Polynomials are quintessential in machine learning for establishing relationships between outputs and inputs. However, there is also a field in cryptography which could not be made possible without polynomials - zero-knowledge technology. In zero-knowledge proof systems, computations are often represented as arithmetic circuits, and these circuits are translated into polynomials. This process is crucial for generating proofs that can demonstrate the correctness of computations without revealing the underlying data. The involved complexity explains the massive adoption hurdle for zk rollups compared to optimistic ones. Succinct aims to simplify the use of zero-knowledge proofs by providing a zkVM (SP1) that allows code written in languages like Rust to be proven in a privacy-preserving way. By doing so, it aims to lower the barrier to implementing zk-rollups and increase their adoption.Topics covered in this episode:Uma's background and her interest in zero knowledge techHow Succinct's story beganZK light clientsZK circuitsSP1 and the RISC-V instruction setThe prover networkUse casesZK rollups and commoditizing ZKPsIncentivizing proversSuccinct's business modelSupported blockchain applicationsBottlenecks in ZK adoptionSuccinct metricsSP1's competitive advantage and future roadmapThe real world impact of verifiabilityEpisode links:Uma Roy on XSuccinct on XSponsors:Gnosis: Gnosis builds decentralized infrastructure for the Ethereum ecosystem, since 2015. Episode 311 of RevolutionZ is not an election post-mortem. It is not about what went wrong. It is about what Trump is likely to do and what we can do to prevent his success. The episode takes up border policies, deportations, gender and reproductive rights, homelessness, healthcare, labor, ecology, repression, schools, media, military, and international relations--and a lot more. In each case, the episode considers what Trump is likely to pursue and what kinds of resistance can block his efforts. Succinct summaries are meant to assist and fuel thinking about  actions to undertake in the coming months. Put bluntly, the overarching message is that we can certainly do this, but if we don't, there will be hell to pay. Resignation and even angry by-standing are therefore not options. The kinds of activities described in the episode, however, are worthy options to consider. Support the show

The acceleration of ZK is happening at a rapid pace. Last week we covered the collaboration between Succinct and AggLayer on the proof generation side using SP1, a generalized ZKVM. Today, we're excited to share insights from our recent chat with RJ and Mauro from Aligned Layer, the other half to the ZK puzzle focused on verifying proofs. RJ and Mauro have deep roots in engineering and cryptography, originally honed at Lambda Class. Aligned is on a mission to accelerate the Ethereum roadmap. By making ZK proofs more accessible and affordable for developers, they are building out the first verification layer. We had a lot of questions for these guys. One of them was around Aligned's approach to verifcation with a stateless architecture, meaning they aren't building their own but instead focus solely on proof verification. We asked about centralization concerns and also managing their consensus as a network. They are doing this as an Eigenlayer AVS, utilizing the economic security of Ethereum. We also asked them straight up how many proofs per second they can verify currently and why their "complete verification" system is superior to others. We discussed why proof aggregation is so important to their setup as well. Towards the end, we discussed the ways Aligned is aiming to reduce the cost of reading proofs on Ethereum as well as developing more efficient aggregation methods. They are committed to integrating with the broader Ethereum ecosystem, working with LRT providers and other partners to enhance economic security and network adoption. Is ZK real? Unironically, this was the first question Robbie asked our guests Uma Roy, founder of Succinct & Brendan Farmer, co-founder of Polygon. If you've been following the latest developments in ZK (but not trademarked), you'll know that it is the closest thing to the endgame of crypto. However, you'll also know the progress has been somewhat slow as its not a trivial task to build zk circuits and logic. Enter: Succinct & generalizable ZKVMs. SP1 is the rust-based zkVM built Succinct allowing developers to write standard Rust code and leverage ZK technology seamlessly. Uma and co have been making insane strides in reducing the costs of generating zk proofs while other teams are meticulously working on proof verification improvements. We had the pleasure of exploring the collaboration between AggLayer and Succinct, which is using SP1 to bring practical zk to production. AggLayer is specifically designed to tackle Ethereum's fragmentation problem by enabling asset fungibility and low-latency interoperability across different L2 chains. The big innovation here is Plonky 3 as well as the idea behind Pessismistic proofs. Throughout this conversation, we explore how SP1 integrates with AggLayer, enhancing developer