It's been a great few years! Its time to consolidate all the projects I'm currently working.  Over the past year I've been working to move 5 minute sono, ultrasound podast and ultrasound of the week onto ONE website called www.coreultrasound.com.  This will be the last 5 minute sono podcast I'll be sending out on this channel, and it's a good one! Even if I work my fastest, it still takes me a few minutes to place my ultrasound-guided IV's. Because of this, I would rather not have to place multiple IV's when they pop out. I have a particular way of taping my IV's to make sure they don't come out. Check out my technique and let me know what you think! Its is absolutely necessary to switch to the linear transducer when looking for lung sliding (i.e., PTX)? While the linear will definitely give you the best image, watch this video to see my thoughts on using the curvilinear and even the phased array in the eval of lung sliding!  While continuing to my work with revamping the Ultrasound Leadership Academy's curriculum, I had this thought.  Maybe we don't need to switch every time?  Check it out! Figuring out if your patient will benefit from more IV fluid is paramount. The ultrasound assessment of volume responsiveness is a topic that is always full of controversy.  Here, I talk about one of the many techniques: LVOT VTI. 

When I'm eavesdropping on other peoples conversations at ultrasound courses, I often hear people talk about compressing the vessel you want to cannulate to make sure its a vein and not an artery (if you happen to be placing a peripheral IV).  Here's the thing: Peripheral arteries and veins can both be compressible.   I suggest looking for pulsitility instead of compressibility when trying to differentiate between the two.
