It's Thursday, March 6th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Nicaragua violated religious freedom 222 times last year Christian Solidarity Worldwide released a report Monday on the continued deterioration of religious freedom in Nicaragua. The report documented 222 cases of religious freedom violations in the Central American country last year. Authorities have prohibited churches from holding public religious processions. Pastors must report to designated police officers and submit their weekly plans. Christian Solidarity Worldwide noted, “Preaching about unity or justice or praying for imprisoned religious leaders or even the general situation in the country, for example, can be considered as criticism of the government and treated as a crime.” Nicaragua is ranked 30th on the Open Doors' World Watch List of nations where it is most difficult to be a Christian. South Korea's birthrate up South Korea's birthrate rose last year for the first time in nearly a decade. The country witnessed 238,300 births in 2024, up 3.6% from 2023. South Korea's fertility rate was 0.75 children per woman last year, up from 0.72 in 2023. It was 1.24 in 2015. South Korea is known for having one of the worst fertility rates in the world. The government has introduced pro-marriage policies in response. UK Christian groups organize Nat'l Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide Religious organizations in the United Kingdom are organizing a National Day of Prayer Against Assisted Suicide on March 25. The Christian Institute is leading the initiative in partnership with Affinity, CARE, the Christian Medical Fellowship, and the Evangelical Alliance. The U.K. parliament is currently considering a bill to legalize the killing of terminally ill adults who want to end their lives. Ciarán Kelly, the Director of The Christian Institute, said, “Now is a key moment to pray for the failure of efforts to legalize assisted suicide for ill and vulnerable people.” 40 Days for Life kicks off in 660 cities worldwide Pro-lifers around the world joined in the 40 Days for Life prayer campaign starting yesterday. People are praying for an end to the murder of unborn babies in 660 cities. The abortion mill in one of those cities is already expected to shut down. The Bloomington Police Department informed 40 Days for Life that the Planned Parenthood locations in Bloomington and Decatur, Illinois are closing for good. Colossians 4:2 says, “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” Trump opposes transgenderism in speech On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered an address to both chambers of Congress. His speech lasted over an hour and 40 minutes, a record for presidential addresses to Congress. Trump celebrated his first 43 days back in office. He criticized transgenderism and illegal immigration while promoting government cuts and tariffs. Trump called on Congress to ban so-called sex-change surgeries on children. TRUMP: “Shortly after taking office, I signed an executive order banning public schools from indoctrinating our children with transgender ideology. (applause) I also signed an order to cut off all taxpayer funding to any institution that engages in the sexual mutilation of our youth. (applause) “And now I want Congress to pass a bill permanently banning and criminalizing sex changes on children and forever ending the lie that any child is trapped in the wrong body. (applause) This is a big lie. And our message to every child in America is that you are perfect, exactly the way God made you.” (applause) According to a CBS News survey, a massive 76% of those watching said they approved of Trump's first second-term speech to Congress, reports One America News. Supreme Court votes against Trump's freeze of $2B to USAID The U.S. Supreme Court sided with a lower court against the Trump administration yesterday in a case involving USAID payments. The lower court ordered the administration to unfreeze $2 billion in foreign payments. The Supreme Court ruled 5-4. Justice Samuel Alito led the dissent, writing, “Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars? The answer to that question should be an emphatic ‘No,' but a majority of this Court apparently thinks otherwise. I am stunned.” Australian man with the golden arm dies at 88 And finally, a beloved Australian blood donor died recently at the age of 88. James Harrison was known as the “Man with the Golden Arm.” His blood contained the rare antibody called anti-D. The antibody is used in a medication for pregnant women whose blood might attack the unborn baby. Harrison donated blood and plasma 1,173 times between 1954 and 2018. He's credited with saving the lives of 2.4 million babies! Stephen Cornelissen with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service said, “James was a remarkable, stoically kind and generous person who was committed to a lifetime of giving and he captured the hearts of many people around the world.” In Acts 20:35, the Apostle Paul said, “And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.' ” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, March 6th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Easier for students to come out as gay than Christian, Evangelical group says Christian Post, By Anugrah Kumar, on November 11, 2024 https://www.christianpost.com/news/easier-for-students-to-come-out-as-gay-than-christian.htmlThe panel discussed a growing cultural conflict in Northern Ireland surrounding