Ep 260 “The CottageCore AR-15” – National Gun Violence Awareness Month (Bullet Poof Bulletins) Celebrating the launch of eco-fiction anti-gun novella Bullet Poof and National Gun Violence Awareness Month, Avis Kalfsbeek brings back beloved Kitty O'Compost with the Bullet Poof Bulletins. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost deconstructs a truly bizarre update from the suburban backyard horticultural circuit. This bulletin satirizes an absolute logistical stir on Magnolia Lane, where a resident attempted a social experiment by bringing a highly customized rifle platform—the CottageCore AR-15—to a neighborhood garden club meeting. Refinished in matte sage green with hand-painted floral engravings and a custom tweed shoulder strap, the weapon was placed right next to heirloom tomato seedlings in an effort to launder an industry of fear by wrapping it in a cozy Pinterest aesthetic. Inspired by the grounding, collaborative themes of Bullet Poof, this episode laughs at this astonishing piece of self-delusion and reminds us that true safety is found when we stop investing in the profit of pain and start building relaxed community connection. Tonight on the Spoke-Easy stage, Kitty O'Compost shines a spotlight on the ridiculous intersection of suburban yard care and borrowed military authority. This bulletin satirizes a local homeowner who uses a paramilitary-styled "Dad Patrol" lawnmower to manufacture a sense of tactical command on his front lawn. Inspired by the connective and grounded themes of Bullet Poof, this episode exposes how commercialized security culture breeds isolation and reminds us of the true safety found when we choose open, friendly neighborly connection over manufactured armor. With this being a holiday weekend, I was determined to do a very listener-friendly “fun” episode. Of course, when I say listener-friendly, I’m not talking about the sort of nonsense on commercial radio. Not, what that means for The Ledge is the sort of legendary bands and songs that all Ledge listeners enjoy…or should. The actual theme came together this past Sunday when I was listening to the first Stiff Little Fingers album, Inflammable Material. It was at that moment that I decided that I was only going to listen to debut albums this week. That idea naturally transformed into a theme for tonight’s show. There’s nothing but the first full-length releases of 70’s punk rock bands. These are primarily records that impacted me in a way that few records of the next 45 years would. From that first Ramones album that arrived at my house when I was suffering from the chicken pox through not only the true legends of that era to a record I purchased simply because I loved that the band was called The Drones. Obviously, this is a theme that I will return to quite often in the next few months. I mean, come on, […]

S9E19 went out live from the TSORR Studio on Myoli Beach on 30 Apr 2026 at 18h00 on Bulldogs Radio. The show marks the anniversary of the passing of my Border Collie Jaxxy, who was my ever-present companion for 13 years. Without getting carried away, the show respectfully paid tribute to this most special boy. We had new releases from Foo Fighters, The Pretty Reckless, Sepultura, and At the Gates, and the Diabolical Challenge was particularly diabolical, featuring Guns N' Roses, Metallica, Boston, and Van Halen. S9E12 went out live from the TSORR Studio on Myoli Beach on 19 Mar 2026 at 19h00 on Bulldogs Radio. It was a great show, upbeat and full of fun, despite the drama that seems to surround us these days. The sad passing of Motörheads Phil Campbell at the age of 64 took me by surprise, so we paid our respects to Phil. I had a great interview with Mark Biagio of the Fismits and listened to his brand-new track, which is being released on 20 March, so check that out. I also played some more Springbok Nude Girls to make amends for last week. Dan Patlansky featured on the new Ruff Majik track. I call this Metal Dan, and I love it. The diabolical challenge was fun with the hard rock heroes Gary Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Marino, and Ted Nugent, and we chilled out nicely with Pink Floyd's masterpiece 'Time' in the Immortals slot. La emisión de este capítulo es próximo al Saint Patrick´s Day. Interview by Angela CroudaceFresh off the release of his latest single Relapse, Sydney singer-songwriter Hayden McGoogan is writing from a place of hard-won clarity. Penned just after a month into sobriety, the stripped-back track captures a fragile headspace: doing well, but fearing it could all unravel. “It's not about relapsing,” he explains. “It's about hoping I don't.”Recorded live with a full band, including pedal steel, piano and violin, Relapse deliberately resists the urge to rush. The restrained tempo mirrors recovery itself; staying present, letting things breathe. For McGoogan, sobriety lifted a creative fog. Songs began pouring out after a period where he “just didn't have the brain capacity” to write.Over the years, Hayden has shared stages with some formidable names, experiences that have quietly shaped his outlook on longevity and authenticity. From the Celtic punk fire of Flogging Molly to the thunderous hard rock charge of Danko Jones and the trailblazing Belfast punk spirit of Stiff Little Fingers, McGoogan has witnessed firsthand what it takes to hold a crowd. He's also played alongside punk royalty Marky Ramone and CJ Ramone — a full-circle moment for a musician raised on that era's raw urgency. Watching seasoned performers command a room night after night confirmed for McGoogan that connection, not spectacle, is what turns a gig into something unforgettable.Known for his raw, raspy vocal edge, he now leans into vulnerability over perfection. Influenced by artists like Social Distortion and Jason Isbell, McGoogan sits somewhere between grit and brutal honesty. With an EP set for release on March 28, his mission is simple: be authentic. “Worst thing than failing,” he says, “is not trying.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

