Daniel 7:1-28 Daniel's Vision of the Four Beasts 7In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel saw a dream and visions of his head as he lay in his bed. Then he wrote down the dream and told the sum of the matter.2Daniel declared,I saw in my vision by night, and behold, the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea.3And four great beasts came up out of the sea, different from one another.4The first was like a lion and had eagles' wings. Then as I looked its wings were plucked off, and it was lifted up from the ground and made to stand on two feet like a man, and the mind of a man was given to it.5And behold, another beast, a second one, like a bear. It was raised up on one side. It had three ribs in its mouth between its teeth; and it was told, Arise, devour much flesh.6After this I looked, and behold, another, like a leopard, with four wings of a bird on its back. And the beast had four heads, and dominion was given to it.7After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, terrifying and dreadful and exceedingly strong. It had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.8I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots. And behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things. The Ancient of Days Reigns 9As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat;his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool;his throne was fiery flames;its wheels were burning fire.10A stream of fire issuedand came out from before him;a thousand thousands served him,and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him;the court sat in judgment, and the books were opened. 11I looked then because of the sound of the great words that the horn was speaking. And as I looked, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire.12As for the rest of the beasts, their dominion was taken away, but their lives were prolonged for a season and a time. The Son of Man Is Given Dominion 13I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaventhere came one like a son of man,and he came to the Ancient of Daysand was presented before him.14And to him was given dominionand glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languagesshould serve him;his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom onethat shall not be destroyed. Daniel's Vision Interpreted 15As for me, Daniel, my spirit within me was anxious, and the visions of my head alarmed me.16I approached one of those who stood there and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me and made known to me the interpretation of the things.17These four great beasts are four kings who shall arise out of the earth.18But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, forever and ever. 19Then I desired to know the truth about the fourth beast, which was different from all the rest, exceedingly terrifying, with its teeth of iron and claws of bronze, and which devoured and broke in pieces and stamped what was left with its feet,20and about the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn that came up and before which three of them fell, the horn that had eyes and a mouth that spoke great things, and that seemed greater than its companions.21As I looked, this horn made war with the saints and prevailed over them,22until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was given for the saints of the Most High, and the time came when the saints possessed the kingdom. 23Thus he said: As for the fourth beast, there shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all the kingdoms, and it shall devour the whole earth, and trample it down, and break it to pieces.24As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them;he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.25He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law;and they shall be given into his handfor a time, times, and half a time.26But the court shall sit in judgment, and his dominion shall be taken away,to be consumed and destroyed to the end.27And the kingdom and the dominionand the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heavenshall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High;his kingdom shall be an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him. 28Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts greatly alarmed me, and my color changed, but I kept the matter in my heart.

"Take A Stand" is our series at Fusion Christian Church on having the courage to stand strong in the faith. From the book of Daniel we will learn what it takes follow God in a world that doesn't. In chapter 5, Pastor Matt teaches about the Fear of the Lord and what happens with or without it.No Fear of the Lord.In the story of Daniel, the King of Babylon, Belshazzar chose not to fear God. In fact, he chose to spite God by using the holy items from His temple for a party. Because of this behavior, God writes on the wall in the middle of this party a prophecy of impending doom. Even then, Belshazzar feels fear not of the Lord, but only for his own potential downfall. Refusing to listen to wisdom. To make matters worse, God had already demonstrated his greatness to Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar knew about it. Instead of learning from the mistakes of his predecessor, Belshazzar acted foolishly. He chose to mock the Most High God instead of honoring him. While the Persian army was waiting at the gates, Belshazzar threw caution to the wind and threw a party. Even when the prophecy was given, Belshazzar refused to change his ways. He chose to die in his sin and in rebellion against God.We will all be numbered, weighed, and judged.King Belshazzar's days were numbered, his actions were weighed, and his choices were judged. We will not escape this measuring by God. This is why it is so important for us to live in the Fear of the Lord. This means we recognize that God will hold us accountable for our decisions and live accordingly. Even so, we must recognize that living rightly will not save us. We are not good enough to earn our salvation, so part of the Fear of the Lord is trusting in him for salvation. Only Jesus lived a perfect life; we must trust in him. Our good works are a result of our faith in him; they do not save us.This impacts your life now! When we do all of this, we can see that the Fear of the Lord changes our lives now. This is not a distant reality, but a way of living. Choosing to live in the Fear of the Lord will affect every other choice we make in our lives. Honor and revere God first and you will begin to walk in wisdom.