Christian versus secular education, with a focus on sexuality and reproductive health. Jonathan highlighted concerns raised by a representative of the Evangelical Alliance, Mr. Smyth, about the school system teaching "inappropriate" sexual information, allegedly conflating biological sex and gender identity, and including "dangerous practices." Smyth claimed he sought common ground but opposed scientifically accurate, inclusive education, particularly concerning abortion and gender identity.Cindy criticized the Christian victimhood narrative, highlighting the absurdity of equating religious "oppression" with LGBTQ+ struggles. She emphasized the historic harm perpetuated by religious institutions and called out their attempts to stifle scientific and social progress. AJ noted Northern Ireland's success in maintaining secular education, contrasting it with U.S. challenges, and pointed out Smyth's hypocrisy in labeling inclusive education as ideological pressure while promoting religious indoctrination. The panel agreed that Smyth's testimony likely stemmed from new mandatory curriculum regulations on abortion and reproductive health, which he saw as excluding Christian perspectives. They criticized his framing of secular inclusivity as an attack on religious freedom. Cindy linked this to broader culture wars, emphasizing that lumping abortion, LGBTQ+ rights, and other progressive issues into one "far-left" narrative is a common conservative tactic. The Non-Prophets, Episode 23.47.2 featuring Kelley Laughlin, AJ, Jonathan Roudabush and Cindy PlazaBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-non-prophets--3254964/support.

It's Wednesday, October 9th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 125 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark 18 Christians arrested in India for evangelism Police in India arrested 18 Christians recently on false charges of trying to forcefully convert school children. The men and women were sharing the Gospel in the villages of India's eastern state of Bihar. A school even game them permission to enter, where they shared New Testaments with the children. Police found nothing wrong with the Christians' actions. However, local Hindu leaders threatened massive protests if the Christians were released. A local pastor told International Christian Concern, “The police also impounded our vehicles without any reason and have booked the case purely due to coercion by the Hindu fanatics.” Evangelical Alliance UK is on the rise As we reported yesterday, atheism is on the rise in the U.K., so much so that researchers are calling it the country's “first atheist age.” However, another group is also growing there—Evangelicals. The Evangelical Alliance UK increased by 5,000 members in the past year, bringing total membership to 23,000. That's the largest growth the alliance has seen in 30 years. Gavin Calver is the CEO of the Evangelical Alliance. He said, “We must hold our nerve theologically. Do not compromise on the things that matter in the Word of God, no matter what the price tag within your culture, and then go for it wholeheartedly in sharing the Gospel.” In 1 Corinthians 15:58, the Apostle Paul wrote, “My beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.” Supreme Court: Biden cannot force ER doctors to murder babies On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the Biden administration cannot force emergency room doctors in Texas to murder unborn babies. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote, “This is a major victory at the Supreme Court that will protect Texas medical providers from being forced to violate State law. No Texas doctor should be forced to violate his or her conscience or the law just to do their job. We successfully sued and stopped the Biden-Harris Administration's backdoor attempt to overrule State abortion laws.” Proverbs 1:16 says, “For their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed blood.” Georgia Supreme Court affirmed Heartbeat Law In another abortion case, the Georgia Supreme Court reinstated the state's LIFE Act on Monday. The measure bans most abortions once a baby's heartbeat is detectable. A lower court had struck down the law, saying it violated privacy rights. Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr appealed the ruling, writing in a court filing, “There is nothing legally private about ending the life of an unborn child.” Trump returned to Butler, Pennsylvania Former President Donald Trump held a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday. It's the first time he's returned to the location after surviving an assassination attempt during a rally there in July. Tech billionaire Elon Musk joined Trump at the latest rally of 60,000 people. Musk called the upcoming presidential election a must-win situation for freedom of speech. MUSK: “This election is the most important election of our lifetime. This is no ordinary election. The other side wants to take away your freedom of speech. They want to take away your right to bear arms. Free speech is the bedrock of democracy. “If people don't know what's going on, if they don't know the truth, how can you make an informed vote? You must have free speech in order to have democracy. That's why it's the First Amendment.” Parents fear public school kids might be shot in school shooting CNN reports that parents are nervous about sending their children back into public schools after school shootings. Following the mass attack at Winder's Apalachee High School in early September, Georgia police departments arrested at least 24 youths for registering more threats of violent attacks on schools. And Florida's Volusia county sheriff counts 282 bogus written threats to kill or shoot up a school during the first three weeks of school this fall. Study: Skyrocketing increase in violent threats in public schools A recent study on school threats issued last year by the American Psychological Association records an increase in School Shooting threats after the pandemic. The report documented “a 985% increase in 2021/2022 from 2020/2021, and a 244% increase in 2021/2022 compared to pre-pandemic rates.” 