The thwarted Central American revolutions during the latter half of the twentieth century marked a watershed in what had become a global anti-imperialist movement striving for a more egalitarian future. Examining a range of documentary, literary, and artistic works, including Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, Héctor Tobar, Jennifer Harbury, and Horacio Castellanos Moya, States of Defeat looks at how left-wing intellectuals in the United States reckoned with the fallout from these defeats through wide-ranging creative expressions of indignation, cynicism, and grief. Here, author Eric A. Vázquez is joined in conversation with Maritza E. Cardenas and Jason Ruiz.Eric A. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Read more about Project23 and partner with us as we teach every verse of the Bible on video. Our text today is 1 Corinthians 7:1-7. Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman." But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another. — 1 Corinthians 7:1-7 Corinth celebrated sexual indulgence as entertainment, expression, escape, and even religion. Sex was merely a convenience—not commitment. But Paul doesn't invent a new sexual ethic here. He reaffirms the historic, biblical blueprint of marriage. The sexual ethic the Corinthians had forgotten: Sex belongs in monogamy. Sex outside marriage violates the covenant. Sex inside marriage is a shared responsibility—not one-sided. Here is how he starts: "But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband." — Cor. 7:2 Our sexual desires aren't the problem. Dislocation of sexual desires from the covenant is the core problem. God created us with sexual desires. He is very much pro-sex, but he is also pro-covenant and designed our sexual desires and sexual acts for inside the covenant, not outside it. Sex in the wrong place fractures the plan and design of God and impacts you and others. But sex in the right place fortifies. And then Paul goes where no Greco-Roman man expected him to go: "The husband should give to his wife… and likewise the wife to her husband." — Cor. 7:3 This isn't Paul trying his hand at sex therapy like Dr. Ruth Westheimer—it was ancient biblical wisdom: Her needs matter. His needs matter. Her authority matters. His authority matters. Paul's words shatter the cultural norm: "The wife does not have authority over her own body… likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body." — Cor. 7:4 He is not suggesting domination—sexual devotion. He is not suggesting ownership—sexual surrender. He is not suggesting power—sexual partnership. He is dispelling the myth that sex was designed to be a bargaining chip, a tool of control, or a means of manipulation. It was designed to be a covenant bond. That's why Paul warns: "Do not deprive one another… so that Satan may not tempt you." — Cor. 7:5 Withholding doesn't heal—it harms. Distance doesn't purify—it exposes. Neglect doesn't strengthen—it weakens. Paul is not condemning couples in sexless seasons that they did not choose. He is confronting sexless marriages created by indifference, resentment, avoidance, or false holiness. When intimacy disappears by choice rather than circumstance, the marriage weakens—and temptation looks for an opening. Marital intimacy is spiritual protection. A safeguard. A shared shield against temptation. Then, finally in verse 7, he says: "Each has his own gift from God…" — Cor. 7:7 Marriage is a gift. Singleness is a gift. The assignment differs—the grace is the same. So Paul pulls it all together: Desire matters. Marriage matters. Holiness matters. And God designed them to work together. Sex outside marriage fractures. Sex inside marriage fortifies. Because God made desire holy—and He placed it inside the covenant for our good. DO THIS: Invest intentionally in your marriage today: initiate a needed conversation, express affection, schedule time together, or remove a distraction that's weakening your connection. ASK THIS: Where have I treated desire as convenience rather than covenant? How can I serve my spouse (or future spouse) with greater mutuality and intentionality? What part of my understanding of sex or marriage needs to realign with God's design? PRAY THIS: Father, thank You for designing desire with purpose and placing it inside the covenant for our good. Teach me to honor You—whether married or single—with purity, mutuality, and devotion. Strengthen marriages, protect hearts, and anchor us in Your design. Amen. PLAY THIS: "Goodness of God"

In this episode, we'll dive into the complicated topic of "Frozen, Torn, or Unstable: Proving Shoulder Disability Claims."Most people think that getting disability benefits for shoulder problems is as simple as showing medical proof - MRI results, surgical records, or doctor's notes about your pain and limited motion. But when it comes to Long-Term Disability claims, that's just the beginning. Insurance carriers often twist the facts, using your own records, treatment notes, or even your words against you to argue that you're “better” or “should have recovered by now.” In this episode of Winning Isn't Easy, disability law expert Nancy L. Cavey breaks down what really happens when shoulder disorders collide with the claims process. You'll learn how the shoulder actually works, and why even a “minor” injury can make it impossible to perform the essential duties of your job. Nancy covers the most common conditions that lead to claims, from rotator cuff tears and frozen shoulder to chronic instability and dislocations, and explains how insurers use tactics like “medical improvement” arguments, surveillance, and Activities of Daily Living forms to undermine your case. You'll also hear practical advice on how to document your symptoms, treatment progress, and job limitations so your claim tells the full story - not the version your insurance company wants to tell. If your carrier says you've recovered, or insists you should be able to work through the pain, this episode shows you how to push back with medical evidence, clarity, and confidence. When it comes to shoulder disabilities, understanding your body, and your rights, can make all the difference. Winning Isn't Easy, but with the right strategy, you can keep your claim strong and your benefits protected. In this episode, we'll cover the following topics:One - Understanding Shoulder Disorders, Anatomy, and the Claims ProcessTwo - Rotator Cuff Disorders and Long-Term DisabilityThree - Frozen Shoulder and Long-Term DisabilityFour - Shoulder Instability and Dislocation in Disability ClaimsWhether you're a claimant, or simply seeking valuable insights into the disability claims landscape, this episode provides essential guidance to help you succeed in your journey. Today, we're diving into one of the most serious injuries in American football, and that is a knee dislocation. Dolphins star wide receiver Tyreek Hill recently suffered a devastating knee injury in the Monday Night Football game versus the Jets. He dislocated his knee resulting in multiple torn ligaments, including his ACL. Tyreek was taken to the hospital directly from the game for further evaluation and ended up undergoing urgent surgery for ligament reconstruction and repair. The team has obviously declared that this is a season-ending injury, and we wish him the best in his recovery.
We compare and contrast three different knee injuries, ACL, PCL and multi-ligament knee injuries commonly the result of a knee dislocation. The spring board for this conversation being the gruesome injury sustained by Tyreek Hill on national television on Monday Night Football. Those injuries are not just difficult to watch, they can be devastating. They are not uncommonly associated with nerve injuries (drop foot) and, even worse, occasionally vascular injuries potentially resulting in amputation.