velocity and enabling seamless communication between different L2 chains, pessimistic proofs, the rise of rust-based ZKVMs, ZK for interoperability, and expanding the application space built atop of ZK. Join us for a technical conversation about a great collaborative effort to scale ZK and thus, the entire crypto space. Website: https://therollup.co/ Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1P6ZeYd.. In 1997, Derek Sivers (accidentally) started CD Baby, the largest distributor of independent music in the world. Ten years later, he sold the company for $22 million. What did he do with the money? Did he buy a Ferrari? A mansion? A private jet? He gave it all to charity. He then became a TED speaker and a writer. He's published 5 books: - Anything You Want (2011) -- Best business book I've ever read. - Your Music and People (2020) -- Best marketing book I've ever read. - Hell Yeah or No (2020) -- Best book on productivity and decision-making I've ever read. - How to Live (2021) -- Best book on life philosophies I've ever read. - Useful Not True (2024) -- Best book on beliefs I've ever read. The general idea and thesis we share is that we will see 1000s of appchains and the frameworks which are building for that future are in a good spot. In addition, we also believe there will be a ton of zkVMs (as introduced to us by Cem during this video) which will power rollups going forward. This is also part of our "we don't need any more traditional EVM, general purpose L2s" thesis. In today's video, were taking a closer look at Sovereign Labs. Sovereign is a project we've heard quite a bit about in the modular stack, which is builiding an SDK to launch zkRollups. Our discussion with the founder Cem Ozer, unpacks more of our thesis above. We started talking about Cem's reasoning behind the name "Sovereign Labs" and touched on the noisy neighbor problem which sovereign rollups solve. We went on to discuss how the Sovereign SDK utilizes Rust-based machines, is partnered with leading zkVM providers like Risc Zero & Succinct, interoperability baked in for every rollup within Sovereign, and how all of this leads to providing a great user experience. While we are particularly excited about Sovereign SDK, we managed to push back on some of the design choices such as not having their own underlying chain for distribution, and why a builder would choose the Sovereign SDK over a different stack like Cosmos SDK, OP stack, ZK stack and others. We also found a quick moment at the end to ask Cem about their plans to decentralize Sovereign Labs, and what that future may look like. Whether you are a developer, a power user, or a modularity enthusiast, learning about the Sovereign SDK and how builders are thinking about laying the ground work for the modular expansion is a worthy endeavor! Hello, everyone! It's Jenny Ponzuric here, and I'm delighted to have you listening in. Today, I'm thrilled to continue our discussion on effectively communicating evaluation results, a topic we began exploring a couple of weeks ago.  For those who may be new to my work, I'm Jenny Ponzuric, and I've been supporting students and schools in the field of school psychology for over two decades. Alongside my work in the field, I conduct various training sessions and am the proud founder of two online platforms, the Prepared School Psych Community and PSW Monthly, aimed at bolstering support for school psychologists like you. One aspect I'm particularly passionate about is improving how we convey evaluation results. While some of us excel in this area, many of us could benefit from enhancing our skills. I'm constantly striving to ensure that my verbal explanations are as helpful as possible to families. A key part of achieving this is by minimizing the use of jargon. In the realm of special education, we often find ourselves inundated with jargon, especially when discussing evaluation results. Terms like "fluid reasoning" or "conceptualization" can easily overwhelm families. While it's common to rely on jargon when we're unsure of how to explain concepts differently or fear being questioned, it's essential to recognize that excessive jargon can hinder understanding for families and students alike. Fortunately, we have a plethora of resources at our disposal to assist in clarifying our terminology. Essential books offer various definitions and practical explanations tailored to the classroom setting, making them invaluable assets in our pursuit of clearer communication. In today's digital age, many educators are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) for assistance. While I'm not suggesting that AI should replace our expertise, it can certainly serve as a helpful tool when we find ourselves stuck on articulating certain ideas or providing parent-friendly explanations. When it comes to explaining results, I advocate for striking a balance between using technical terms and offering simplified explanations. For example, when discussing a learning disability, incorporating the technical term alongside a simplified explanation can prove beneficial. Similarly, I appreciate it when medical professionals use layman's