Listen as a couple of "film experts" discuss movies, one best picture winner at a time. Never too serious, always funny, and always 100% factual. Join your hosts Molly and Jordan as they work their way though the biggest names in cinema history.
We're back! Sorry for the delay but now that Jordan is done with school we should be back to a regular schedule! Unfortunately, the movie we watched this week was not our favorite. We hope you enjoy it though!
Hi everyone! So sorry for the delay but we are back with a new episode. Quarantine has been tough but we have been very fortunate to be able to have out jobs and more importantly our health. Stay safe out there everyone and hopefully, this stupid podcast can be a bit of a bright spot in these dark times.
We may be a few days late but we made it! This week's episode is on the 1983 Best Picture winner Gandhi! We both thought the movie was fine, but a little long and kind of boring. But Ben Kingsley tho!! Thanks for listening!
The Oscars this year were not a total shit show! Best Picture this year went to Parasite which was, in our opinion, one of the best movies of the year and that we've ever seen. WE hope you enjoy this episode and that you keep listening in the future because the show will (hopefully) be finished this year!
Y'all we have watched some terrible movies throughout the course of this show, but every once in a while we watch a movie that we really love. The Apartment is one of those movies. Funny, dramatic, suspenseful, sad, dark, this movie has damn near everything. We both thoroughly enjoyed this film and we hope that you watch it then come back and listen to what we have to say about it. Also, be sure to listen until the end to learn about how you can get access to our upcoming bonus episodes! Thanks for listening!
Shirley MacLaine. Jeff Daniels. Danny Devito. Jack Nicholson. We're back y'all and we brought the 1984 Best Picture-winning movie Terms of Endearment with us. We thought this movie was fine, funny at times, but ultimately it fell flat for both of us. Thanks for listening and welcome to another year of podcast fun.
We discuss the new Star Wars movie. There's a lot we liked and a lot we didn't. Come listen and see if you agree?
We only enjoyed 9 minutes of this almost 4-hour movie, so we had to fill the rest of the episode by talking about other things. Specifically, a sexual encounter with some peanut butter. Enjoy!
This week, we discussed the 1985 Best Picture winner, Amadeus. Even though we enjoyed the movie, we spent very little time discussing it during this episode for some reason. Instead, we came up with two cinematic crossovers, "That's so Raymond" and "My mom's got a date with a vampire's daughter". We also bashed some bottom-tier Food Network shows and Molly attempted to learn Italian. Get ready for some good goofs in this episode!
Folks, it has been a while since we had this large of a reaction to a film we've watched for this podcast. I won't say any more than that, so as not to spoil the surprise. Here is our episode on the 1959 Best Picture-winning movie, Gigi.
Sorry for the late post, but we had a few concerts to go to this week! This is our first episode in a while that is actually about a best picture winning movie. Out of Africa was a little slow to start, and a bit anti-climactic for us, but we both enjoyed it overall and thought that the performances by both Meryl Streep and Robert Redford were superb. We hope you enjoy us returning to our best picture roots, and we will return next week with our episode on Gigi. Thanks for listening!
Happy Halloween everyone! We're uploading a day early in celebration of the holiday and we've got the ultimate Halloween movie to close out the month with, Halloween! Yes, we watched the 1978 classic slasher film that has been terrifying teenagers for over 40 years. We both really enjoyed it and even had a good laugh at parts. We hope you have a spooky Halloween and thanks for listening! P.S. Here is the link to our Patreon page if you would like to support the show patreon.com/manwomanmovieThanks!
This one is a doozy folks. We've watched some weird movies before but this might be the darkest and weirdest yet. From Yorgos Lanthimos comes The Killing of a Sacred Deer. A story of love, loss and the importance of family. Can one man do what needs to be done to protect his family? Can we ever really escape our past? These questions don't get answered in the episode, but I thought they fit well with the theme of the movie. Enjoy!
Hey everyone! We're back with another spooky movie and this week we watched Misery! We both enjoyed the movie and now Molly will never be able to look at Kathy Bates the same way ever again. This episode does get a little graphic so if you have a weak stomach this may be a little too much for you. Thanks for listening and if you haven't done so already check out our redesigned website and leave us a review on iTunes to help us out. See you next week with another scary movie!
We didn't miss a week this time, yay! We actually uploaded it on schedule for once! This week we watched a newer scary movie called Hereditary. We all enjoyed it, those of us without degrees in the genetics field even more so, but the general consensus was that its a great scary movie. We hope you enjoy the episode because this one was great to record even though there are a few parts where the recording cuts out. Sorry. Also, this week we had our friend Natalie whom you know from the Highlights section of the show record this episode with us! Enjoy!
Surprise! We are uploading a bit late, but we will have another episode this Friday. Since it's Halloween season we figured we would watch some scary/Halloween movies for the month of October. First up we went with a childhood classic, Halloweentown. We have been watching this one for 20 years, so let's see how it holds up. Thanks for listening!