Daniel 5:1-31 5King Belshazzar made a great feast for a thousand of his lords and drank wine in front of the thousand. 2Belshazzar, when he tasted the wine, commanded that the vessels of gold and of silver that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple in Jerusalem be brought, that the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines might drink from them.3Then they brought in the golden vessels that had been taken out of the temple, the house of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his lords, his wives, and his concubines drank from them.4They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. 5Immediately the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, opposite the lampstand. And the king saw the hand as it wrote.6Then the king's color changed, and his thoughts alarmed him; his limbs gave way, and his knees knocked together.7The king called loudly to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the astrologers. The king declared to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever reads this writing, and shows me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around his neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.8Then all the king's wise men came in, but they could not read the writing or make known to the king the interpretation.9Then King Belshazzar was greatly alarmed, and his color changed, and his lords were perplexed. 10The queen, because of the words of the king and his lords, came into the banqueting hall, and the queen declared, O king, live forever! Let not your thoughts alarm you or your color change.11There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, light and understanding and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him, and King Nebuchadnezzar, your fatheryour father the kingmade him chief of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and astrologers,12because an excellent spirit, knowledge, and understanding to interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation. 13Then Daniel was brought in before the king. The king answered and said to Daniel, You are that Daniel, one of the exiles of Judah, whom the king my father brought from Judah.14I have heard of you that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.15Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me to read this writing and make known to me its interpretation, but they could not show the interpretation of the matter.16But I have heard that you can give interpretations and solve problems. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. 17Then Daniel answered and said before the king, Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another. Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king and make known to him the interpretation.18O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty.19And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled.20But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him.21He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.22And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,23but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored. 24Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed.25And this is the writing that was inscribed:Mene,Mene,Tekel, andParsin.26This is the interpretation of the matter:Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end;27Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting;28Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians. 29Then Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom. 30That very night Belshazzar the Chaldean king was killed.31And Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

Teacher: Mandi Paszek Text: Daniel 5:13–30 In this sermon from Daniel 5, Mandi reads the fall of Belshazzar as more than a history lesson—it's a mirror. When Daniel refuses the king's offer of status, wealth, and influence, we see something the ego almost never admits: that what the world calls security has never been able to hold. From Eden to empire, the same script keeps running, and only Jesus breaks it.

Do you find it difficult to be honest when you have to deliver bad news? It can feel risky especially when the outcome might affect your job or your relationships. The Prophet Daniel's life gives us a picture of what it means to be an authentic follower of Christ in tough moments. In Daniel chapter 5, Daniel serves under a different leader, yet he continues faithfully in his role. By this point, he has years of experience and a strong reputation, but his ultimate allegiance remains with God. The king hosts a lavish feast, openly displaying his power and wealth. In his arrogance, he orders the sacred vessels taken from God's temple in Jerusalem to be used at the party. Not only are they misused, but the king and his guests praise false gods of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone instead of honoring the living God. Suddenly, the mood shifts. A hand appears and writes a message on the wall. The once-confident king is filled with fear. After exhausting all other options to determine what the message says, someone suggests calling Daniel to interpret the message. It's interesting that Daniel wasn't the king's first choice. Perhaps, deep down, the king already knew he had crossed a line and didn't want to face the truth. When Daniel arrives, he speaks with respect but also with courage and clarity. He refuses the king's rewards, making it clear his message is not influenced by personal gain. As an authentic follower of God, Daniel is not driven by approval or advancement but by obedience to God. He reminds the king of how God dealt with Nebuchadnezzar and then confronts Belshazzar directly. He tells him plainly he has not humbled himself, he has dishonored God, and his kingdom will be taken from him. It is a hard message and a dangerous one to deliver. Yet, Daniel speaks the truth and leaves the outcome in God's hands. The outcome was King Belshazzar was slain that same evening and his kingdom was conquered by Darius the Mede. Daniel's example challenges us. Where are you being called to speak truth right now? Maybe it's in your workplace or in a relationship, and you're afraid of the consequences. Being an authentic follower of Christ doesn't mean being harsh or defensive. It means speaking truth with humility and respect, without compromising. It means trusting God enough to obey him, even when the outcome feels uncertain. Like Daniel, we can choose faithfulness over fear and trust God with whatever comes next.

