Just because something looks like the right thing to do, just because all the circumstances point that way, just because one's own desires affirm the move, and just because everyone else urges it as the sensible thing to do, it does not necessarily follow that it is the will of God. The important question to ask is, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Your great desire ought to be to know His will. Your great delight will be to do His will. Your great danger is to refuse His will. The truth about God's will is that guidance is promised. God wants you to know His will for your life. He will make it known to you, if you are willing to fully surrender your life to Jesus Christ. Now, it may sound simplistic, but the will of God for you is Jesus, just Jesus. Jesus is the head of the church, and the church is the body. What is the will of my body? My head. Who is my head? Jesus. What is the will of the church of the body of believers? Jesus, the head of the church. The will of God for your life is Jesus. He is your Lord. Know Him, know the will of God. Here are three principles about the will of God: • The will of God is for your welfare. It is not something you have to do; it is something you get to do. • The will of God will never take you where the power of God and the grace of God cannot enable and keep you. • You are free to choose. God will never force His will upon you. You are free to choose His will. You are not free not to choose. You have to make a choice. When you say, “Well, I just won't choose anything.” You just made a choice. You are free to choose, you are not free to choose the consequences of your choice. You make a choice and the choice chooses the consequences for you. Click on the link below to hear a message on how you can know the will of God for your life. In this episode of Anchored in the Word, Dave Jenkins explains how the Holy Spirit leads believers according to the Word of God—not through subjective feelings or impressions. This episode addresses a critical issue in the modern church: confusion about spiritual guidance. Many claim inner impressions as divine leading, but Scripture teaches that the Spirit leads through the truth He has already revealed. Key truths include: The Spirit always leads through Scripture The Spirit illuminates and applies the Word True leading produces holiness and Christlike character Feelings are real but not authoritative God's will is revealed in His Word Christians are called to test everything, hold fast to what is good, and anchor their lives in the truth of Scripture. How the Holy Spirit Leads Through Scripture Not Feelings Dave Jenkins | Anchored in the Word | Servants of Grace Show Summary How does the Holy Spirit lead believers according to the Word of God and not according to subjective impressions or feelings? In this episode of Anchored in the Word, Dave Jenkins answers an important question about spiritual guidance, discernment, and sanctification. In a time when many people define the Spirit's leading by personal impressions, inner peace, or emotional certainty, Scripture gives us a far more reliable foundation. This episode explains that the Holy Spirit never leads believers away from the truth He inspired. Instead, He leads God's people through the Word of God, producing holiness, obedience, discernment, and Christlike character. Audio Player Video Player Episode Highlights The Spirit of God always leads through the Word of God The Spirit never contradicts Scripture Spiritual maturity is seen in holiness and obedience, not dramatic experiences Feelings are real, but they are not the final authority God's will is revealed primarily in His Word Believers must test teaching carefully and reject partial truth and subtle deception Key Scriptures John 16:13 2 Timothy 3:16–17 Hebrews 4:12 2 Peter 3:18 Luke 24:27 Luke 24:45 Galatians 5:22–23 Romans 8:13–14 Jeremiah 17:9 1 Thessalonians 4:3 John 17:17 Acts 17:11 1 Thessalonians 2:13 1 Thessalonians 5:21 Psalm 119:105 Full Article Many Christians today speak about spiritual guidance in deeply personal terms. They say things like, “The Spirit told me,” “I felt led,” or “God gave me peace about this.” While those phrases may sound sincere, the real issue is not whether they sound spiritual, but whether they reflect what Scripture actually teaches about the leading of the Holy Spirit. The Bible presents the Spirit's leading in a very different way than much of modern evangelical language does. The Holy Spirit does not lead believers away from the Word of God, beyond the Word of God, or in contradiction to the Word of God. He leads believers through the Word He inspired. That is where discernment begins. That is where spiritual maturity grows. That is where true assurance and stability are found. Jesus says in John 16:13, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.” That statement matters greatly. The Spirit is the Spirit of truth. He does not guide believers into confusion, contradiction, or self-defined spirituality. He guides them into truth. And since Scripture is the truth that He inspired, His ministry is never detached from the written Word of God. That is why 2 Timothy 3:16–17 is so important. All Scripture is breathed out by God and is sufficient for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. The same Spirit who inspired the Word now uses the Word to shape the people of God. He leads us not by bypassing Scripture, but by bringing us deeper into it. He uses the Word to expose sin, renew the mind, strengthen faith, and train believers in obedience. This means that true spiritual guidance is not mainly about receiving private impressions. It is about being formed by divine revelation. The Spirit works through the means God has appointed. He illuminates the text, helps us understand its meaning, presses its truth upon our conscience, and empowers us to obey it. He does not lead us into self-trust, but into submission to Christ through His Word. Luke 24 helps us see this clearly. Jesus opened the minds of His disciples to understand the Scriptures, and He taught them that the whole Bible points to Him. The Spirit's ministry today follows that same Christ-centered pattern. He helps believers understand the Bible rightly, see how it testifies to Christ, and apply it faithfully in daily life. Spiritual growth is not mystical independence from the Bible. It is deeper dependence on the truth of God revealed in Scripture. That is also why the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22–23 matters so much. The Spirit's leading is seen not mainly in dramatic claims, but in transformed character. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are evidences of His work. Romans 8:13–14 adds that those who are led by the Spirit are those who, by the Spirit, put sin to death. In other words, the Spirit leads believers toward holiness, not toward self-centered certainty. This is where feelings must be put in their proper place. Feelings are real. Scripture speaks honestly about them, especially in the Psalms. But feelings are not infallible. Jeremiah 17:9 reminds us that the heart is deceitful. That means emotions, impressions, and internal sensations cannot serve as the final authority for the Christian life. They must be tested by the Word of God. Many spiritual errors begin here. People redefine obedience by their emotions. They confuse inner peace with divine approval. They assume that sincerity is the same thing as truth. But biblical peace does not come from personal preference. It comes from walking in the truth. God's will is revealed primarily in Scripture, and His great will for His people is their sanctification. As John 17:17 says, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.” God grows His people through His truth. So how do believers discern whether something is truly the Spirit's leading? A few questions help. Does it align with Scripture? Does it promote holiness? Does wise Christian counsel affirm it? Does it produce the fruit of the Spirit? If something contradicts the Bible, it is not from the Spirit. It does not matter how intense the feeling is, how persuasive the teacher sounds, or how attractive the message appears. The Spirit never contradicts Scripture. This is especially important in a time of subtle deception. Some teachers use Bible words but do not explain the Bible in context. Others give partial truth while avoiding the full meaning of a passage. Some appeal constantly to emotion, experience, and personal story while minimizing careful biblical interpretation. These are serious warning signs. Acts 17:11 commends the Bereans because they searched the Scriptures to test what they were hearing. 1 Thessalonians 5:21 commands believers to test everything and hold fast to what is good. That means faithful teaching should help Christians think biblically, read carefully, and grow in discernment. If a teacher encourages you to focus more on your feelings than on God's Word, more on your experience than on God's truth, or more on private impressions than on the meaning of Scripture, that teacher is not helping you. The Spirit of God always leads deeper into the truth of God's Word. There is actually great comfort in this. Many Christians worry that they are somehow missing God's voice. But the good news is that God has already spoken clearly, sufficiently, and finally in His Word. You do not need secret guidance. You need faithful obedience. The Spirit's work is often quiet, steady, and ordinary. He grows your love for Scripture. He convicts you of sin. He deepens your trust in Christ. He strengthens perseverance in the daily responsibilities of life. That is real spiritual maturity. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” That is how God leads His people. He does it by His truth. He does it through His Word. He does it by His Spirit. And because the Spirit never contradicts Scripture, believers can walk with confidence, clarity, and discernment as they stay anchored in Christ. Takeaways and Reflection Questions Am I looking to Scripture first when I need wisdom and direction? Have I confused strong feelings with the leading of God? Is my understanding of spiritual maturity shaped by holiness and obedience or by dramatic experiences? Do I test what I hear from teachers and preachers by the context and meaning of Scripture? How is the Spirit using the Word of God to grow me in Christlikeness today? This weekend we come to the festival of Pentecost, and focus on the work of God the Holy Spirit. It is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that we receive the benefits of Christ's work for sinners. The hymn we are studying this weekend is 234 in The Lutheran Hymnal: "Holy Ghost, with Light Divine" by English pastor and hymn writer, Andrew Reed. You will see in this hymn a very simple way of communicating the work of God the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit: Leads us from darkness into light. (Verse 1) Brings us to know and believe in Jesus. (Verse 2) Cleanses us of our sin by faith. (Verse 3) Imparts joy and peace to our burdened hearts. (Verse 4) Enables us to resist temptations. (Verse 5) Lives in us as His holy temples. (Verse 6) One of the Bible passages that serves as a foundation for this hymn is 1 Thessalonians 5:23: "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." Thank the LORD for the Holy Spirit's work! Rejoice in the peace, joy, forgiveness, life, light and knowledge that you have been give through His work in you through Word and Sacrament! Thanks be to God. Pray that He would continue that good work in you throughout your life! May the LORD bless your thankful worship through the work of the Holy Spirit this weekend!

