Ariel Pink was exiled from the indie and punk scenes simply for supporting President Trump, abandoned by the same counterculture that once embraced him. Like Roseanne, he wasn't given the trendy, surface-level "cancellation" but was genuinely cast out. Self-described as a creator of “Hipster Trash,” Ariel is often credited as the godfather of hypnagogic pop and chillwave. Love him or hate him, there's no denying he's a fascinating artist to listen to.   ARIEL PINK:   https://arielxpink.com   https://x.com/arielxpink   https://www.youtube.com/@arielxpink   https://www.instagram.com/arielxpink ------------------------------------------------ Sponsored By: Republican Red Winery: Go to https://www.republicanred.com and select your favorite 100% American made wine that ships directly to your doorstep. On this edition of Parallax Views, Creamhound's Walker and Z. Behl joins the show to discuss their TrueAnon-approved, controversy-stirring, and darkly humorous board game Storm the Capitol. Described cheekily as "Insurrection in a Box!", Storm the Capitol allows you to relive the madness of the January 6th Capitol attack as either a MAGA "patriot" that needs to help Donald Trump "Stop the Steal" or a member of the Capitol police trying to stop them. Needless to say, some have been offended by the game, even assuming that it's a pro-MAGA board game. A look at the game, however, reveals that it's a satirical poke-in-the-eye to our politics-as-pro-wrestling media circus spectacle with its darkly, even gallows-esque, sense of humor rather than an endorsement of MAGA or the January 6th insurrection. We'll discuss the game, its mechanics, how it came to be during the days of the pandemic, the reactions to and controversy stirred up by the game, the lameness of moral tut-tutting about the game, the influence of punk rock on the game, and some of the game's jokes about QAnon, MAGA's alleged obsession with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez's feet, indie rockers (cough... Ariel Pink... cough) who participate in the January 6th Capitol attack, the QAnon shaman, and more. Yes, a lot of horrible things happened on January 6th. But it was also a day where a guy dressed in face paint carrying a spear and animal headdress stormed the capitol building. It was like something out of a David Lynch movie. A completely surreal, absurd moment in American history. And there's something darkly comical about that absurdity. Which is what made it perfect fodder for a satirical board game. We'll discuss all that and much more on this edition of the show.

Cohen's new record is called Paint a Room. His fourth solo album—perhaps you know his work with Deerhoof, The Curtains, Cryptacize, Ariel Pink, Cass Mccombs, and Weyes Blood and more—it finds Cohen pairing with musical heavyweights like Jeff Parker and Josh Johnson, laying a sheen of ‘70s breeziness over top of Cohen's remarkable compositions.  In this wide-ranging chat, they discuss the new album, years spent working in record stores, Transcendental Meditation, The Grateful Dead, and much more.   I've been following the rise of Khruangbin since 2018 when they released their album "Con Todo El Mundo." Khruangbin is a musical trio that mixes global influences, including Thai funk, soul, psychedelia, and surf rock, into their mostly instrumental music. The New York Times has described their sound as "extremely slippery, genrewise." It's been crazy to watch them go from relative obscurity to a band that now has nearly 8 million monthly listeners on Spotify. III)", as well as the unabridged index of the mountain of circumstantial evidence we've collected to support our theory that Prince Lobkowicz was assassinated by aristocratic Aryan race car assassins: patreon.com/ParaPowerMapping ... You can also find the full episode on the Things Observed Patreon—make sure to support Luke's work, as well. The ongoing PPM + Things Observed collab investigation into Erik Jan Hanussen is back, this time w/ a mammoth installment that takes us into some pretty “spicey” places, to use Luke's phrasing. We're going on a deeeeep, forensic dive into Hanussen's Grand Prix-diction—the prophecy that EJH delivered the night before the AVUS Race in Berlin in a club filled w/ Nazi & British aristocratic Formula One racers, in which he foretold both the winner of