What happens when you know the truth but choose to ignore it?In this message from Daniel 5, we walk through the story of King Belshazzar and the moment known as the handwriting on the wall. This is not just history. It is a warning about pride, about treating what is holy as common, and about what happens when we reject what we already know is true.Belshazzar had seen what God did in the life of Nebuchadnezzar. He knew the truth. Instead of humbling himself, he chose pride, and it cost him everything. This message challenges us to ask a direct question. Are we living like Daniel or like Belshazzar? In this message, you will learn:- Why knowing God is not the same as following God- The danger of pride and informed rebellion- What it means to treat holy things with honor- How God's patience works and where the limit is- How this story applies to our lives todayGod's Word always comes to pass. The question is how you will respond.

This Sunday, we'll be in Daniel chapter 5, the account that gives us the familiar phrase “the handwriting on the wall.” The story centers on King Belshazzar, who throws a massive celebration in Babylon while the Persian army is already surrounding the city. In the middle of the feast he commits a brazen act of arrogance by using the sacred vessels taken from the temple in Jerusalem to toast false gods. What follows is one of the most dramatic scenes in Scripture - God interrupts the party as a mysterious hand appears and writes a message of judgment on the palace wall. When Daniel is brought in to interpret the writing, he reminds the king of what happened to his predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar had learned the hard lesson that God rules over the kingdoms of men, but Belshazzar ignored that warning and hardened his heart. The words written on the wall - Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin - announce God's verdict: the king's days are numbered, his life has been weighed and found wanting, and his kingdom will be taken from him. That very night, the Persians enter the city, Babylon falls, and the king dies. This passage is a sobering reminder that pride can blind us to reality. Belshazzar partied with the enemy already at the gate, convinced he was untouchable. The message of Daniel 5 shows us that what belongs to God should never be used to celebrate sin, and that every life will one day be weighed by God's standard. The good news of the gospel is that while all of us would be found wanting on our own, Christ was weighed and found perfect in our place. Christians are those who have learned to read the writing on the wall and place their hope in Him.

God calls the proud to humble themselves. What happens, though, when the proud refuse to be humbled? "... The God in whose hand are your life-breath and all your ways, you have not honored... you have been weighed on the scales and found lacking," Daniel 5:23,27 (LSB). Babylon's acting king, Belshazzar, ignored history, shut his eyes to God's revelation, and disregarded prophetic warnings. He partied and pretended importance while enemy armies camped around his capitol city. The handwriting on the wall of his extravagant banquet hall turned Belshazzar's proud revelry to reality: "That same night the Chaldean king was killed," Daniel 5:30. Belshazzar's end still warns us today: God's sovereign justice is at times swift and final. For God's people living in exile, the proud king's fall is an encouragement that no arrogant empire or ruler stands forever. God will bring down all the proud; some He humbles and restores. Others He humbles and judges with finality. God's people find their hope in the One whose life was weighed and found perfect, lacking in nothing. The perfect righteousness of Christ is our only safe harbor from the wrath that awaits all who are judged by their own merit. I hope you'll join us this Sunday as we turn to Daniel 5 and consider, "God's People in Exile: Weighed and Found Lacking." Prepare for Sunday: Read all of Daniel 5 and meditate on verses 22-30. Based on the text, how would you describe Belshazzar's feast? What is his tone in speaking to Daniel? Why does Daniel emphasize "even though you knew all this" in verse 22? What does the writing on the wall reveal about God's justice? On what scale are we tempted to "weigh" our

When God's warnings are ignored, judgment often comes suddenly and decisively. Pastor Wesley Welch walks through Daniel 5, unpacking the fall of Belshazzar and the mysterious writing on the wall as a sobering reminder of God's holiness. The passage shows that pride and disregard for God lead to destruction, while He alone weighs the hearts of kings and kingdoms. We are called to examine our lives, honor the Lord, and respond to His warnings with humility and repentance.

