Pred nasprotniki in tekmeci ni ogrožen, saj ga ne more nihče pritisniti ob zid.
“They spent their preschool years when they were three and four years old playing all the time. But then they went to school and they forgot how to play.”Elisa is a newly minted homeschooler. This is the episode you are going to want to listen to if you are on the precipice of taking the leap into homeschooling or you have found yourself deep in the trenches of deschooling your own children and yourself. The daughter of a teacher who became a teacher herself, Elisa is now a homeschooling mum to twin boys and a daughter (ages 6 and 3) bravely sharing how she's navigating these new, unchartered waters. SUMMARYElisa was the child who loved school and thrived academically, enjoying the accolades and recognition she received. She grew up in suburban Sydney only minutes from where she & her husband are now raising their own family, with grandparents close by for extra support. Her mother was a teacher and despite discouragement, both she and her sister followed in mums footsteps and became teachers themselves. It wasn't until her own boys started school at the same school she was working at, that her life did a complete 180.We shouldn't be preparing kids for school, we should be preparing them for life. Her own boys really enjoyed school. It wasn't that they disliked the concept of school and they were quite happy to go. They just really didn't enjoy the period in the classroom. They were happy to be with friends outside. They loved going to the canteen. They loved playing soccer. But it became quite clear that they weren't quite coping or enjoying what they were expected to do, sitting at a desk or table.Elisa believes the seeds were sown early on because she had started to question school, but almost didn't know that homeschooling was an option. Social media, podcasts and lockdowns gave Elisa the confidence to give homeschooling a shot. Overall her boys are enjoying being at home, they mostly enjoy learning. The challenge for Elisa has been to figure out how to teach without teaching or being a teacher. It's a learning process for all of them.Questioning school has prompted Elisa to look differently at other aspects of life, such as food choices, low-tox living and commercialisation. She wants her kids to know that the important, wonderful things in life are not a pair of Nike Air Jordans.Elisa wants her kids to be kind and school as it is today isn't the best environment to foster this.INSPIRATIONHunt Gather Parent - Michaeleen DoucleffThere's No Such Things as Bad Weather - Linda Åkeson McGurkA Matter of Principal - Mandy Davis1000 Hours Outside podcast CONNECTInstagram - @learning.beyond.four.wallsNOTE: This is an abridged version of the show notes.Follow the link below to find a more detailed summary of what Elisa shares in this episode:FULL SHOW NOTES HEREConnect with us:Instagram - @australianhomeschoolstoriesSubstack - Australian Homeschool StoriesThis podcast is recorded on the lands of the Bunurong people of the Kulin nation. How some people in society really struggle to accept the toll ADHD can take on our lives, especially when they can't physically see itWhy boring tasks are often physically painful Sonia is helping society understand the real challenges of having ADHD (& other forms of Neurodiversity), whilst also demonstrating the positive ripple effect of creating supportive environments for those wired differently. So many of us get frustrated and furious when our day - or life - doesn't go as planned. When we are knocked off our routine, or find that someone or something is "wasting our time," we feel as if we are wasting our life. But we are wrong. In this episode, Vaughn shares a personal (funny) story about a run in with the law that drives home this point: everything that happens to us, good or bad, can be leveraged for our gain, the good of the world, and the glory of God. But we have to make the choice.

“Aesop’s Fables are silly stories about dogs and mice and foxes and lions. Children love them. But are they ‘for kids?’ No, they are for human beings. They are designed to teach lessons. Bad stories pander. Good stories entertain. Great ones teach while they do it. The question is, what kind of stories are you filling your kid imagination with? What kind of stories are you filling your own life with?”Ryan explains why the stories that you expose your children to should be teaching them timeless lessons, and launches his newest book The Boy Who Will Be King, on today’s Daily Dad podcast.Pre-order The Boy Who Would Be King, our newest release at Daily Stoic, written by Ryan Holiday in the depths of the pandemic (not unlike the one Marcus ruled through), this new beautifully crafted book is available for preorder now. Sam Meekings' love for writing came from childhood, when he wrote his first book about going on adventures with his dog. As a university graduate, his passion for writing intersected with his interest in exploring different cultures. As a teacher in China, he discovered a fascinating story about the trials of a couple's relationship as they experience Mao's Cultural Regime and the birth of modern China. Not realizing what he was getting himself into, he started his first historical fiction novel. In this episode, we discuss the ins-and-outs of being a writer, what strategies can you use to motivate yourself to keep writing, and how to do justice when you write about another culture without culturally appropriating it.