Hey everyone! Sorry for the absence these past few weeks. Jordan started school and has been super busy and we also had to go back to our hometown for a weekend so we've been kind of out of sorts, but we're back and we posted 2 episodes today! This one is about my second favorite movie starring Alec Guinness, Bridge on the River Kwai. We both enjoyed the movie a lot more than we thought and hope you enjoy the episode. Sorry about the echo, we're working on it!
I know we missed another week, but give us a break it was a holiday and we had an out of town wedding! We're back this week and we watched Platoon. We thought it was a pretty good, if not disturbing, movie. We hope you enjoy and have mercy on us for missing a week. See you next week!
This week, we watched the 1957 best picture winner Around the World in 80 Days. We didn't love the movie, but we hope you love this episode! Other topics of discussion include the difference between Owen Wilson and Matthew McConaughey and the definition of a "wet blanket". Shockingly, it's not fog. Sorry for the occasional siren and dog barking in the background--we're working on getting something to help soundproof our recording room. Listen and enjoy!
Hi everyone! Sorry we uploaded a week late again, we're really going to have to stop doing that. Anyway, this week we watched The Last Emperor which won the Best Picture award in 1988. It tells the life story of, you guessed it, the last emperor of China. We both enjoyed the movie but thought it was a little bit too long. Let us know what you think and thanks for listening!
Hey everyone! Sorry about the delay, but we went out of town last week Friday and we didn't get a chance to upload the new episode, so here it is! We watched the 1955 Best Picture winner, Marty. It's a pseudo romantic comedy about a 30 something year old single guy down on his luck, and looking for love. We both enjoyed it for the most part, but history is a strange thing, and sometimes the behaviors of the time period make it hard to appreciate the movie in the current culture. We hope you enjoy the episode and we'll be back next week with another episode. Thanks for listening!
This week we watched Rain Man and we both found it to be a bit disturbing, and also heartfelt and overall a pretty good movie. Dustin Hoffman is amazing and Tom Cruise has a perfect face. We hope you enjoy the episode!
Hiya folks! we're back with a new episode and we're going to change things up a little and upload on Fridays now! Wednesdays were a little weird for us, so we switched it to Friday, so keep that in mind going forward. Anyway, this week we watched our first Marlon Brando film and we both thought it was great. There's also a part at the beginning of the episode where we talk about a man getting a kitchen utensil inserted into his body. Find out where this week, find out WHAT next week. Thanks for listening!
This week, we discuss the 1990 best picture winner Dances With Wolves. We also talk a little bit about our trip to Europe! Listen and enjoy!
Folks, we are back on our grind and have returned with a new episode for your listening pleasure. This weeks movie had us both pretty bored, and uninterested. There's only so many war movies you can watch before they all start to bleed into each other. We hope you enjoy the episode, and if you know what the title means, please let us know! Thanks!
Well folks get ready for the first movie to make Spike Lee want to get up and leave the Oscars. Driving Miss Daisy is a strange film, not because of the plot, but because of the lack of one. It seems to just float from talking point to the next. We weren't huge fans of this one. Listen to find out why!
This week we discussed the 1952 best picture winner, The Greatest Show On Earth. Not to be confused with The Greatest Showman. Although we did talk about The Greatest Showman. And The Greatest Show On Earth. And clowns. And toys from the '90s. It's a weird movie and a weird episode. Enjoy!
We didn't watch a best picture winning movie this week, but we did watch the most talked about movie of probably the last decade. Endgame was a thrill ride and a love letter to Marvel fans. We both highly recommend it, and hope that you see it before listening to this episode cause otherwise, you're in for hella spoilers. Thanks for listening!
This week we take a disturbing look into the mind of Hannibal Lecter as we discuss the Silence of the Lambs. We both really enjoyed this movie even though it didn't age all that well in some aspects. This episode is particularly funny and we had a really great time recording it for you. Thanks for listening!
Happy Wednesday listeners! This week we discuss the Gene Kelly classic, An American In Paris. We both enjoyed the colors and dancing in this movie, but thought the plot was a little weak, and also found Gene Kelly a little...disturbing. Listen to find out our full thoughts, thanks!
This week we watched our second Clint Eastwood Film, Unforgiven. We mostly enjoyed it, but neither of us are huge on westerns in general. We hope you enjoy this and if you do, tell a friend! Thanks for listening!
This week we bring back the funny! We watched a really great movie called All About Eve and we both really enjoyed it. We hope you enjoy our discussion of it and, we hope that you'll watch it for yourselves. Thanks for listening!
Hey everyone! After a week off we're back with what is probably going to be our most heartbreaking episode. We watched Schindler's List and had some thoughts on it. If you're feeling up to it, give it a listen and let us know what you think! As always thanks for listening!
