Last week we thought about knowing God and knowing ourselves and how the two are linked, this week we looked directly at seeking God's will and the four wills of God. - God's sovereign will, hidden and revealed. - God's particular will, moral and directive. Some conclusions - God's sovereign will cannot fail. Seeking God's will is about becoming aligning to God's story, not trying to bring him into our story. Two things to remember at the start of this New Year, no matter what the year looks like it might hold: 1. The journey is more important than the destination - this doesn't mean outcomes are wrong, but it does mean God looks for obedience and faithfulness as the most important things. 2. But without a vision of what freedom is for, we end up living for a freedom that is purely negative – an unreal freedom. Pursuing this unreality leaves us empty and isolated. In this video we explore why that answer is problematic, leads us into UNREALITY and contributing to some of the major crises we are facing in our world. We also suggest that the Christian worldview proposes a different identity question – not “who am I?” but “WHOSE am I?”. This question leads to an understanding of identity that is both more in touch with reality and offers true hope. WATCH this podcast in video form! You can find all our Unravelling material here

In Part 1 of Unravelling (Unravelling Culture) we are analysing not only what we think in our culture, but why we think what we think. In order to do this, we need to examine the stories that we tell one another – because the stories we tell shape the way we see the world. The identity politics and polarisation we are living in is driven, in part, by a particular view of power dynamics in society. We are told that we need a particular form of social justice that wants to change the way we use language, claims that only those in oppressed social groups know best and encourages a strong activist engagement in politics and education. This video explores how this story has developed from the Enlightenment, through Marx, Nietzsche, Freud, into what we now know as critical theory which is underwriting the way this story of power and oppression is being told today. In Part 1 of Unravelling (Unravelling Culture) we are analysing not only what we think in our culture, but why we think what we think. In order to do this, we need to examine the stories that we tell one another – because the stories we tell shape the way we see the world. Our contemporary culture claims that our identity – who we really are – is something that we get to choose, shape and define based on the way we think and feel about ourselves. This video explores how that story (which is now taken to be ‘common sense') has its roots in the Enlightenment and represents a very particular worldview based on atheistic assumptions.