6% of U.S. students are homeschooled now And finally, in the fall of 2023, 6% of school aged children are homeschooled now in America. Homeschooling rates are highest in Montana, South Dakota, Alaska, Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, and New Hampshire. Kansas has the lowest rate of homeschoolers, reports Teacher certification.com. We in the UK have been startled by the sudden announcement from the prime minister that our general election, due at the end of the year, would actually be held in six weeks' time in early July. In this episode we reflect on why Christians are so politically engaged in Britain, with research suggesting they are much more likely to vote, join a party, and campaign than the general public. Why has modern Christianity become so thoroughly pro-democracy, even as our secular states veer further and further from Christian values? Do we need a more robust theology of politics and government in response to the many 21st century countries challenging its supremacy? And is modern technology, in particular AI, threatening the foundations we need to make democracy work? • Tim has written more about research into how British Christians vote and why in his Substack newsletter here: https://tswyatt.substack.com/p/the-bible-and-the-ballot-box • AI and epistemic risk paper: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=4805026 • The Evangelical Alliance survey of Christians and politics https://www.eauk.org/general-election/thinking-faithfully-about-politics • Research by the Theos thinktank on a similar topic https://www.theosthinktank.co.uk/research/2024/05/15/religion-counts-do-the-religious-vote • Subscribe to the Matters of Life and Death podcast: https://pod.link/1509923173 • If you want to go deeper into some of the topics we discuss, visit John's website: http://www.johnwyatt.com • For more resources to help you explore faith and the big questions, visit: http://www.premierunbelievable.com

It's an EmMajority Report Thursday! Emma speaks with writer and historian Rebecca Jane Morgan to discuss their recent book Gender Heretics: Evangelicals, Feminists, and the Alliance against Trans Liberation. Then, she speaks with Jonah Walters, postdoctoral scholar at UCLA's Institute for Society and Genetics, to discuss a book compilation he co-edited entitled Only The Good Die Young: The Verdict Against Henry Kissinger, published via Jacobin and Verso Books. First, Emma runs through updates on Jake Sullivan's visit to various authoritarian utopias, Israel's indiscriminate bombing, growing backlash to Israel, Biden's bleak polling, the House impeachment inquiry, January 6th, and Floridian education action, before touching on Israel's abuse of the Two-State solution. Rebecca Jane Morgan then joins, first taking on the definition of Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminism, before stepping back to walk through the longer history of Evangelical Christianity to trans identity, including a long period of a mixed yet positive recognition of the community – particularly with the parallels of “rebirth” – over the 20th Century. Moving into the 2000s, Morgan tackles the role of the Gender Recognition Act in the UK in igniting Evangelical backlash – largely because of its policies around same-sex marriage – whereas the US' legislative body took until the 2010s for the bathroom debate came to the fore. Rebecca concludes the conversation by walking through the particular alignment of Terfs and Evangelicals over their somatophobia towards trans people, and what that means for the fight for trans rights moving forward. Jonah Walters and Emma then explore the life and legacy of Henry Kissinger as they walk through his prevalent (and bipartisan) role in US politics, and his ideological grounding in pure American hegemony, before stepping back to assess the importance of his rise to power during the Cold War, bolstering the growth of America's capital order internationally while continuously and intentionally undermining any liberatory and anti-capitalist movements in the third world. Wrapping up, Walters parses through the obscene death count that follows Kissinger to his grave. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they talk with Eddie from Ft. Worth about culturally undermining the KKK, explore the absolute vitriol that zionists have been leveling against their students, and discuss the return of severe islamophobia in the form of fear-of-arabic-words. Tommy the Music Guy tackles some music recommendations and explores tensions between the US and Mexico, and Josh Hawley presses a judicial nomination on the ethics of being brown, plus, your calls and IMs! It's Wednesday, November 1st, A.D. 2023. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark International Day of Prayer for persecuted this Sunday Persecution watchdog groups are calling on Christians around the world to pray for their suffering brothers and sisters in Christ this coming Sunday. On Sunday November 5th, the Evangelical Alliance will host an online event for the International Day of Prayer for the persecuted church. The event will include contributions from Release International, Open Doors, and Christian Solidarity Worldwide. The World Evangelical Alliance said, “According to the World Watch List, 5,621 Christians were killed, over 2,100 churches were attacked, and more than 4,500 Christians were detained for their faith in 2022. These staggering numbers highlight the harsh reality that many believers endure daily–harassment, discrimination, wrongful imprisonment, and even death for their devotion to Christ.” 1 Corinthians 12:26-27 says, “If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” Majority of Hamas' hostages are from Thailand Last Wednesday, the government of Israel said over half of the estimated 220 hostages held by Hamas, the Muslim terrorist group, have foreign passports. This includes people from the U.S., Germany, Argentina, France, Russia, and the Philippines. However, the largest national group is from Thailand, numbering 54 people. Thais are one of the largest sources of foreign labor in Israel with an estimated 30,000 in the country. Since the conflict erupted between Israel and Hamas this month, Thais accounted for the most foreign deaths and missing people. Overall, Israel reports the initial attack by Hamas killed 1,400 people. And Hamas reports over 8,300 people have died in Gaza since Israel responded with airstrikes. $14 billion aid bill for Israel In the U.S., House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana brought forward a $14 billion aid package for Israel on Monday. The legislation would do this by cutting an equal amount of funding from the Internal Revenue Service. The bill also separates funding for Israel from funding for Ukraine which the White House was seeking to combine into one package. America's growing economy U.S. economic growth beat expectations over the past few months. The Gross Domestic Product increased at an annual rate of 4.9 percent in the third quarter of 2023. That's up from 2.1 percent GDP growth in the second quarter, and above expectations of 4.7 percent growth. Much of the growth came from an increase in consumer spending on goods and services. It's also the biggest Gross Domestic Product gain since the fourth quarter of 2021. However, economists are expecting growth to slow over the next quarter. Parents lost custody of child over objection to transgender transition Shockingly, an Indiana married couple lost custody of their child because of their Biblical stance on sex and gender. It's a stark contrast with the state's commitment to providing what it calls “gender-affirming mental health care” to their son. Unbelievably, it was all done without the consent of the Christian parents. After losing their case at the Indiana Court of Appeals, Jeremy and Mary Cox have appealed their case to the U.S. Supreme Court. In more bad news, the courts have also barred the Christian parents' right to religious instruction in their own home. The Cox Family shared their story in a YouTube video. MARY COX: “We are speaking out about this case now because parental rights need to be protected in Indiana. Our family should have never had to go through this. We don't want any other family in Indiana to go through it either.” You can help the family through a link in our transcript today at TheWorldview.com. 40 Days for Life has saved 202 babies since September 27th And finally, 40 Days for Life has confirmed reports of 202 babies saved from abortion during its latest prayer campaign that started on September 27. Generally, the reports are confirmed by moms and dads telling on-site prayer warriors that they decided not to have an abortion. However, one report of a life saved came through a gift. Sheryl, a local campaign leader, shared, “Tom arrived early at the vigil site and discovered roses in a decorative glass dish with a note that read, 'She chose life!' In a prayer of thanksgiving for this mother choosing life, we placed the roses at the memorial for born and unborn children at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.” Psalm 82:3-4 says, “Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Close And that's The Worldview in 5 Minutes on this Wednesday, November 1st in the year of our Lord 2023. Everyone knows about the "culture wars" and some champion following Jesus as being "counter-cultural". What precisely is the relationship between the Christian faith and human culture? Reflecting well on that relationship and our own place in it can lead to some great insights into how we live out and share our faith. Helping us do that on PEP Talk today is a minister and academic with experience on both sides of the Atlantic. Rev Dr Anna Robbins is President of Acadia Divinity College in Nova Scotia, Canada. She has served several churches as an ordained minister of the Canadian Baptists of Atlantic Canada. Near the end of her doctoral studies in Wales (PhD 2001), she was appointed to the faculty of the London School of Theology in the UK where she served for 12 years. In London, she was theological consultant to organisations including Theos, Christians in Politics, Tearfund, and the Evangelical Alliance. She returned to Nova Scotia in 2012, where she lives with her husband and son.Support the show
