Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, From Beyond) joins us this week to open up about her journey from cult horror icon to truth-seeking storyteller. Barbara shares what it was like growing up in a carny family, the fractured reality of her parents' marriage, and how she eventually found closure with her father. We also talk about her early soap opera days, her breakout in horror classics, and her reflections on vulnerability, meditation, and balance. A deeply personal and inspiring look at a career built on truth and resilience. Thank you to our sponsors:
Welcome to What Matters Now, a weekly podcast exploring key issues currently shaping Israel and the Jewish World, with host Amanda Borschel-Dan speaking with The Times of Israel's senior analyst Haviv Rettig Gur, marking two years since the October 7, 2023, Hamas onslaught on southern Israel. To gain a sense of the Israeli public sentiment after two years of war, Rettig Gur analyzes a new survey conducted by Agam Labs and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, led by Nimrod Nir and Dr. Gayil Talshir. The researchers found, in surveying 2,170 Jewish Israelis and 459 Arab Israelis, that there is a drastic shift in Israelis' perceptions of their society and politicians. In one of the more dramatic findings, the report states that the initial unity found in the early months of the war has flipped to a division: from 77% in 2023 saying the war “united society” to 66% in 2025 saying it made society more divided. Pointing to Israel's strengths and human capital, Rettig Gur leaves us with an optimistic framing of the internal work that needs to be done, even as Israel has largely defeated its greatest enemies. And so this week, we ask Haviv Rettig Gur, what matters now. What Matters Now podcasts are available for download on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you get your podcasts. In this episode, I speak with Krystal Ramsden. Krystal was raised in an ultra-religious, homeschooled environment. Her early world was one of strict boundaries, until science, education, and the wider world cracked it open. What followed was a lifelong pursuit of knowledge and a career that has taken her from field camps in the Yukon to the geopolitical battlegrounds of mining finance and fragile states.Krystal also shares her parallel story of surviving abuse, and transforming trauma into advocacy and other practical initiatives. We explore her expertise in the geopolitics of resources, how inequality, governance, and security converge in the global race for critical minerals.Recorded on 26 August 2025.Connect with Krystal on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/krystalramsden/.Instagram: @at.the.coalfaceAnd don't forget to subscribe to At the Coalface for new episodes every two weeks.Help us produce more episodes by becoming a supporter. In this week's episode, Chris and Matt take another look at the political assault on the US intelligence community and its strain on Five Eyes, pushing partners to question sharing or holding information back, even as the core bonds endure for now. Chris then previews “Spy-Q,” a tradecraft-for-civilians training event that turns elicitation, deception detection, influence, behavioral profiling, resilience, and memory techniques into practical tools you can actually use. Finally, they unpack Israel's audacious, long-range strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar, the immediate blowback, and how Israeli intelligence refused to participate. Content warning: discussion of political violence, grief, and strong partisan commentary. In this wide-ranging Friday episode, the host reflects on the heavy toll of Charlie Kirk's assassination — from the grief of his widow stepping into a public role while raising children, to the surge in church attendance across denominations as people seek faith in the aftermath. The show then pivots to sharp political analysis: the Netherlands designating Antifa a terrorist group, three alleged left-wing attackers appearing in court simultaneously, and Mike Pence's controversial “both sides” remarks — framed by the host as a betrayal of the MAGA movement and a gift to the liberal media. The episode closes on a very different note: celebrating Greenville's Law Enforcement Appreciation Day with guest Joey Hudson, highlighting community support, donated gifts, and the everyday risks officers face. A mix of raw emotion, fiery politics, and gratitude for those in uniform.
Josie Askin is a New Zealand based runner and Holistic Wellness Coach who grew up watching her Dad compete in running events. As she tells the story in this conversation, she was a chubby kid who was teased about her weight so she started running during her teenage years to lose weight.Unfortunately, she soon found herself in a cycle of overtraining, under-recovery & under-eating for about 9 years which culminated in her experiencing the female athlete triad (as it was referred to then, which is a combination of disordered eating, amenorrhea and osteoporosis or low bone density) and ultimately a stress fracture in her hip. These days, the concept of the female athlete triad has been replaced by RED-S (relative deficiency in sport) - Josie will explain the difference in this conversation. In this conversation, she shares: * how she approached her running and recovery (and how the goal of wanting to lose weight influenced that)* the symptoms and red flags of RED-S and the surprising statistics about how common RED-S is,* the confronting reality of recovering from RED-S (especially when you've associated food with gaining weight)* how she felt shame and regret about her story and what's prompted her to speak openly about it now* how she's come to see her experience as a strength, not a weakness* the similarities between RED-S and burnout, and* her awareness of her tendency towards perfectionism and how it has impacted her life (including RED-S and burnout).

In Episode 254, Part 3 of the Mike Drop podcast, host Mike Ritland continues his conversation with former Green Beret Mark Gianconia, delving into the complex motivations behind the Iraq War and Mark's post-combat transition. The episode opens with a discussion on the murky intelligence surrounding weapons of mass destruction and the decision to invade Iraq, exploring whether it was a justified response to perceived threats or influenced by ulterior motives. Mark reflects on the chaotic post-invasion landscape, including his role in devastating airstrikes against the Iraqi military, navigating minefields, and managing volatile tribal factions in Tuz. He shares the emotional toll of combat, including feelings of guilt and fear, which led to his decision to leave special operations. Mark's career pivots dramatically as he becomes an instructor for the 18 Fox intelligence course, mastering geospatial intelligence and coding, which propels him into a tech career. He also discusses his book, One Green Beret, a cathartic effort to process his experiences, and his current role in geospatial technology, emphasizing AI as a tool rather than a threat.