This week, we discussed the 1949 best picture All The King's Men. Molly and Jordan have differing opinions about this one. Other topics of discussion include Mary Poppins horse racing, The Lion King vs. Aladdin, and short and fat ties. Listen and enjoy!
Well folks here it is, our episode on the most recent Best Picture Green Book. We had some pretty strong feelings about this movie and we hope you'll take the time to listen to them in this episode. See you next week!
This episode is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're gonna hear. This week we discussed the 1994 best picture winner, Forrest Gump. The phrase "Gump DAY!" gets used more than once. Molly sings Cheesburger in Paradise...I mean "beef" Burger in Paradise. CSI Las Vegas AND New York are both a point of discussion (Grissom vs. gristle). "My name is Forrest Gump. People call me Forrest Gump." This movie has too many great quotes to not include one more!
This here is a long one folks. We share our thoughts on every movie nominated for Best Picture this year and which movies we would like to see win. The Oscars are tonight so make sure to tune in and let us know what you think of the results. We'll be back on Wednesday with our episode on Forrest Gump. Thanks for listening!
This week, we discussed the 1947 best picture winner Gentleman's Agreement. This episode focuses a lot on the antisemitism and racism brought up in the movie and how still extremely relevant these issues are today. Also, Jordan tries to skip another movie on you guys and Molly calls him a dumbass. Listen and enjoy!
In this episode we discuss the 1996 best picture winner, The English Patient. Other topics of discussion include the difference between Turkey and Hungary, and Ralph Fiennes' messed up face. Then, our special guest tells us about a sexually charged encounter he had with a family member of Juliette Binoche's. Enjoy!
We mistakenly skipped a year, so this week we discussed the 1948 best picture winner, Hamlet. We also discussed our childhood extracurricular activities, the familial relationships of The Lion King, and the true definition of incest. Also, Jordan thinks that Molly is ruining the podcast. Give it a listen! You won't be sorry.
This week, we discussed the 1997 best picture winner, Titanic....as well as Sully, 9/11, and the struggles of dinosaurs. Listen and enjoy!
This week, we briefly discussed the 1947 best picture winner, The Best Years of Our Lives. The rest of the episode gets a little more serious when we discuss the representation of the disability community in film and media. Then we have a fight about Titanic. It's all about balance.
Well folks we are officially done with the 2000 era best pictures. Bring on those 90's movies! First off we have Shakespeare in Love starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Joseph Fiennes as star crossed lovers in a tale of love, theater, and puffy pants. We hope you enjoy and if you do, please tell a friend about our show. Thanks for listening!
This week, we discussed the 1946 best picture winner The Lost Weekend which got us thinking a lot about alcoholism. We also talked about the origins and celebrations of Kwanza, taking confession as a Catholic priest, high school health class, giving birth, and the Illuminati. We hope you enjoy!
In this episode, we discuss the 2001 best picture winning film Gladiator. We talked about Crussell Rowe's.....no, wait.....Russell Crowe's performance, gay giraffes, and mammary glands. Also, this actually happened:Jordan: "I have nipples, can you milk me?"Molly: "I mean, if I tried hard enough, probably."Listen and enjoy!
After a week off we have made our triumphant return with the first movie starring Bing Crosby to win Best Picture. In "Going My Way" an old Irish catholic priest butts heads with a young, hip, velvet voiced pastor who was sent there to replace him. We discuss everything from religion, to angels in the outfield, and much much more. We hope you enjoy!
This week we dive into the mind of John Nash in the 2002 Best Picture wining biopic, A Beautiful Mind. We also spoil like three other movies with twists in them so you've been warned. I mean we do give a spoiler warning but you know how that goes. Anyway, we also discuss mental illness, early 2000's rom coms, and we finally settle on a tagline for our show. Thanks for listening!
This week, we discussed the 1943 best picture winner Casablanca (or Ass-ablanca, as Jordan likes to call it). And for some reason, we spent a lot of time talking about e-cigarettes and vaping. Not sure what that has to do with French Morocco circa World War II, but please listen and enjoy!
This week we dive deep into the world of jazz and prison in the 2003 best picture winner Chicago! We, uh didn't really care for this movie so if this is one of your favorites, consider this a warning. Enjoy!
This week we got back to our Roots and watched the 1943 best picture winner Mrs. Minniver. This episode we discuss Post Malone, the invention of the car, and many many more things that are totally related to the movie. Thanks for listening!
Enough screwing around, it's Halloween and we are gonna talk about a truly terrifying film. We watched the VVitch and let me tell you, this one is not for the squeamish, or for lovers of babies or dogs. If you enjoy creepy stories about witches in the woods and creepy farm animals you'll dig this one. Be sure to leave a review on iTunes if you enjoy and also tell a friend or family member if you think they would like it, it helps us out a ton. Thanks for listening!
