This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE Mackinac Island is famous for its fudge, Victorian charm, and car-free streets—but there's more to this idyllic Michigan getaway than meets the eye. Beneath the surface of its historic buildings and scenic shorelines lies a haunted history that has drawn ghost hunters and thrill-seekers from across the country. From the restless spirits said to haunt the Mission Point Resort theater to unexplained phenomena at the Grand Hotel and Fort Mackinac, this island is as eerie as it is enchanting. In this episode, we're joined by Todd Clements, founder of the Haunts of Mackinac ghost tour company and author of two books on the island's paranormal activity. Todd takes us deep into the legends, local lore, and chilling encounters that make Mackinac one of the most haunted places in the Midwest. Whether you're a skeptic or a true believer, one thing's for sure: Mackinac Island has more than a few ghosts hiding in plain sight. This is Part Two of our conversation. Thatcher's victories, including a general election landslide and breaking the miners' strike, emboldened her to launch another phase in the reduction of the role of the state in the British economy. Nationalised industries were privatised, with encouragement given to individuals to buy the shares, which they did with enthusiasm. This came on top of the continuing success of council house sales under the ‘Right to Buy' scheme. Extending home and share ownership to far more people, from far more modest backgrounds than ever before, Thatcher claimed, was opening an era of popular capitalism. The reality, however, was more nuanced. Many buyers of shares in privatised companies sold them again, taking a quick profit, because the share price on flotation had been low and it climbed dramatically afterwards. Many owners of former social housing also sold their properties, leading to a large minority ending back again as rentals, but with private landlords not bound by the policy of affordable rents that councils had applied.Similarly, another great initiative of the Thatcher government, the deregulation of the London Stock Exchange, seemed to go brilliantly. London regained its status as a major financial centre. It would only be twenty or so years later that some of the downside emerged, when the encouragement to banks to engage in speculation became a contributing factor to the 2008 crash. The IRA was running a terrorist campaign in Britain too, one that nearly claimed Thatcher's own life, when a bomb was planted in Brighton's Grand Hotel, where she and many leading Tories were staying for the party conference. Thatcher reacted with commendable courage and resolution at the time, and later even went so far to negotiate an Anglo-Irish agreement, again giving the Republic a consultative role in the affairs of Northern Ireland. It didn't go far enough, as the Good Friday agreement would a decade later, but it was an important step,And then there was the Westland affair, when a British helicopter manufacturer ran into difficulties, and a dispute broke out in cabinet over which two options, American or European, to back for a rescue. Ultimately, that led to the Minister of Defence, Michael Heseltine, openly defying Thatcher. That was an ominous event, a first crack in the previously apparently indestructible fortress of support for Thatcher among her colleagues. It was a foretaste of unpleasantness ahead but for the moment that was still quite a way in the future.Illustration: Margaret Thatcher in defiant mood, speaking out against terrorism at the 1984 Conservative Party conference, after the bomb attack on the Grand Hotel in Brighton. I my musíme jít s dobou, a i když máme tradiční historický hotel, neustále musíme inovovat. Už sedm let hotel rekonstruujeme – většinu uvnitř a teď jsme připravili i projekt veřejných prostor před prostranstvím Grandhotelu Pupp,“ dodává Krausz.Rozhovor vznikl během Mezinárodního filmového festivalu Karlovy Vary.
