The Oklahoma City Thunder dominated the regular season and now enter the playoffs as one of the favorites to win the West thanks to MVP candidate Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. For nearly two decades, the Thunder have been one of the unlikeliest success stories in NBA history. In the win-now-at-all-costs superteam era, the Thunder have prioritized building for the future. In the era of superstars dictating their own moves to major media markets, the Thunder have thrived in one of the smallest markets in pro sports.  In Blood and Thunder, a special feature from the Ringer Podcast Network, Brian Phillips is joined by his fellow Oklahoma native Tyler Parker to talk about where the Thunder have been and where they're going, why this year's team is so fun to watch, and what the franchise means to Oklahoma. We're also joined by Jordan Ritter Conn, the host of the podcast Sonic Boom: How Seattle Lost Its Team, to talk about the legacy of the team's move from Seattle and whether a new Sonics franchise could help put the ghosts of the past to rest. Certain names linger on the lips of ardent Seattle fans who still rock Supersonics Green & Gold: Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. Detlef Schrempf and Nate McMillan. Ray Allen and Kevin Durant… Players who evoke wistfulness and nostalgia. Other names bring notes of bitterness, and regret for Sonics faithful: Howard Schultz. The man who sold the team… And Clay Bennett – the man who bought them and soon moved them to Oklahoma City. The team pulled up stakes 16 years, five months, and 12 days ago … but who's counting? Why are many Seattle-ites still hung up on the team that broke their hearts nearly two decades ago? And what REALLY went wrong to make Seattle lose its NBA franchise? Most lifelong fans could spin their version of events … but the one we’re asking also happens to be an award-winning journalist and the host of a podcast called “Sonic Boom: How Seattle Lost its Team.” The show was recently re-released by The Ringer, and it remains relevant for anyone who wants to understand the history of the NBA in Seattle and when and how the Sonics could return. In the nearly 7-year history of Live On 4 Legs, there are only 4 states which have had Pearl Jam shows that we have yet to cover - Arkansas, Iowa, Rhode Island, and now we can officially cross Oklahoma off of that list. The Oklahoma City show from 2022 was the penultimate show of the Gigaton tour. After a year's long battle dealing with band members getting covid and Ed having throat problems that forced cancelations, the end of the September leg was a huge celebration and a relief for being able to get through the final leg unscathed. This OKC show emphasizes the kind of fun and comraderie that radiates from the stage whenever the band is feeling spirited. Some of the topics we'll dig into for this one include the debut of Garden as a show opener, whether a song like Alright will ever get a shot in a setlist again, our outpouring love for Hard To Imagine, the band no longer upset that their city stole the Sonics, getting distracted by a hot dog, Corduroy closing a main set, if Go needs to go, and best of all - a truck full of vibrators! We'll also preview the brand new Live On 4 Legs tour documentary entitled God's Dice, A Pearl Jam Tour Story about the canceled shows in May of 2022.