In this week's episode of In The Room Podcast, we sit down with Jonah, Pastor Darius and Jean for a honest conversation about the difference between dead religion and a vibrant, Spirit-led life.Building off Pastor Troy's new sermon series, When the Holy Spirit Leads, we explore why recognizing and inviting the Holy Spirit into our daily lives is essential, not optional. Through personal testimonies and practical insight, this episode unpacks what it looks like to trust the Holy Spirit's leading and allow God's presence to shape how we live.
We can have real confidence in God. He knows what we are going through. On Sunday 8th February we continued our series on Acts, looking specifically at how Holy Spirit led Paul and how he leads us. 1. Holy Spirit guides through reason - God leads and guides through our reasoned minds and trusts us to make decisions. 2. Holy Spirit guides by the closing and opening of doors. 3. Holy Spirit guides us together. 4. Holy Spirit leads us in the big and the small. After his departure, Jesus would send his followers a Helper. This helper is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit lives within us and though we cannot see Him, we can feel him and we sense he is working in our lives to make us more like Jesus.Main Points:1. Although we cannot see the Holy Spirit, we should be able to sense His work in our lives changing us to be more like Jesus.2. Truth has never been more scarce than it is today. You and I live in a time where it is culturally appropriate to not believe in absolute truth. Rather, we are told that truth is personal. It is said that something may be true for one, but not true for another. Truth is what we want it to be. 3. In the last days many will be deceived by false teaching and false doctrine. None of us listening today believes we will be deceived, but there are many New Testament verses that speak of the deception of believers in the end times. So, we pay careful attention the Scriptures. We listen for the guidance and direction of the Holy Spirit so that we will stay focused on truth.Today's Scripture Verses:John 16:5-7 - “But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?' But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart. Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”John 16;13 - “…when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.”1 Timothy 4:1 - “The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow dQuick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

We are imperfect human beings, and we all have something we can work on. However, I encourage you not to change on your own will, but to change as the Holy Spirit leads you.
Before Jesus Christ ascended to heaven, he promised to send his Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us. But how does the Holy Spirit accomplish his ministry? How can we know if we are being led by the Holy Spirit? In this episode we want to walk through what scripture teaches about the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit. While theHoly Spirit is God and is therefore above our ability to completely understand, scripture teaches us that his ministry and leading can be understood. Because the Holy Spirit was sent by the Father and the Son and in their authority, he never comes with His own words, but teaches us and guides us to and through the Truth of God's Word. The Holy Spirit also came to make men Holy, to break the bondage and power of sin and to guide them to works of righteousness. We're so glad to have you listening. I'm Lynette Kittle. And today's topic is five ways the Holy Spirit leads us. We'll be right back after a brief message from our sponsor. "Five ways the Holy Spirit Leads Us" written and read by Lynette Kittle. "He tells them and I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever." John 14:16. How do we hear from God? For many we aren't expecting or waiting to hear from him, because we don't believe he will, or even wants to communicate directly with us. But Jesus who walked this world and personally spoke to the masses, tells us repeatedly that he is not leaving us alone, but sending us a Helper, the Holy Spirit, who will continue to lead us like he did with those who walked with him on earth. Jesus explained in John 14:26, "but the advocate the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of everything I have said to you." Following are five ways the Holy Spirit leads us. #1: God's Word. Foremost, the Holy Spirit talks to us through God's word, get it off and seems like it's the last place. Many Christians turn to hear his voice. Although the look for him to talk to them through a song or a passing billboard. Turning to his word seems like a last resort