terms while also providing the corresponding medical terminology during my visits. Due to the overwhelming interest in this topic, I'm excited to announce that I'll be expanding on it during my upcoming training session on Monday. This comprehensive training will delve into techniques for succinctly explaining results, including the use of pre-recorded examples to aid in comprehension. Registration is open on my website, and recordings will be made available for those unable to attend live. This training isn't just for school psychologists—it's beneficial for all members of the assessment team. So, if you know someone who might benefit, feel free to extend the invitation. As March approaches, a busy time for special education professionals, mastering concise result explanations becomes even more crucial. If you're interested or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to my team or visit my website for more information. I hope to see you on Monday, but if not, I wish you a fantastic day and look forward to connecting with you another time. Welcome, everyone! I'm Jenny Ponzuric, and today we're delving into the art of explaining results succinctly. In our professional landscape, we often grapple with the challenge of effectively communicating a wealth of data gathered from various evaluations. How do we navigate this sea of information during meetings without drowning our audience in details? Instead of following a page-by-page approach, let's explore the power of integrating different data sources and prioritizing discussions around the student rather than fixating solely on test scores or rating scale results. Picture this: you're compiling a comprehensive report, weaving together insights from record reviews, interviews, observations, and standardized tests. Amidst this rich tapestry of information, it's easy to lose sight of the bigger picture. That's where the magic of integration comes into play. During the proofreading process, take note of emerging themes and how your data sources align. When it's time to present, focus on articulating the student's strengths and challenges in parent-friendly language, backed by a mosaic of evidence from various sources. For instance, when discussing rating scale information, express gratitude for the input while seamlessly integrating it with observations and communication with teachers. This approach not only paints a holistic picture but also demonstrates the alignment of data sources, enhancing the credibility of your insights. Avoid the trap of disjointed presentations, where you merely list findings without weaving them into a cohesive narrative. Instead, aim to synthesize the data, presenting a unified understanding of the student's journey and needs. Looking ahead, I invite you to join me for a two-hour training session on February 26th, where we'll delve deeper into the art of explaining results succinctly. Through pre-recorded examples and interactive discussions, we'll explore strategies for effectively communicating complex data in a clear and concise manner. Whether you're navigating academic results, cognitive processing data, or social-emotional insights, this training promises to equip you with practical tools for success. And don't worry if you can't make it live – the session will be recorded for your convenience. Interested in diving deeper? Visit my website for more information on this training and our comprehensive series of professional development offerings. In conclusion, mastering the art of succinct result explanations is not just about condensing information; it's about distilling insights into actionable understanding. Let's empower ourselves to communicate with clarity and impact, ensuring that every data point contributes meaningfully to the narrative of student growth and support. Thank you for tuning in, and I look forward to our journey of learning and growth together. 8 Books to Read in 2024: Winter Edition

Welcome to Bri Books! From sexy fiction to fascinating history, here's a look at what I'm reading in 2024. For a book lover, the new year is the definition of a blank slate. The books of 2024 offer escapes of all kinds. Below, I'vm nominating 8 books I can't wait to read in January and February. In this episode, I'm rounding up 8 titles I can't wait to read. 1:05: ‘From Slave Cabins to the White House: Homemade Citizenship in African American Culture' by Koritha Mitchell. I'm a cottagecore princess, and I wanted to get to the roots of domesticity in the US. In high school I was obsessed with domestic/ Victorian values during the Industrial Revolution, and noticed the glaring absence of free Black American women from this history. But that doesn't mean we weren't there. In the book, Koritha Mitchell analyzes canonical texts by and about African American women to lay bare the hostility these women face as they invest in traditional domesticity. Tracing how African Americans define and redefine success in a nation determined to deprive them of it, Mitchell plumbs the works of Frances Harper, Zora Neale Hurston, Lorraine Hansberry, Toni Morrison, Michelle Obama, and others. These artists honor black homes from slavery and post-emancipation through the Civil Rights era to "post-racial" America. Mitchell follows black families asserting their citizenship in domestic settings while the larger society and culture marginalize and attack them, not because they are deviants or failures but because they meet American standards. ‘From Slave Cabins to the White House' illuminates the links between African American women's homemaking and citizenship in history and across literature. 