In March 2025, IMRO hosted an in-person panel discussion moderated by music journalist Zara Hedderman – featuring Bekah Molony (Celaviedmai, Negro Impacto), Conor Cusack (Morgana, Saint Sister), and Gavin Elsted (Silverbacks). In an ever-changing industry, artist managers continue to provide a vital role in developing emerging artists and helping them sustain their career. This talk shed light on the relationship between artists and management, uncovering how the two work together. What do managers look for in an emerging artist? How do they build a career strategy for the artists they represent? How do they protect the best interest of their artists? This talk presented vital information for artists considering working with a manager and how to develop their career in the music industry.Bekah Molony is the head of D07 Artists, a Dublin based artist management, bookings and live event agency that represents and works with some of Ireland's most exciting talent. She is also the founder of Mo Cultivation, a community that focuses on ‘creating, connecting and celebrating' urban culture and Irish artists through events, content and community initiatives. With an undergrad in Event Management, a Masters in Emerging Media and as a Keychange alumni, Bekah's successful music industry career also includes programming exciting projects for brands and sharing knowledge as an industry speaker as she continues to create opportunities for the current and future creatives of Ireland. With over 15 years of experience working in the music industry, Conor Cusack has held a variety of roles across the independent sectors in Dublin, Berlin, and London. He brings his experience in music retail, recorded music, live, event production, product management, charity, and arts consultancy to his long standing career as an artist manager. Conor has managed artists professionally for over 10 years, both independently and as part of London based management firm ie:music. In 2023, he set up his own business, No Bother, a boutique Artist Management & Music Consultancy business. No Bother was set up to oversee the careers of a small number of highly progressive, and forward-thinking artists (Morgana, Saint Sister) and work closely with a small number of consultancy clients to help them achieve their creative and commercial goals. In his spare time he makes techno and plays in an Indie band called DIVIL.Gavin Elsted is an artist manager, label owner and DJ from Newbridge. He manages Choice Prize-nominated Silverbacks and oversees day to day operations at their Central Tones record label. Autumnal gloom has set in and the only way is down after Zara Hedderman's all-timer of a Top 5 on the previous episode, right? WRONG! Despite the astounding heights of that aforementioned T5, we're keeping the energy supercharged with the returning Max Zanga, present in-studio as a representative of mysterious rising solo talent Filmore!, who definitely is a different person than Max, honest. The new Filmore! EP is called Idle Death Gamble and it's really very good indeed, and so we talk about that and the overall project at large. Elsewhere, we've got a truly nonsensical Top 5, and a grab-bag of news to get through...And don't forget to hit up patreon.com/noencore, we've got a new Film Club episode dropping this Sunday, all about sweaty and problematic 1993 thriller Falling Down.ACT ONE: The preamble in which we ramble. ACT TWO: Filmore! in conversation. Kinda. ACT THREE (31:54): News! Robert Smith bashes Oasis, Taylor Swiftonomics keeps on churning out the goods, Donald Trump reveals his megamix, Atomic Kitten are still a thing, and some words for the late, great Ka. Welcome back to Aquarium Drunkard Transmissions. This week on the program, we are pleased to welcome guest host Zara Hedderman and singer/songwriter Chris Cohen to the show to a generous, expansive, and genuine conversation. Cohen's new record is called Paint a Room. His fourth solo album—perhaps you know his work with Deerhoof, The Curtains, Cryptacize, Ariel Pink, Cass Mccombs, and Weyes Blood and more—it finds Cohen pairing with musical heavyweights like Jeff Parker and Josh Johnson, laying a sheen of ‘70s breeziness over top of Cohen's remarkable compositions. In this wide-ranging chat, they discuss the new album, years spent working in record stores, Transcendental Meditation, The Grateful Dead, and much more. It's an open and tender conversation, full of funny moments and deep insight. Aquarium Drunkard is supported by our subscribers. Today's episode is about "Scott Walker: 30 Century Man", from 2006, directed by Stephen Kijak. Our guest today is Zara Hedderman, who listens to albums & writes (mostly) & talks (sometimes) about them in The Quietus, Aquarium Drunkard, Northern Transmissions, RTÉ Arena, and The IMRO Podcast. The movie is about Scott Walker, who evolved from a 50s & 60s teen idol to an enigmatic avant-garde icon whose music pushed the boundaries of space, time, and sanity. For years, nobody knew much about him. Then this documentary came out and revealed that he was actually kind of a chill dude. NO ENCORE returns bring an opposing approach to a pandemic-era Top 5 with a list of cover songs that for whatever reason have eclipsed their original form, and who better to join take you on this voyage than your faithful host Dave Hanratty, trusty Sonic Architect Adam, and reigning NE Quiz Champion Zara Hedderman. Listeners of the show will know Zara best for her aforementioned accolade, or for her freelance writing on Pitchfork and The Guardian amongst others, or from her regular appearances on RTÉ's Arena (sometimes alongside Dave, much to her chagrin). On this episode, however, she brings with her a list of her favourite re-imaginings of songs and will take us through what makes them better than their past form. And if that's not enough of a hook for the episode, there's some ABSOLUTE FILTH in the news section. To wrap up the year, we look back at the cultural highlights of 2023 and look forward to what is to come in 2024 in films, books, TV and music with our panel of experts John Maguire, Sinéad Gleeson, Jenn Gannon and Zara Hedderman.
To call Taylor Swift simply a pop singer is to miss the point. She's a one woman global phenomenon; the 34 year-old is the first musician ever to become a billionaire solely based on her songs and performances. And yet it's her relatability that her fans love so much. When her Eras Tour hits town – any town – its economic impact is so powerful that a new word has been coined: Swiftenomics. In 2024 she'll be bringing it to Ireland, to Croke Park. So how did it happen for the pop queen who started out as a teenager singing country. Music journalist Zara Hedderman explains just why Time magazine named Taylor Swift its person of the year and how she has become, what it calls, “the main character of the world”. Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

The stakes are high for Ed Sheeran this week in a Manhattan courtroom. The family of the late Ed Townsend claim that the singer's 2014 hit song Thinking Out Loud infringes the copyright of Marvin Gaye's 1973 hit Let's Get it On – which Townsend co-wrote. Sheeran and his co-writer Amy Wadge reject the claim in its entirety. Music journalist Zara Hedderman teases out the prosecution's case, the defence, and the major implications for other songwriters. Presented by Bernice Harrison. Produced by Suzanne Brennan. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