for them. Still, not only does the Holy Spirit speak through it, but he inspired it every word. 2 Timothy 3:16 explains how "all scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness" as well. The Holy Spirit actively speaks to us now. Through it Hebrews 4:12 describes, "for the Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing a soul and spirit, joints and marrow, it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart." #2: His Voice, Hebrews 3:7 teaches that we can hear His voice, leading us saying "so as the Holy Spirit says, Today, if you hear His voice," for most, this is an inward hearing of the Holy Spirit's voice, speaking to our hearts, but nevertheless he is speaking to us, teaching us and reminding us of everything Jesus told us. In John 16:13-14, Jesus assures us that the Holy Spirit speaks to us. "But when he the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own, he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify Me, because it is from me, that he will receive what he will make known to you." As Romans 8:16 assures "the Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children." #3: Through Prayer. Prayer is not just praying to God, but also about letting the Holy Spirit lead us in how to pray. Romans 8:26 explains how,"in the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for. but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us to wordless groans." as well. Ephesians 6:18 urges us "and pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all kinds of prayers and request. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." #4: Godly Counsel. The Holy Spirit leads us through Godly counsel, whether through trusted godly individuals we talked to who are led by Him, or by directly leading us. Psalm 16:7 describes how "I will praise the Lord who counsels me even at night, my hearts instructs me." Sometimes he speaks to us to other Christians. is an even at times through dreams while we're sleeping when he has our full and uninterrupted attention. #5 Nature. Many individuals have been led to God through observing and experiencing nature, seeing his handiwork in gaining understanding that there is a Creator who designed and formed at all. Romans 1:20 describes how, "For since the creation of the world, God's invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." Still, it's confusing to many believers, how and which person of the Triune God is leading them? The answer is all three in one. They're all three distinct person's yet unified in speaking to us. On Earth Jesus spoke with the father was speaking to him, John 14:31. And the Holy Spirit comes from the Father, speaking to us what Jesus said in John 15:26 Jesus explains, "when the advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who goes out from the Father, He will testify about Me," intersecting faith and life. Ask God to help you see how the Holy Spirit is leading you to impress upon your heart when he is speaking to you, and to open your ears to hear his voice. Most often, the nudges I sense from the Holy Spirit are not the big major life decisions but rather they come as a gentle whisper or quiet prompting about the more ordinary things in life. Friend, those little nudges come from the Holy Spirit every day and especially when you live daily with an openness to His activity in your life.
Episode #10 of the Art Throb Podcast features Steve Hester who will talk about his book Malchus and Me , a novel that retells the story of the Passion of Christ, but through the eyes of the motley crew from the wild side of Jerusalem who manage to get caught up in those final days. It is a story of salvation, told from the margins.Steve Hester grew up as the son of Southern Baptist missionaries, converting to Catholicism in his late twenties. He has been a landscaper, factory worker, farmer, store manager, slumlord, contractor and journalist, following wherever the Holy Spirit Leads. He was ordained as a Permanent Deacon in 2016 and currently serves his parish – Historic St. Paul's Catholic Church on Short Street in Downtown Lexington – in this role and as pastoral associate. He is vice president of Fortunate Families, a National LGBTQ Catholic Ministry and is also active in the LGBTQ ministry at his parish. He is married with two children. This book – Malchus and Me was published this year, it is the story of Jesus' final days, told through the eyes of Roman Soldier, a Temple Guard – both drunks and a brothel keeper. It is told in a contemporary colloquial style, with lots of wry humor, disbelief that turns to belief, interspersed with little biblical quotes to keep the reader on track. Hugely readable and relatable. Humorous and human.
