ryan, as he releases his debut album, simply titled "Ryan Harmon." From the rocking, early Johnny Cash influenced "Hold On Sally," to the powerful "Ride The Wind," to the humorous, yet true, country heartbreak anthem "You Left, My Dog Died, and My Heart Did, Too," Ryan continues to prove that a solo acoustic act doesn't have to be quiet background music. Named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time, Dann Penn’s impact on the Southern music triangle of Muscle Shoals, Memphis, and Nashville cannot be overstated. In the 1960s he teamed with Chips Moman to create two of Southern soul’s most revered standards: “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” which was recorded by Aretha Franklin, and “The Dark End of the Street,” which was first cut by James Carr. Along with his frequent collaborator, Spooner Oldham, Penn has crafted R&B classics such as James and Bobby Purify’s “I’m Your Puppet,” Otis Redding’s “You Left the Water Running,” Percy Sledge’s “It Tears Me Up” and “Out of Left Field,” Solomon Burke’s “Take Me (Just As I Am),” and The Sweet Inspirations’ “Sweet Inspiration.” Additionally, the pair found pop success with Janis Joplin’s recording of “A Woman Left Lonely,” as well as hits such as “Cry Like a Baby” and “I Met Her in Church” that were recorded by The Box Tops, who first broke through to national prominence with the Penn-produced hit “The Letter.” Other artists who’ve recorded songs from the Dan Penn songbook include  Bobby “Blue” Bland,  Jerry Lee Lewis, Clarence Carter, Joe Cocker, Cher, Arthur Alexander, Ruth Brown, Irma Thomas, Bobby Womack, Esther Phillips, Joe Tex, Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Gregg Allman, Etta James, Dionne Warwick, Brenda Lee, Willie Nelson, Patti LaBelle, Elvis Costello, Buddy Guy, Arthur Conley, Sam & Dave, Elton John, Wilson Pickett, Roger McGuinn, John Prine, and many more.

Promise: Leverage Your Knowledge through Publishing, Speaking and Training Well, it’s going to be fun for a lot of reasons, but the main reason that you should stick around is that if you have any amount of knowledge in that head, I’m going to be sharing with you how to really leverage that through the power of publishing, speaking, and training.  And don’t worry, if you’ve not done any of those three things, or if you’ve done all of those three things, I’m going to be sharing some insights to help you explode those areas so that you can spend more time with your family, if you want to, or travel, or give to the things that matter to you.  That’s exactly what I have been able to do, literally through the power of those three things. So, it’s a follow-up to this, but I go into greater detail about how I get publishing deals, why people ask me to come and speak, and most importantly, you’ll hear a business model that’s very consistent, which is not to spend money until you have to.  Be profitable from the beginning, and really focus on the things that you are passionate about, have experience in, or are an expert in.  You should add up the money throughout the course of the training.  It’s like an hour and a half long, or somethi ng like that.  You’ll hear the money that you’re leaving on the table.  There are sounds of change and big bundles of money falling as you go through.