Friday, May 30th, Chris Holman arrived fresh off 45 interviews at the Mackinac Policy Conference, on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel, to be on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony for Copper Peak, of Ironwood, Michigan. This video shares an interview with Bob Jacquart, former head of Stormy Kromer. He's retired and put time and passion into the project at Copper Peak. Next there are excerpts from a ceremony ahead of the celebration of the next phase for the project at Copper Peak. And finally the countdown and project blast that marked the next phase. » Visit MBN website: www.michiganbusinessnetwork.com/ » Subscribe to MBN's YouTube: www.youtube.com/channel/UCqNX… » Like MBN: www.facebook.com/mibiznetwork » Follow MBN: twitter.com/MIBizNetwork/ » MBN Instagram: www.instagram.com/mibiznetwork/ The World's Largest Artificial Ski Jump As you've probably guessed from the title, Copper Peak is the world's largest artificial ski jump. While it hasn't been operating in that capacity since 1994, we're on the way to restoring the jump to its previous glory. In the meantime, visitors love stopping by Copper Peak to go on our Adventure Ride or explore our Mountain Biking Trails. And who can blame them? The Copper Peak upper observation platform provides views at 1,782 feet above sea level and 1,180 feet above Lake Superior, and the trails feature a 600-foot elevation gain over 5.5 miles. Now that's not for the faint of heart! About the Jump The Copper Peak ski jump is made from 300 tons of sturdy COR-TEN steel and boasts a 469-foot cantilevered in run with a 35-degree slope. It's built to withstand even the strongest winds, including speeds of over 190 mph. During windy weather, you may observe a gentle 18-inch sway at the top, but rest assured, there's no cause for concern! The jump sways intentionally as part of its design. A Vision for the Next Two Years Our mission is to redefine Copper Peak as the premier ski jump worldwide, hosting year-round competitions highlighting the breathtaking beauty of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and the surrounding region. Our vision is to position the Upper Peninsula as a globally renowned destination for outdoor enthusiasts, inspiring a passion for the area as a distinctive place to live, work, and play while also fostering business growth in the region. How They Plan To Reach This New Adventure Over the past few years, Copper Peak's Adventure Ride has experienced significant growth. Investments have been made in preliminary engineering, geo-tech studies, structural reviews, master planning exercises, and business case development to redevelop the hill to host international competitions. The Copper Peak Organizing Committee, appointed by the full board in 2015, has dedicated considerable time and resources to foster relationships with esteemed organizations such as the International Ski Federation (FIS), the United States Ski Association (USSA), USA Ski Jumping and USA Nordic Combined, as well as influential Michigan legislators and decision-makers. The ultimate objective has been to pave the way for the successful reintroduction of international ski jumping events at Copper Peak. On March 30, 2022, Copper Peak was granted a generous $20 million from the State of Michigan to bring this vision to life. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all those who played a role in this important investment by the state. A $20 million project for Copper Peak began on Friday with a ceremony. After a resounding boom, the Copper Peak project now begins. The goal of this project is to bring the ski hill to International Ski and Snowboard Federation standards. President of Copper Peak Bob Jacquart said this first phase is focusing on the landing hill. Jacquart says; “We're going to redo the landing hill right now and get it, widen it, change the angle, and eventually pour a concrete slab so that we can have ski jumping in the summer,”

It's a corporate-backed conference featuring lobbyists and lawmakers, who get to spend three fun-filled days on Mackinac Island's luxurious Grand Hotel. And it shouldn't be breaking news to these elitists since the revolving door between lawmaker and lobbyist in Lansing isn't just out in the open, it's celebrated by many Lansing insiders. rWotD Episode 2943: Panama Canal Museum Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia's vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Sunday, 25 May 2025, is Panama Canal Museum. The Panama Canal Museum (Spanish: Museo del Canal Interoceánico de Panamá) is a non-profit and public museum located in Panama City, Panama. Established in 1997, the museum is devoted to the history of the construction of the Panama Canal in its various stages, including the first French construction attempt, the later construction by the United States, and the eventual transfer to Panamanian control. This museum is located in Plaza Catedral or Independence Plaza, on the corners of 5th and 6th streets. Originally the building was the Grand Hotel, built by French businessman, George Loew, between 1874 and 1875. It was the most luxurious hotel in Panama City, however its history would be short-lived since it was sold to Count Ferdinand de Lesseps in 1881. From then on it would be the headquarters of the Universal Company of the French Interoceanic Canal. Most of the building was used for offices, except for one floor which would lodge high-ranking employees. After the French canal failure, the current Panama Canal Museum building was used by the United States Canal Commission for 4 years until they moved to Balboa in 1910. The Panamanian government bought the building in 1915 to use it as public offices. As the years passed, it deteriorated like most of the buildings in Casco Viejo. In 1996 the Board of Trustees of the Interoceanic Canal Museum was created. Restoration work started immediately and the first part of the museum was inaugurated in 1997, while the full construction took six years. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:00 UTC on Sunday, 25 May 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Panama Canal Museum on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Ivy.