Daniel 5:22–28, 30, Luke 12:13–21Daniel said to Belshazzar, “You knew what happened to your father, yet you did not humble your heart. Instead, you praised idols and did not honor God. The hand wrote: ‘MENE, MENE, TEKEL, PARSIN.' God has numbered your days and brought your reign to an end.” That very night, Belshazzar was killed. Both Belshazzar and the rich fool are unaware that judgment is imminent. Jesus, like Daniel, warns against arrogance and false security. Daniel 5:22–28, 30And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this, but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.“Then from his presence the hand was sent, and this writing was inscribed. And this is the writing that was inscribed: Mene, Mene, Tekel, and Parsin. This is the interpretation of the matter: Mene, God has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to an end; Tekel, you have been weighed in the balances and found wanting; Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians.”Luke 12:13–21Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?” And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man produced plentifully, and he thought to himself, ‘What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' And he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”' But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God.”

It's a sad thing when kings and rulers are childish and foolish, like Belshazzar, instead of being leaders of honor who live up to their name. The country falls apart and decays when rulers act foolish. Thankfully, the King of kings knew when it was the proper time to feast at a wedding, and when it was time for Him to go to the cross and do His Kingly duty of winning the victory over sin and death. Even when there may be plenty of bread and wine, and a tyrant is living in decadent luxury, there may sometimes still be decay in the works. But you should still watch your words and your thoughts, because these failing kings can be even more dangerous than ever when their kingdoms are collapsing and crumbling. We must still honor the rulers God has placed over us, even if they are not righteous, and we should pray for them to reform themselves. We live in a situation of "already and not yet." Jesus has given us a feast of bread and wine. Our King has won the battle and we know He is coming again. Don't be surprised, though, when childish rulers act like foolish tyrants; and don't put your trust in them. Pray for them, entrust the situation to the Lord, and serve Him. King Jesus still reigns over the nations.

So the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. 4 They drank wine and praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone. 5 At that moment the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall of the king's palace, opposite the lampstand, and the king saw the back of the hand that was writing. 6 Then the king's cheerful appearance changed, his face grew pale, [2] and his thoughts troubled him. His legs went limp, and his knees knocked together. 7 The king called out loudly to bring the spell casters, the astrologers, and the diviners. The king said to the wise men of Babylon, “Whoever is able to read this writing and explain its meaning will be clothed in purple, with a gold chain around his neck, and he will rule as third highest in the kingdom.” 8 Then all the king's wise men came in, but they were not able to read the writing or tell the king what it meant. 9 Then King Belshazzar was really terrified. He grew even paler, and his nobles were perplexed. 10 The queen [3] came to the drinking party [4] because of the words of the king and his nobles. The queen said, “Your Majesty, may you live forever! Do not let your thoughts trouble you, and do not look so frightened. 11 There is a man in your kingdom in whom is a spirit of the holy gods. In the days of your father, enlightenment, insight, and wisdom like the wisdom of the gods were found in him. So King Nebuchadnezzar your father, your father the king, appointed him chief of the magicians, spell casters, astrologers, and diviners, 12 because an outstanding spirit and knowledge and insight in interpreting dreams and explaining riddles and solving knotty problems were found in this Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be summoned, and he will explain the meaning of the writing.” Daniel Interprets the Writing 13 Then Daniel was brought before the king. The king said to Daniel, “Are you Daniel, one of the Judean exiles whom my father the king brought from Judah? 14 I have heard about you that a spirit of the gods is in you, and enlightenment and insight and outstanding wisdom are found in you. 15 Now, those wise men who are the spell casters were brought before me to read this writing and to make its meaning known to me, but they were not able to explain the meaning of the message. 16 Yet I have heard about you that you are able to explain meanings clearly and to solve knotty problems. Therefore, if you are able to read the writing and make its meaning known to me, you will be clothed in purple, with a gold chain around your neck, and you will rule as the third in the kingdom.” 17 Then Daniel answered the king: Keep your gifts for yourself, or give your rewards to someone else! Nevertheless, I will read the writing to the king, and I will make its meaning known to him. 18 As for you, Your Majesty—the Most High God gave the kingdom, greatness, splendor, and glory to Nebuchadnezzar, your father. 19 So because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and were afraid in his presence. He killed whomever he wanted, and he let live whomever he wanted. Also, he promoted anyone he wanted, and he demoted anyone he wanted. 20 But when he thought too much of himself, and his spirit became hardened in pride so that he acted arrogantly, he was deposed from the throne of his kingdom, and his splendor was taken away from him. 21 He was driven away from humans, and his mind was changed to that of an animal. So his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass as bulls are fed, and his body was wet with dew from the sky, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdoms of men, and he raises up over them anyone he desires. 22 But you, his son, Belshazzar, did not humble your heart although you knew all this. 23 Instead, you lifted yourself against the Lord of Heaven. The vessels from his house were brought before you, and you and your nobles, your wives and your concubines drank wine from them. Then you praised the gods of silver, gold, bronze, iron, wood, and stone, who do not see and do not hear and do not know. But you did not honor the God who holds your breath in his hand and who controls all your ways. 24 So the back of the hand was sent by him, and this writing was inscribed. 25 Now this is the writing that was inscribed: mene mene tekel and parsin 26 This is the meaning of the message: Mene [5] means that God has counted up your kingdom and paid it out or spent it. 27 Tekel [6] means that you have been weighed in the scales, and you are too light. 28 Parsin [7] means that your kingdom has been broken in two and given to the Medes and the Persians. 29 Then Belshazzar spoke, and they dressed Daniel in purple, with a gold chain around his neck, and they made him the third highest ruler in the kingdom. Darius Receives the Kingdom 30 That very night, King Belshazzar the Chaldean was killed. 31 Then Darius the Mede received the kingdom, when he was about sixty-two years old. [8] Footnotes Daniel 5:2 That is, his royal predecessor, not his physical father Daniel 5:6 Literally his brightness changed Daniel 5:10 Perhaps the king's mother or grandmother, a daughter or granddaughter of Nebuchadnezzar Daniel 5:10 Literally house of drinking Daniel 5:26 Mene means “measured” or “counted” and suggests mina, a unit for weighing money. Daniel 5:27 Tekel means “weighed” and suggests shekel, a unit for weighing money. Daniel 5:28 Parsin means “divided” and suggests half shekel. It also sounds like the word “Persians.” Daniel 5:31 English verse 5:31 is 6:1 in Hebrew. Throughout the rest of chapter 6, the English verse numbers are one number lower than the Hebrew numbers. #top .hr.hr-invisible.av-aocsdx-89cb4ca21532423cf697fc393b6fcee0{ height:10px; } The Holy Bible, Evangelical Heritage Version®, EHV®, © 2019 Wartburg Project, Inc. “Eat, drink, and be merry”.  Most people probably don't say it quite so obviously, but their overarching rule of life is to think about what they want – today.  Everything in this world is designed to keep your attention fixed on the NOW.  And especially, don't worry about what may come after this life. Today, Pastor Mark shows that this present world culture isn't really anything new.  And he illustrates it with an incident that happened to an overconfident king named Belshazzar*.  What's your focus?  Yes, take care of what you need to in this present world.  But always keep your vision locked steadfastly upon God.