This episode is sponsored by Arrow Global and first appeared on The PERE Podcast Germany's property market is facing the highest insolvency rate in Europe. Years of cheap credit and rising prices encouraged aggressive development, but when interest rates jumped, buyers paused, sales collapsed and projects ran out of cash. The result: a wave of bankruptcies across the sector. However, in this episode, CEO of Arrow Global Germany Bernhard Hansen explains that there's opportunity within this dislocation. Stalled projects and smaller developments are waiting for investors with the expertise and capital to finish them. With housing demand far outpacing supply, especially in cities like Munich, he believes there is still strong long-term potential. That potential of course comes with challenges: stricter sustainability rules, tougher financing conditions, and wary buyers mean projects take longer and require deeper due diligence. Yet Hansen is optimistic. International investors and alternative lenders are stepping in, and he says the correction is less of an ending, and more of a recalibration of Germany's real estate market.

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Nikki High (http://OctaviasBookshelf.com). Classified as a black female, Ms. High opened an independent bookstore in her native Pasadena, California in 2023. She envisioned the literary hub as an homage to science fiction icon and Victim of White Supremacy Octavia Butler. Octavia's Bookshelf transmogrified it's mission after this year's apocalyptic wildfires in Altadena and Pasadena. Although Octavia's Bookshelf was spared, many of the black residents in the area were not. In fact, Ms. High and her husband were forced to evacuate and watched in horror as theirs was one of twelve houses that survived. Undaunted, Ms. High repurposed her store to become a donation center for wildfire victims. We'll talk about her spectacular effort and the impact of the wildfires on black homeowners some six months later. We're even treated to some of the ways Ms. High experienced Racism (and support) as a black entrepreneur. #ClimateChange #Kindred #INVEST in The COWS - http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: http://cash.app/$TheCOWS
Angelique Bickford is a nearly-26-year-old first time mother. She is a natural, and her three-month old daughter is calm and happy. This is remarkable given the circumstances. While working in the packing shed, she fell in love with Maico, another employee on the organic farm. They managed to embark on a special relationship despite great shyness. Right when the baby was born four members of their family living nearby were violently seized—the door knocked down—without a warrant or provocation, and abducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, some detained, others deported. Angelique and her partner lived in fear, all the while loving their life together with their housemates and their new precious child. But soon enough, on the way to work Maico too was pulled out of the vehicle in which he was riding early one morning this spring. He too is in detention. Angelique expresses hope, a sense of calm mixed with distress and outrage, along with her own theory as to why so many of her new family members and co-workers are being seized.

[Editor's Note: The following contains spoilers for Yellowjackets, Season 3, Episode 3, "Dislocation."]Raise your hand if you judged Callie way too soon during Season 1 of Yellowjackets. Callie is the only teenager in the present day timeline, and she often acts like it. She's moody, rarely listens to her parents and, in Season 1, Episode 5, crossed a major line by wearing Jackie's (Ella Purnell) Yellowjackets jersey as a Halloween costume. Sure, one could label that bratty, if not cruel behavior, but as Sarah Desjardins pointed out during her Collider Ladies Night interview, we can't forget that Callie is a child, and she's a child that's been subjected to quite a few head-spinning and disturbing situations courtesy of her parents' (Melanie Lynskey and Warren Kole) twisted past and present. While Callie appears to be keeping it somewhat cool at the start of Season 3, there's no doubt there's a lot bubbling up underneath because, as Jeff explains, Callie just witnessed her mother's friends wearing animal masks chasing her through the woods with knives, she shot one of them, and then saw Natalie (Juliette Lewis) die. Sure, they arrived at Lottie's (Simone Kessell) wellness center with “five Dateline's worth of problems,” but the problems they added to that list while there changed the game big time for Callie. In the first few episodes of Season 3, we start to get a sense of how. With the first three episodes of Yellowjackets Season 3 now available to stream on Paramount+, Desjardins swung by the Collider Ladies Night studio to explain how she took the character from a seemingly stereotypical bratty teenager, to a highly determined - and often manipulative - young adult who's been heavily shaped by her mother's mysterious past and will stop at nothing to get answers.