With the latest series of the much-discussed drama The White Lotus recently wrapped up, Screenshot asks why cinema and TV make so many return visits to hotels as a setting.Whether sinister and scary like in The Shining or Psycho, fabulous but faded like The Grand Budapest Hotel, or comically chaotic like in Fawlty Towers, hotels offer a myriad of possible opportunities for drama. Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode check in to check out their rich history on screen. Ellen talks to film critic Hannah Strong about the timeless appeal of screen stays from the 1932 classic Grand Hotel to The White Lotus - and about how directors Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppola have made hotels the focus of some of their most famous films. Ellen also speaks to Sean MacPherson, hotelier, cinephile and co-owner of the storied Hotel Chelsea in New York City, about the glamorous allure of historic hotels - and the impact of the movies on hotel design. Mark speaks to writer and critic Anne Billson about the seedier - and scarier - side of hotels on screen, from the Coen Brothers' 1991 cult classic Barton Fink, to the 1990 Roald Dahl fantasy The Witches. And Mark also talks to director Rodney Ascher, whose 2012 documentary Room 237 explored Stanley Kubrick's The Shining from the unusual points of view of a number of theorists - all of whom seem to have checked into the film's Overlook hotel and never been able to leave.Producer: Jane Long A Prospect Street production for BBC Radio 4
The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 3: 5:05pm- Dr. Wilfred Reilly—Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University & Author of “Lies My Liberal Teacher Told Me”—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss reports that the Trump Administration may disband the Department of Education. Plus, will President Donald Trump pardon former Minneapolis police officer Dereck Chauvin? Dr. Reilly notes that morally, it might be the right thing to do—however, practically speaking, a presidential pardon won't accomplish much since Chauvin is also in prison on state charges. AND will Dr. Reilly be making an appearance at the Grand Hotel of Cape May later this year? 5:50pm- Rich goes 40+ minutes without taking a break—and now he has no time to do anything else.
The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (03/10/2025): 3:05pm- Musk Derangement Syndrome: Social media users are now calling on Tesla owners to sell their vehicles in response to CEO Elon Musk's work with the Trump Administration's Department of Government Efficiency. In one viral clip, TikTok influencer Damien Slash vowed to send Tesla's stock to “zero” and questioned whether the electric vehicle company will even still exist one year from now. 3:10pm- Utah is set to become the first state to ban the use of fluoride in public water systems—Governor Spencer Cox confirmed he plans to sign a bill that will put the policy into effect in early May. 3:15pm- On Monday, the social media platform X was hit with a “massive cyberattack,” according to owner Elon Musk. Could Russia be responsible? Musk notably provided the Ukrainian military with access to his satellite constellation Starlink—allowing Ukrainians to communicate with one another efficiently on the battlefield while repelling Russian aggression. 3:30pm- In a post to social media, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard wrote: “Per POTUS's directive, I have revoked security clearances and barred access to classified information for Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, and Andrew Weissman, along with the 51 signers of the Hunter Biden ‘disinformation' letter. The President's Daily Brief is no longer being provided to former President Biden.” 3:35pm- Why does Rich have chopsticks? 3:40pm- According to research from the Heritage Foundation's Oversight Project, former President Joe Biden signed dozens of executive orders with an “autopen”—raising questions about the legitimacy of those actions. Did Biden know what he was signing? Earlier this year, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed that during a closed-door meeting Biden had no recollection of signing an executive order that effectively froze new liquid natural gas export permits. 4:05pm- Bill D'Agostino—Senior Research Analyst at Media Research Center—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to break down some of the best (and worst) clips from the Sunday shows. In an interview with Politico, Governor Tim Walz critiqued the campaign strategy of the Harris-Walz presidential campaign—suggesting they should have done more interviews instead of playing it safe. But, as D'Agostino notes, even friendly interviews were often disastrous for Kamala Harris. PLUS, host of The View Whoopi Goldberg says that if you oppose biological males participating in women's sports, you must think women are weak. 4:30pm- California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) is now suddenly claiming it is “deeply unfair” for biological males to participate in women's sports—pivoting away from the Democrat Party's stance. Interestingly, Newsom also invited conservative Charlie Kirk on his podcast recently. Is Newsom becoming a moderate, leaving his far-left preferences behind? Rich thinks this is nothing more than a political strategy to cement Newsom's status as a 2028 presidential front runner. 5:05pm- Dr. 6:05pm- Make America Healthy Again: Rich notes one of the major shortcomings of the modern food pyramid: it fails to draw a distinction between healthy fats (like those found in avocados, nuts, and olive ...
