Just a heads-up – this episode contains references to alleged sexual assault and may not be suitable for everyone, so please take care when listening. Jared Leto is an Oscar winner, a rock star, a cult leader and now the focus of serious questions. The 54-year-old has been seen onscreen in the likes of Fight Club, American Psycho, and Blade Runner 2049, while also finding the time to tour the world with his band Thirty Seconds to Mars. But a BBC investigation has revealed an array of allegations against the actor, with a new documentary presenting the accounts of 10 different accusers. The allegations against Leto span more than a decade and include claims of sexual assault, grooming and inappropriate behaviour with underage girls. Leto has categorically denied the claims. Is his gilded career in jeopardy or is the Hollywood of 2026 more comfortable overlooking such a scandal? On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Kevin Doyle is joined by Alice McShane, director of BBC documentary Jared Leto: Hollywood's Dark Secret, to hear how the investigation came together, and by the Irish Independent's Dave Hanratty to look at Jared Leto's career to date. This weekend's event will have plenty of eyes on it, but should Conor McGregor be allowed fight at all? Or granted a platform of this size to spread his views, for that matter? The Indo Daily

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 2, 2026 26:32

Despite an endless number of problems at home and overseas, Donald Trump and his United States of America are in a celebratory mood. The occasion? Trump's imminent 80th birthday, for one. There's also the small matter of the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence, or “Freedom 250”, if you're so inclined. Though the actual anniversary isn't until July 4, the White House – or more specifically, its south lawn – will play host to the Ultimate Fighting Championship on June 14 with a card that isn't quite what Trump promised some time ago. Still, there will be plenty of morbid curiosity, if nothing else. The event is estimated to cost the UFC around $60m (€52m), and it's not expected to turn a profit. No big deal, the organisation and its CEO Dana White already have plenty of riches, and though White swears he isn't political, he enjoys both a long-running friendship and professionally beneficial relationship with the leader of the free world. But why is Trump so enamoured by the UFC, and the significantly more choreographed WWE, for that matter? And has he deliberately moulded himself in the image of an entertainment-focused modern-day gladiator? On this episode of The Indo Daily, host Fionnán Sheahan is joined by freelance combat sports journalist Philip O'Connor and by the Irish Independent's Dave Hanratty, to look ahead to the big brawl at the White House. We want to earn your trust and are members of the Trust Project. Back in the late ‘90s when David Gray put pen to paper on the song Babylon, he probably didn't intend for the lines ‘Let go your heart / Let go your head' to be taken quite as literally as many modern-day revelers now seem to. Indeed, such was the overly rowdy atmosphere at Gray's recent Dublin show that the musician felt the need to take to social media to politely scold them. He told followers “I don't think I've ever heard the audience as, as rowdy as that, and bit outta control in a way”. Today on this episode of The Indo Daily, two “culture snobs” chat with Tabitha Monahan about declining public standards at concerts, the cinema, the theatre - just about anywhere.