the race & the fiery death of Prince Lobkowicz that would occur the following day… Specifically, we're zeroing in on the reams of circumstantial evidence that seem to indicate a conspiracy by elements of the Nazi party & German military to assassinate the Prince, either thru mechanical sabotage or vehicular manslaughter, and the likelihood that Hanussen's prophecy was either a decoy to distract the public from the conspiracy at the behest of the Nazis or else a final & possibly reckless attempt to warn the Prince off from driving in the race, an extension of Hanussen's role as an intel asset for the British. Regardless of these varying interpretations for the motivations behind Hanussen's prophecy, I think you'll find that the evidence we've pulled together that indicates this potential conspiracy & cover-up is pretty compelling. Especially fascinating are the surveys of the familial histories of the Prussian noble family of military careerists & the old Czech Catholic noble fam of Habsburgian allies who take center stage in the narrative via their respective descendants who took their places at AVUS on that fateful day—one would leave draped in bouquets, the other in a body bag. I have to cut the notes a little short bc I only get so many characters, so make sure to check out the Patreon post. And then, in the latter portion of the EP, we contend w/ Hanussen's numerous connections to Zionist elements & the fact that, during the same journey throughout the Levant & North Africa that saw him become an intel asset & likely meet Aleister Crowley, he also toured Mandatory Palestine w/ “high Zion*st officials”—which forces us to update our list of alternating theories of Hanussen w/ a 4th option, one where Hanussen was, at the deepest level, a Zion*st at heart & loyal to the Zionist project... Atho there appears to be a relative dearth of info regarding his Zionist ties when compared to others, a Zi*nist angle can function as a sort of unifying theory for EJH, as it would account for his infiltration of both Nazi & British intelligence (as evinced by the Zi*nists' double-dealings w/ both the Nazis & Britain & their vacillating allegiances during the early 20th century). We also end w/ a quick note about the importance of holding the ambiguities & seemingly contradictory info regarding Hanussen's life in one's mind simultaneously when examining him—as well as resisting the urge to try & force his life to conform to some singular motivational & psychological schema. And finally, in light of the ongoing tragedy in Palestine, we also consider some of the historical valences & current examples of Zion*st collaboration w/ fascists, from Nazis like Adolf Eichmann to the arming of the Az*v Battalion. There's plenty more beyond this, but I've probably maxxed out the notes to an extreme degree already, so we'll leave it there.  Songs: | Ghostface Killah - "Assassination Day" | | George Harrison - "Faster" | | Ariel Pink - "Kinski Assassin" |

Before January 6th, 2021, and the Capitol attack, insurrection, riots, or whatever you want to call it, Ariel Pink was a critically adored indie rock musician, who, in my humble opinion, made some of the most interesting records of the modern era. Afterwards? Not so much. He wasn't actually part of the riots, but that doesn't matter in a world where truth is at a premium, and in the year and then some that has followed, he's lost his record label, his fanbase, and to all extents and purposes his career. I don't share the same politics as Ariel – not on party lines, anyway – and I don't agree with everything he says, but I do believe in his right to say it, to think it, and to have a career that isn't blighted by mobs and misinformation. I first reached out to Ariel early last year, to see if he'd speak to me for my Shame project – episodes from which you can hear if you scroll back on the feed to this podcast. He wasn't interested. But then, after hearing him talk of Bridget Phetasy's ever interesting Walk-Ins Welcome podcast, I tried again, and finally we connected to talk about… well, all sorts of things. Trump, the Clintons, Ukraine, Kanye West, cancel culture, and what his first Hotmail address was. This is an interesting if sometimes batshit conversation, and I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed having it.Join the Substack!