4:15: ‘The Temp Economy: From Kelly Girls to Permatemps in Postwar America' by Erin Hatton. Everyone knows that work in America is not what it used to be. Layoffs, outsourcing, contingent work, disappearing career ladders—these are the new workplace realities for an increasing number of people. But why? In ‘The Temp Economy,' Erin Hatton takes one of the best-known icons of the new economy—the temp industry—and finds that it is more than just a symbol of this degradation of work. Succinct, highly readable, and drawn from a vast historical record of industry documents, ‘The Temp Economy' is a one-stop resource for anyone interested in the temp industry or the degradation of work in postwar America. 6:50: ‘New York, New York, New York: Four Decades of Success, Excess, and Transformation' by Thomas Dyja. A lively, immersive history by an award-winning urbanist of New York City's transformation, and the lessons it offers for the city's future. Dyja's sweeping account of this metamorphosis shows it wasn't the work of a single policy, mastermind, or economic theory, nor was it a morality tale of gentrification or crime. Instead, three New Yorks evolved. Dyja weaves New Yorkers famous, infamous, and unknown—Yuppies, hipsters, tech nerds, and artists; community organizers and the immigrants who made this a truly global place—into a narrative of a city creating ways of life that would ultimately change cities everywhere. 9:12: ‘Fashion Killa: How Hip-Hop Revolutionized High Fashion' by music journalist Sowmya Krishnamurthy was released in October of 2023. A cinematic narrative of glamour, grit, luxury, and luck, ‘Fashion Killa' draws on exclusive interviews with the leaders of the fashion world to tell the story of the hip-hop artists, designers, stylists, and unsung heroes who fought the power and reinvented style around the world over the last fifty years. In the book, Krishnamurthy explores the connections between the DIY hip-hop scene and the exclusive upper-echelons of high fashion. She discusses the sociopolitical forces that defined fashion and tracks the influence of music and streetwear on the most exclusive (and exclusionary) luxury brands. At the intersection of cultural commentary and oral history, ‘Fashion Killa' commemorates the contributions of hip-hop to music, fashion, and our culture at large. 11:10: ‘Prayer and Our Bodies' by Flora Slosson Wuellner. Written in 1987, this book explores the very real relationship that exists between the bodily self and the spiritual self. Readers will heighten their awareness of the interactions among body, mind, and spirit. If you're someone who struggles to appreciate your body, this book is an important touchstone toward healing our relationships with ourselves and others. It talks about how prayer isn't just what we say, but how we live our lives. Flora Slosson Wuellner, a retired ordained minister of the United Church of Christ, is well known throughout the United States and Europe for her writings and retreat leadership that focus on the inner healing that God freely offers through Christ. She has written 14 books on inner healing and renewal. 12:36: ‘You Learn By Living: Eleven Keys for a More Fulfilling Life' by Eleanor Roosevelt. This wise and intimate book on how to get the most of out life was gifted to me by a lovely friend named Carrie. At the age of seventy-six, Roosevelt penned this simple guide to living a fuller life—a powerful volume of enduring commonsense ideas and heartfelt values. Offering her own philosophy on living, she takes readers on a path to compassion, confidence, maturity, civic stewardship, and more. 14:30: ‘The Pillow Book' by Sei Shonagon. Written by 10th century court gentlewoman Sei Shonagon, ostensibly for her own amusement, ‘The Pillow Book' offers a fascinating exploration of life among the nobility at the height of the Heian period, describing the exquisite pleasures of a confined world in which poetry, love, fashion, and whim dominated, while harsh reality was kept firmly at a distance. Moving elegantly across a wide range of themes including nature, society, and her own flirtations, Sei Shonagon provides a witty and intimate window on a woman's life at court in classical Japan. 16:30: ‘Homebodies' by Tembe Denton-Hurst is already a fantastic read. An insightful, propulsive, and deeply sexy debut novel about a young Black writer whose world is turned upside down when she loses her coveted job in media and pens a searing manifesto about racism in the industry. A meditation on identity, self-worth and the toll of corporate racism, Homebodies is a portrait of modern Black womanhood with a protagonist you won't soon forget.
