Grace Hitchcock is the author of multiple historical novels and novellas. She holds a Masters in Creative Writing and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in History. Grace lives near New Orleans on a hobby farm with her husband, Dakota, sons and daughter. Regency England -- Austen or Heyer? Grace Hitchcock joins us for a conversation about all things Regency England. While Jane Austen may be the first name to pop to mind, Grace loves the adventure and humor of author Georgette Heyer's Regency romances. We discuss what characters Grace would love to have tea with, and what aspect of Regency society made her devise a cheat sheet to keep it straight. Every Story Needs Some Laughter Known for the fun and humor woven alongside the serious situations in her books, Grace shares how she weaves that humor into her stories -- often at her character's expense. A Mismatched Couple With a relatively staid and traditionally minded hero and an ambitious heroine who is quite "inventive" when it comes to solving her problems, the novel we discuss today, To Kiss a Knight, promises a fun and adventure-filled romance. Grace gives us an inside peek into what makes these two characters themselves -- and how they'll be perfect for each other. Connect with Grace at her website, where you can sign up for her newsletter and receive a free novella, and on Facebook, Instagram, Goodreads, and Amazon. ABOUT THE BOOK To Kiss a Knight Vivienne Poppy's plans are working out quite well. She's run away from her family and the prospect of a horrid marriage of convenience and plans to spend her time writing under her pseudonym, Lady Larkby. Until she discovers the old Larkby title is not as dead as she thought. Yeoman of the Guard and recently knighted Sir Sebastian Larkby is stunned to discover a Lady Larkby that he does not remember marrying. Suddenly Vivienne is left with a choice: relinquish her pen name, expose her true identity, and break Sebastian's dying grandmother's heart—or feign marriage to Sebastian to keep the title and fulfill the old woman's wishes. This witty novel from award-winning author Grace Hitchcock is filled with scandal, mishap, and just the right amount of romance. The sounds of New Orleans carry a mood that's both jubilant and deeply human; it dances and mourns in the same breath. It's the sound of the street parade meeting the juke joint: syncopated, earthy, and alive with horns, piano rolls, and that unmistakable backbeat shuffle. Unlike the more urban polish of Chicago blues or the rural cry of the Delta, New Orleans R&B has always felt like a conversation between the sacred and the profane, where gospel chords meet barroom swagger. Just beyond the Crescent City's lights, where the waters of the bayou take form, we've got the accordions and fiddles of the swamp, where there's humor, head and heartbreak woven into the DNA of the deep South. It is joyous and haunted, elegant and raw, as well as endlessly resilient. The music of New Orleans inspired an ethos — that music could be communal, unrestrained, and celebratory no matter the hardship. It taught America how to dance through its troubles, to find rhythm in resilience, and to turn sorrow into sound that still shakes the rafters and demands a communal dance to this day. This week's show raises the flag of the Crescent City and her environs with a rhythm and bayou romp!

Sellers completed 5 of 8 passes for 82 yards, including scoring passes of 15 and 40 yards to Joshua Reed and a 12-yarder to D.J. Marshall. Despite the score, Reed and Bears coach Chan Lowe felt the team didn't play as well as it can. “Feeling pretty good but we came out slow and played down,” Reed said. “They shouldn't have scored.” Ja'kavien Collins had 44 yards on three attempts, two of those touchdowns from 5...Article Link

SRI360 | Socially Responsible Investing, ESG, Impact Investing, Sustainable Investing
In this episode, my guest is Timothy Rann, Managing Partner of Mercy Corps Ventures. He leads what is likely the only venture capital fund in the world to have emerged from within a humanitarian NGO. When the fund was first created, Mercy Corps itself was a $600 million-a-year organization working in more than 40 conflict and climate-stressed countries. After years of building businesses in fragile markets such as Cambodia, Vietnam, and Afghanistan, he and his wife moved to Jakarta, where he was recruited to help launch what became Mercy Corps Ventures. The original idea was to create “the equivalent of Google X inside a nonprofit.”But that venture-building model proved too expensive. Tim and his team pivoted and convinced the board to let them invest directly in startups serving the Global South. From those beginnings, Mercy Corps Ventures has scaled into a family of four funds with more than 60 portfolio companies across Africa, Latin America, and Asia.Their first fund was evergreen, seeded by family offices and corporates, later joined by institutions like USAID and Proparco. It's already produced a unicorn and multiple exits. The second fund, now aiming for $50 million, focuses on climate adaptation and resilience. The third fund is the Venture Lab. It puts small grants behind frontier ideas – everything from anticipatory cash transfers to glacier restoration. And the fourth is a Web3 fund. Its purpose is simple: to test whether decentralized finance can lower costs and expand access in emerging markets. Mercy Corps Ventures has what they call a resilient future thesis. The idea is to back startups that help communities in emerging markets adapt to climate change and recover faster from shocks.Their thesis is built around three verticals:adaptive agriculture and food systemsinclusive fintechclimate-smart technologiesInstead of waiting years for perfect research to act on, they put capital to work now. They test what works and learn along the way. As Tim puts it, “We need to take as much impact risk as commercial risk within the realm”.It's this willingness to test, fail, and adapt that's helped MCV move from an experiment inside a nonprofit to one of the most innovative impact investors in the Global South today. In this interview, Tim talks about what it takes to back founders in fragile markets, why impact investing sometimes means taking risks no one else will, and why boring products like factoring can unlock climate resilience.Tune in to hear more about his remarkable journey.—About the SRI 360° Podcast: The SRI 360° Podcast is focused exclusively on sustainable & responsible investing. Anika and Liz are here, and we hunger for braincells! Unfortunately, before we can celebrate our favourite episode of the season so far, we have to talk about the Spock/La'an of it all... When Anika said she shipped Spock/La'an, she didn't mean in canon! "I want to slut shame Spock, and not in an ironic way." At this point it's gonna look pretty bad if Spock DOESN'T hook up with Uhura This episode has literally the same ending as "Charades" AND NOW on to the rest of the episode, which was perfectly solid and did not deserve this The show within a show: Sanctuary Moon intensifies Brace yourself, Liz has nothing but praise for Anson Mount's performance as TK Burrows Lucille Ball and Ida Lupino, honouring the women who worked behind the scenes in Hollywood Everyone was great, but Melissa Navia stole the whole show "It's 'Our Man Bashir' and it's 'The Big Goodbye', but just for a moment, it was 'Far Beyond the Stars'."