Start with a prophecy almost everyone agrees is important but few claim to understand: Daniel 9. Now imagine testing it with modern calendars, archaeological finds, and arithmetic simple enough for a pocket calculator. That's the journey we take with chemist and author James Brown, who argues that Daniel's timeline doesn't just gesture at a vague era; it targets key dates in the life of Jesus and links to milestones in recent history with day-level precision. We walk through James's personal shift from cultural apathy to evidence-driven faith, sparked by fatherhood and a Bible study that refused to leave Daniel 9 in the fog. He explains how earlier giants like Newton and Anderson got close but lacked twentieth-century data and calendrical corrections. Then the conversation broadens: Ezekiel 4's cryptic count suddenly slots into place, Jeremiah's seventy years connect to Daniel's captivity marker, and two modern events—Israel's statehood in 1948 and Jerusalem's 1967 reunification—emerge as verifiable waypoints in the same framework.Along the way, we revisit the surprises archaeology has delivered, from the Hittites to Belshazzar, and we follow the trail to the Great Isaiah Scroll, carbon-dated to about 125 BC and preserving Isaiah 52:13–53:12 with striking clarity. James contends these threads knit together three objective proofs: God exists, Jesus is the promised Messiah, and Scripture carries reliable prophecy and fulfillment. No advanced math, no shifting rules—just one consistent method, audited and reproducible. If you've wanted more than slogans—if you've wanted reasons you can check—this conversation lays out the timelines, sources, and safeguards. Listen, take notes, and test it for yourself. If it holds, share the episode with someone who loves data as much as they love big questions. He has given us literary wonders like “A Gentleman in Moscow” and “The Lincoln Highway.” This excerpt is from page 302 of his novel, “Table for Two.”Big Bob Bigelow will read it to us.Eve could not pinpoint when her dislike for lists began, but it must have been around the time she was twelve. It was in the basement of St. Mary's, where she and the rest of the sixth graders were charged with memorizing the Ten Commandments.“Thou shalt not this.”
“Thou shalt not that.”
“And thou shalt not the other thing.”Then there was the list painted on the sign at the country club pool to remind the children there would be…“No Running.”
“No Diving.”
“No Splashing.”But most important was her mother's ever-expanding list of what a young lady should not do. Like put her elbows on the table, or speak with her mouth full, or slug her...

