We are back for the ridiculously numbered 450th time doing this, we start with out of season horror offering now on Netflix 'Silent Night, Deadly Night', cinema trips to see the wholesome 'The Sheep Detectives' and the less wholesome but equally investing 'Father Mother Brother Sister', its then onto a couple of films that have found there way to Sky Cinema starting with romantic drama 'On Swift Horses' and we finish with new take on the zombie movie with 'We Bury The Dead'.

With International Day of Transgender Visibility being celebrated on March 31, we took the opportunity to spotlight ‘Homebodies’, a brand new digital series that is streaming now on SBS on Demand that highlights local trans and queer talent on screen and behind the scenes including its creator AP Pobjoy. Fresh from its selection for this year's prestigious Series Mania in France, ‘Homebodies’ stars Claudia Karvan, Luke Wiltshire and Jazi Hall, and follows Darcy, a trans man who reluctantly returns to his regional hometown to care for his estranged mother Nora. But home isn't as he left it. Nora has been living with a secret housemate: Dee, the teenage ghost of Darcy's pre-transition self. As old wounds resurface, Darcy must confront the parts of himself he tried to leave behind or risk losing himself entirely. The creator, lead-writer and one of the directors of the series is AP Pobjoy, a Sydney based creative who was in Lille, France when we spoke for Series Mania where ‘Homebodies’ had its world premiere. We discussed how they got into filmmaking, the importance of trans representation on our screens and much more. We also reviewed the latest film from indie American film director and musician Jim Jarmusch. ‘Father Mother Sister Brother’ is constructed in the form of a triptych and includes a beautiful performance from Indya Moore along with a cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Tom Waits and Adam Driver. The three stories all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. The film is described as a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy and is in Australian cinemas from April 2nd. The post Homebodies with special guest AP Pobjoy plus Father Mother Sister Brother review appeared first on Out Takes.

In seinem 14.
Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Listen in for our thoughts on Gus van Sant's 70s crime thriller, Mark Jenkin's existential fishing boat time-hopper, Pauline Loquès' small but well-formed debut drama, and Jim Jarmusch's award-winning ‘parents eh what are they like' anthology. As current events tell us, life—at times—is strange. And one of the most dependable movie themes involves characters who act strangely. On this week's show, Dan Webster, Nathan Weinbender and Mary Pat Treuthart discuss two films peopled by characters who don't act in manners that most of us would consider, for want of a better term, normal.
Ever felt like you're doing everything and still being told you're “lucky”? Let's name what culture keeps invisible: the mother and father wounds that train women to carry the emotional and mental load while men are praised for “helping.” Digging into how these patterns form, why your nervous system might read imbalance as normal, and what it takes to build fair, loving homes without martyrdom.I share how “we never argue” can hide suppression, why repair beats perfection, and how trained tolerance stealthily shapes who we choose and how we relate. We talk about weaponised incompetence, the praise economy that centres men for basics, and the subtle scripts that teach children Dad rests and Mum compensates. Then we move to solutions: shifting from “just tell me what to do” to proactive noticing, running weekly logistics councils, auditing the mental load, and raising kids who see and act. This is trauma-aware work, with space for nuance if anger once meant danger; we practise boundaries, co-regulation, and small wins that compound. You'll hear a reframe on healthy feminine and masculine energies as capacities we all hold—attunement and structure, receptivity and initiation—used not to excuse imbalance but to create presence, accountability, and ease. Awakening can be messy and grief-filled, yet it opens room for better agreements and genuine reciprocity. If you're ready to stop tolerating what drains you and start building a household where contribution is shared and seen, this conversation is your map. If it resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a review.More from me at KirstyDee.comText the show. Ask a question

What's good at the movies this week? Let's discuss...
Today on KIOS at the Movies, host Joshua LaBure reviews the new film “Father Mother Sister Brother” and his favorite films of last year “A Traveler's Needs.”
In the very adult comic drama "Is This Thing On?" Will Arnett plays a man who tries out standup comedy as a way to cope with his impending divorce. Strong performances by Arnett and Laura Dern propel this empathetic tale, well directed by Bradley Cooper, who also has a funny supporting role. A number of noted comics appear as cynical versions of themselves. While fictional, the movie inspired by the true story of British standup comic Jim Bishop. Arnett's foul-mouthed comedy material isn't really all that funny but still rings true. "Is This Thing On?" should appeal to those not easily offended. What's really being said when estranged family members engage in awkward 'small talk?' Indie film darling Jim Jarmusch offers a suggestion in "Father Mother Sister Brother," three unrelated stories of family dysfunction. The strong cast includes Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling and Cate Blanchett. Surprisingly, this restrained and subtle drama was the big winner at the 2005 Venice Film Festival. The talented cast helps a lot, but “Father Mother Sister Brother” is one that will probably only appeal to fans of Jarmusch's slow, low-key style. Lucy Liu's impressive performance is the main draw of the excruciating true story "Rosemead" which is based on a 2017 article from the Los Angeles Times. Liu plays a widow suffering from terminal cancer who is forced to decide what to do with her teenage son who's struggling with schizophrenia. The intent is admirable, and the execution is competent enough. But “Rosemead” is a hard watch that offers no easy answers. It's tragic and depressing in equal measure.

This week we're excited to present a conversation from the 63rd New York Film Festival with Father Mother Sister Brother director Jim Jarmusch and cast members Adam Driver, Indya Moore, Luka Sabbat, Vicky Krieps, and Tom Waits. This conversation was moderated by NYFF Artistic Director Dennis Lim. The NYFF63 Centerpiece selection, Father Mother Sister Brother will open at Film at Lincoln Center on December 24. Get tickets at filmlinc.org/jarmusch For years, Jim Jarmusch has written, directed, and produced delicate, character-driven films. Winner of the Venice Film Festival Golden Lion, Father Mother Sister Brother is a perceptive study in familial dynamics, a feature film carefully constructed in the form of a triptych. The three chapters all concern the relationships between adult children reconnecting or coming to terms with aging or lost parents, which take place in the present, and each in a different country. Siblings Jeff and Emily (played by Adam Driver and Mayim Bialik) check up on their hermetic father (played by Tom Waits) in rural New Jersey; sisters Lilith and Timothea (Vicky Krieps and Cate Blanchett) reunite with their guarded novelist mother (Charlotte Rampling) in Dublin; and twins Skye and Billy (Indya Moore and Luka Sabbat) return to their Paris apartment to address a family tragedy. Father Mother Sister Brother is a kind of anti-action film, its subtle and quiet style carefully constructed to allow small details to accumulate—almost like flowers being carefully placed in three delicate arrangements. The 63rd New York Film Festival is presented in partnership with Rolex.