This week we travel back in time to just after the dawn of PUNK ROCK (1978-1981)! We discuss bands influenced by the 1st wave who then took punk into various sub-genres. If you don't think Punk is for you based on secondhand information, we ask that you listen with an open mind and prepare to get out some aggression. This episode features songs with the shortest track length that we've ever played; it's PUNK ROCK people! Punk is where Kevin started down his path of music fanaticism. Although, that was more based around the hardcore Punk scenes. This is the lead-up to hardcore, and what would establish punk as a lasting genre full of variety and originality. Hope you dig the 2nd wave!Songs this week include:The Dictators – “Faster And Louder” from Blood Brothers (1978)Magazine – “Shot By Both Sides” from Real Life (1978)Chelsea – “I'm On Fire” from Chelsea (1979)The Stranglers – “Dead Loss Angeles” from The Raven (1979)GG Allin – “One Man Army” from Always Was, Is, And Always Shall Be (1980)Zounds – “Can't Cheat Karma” from Curse Of The Zounds (1980)Soggy – “Waiting For The War” from Soggy (1981)The Cheifs – “Liberty” from Holly-West Crisis (1981)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it: InObscuria Store
It is a privilege to welcome six-time Emmy-nominated filmmaker Alan G. Parker to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Before becoming a filmmaker, Alan worked as a press officer via Judy Totton Publicity and later in EMI's catalogue department in London. At EMI, he worked with bands such as Buzzcocks, Stiff Little Fingers, and the Stranglers. He also wrote for magazines and published books about the Clash and Sid Vicious. In 2009, Alan directed Who Killed Nancy? And Monty Python: Almost the Truth – The Lawyers' Cut was nominated for six Emmy Awards. In 2017, he directed the documentary It was Fifty Years Ago Today! The Beatles: Sgt. Pepper & Beyond! Alan G. Parker's latest documentary, Borrowed Time: Lennon's Last Decade, focuses on music legend John Lennon's final years. The film follows the former Beatle as he navigates through the band's breakup while creating revolutionary music and standing at the forefront of anti-war protests that would make him one of the most influential pop culture icons of all-time. Hear musicians, journalists, and the man's close friends set the record straight on the truth behind many famous Lennon moments brought to life by rare archive footage, including never-before-seen interviews. For the first time, the full story of how John and Yoko met is revealed, and watch as the curtain is lifted on the 1981 comeback tour that never came to be. This monumental film is a must-see for Lennon, Beatles, and music fans. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Alan G. Parker took us behind the scenes about Borrowed Time's filmmaking process, including the insights he found from the documentary interview subjects who had interacted with John during that time. Borrowed Time: Lennon's Last Decade will be released in theatres on May 2, 2025. Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

After a short lapse, the Bums are back in the rail yard with S4:E109, where the top knot kicks off with an 2024 NFL Draft report card and schedule review; rebounded with playoff NBA action reviews; the oldest living former MLB player, Art Shallock hits 100 years old, powered by martinis; Paddy “only” needs 48 pale hose wins to cash-in; Sherzer has ump fever on the wings of Angel Hernandez; NFL “kicker” Harrison Butler is a neanderthal Opus Dei extremist (good luck with that); and close the first half with a warning — Don't Fuck with Augusta (or HoF green jackets). The ponytail kicks off with another world famous Bums beer review, this time with a creation from Crown Point, IN's very own Off Square Brewing and “Veranda Weather” (6.5% ABV), a decent IPA that is on the lighter side with a nice, vanilla finish; two live music reviews are recounted with Stiff Little Fingers at Chicago's Metro, and Devo at Chicago's Riviera venue; garage sale season is upon us; Paddy gifts Eddie his cache of crooked sticks; the Oracle of Cupertino helps people find their way; Rocky's new 100 volume set is available, entitled “Times I Was Right and Nobody Listened”; the universe lost another good one (respect Denver Dave); and close with another Paddy report — ‘Wake up NYC and Chicago'. Grab all of this grandeur by the tail, before it's too late. Recorded on May 16th, 2024 at B.O.M.'s global headquarters, Paddy's Southside Cave, in Chicago, IL
Stiff Little Fingers hits the road for their final U.S. tour next month, and that run will find the band at Metro on Friday May 10. The legendary Irish band was there at the beginning of punk rock, burning bright for six years before breaking up (eventually restarting in 1987). Stiff Little Fingers frontman Jake Burns joined me virtually for this chat that covers everything from the beginnings of the band through today. It's legend time again around here at the LIFERS podcast. Of all the bands to emerge from the punk explosion of the late ‘70s, few were as adept at fusing melody and fury in quite the same way that the great Stiff Little Fingers were. Seminal in every way, SLF would go on to influence Naked Raygun, Green Day, and pretty much every punk band that ever cared to carry a tune. This week we welcome the voice of that band —a one Mr. Jake Burns— to tell us about growing up in Belfast, seeing Rory Gallagher on TV, soccer, getting a call from Pete Townsend, touring with the Tom Robinson Band, Eric Clapton and Rock Against Racism, soccer, KT's Kids, Sir Kenny Branagh, moving to Chicago, moving to West Virginia, soccer, and how to cut down on touring without quitting.