Ariel Pink is an American musician, singer, songwriter and indie rock icon. However, his attendance at the January 6th Trump rally at the White House - an event he would like made very clear in its distinction from the violence at the Capitol hours later - led to his subsequent cancellation among fellow musicians and fans alike, being dropped from his music label, and left him looking around bewildered, wondering what happened. He and Bridget talk about how the rules have changed on everyone, why you should have to be pro United States to be eligible for President, why he believes he's more liberal than anyone that cancelled him, his theory about the last election, what keeps him grounded, what his plans for the furture are, and why he'd rather be put in jail and serve some time than be cancelled, because there's no expiration date to it. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Dean Friedman, Singer / Songwriter /Author About Harvey's guest: Today's guest, Dean Friedman, is a singer-songwriter who burst onto the music scene in 1977 with his irresistible hit single, “Ariel”.   Since then he's had numerous hit singles including “Woman of Mine”, “Lucky Stars”, “Lydia”, “Rocking Chair” and “McDonald's Girl”.  He's recorded 19 terrific albums, including “Well, Well, Said the Rocking Chair”, “The Treehouse Journals”, “Submarine Races”, “Squirrels in the Attic”, “Words and Music”, “12 Songs” and one of my personal favourites, “Dean Friedman in Concert: Shepherd's Bush Empire”.     His latest album, entitled “American Lullaby”, is a collection of deeply moving and thought-provoking songs reflecting our guest's personal reflections and philosophies about the current state of America.   His songs fearlessly touch on a broad range of topics, including the pandemic, the environment, racism, sexism, and of course, the calamity surrounding American politics.    His songs have been covered by bands including The Barenaked Ladies, Ben Folds Five, Ariel Pink, The Tone Rangers, and The Blenders.  He's written, performed and produced the theme music to several TV series including Boon, Nick Arcade, and Eerie, Indiana. He also composed, performed and produced the soundtrack to the 1990 cult horror film, “I Bought a Vampire Motorcycle”, in which he performs the popular track, "She Runs on Blood, Not Gasoline".   And if THAT weren't enough, this exceptionally multi-talented man wrote a groundbreaking book on synthesizers, as well as a guide to songwriting, and a hilarious book entitled, “A Musician's Guide to Surviving the Great Recession”.  And he's even dabbled in the world of video games.  For more interviews and podcasts go to: https://www.harveybrownstoneinterviews.com/ https://www.deanfriedman.com/http://www.facebook.com/DeanFriedmanMusic http://www.twitter.com/deanfriedman http://www.youtube.com/deanfriedmanhttps://open.spotify.com/artist/4IT7iUyEDGX4pJDo6CfFRBhttps://itunes.apple.com/artist/3546224 #DeanFriedman   #harveybrownstoneinterviews

If you collect vinyl, you understand the power of tangible, physical media. You know the thrill of finding a new record, staring at the cover art, pouring through the liner notes, and, of course, the disc itself. Holding sound. Looking at the grooves, the labels, the wax. The record is truly a piece of art far beyond the music contained within. There is perhaps no one who practices this craft with more skill and dedication than Michael Dixon. Based out of Tucson, Arizona, Mike expands the boundaries of vinyl art through creativity, collaboration, and innovation. He views a vinyl record as a blank canvas which will hold unique one-of-a-kind artifacts that are both beautiful and will play music for perpetuity. Drawing from lifelong loves of education, records, outsider art, and re-purposing junk, Mike uses 1940s record cutting lathe machines to handcraft sonic objects. He has made records out of up-cycled plexiglass, laser discs, picnic plates, cd-rs (playable on both turntable and standard CD player), mirrors, place mats, x-rays, and even 90% cacao chocolate. He has made records that use multiple sides, holes, groove patterns, locked grooves, and overlapping or concentric circles. He has made records that are absurdly entertaining and visually stunning. On top of this, he runs a record label called People In a Position to Know that focuses on putting out records by artists that he believes in and records that are as individual as the bands. He has made ultra-limited releases for a huge range of big name indie artists like The Flaming Lips, Dr Dog, Ariel Pink, Mike Watt, the Microphones, and Grandaddy as well as making essential music available to fans from bands that you should know like The Graves, Sugar Candy Mountain, and Golden Boots. He has also put out music by several of this podcast's favorite artists including Wooden Wand, Simon Joyner, and Luna. Oh and when he's not doing that, he does short run lathe cuts for bands, fixes lathe machines, is a DJ specializing in private press and bizarro honky tonk, and, coolest of all, educates kids at schools and libraries about the science behind sound and the evolution of sound recording.   We were fortunate enough to spend some time with Mike talking about his passion and his art as well as some mutual interests.