On the pod today, we take a look back at the joyous 2024-25 Conference League season, which ended in a Chelsea triumph, but featured many raucous, riveting, and memorable moments. It was a campaign for the UNDERDOG, and we revisit many of our favorites, including the incomparable NK Celje, the delicious Djurgårdens IF, and the fearless Jagiellonia Białystok, all of whom made deep tournament runs. We laud the newbies, too – FC Noah, The New Saints (TNS), and Larne FC – for their very competitive debuts in group-stage European football, as well as Shamrock Rovers for highlighting the quickly-ascending Irish league (and their 16-year old striker). We also tackle some of the biggest disappointments, including İstanbul Başakşehir and Heart of Midlothian (Hearts), and debate whether it's fair to include Fiorentina in this category. Finally, we pay tribute to the best games and goals of the campaign, before waxing poetic about the virtues of our precious Conference League. Cheers Enzo Maresca and all favorite underdogs! Like many musicians, Kerry started singing and performing when he was a kid in church. At age 7 he was singing solos in front of the entire congregation. Then came piano lessons to learn to read and write music. He really loved to sing though, so he concentrated on his vocals. He performed all throughout his school years, all the way up through college at George Mason University. The West Coast was calling him so in 1988 on a wing and a prayer he heads out to L.A.!! He settles in and meets some great musicians and starts to perform out there, singing in some experimental Rock bands like Acid Clown. In 1991 he came up with the concept of The Thrillbillyz and, along with the help of some great musician friends, was able to record a four song demo at Fox Studios in Glendale, CA and work with the owner/engineer Rich Fox. In 1993 ,after several years of performing around Southern California as The Thrillbillyz, Hurley moves back to the East Coast and his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia. Roanoke definitely is not as big of a market as L.A. but it has a growing music scene and Hurley jumps in head first. He re-forms The Thrillbillyz and starts playing shows like crazy. He continues to write and work on his originals and in 1994 takes his band into Flat Five Studios in Salem, VA and records the album “Romp!” and releases it in 1995. Ten of the eleven songs are originals and a few of the songs (Franklin County Moonshine & Sweet Leaf) wind up on the radio in regular rotation on the area's biggest Rock station 96.3 WROV. The band played constantly in support of it's record and through it's association with Buzz Casey and WROV was able to open up for quite a few National acts like Government Mule, Storyville, Foghat, Loverboy, Johnny Winter, Matchbox 20 and many more!!! The band played and enjoyed success for the next 5 years and in 2000 everyone went their own musical ways. Hurley had been singing on the side for a Blues band called Blues Hangover from 96 to 98 and traveled quite a bit with them, winning several Blues Contests and traveling to Memphis, TN in 97 to compete in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge. It was a great learning experience. In 2001 Hurley wound up joining The Fat Daddy Band and that very same year went down and won the Charlotte Blues Society's contest and in 2002 went to Memphis again to represent them at the IBC and made it to the finals (one of ten bands out of 150). For the next 14 years he would front that band and continue to write songs. He put out 2 cd's with The Fat Daddy Band - “From The Soul”(2003) and “Live & Lovin' It!”(2005).

Because name me another pod out there that doesn't stick to just one sport. I'm waiting….still waiting…as the latest podcast has arrived! On deck: (7:08) OKC won a Game 7 that they had to have as they advance to play the Timberwolves. While the Knicks romp in closing out the Celtics in Game 6 (I think their fans are still celebrating it) I'll preview T'wolves-Thunder & Pacers-Knicks as the West will tip off tomorrow night. I'll also share my thoughts on the WNBA season commencing on Saturday. There's already a Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese controversy to discuss? (37:34) The Maple Leafs collapsed yet again, losing to the Panthers in Game 7. Should the organization blow up the team? Add Winnipeg to the list of teams that won the President's Trophy without capturing a title as they lose in six to Dallas. And the Capitals fall way short of the Cup Finals after losing to the Hurricanes in five. I'll preview Panthers-Hurricanes & Oilers-Stars and what Final would be the most attractive? (54:59) Juan Soto's return to The Bronx was forgetful as the Mets lose two out of three to the Yankees. The shocking Twins 13 game winning streak, which was snapped yesterday in Milwaukee.

Einon's Journal Summary: After settling our affairs in the city, our locomotive hurried us on our way to the edges of the Aether Swamps. I admit to a fair bit of motion sickness on our journey. I think my feet prefer solid ground. Kade tinkered with an ingenious notion to make Sme's travel more feasible through the bog.