There are a few different ways to look at the structure of the book of Daniel, and one of them is to note that the first six chapters are comprised of narratives that contain prophecy, while the last six chapters are prophecies that contain history. The first four chapters occurred under Nebuchadnezzar, while today's chapters occur in further successive time periods under Belshazzar, Darius the Mede, and Cyrus the Persian. Later chapters, however, do not maintain a chronological order. Each account shows God's supreme authority over all kings and kingdoms as those who attempt to thwart the Lord's authority are all shown to be weak and handily defeated.Daniel 5 - 1:03 . Daniel 6 - 9:01 . Proverbs 27:14-27 - 15:37 .  :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Bible.facebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

Christians and alcohol. Few topics are more common in our culture and more ignored in the pulpit. In this sermon, Pastor Harold Warner takes Ephesians 5 head on and asks a blunt question: Are you living under the influence of alcohol, or under the influence of the Holy Spirit?Preached in a season of “holiday cheer,” this message exposes the cultural propaganda around drinking, walks through the Bible's real portrait of alcohol, and presses into the thing that actually matters: your testimony, your calling, and being filled with the Spirit.Scriptures Mentioned: • Ephesians 5:15–21 • Galatians 5:16–21 • 1 Peter 4:1–5 • Proverbs 20:1, Proverbs 23:29–35 • Romans 13:13–14 • Romans 12:1–2In this message you will hear about: • “Sipping saints” and why the line is never as clean as people pretend • The war between flesh and Spirit, and what alcohol is really feeding • Why the Bible's “ad” for drinking looks nothing like Madison Avenue • Noah, Lot, Nabal, Belshazzar, and the wreckage that follows drunkenness • How Christian liberty can become a stumbling block for weaker believers • Why a Spirit filled life is not optional if you want to impact people • The power of a clear cut, no nonsense testimony in a foggy worldIf you are wrestling with the “gray areas,” or if you have quietly opened the door to “just a little” alcohol, this sermon will not stroke your conscience. It will confront it, and then point you to something far better: a life filled with the Holy Spirit.Subscribe for more classic sermons that challenge easy Christianity and call men and women to radical discipleship, church planting, and world evangelism.Chapters00:00 Welcome, intro, and sermon setup00:31 Text in Ephesians and direction of the message00:49 Turning 60, family reunion, and midnight karaoke exit02:08 “Sinners do what sinners do” and Christian witness03:20 America's drinking problem and “sipping saints”05:03 Holiday Cheer: Living under the influence07:23 “You've wasted enough of your past life”09:12 Spirits vs the Holy Spirit: where your stimulus comes from11:34 The war between flesh and Spirit15:22 College culture, deception, and open doors to the enemy19:47 The Bible's beer commercial: Proverbs 2323:53 Testimony, liberty, and not stumbling weaker believers30:34 Last days warnings and the need for clarity37:58 New life, renewed mind, and breaking from the old life44:20 “Is this bud for you?” and the call to be filled with the SpiritShow NotesALL PROCEEDS GO TO WORLD EVANGELISMLocate a CFM Church near you: https://cfmmap.orgWe need five-star reviews! Have you heard the phrase “The writing is on the wall?” It usually means that something bad is about to happen; that your fate has been sealed. That phrase actually comes from Daniel, Chapter 5. Belshazzar is hosting a party when suddenly a mysterious floating hand appears and begins to carve a message into the plaster on the wall. Talk about terrifying! It begins etching 3 mysterious words into the wall, and then just disappears? The 3 words were “numbered,” “weighed,” and “divided.” And they brought in Daniel to help interpret what these words could mean.