This week's scripture, the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch, is one that Lance struggles with. But like the Ethiopian in the story, he doesn't give up - he keeps wrestling with it. The Ethiopian eunuch in this week's scripture was excluded from Jewish life, but Philip recognized that God had called him to witness to him, because God calls us to liminal spaces. Wouldn't we all do well to go when and where God sends us? fmhouston.com Acts 8:26-40
Ken tells the story of Phillip and the Ethiopian eunuch, and the ideology battle explored in the text. We want to figure life out. We want to do the right thing, but we get in our own way. Humanity always gets in its own way. The ends justifies the means always fail us. Pain always creeps in, justified by a noble purpose. But God's will is taking hold. It is continually unfolding. Hello Family!Welcome back! This is day 28 of our 54-Day Rosary Novena. Monday of the Third week of Lent. Family, Our mission is to make the 54-Day Rosary Novena available to those who seek God. My hopes and prayers are for people to fall in love with the Rosary, and through the intercession of our Blessed Virgin Mary, she may lead people closer to her Son.The Rosary has always been a part of my life; I have always asked our Blessed Mother to intercede for me. It wasn't until Covid that I started praying this 54-Day Rosary Novena because I sought the peace and love that only God can provide. Our Blessed Mother has gradually brought me closer to her son. I never imagined that I would be leading a rosary podcast, that I would be attending daily mass, and reading scripture daily. Just as our Blessed Mother has guided me back to her son, I know she can do the same for many more people. With your help, we will publish season 9 in Spanish and English. Our goal is to raise $5,000, and 100% of your donations go towards producing each season. Hello family!Happy Feast Day of Our Lady of the Rosary! This is day 54 of our 54-day Rosary Novena.Every year on October 7th, The Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, formerly known as Feast of Our Lady of Victory. Pope Pius the V, Established this feast in 1573 to thank God for a Christian military victory over the Turks- a victory attributed to the praying of the Rosary. The way we pray the rosary has developed over time. According to franciscanmedia.org. The Initial practice was to pray for 150 Our Fathers to imitate the 150 Psalms. Then there was a parallel practice of Praying 150 Hail Marys. In the 16th Century, the Rosary was developed to include 15 Mysteries of the life of Jesus; 5 Joyful, 5 Sorrowful, and 5 Glorious. In 2002, Pope John Paul II added the 5 Luminous Mysteries to the Rosary. The purpose of the Rosay is to help us meditate on the mysteries of our salvation: the birth of Jesus, His Life, death, and resurrection. The 54-Day Rosary Novena Originated In the Late 19th, Century when Mary made an apparition to a Young girl, Agrelli of Naples, Italy. Our Lady Queen of the Most Holy Rosary specified that whoever desired to obtain favors from her should make three novenas of the prayers of the Rosary in the petition, and three novenas in thanksgiving. On our website, you can read a bit more about the History of the 54-Day Rosary Novena.Today on the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, I share with you the joy of completing our 54-Day Rosary Novena. I Pray that through the intercession of Mary, your petitions are granted if it is God's Holy Will.We have completed our 54-day Rosary Novena, but I encourage you to continue praying the rosary daily. The Rosary is a beautiful prayer that we can use to draw closer to Jesus and Mary by Meditating on the great mysteries of our Salvation. God willing, our next 54-Day Rosary Novena will start on February 15 and end on April 9th. A beautiful way to prepare our hearts for Easter Sunday 2023. The Novena will be published in English and Spanish. Family, If you would like to support our ministry, Please continue to share the links to our podcast and website with your friends and family. To give you a quick update, we have prayed over 278,000 Raosaries since August 2020. With your help, we have created a beautiful family dedicated to prayer. I appreciate your commitment and dedication to prioritizing prayer and choosing God First. Thank you for joining us this season, and thank you for all your support.Family, I'd like to ask for your help with a small donation. This will allow us to publish season 8. I try to ask for the minimum to cover the cost of publishing a season. I usually just ask for donations to reach our goal of $3000. I don't ask for more as I cover the rest. Like this season, I will aim to produce the Spanish and English seasons with the same resources. As of today, we have raised $2,617. We are so close to reaching our goal we need an additional $383. If the Holy Spirit Leads you to support our Ministry, Please consider making a one-time donation or becoming a monthly sponsor. We need 80 Monthly sponsors to support our podcast year round and expand our mission to promote the Rosary. If, at this moment, you cannot support our ministry with a monetary donation, please consider supporting us by sharing the podcast with your friends and loved ones; you can leave us a rating and review on your podcast app. These small actions greatly help our mission to promote devotion to the rosary.
