Hello there you gorgeous listener you, and welcome to another episode of Stacey's Pop Culture Parlour! This month, I am joined by first time Parlour patron and lifelong nerdy type, Benjamin Connell, who chats with me about his new tabletop RPG inspired by the books of Brian Jacques, Heroes Of The Abbey. We also discuss some of our recent favourite movies, such as Companion, Heart Eyes, and M3GAN, as well as taking a little trip to Paradise and praising The Penguin. And, of course, I am talking about Severance again (I will stop talking about Severance when Severance stops being The Absolute Tits, so basically, never). Pop the kettle on and enjoy! (And for those also bothered by my terrible memory; the Cristin Milioti show I mentioned was Made For Love, and the Georgina Campbell movie was indeed called TIM) Benjamin's song choice & Stacey's song choice Benjamin's Linktree Stacey's Linktree Stacey's Bookworm Challenge Fundraiser Music by Starbomb

Does the Catholic Church hate gay people? Do people of faith just want those with same-sex attractions to suffer? Is it possible for the Church's teaching on sexual morality to be a source of unity among believers, whatever their sexual orientation? In this episode, Paul Senz talks to Fr. Mike Schmitz, host of the popular Bible in a Year podcast, about the Catholic Church's teaching on same-sex attraction, which Fr. Mike wrote about in his book “Made for Love” (https://bit.ly/3z9YkLN). Fr. Mike emphasizes the importance of not adopting an “us vs. them” attitude when discussing sexuality and identity; of approaching those with experiences of same-sex attraction with compassion, but not condescension; and of always keeping in mind that each of us was made by Love, from Love, and for Love.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, It also probably doesn't insert a chip in your head and then monitor your emotions and orgasms while looking out though your actual frigging eyes. Love is not a creepy-ass, manipulative, billionaire tech-mogul. And thankfully nor are we! Peta has suggested this dark sci-fi comedy for us to peruse and Quinny and Jill have strapped in for the bizarre and disturbing ride! Made for Love is an adaptation based on the tragicomic novel of the same name by Alissa Nutting. The series follows Hazel Green, a thirtysomething woman on the run after 10 years in a suffocating marriage to an unstable, needy, possibly sociopathic tech billionaire. Soon she discovers that her husband has already implanted a revolutionary monitoring device – the Made for Love – in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her, and know her thoughts and feelings as she tries to stay alive. This week, we're talking about shows in their second seasons, with one notable exception that's been around a lot longer. And we're talking about characters who, like fine wine, get better with age. There's season 2 of Girls5Eva, with its comeback girl band heroines, on Peacock. There's season 2 of Hacks, with its intergenerational comediennes, on HBO Max. There's the wisdom of age, sort of, that has come to Hazel and her dad, in season 2 of Made for Love, also on HBO Max. And there's the new season of Kids in the Hall on Prime, proving that even at 60-something, you can still be a kid, and still be weird and hilarious.

We chat about his new HBO film, The Survivor, where he co-stars alongside Ben Foster in this film directed by Barry Levinson. He's also kicking off season 2 of the HBO Max series, Made For Love with co-star Cristin Milioti. Billy's been staying busy, having recently co-starred alongside Daniel Craig and Jeffrey Wright in the latest James Bond film, No Time to Die, as well as the Sopranos movie The Many Saints of Newark. This is a great chat with the talent, personality and infectious energy that is Billy Magnussen!
Consumer Confidential – Vicky Nguyen shares tips on how to save money by buying refurbished items. Plus, author Amy McCulloch chats about how her experience summiting Mount Manaslu inspired her novel “Death Zone” and why she pushes her limits in extreme places. And, we are catching up with Cristin Milioti – all about season two of “Made For Love.”
We had a blast welcoming on the show Billy Magnussen, a Tony-nominated actor whose credits include GAME NIGHT, BLACK MIRROR, Disney's live-action ALADDIN, and Daniel Craig's final chapter as Bond, 2021's NO TIME TO DIE. In today's emotionally-honest conversation, we discuss how Billy's early work on a soap opera impacted his process as an actor; what he learned from being directed by Steven Spielberg on the set of BRIDGE OF SPIES; and how, despite his recent success as one of the villains in NO TIME TO DIE, it still took Billy over half-a-decade to experience a career-defining moment that shaped his entire outlook on the business. All of this… and much more! Billy's new movie THE SURVIVOR opens on HBO on April 27th, and you should also be on the lookout for the second season of MADE FOR LOVE coming out in 2022. Need TV binge suggestions? You've come to the right place. We've got you covered. Crossing the Streams originated on this podcast in episodes 8 and 15. My idea was to record friends freely discussing TV shows (and movies) they binge on one of the many, many streaming services we all subscribe to. Jeff Dwoskin, Howard Rosner, Ron Lippitt, Bob Philips, and Sal Demilio are your co-hosts and we're joined weekly by special guests. The assignment? We each come to the show with a TV binge suggestion. It might be a series, movie, or documentary but we'll give you the scoop so you can decide for yourself whether or not to dive in. In this bonus episode we discuss a few great binge suggestions: Made for Love (from live ep 20) The Con (from live ep 20) Greater (from live ep 25) Each segment is pulled from a show and shared as is in all its LIVE goodness. Full past live episodes: https://www.youtube.com/c/thejeffdwoskinshow/null Also, you can join us live every week at 9:30 PM ET on YouTube Learn more about your ad choices. Elliot Stabler has returned from his ignominious exile in...uh, a very nice-sounding job in Italy, and into an SVU spinoff that will find him Taking! His wife's murder! Personally! all over the Mob. Christina Tucker joins us to discuss this new vehicle and what a(n unpleasantly) surprising departure it actually is from the Law & Order model. Around The Dial takes us through Made For Love, Wipeout, Godzilla vs. Kong (on HBO Max! Watch it while you can! A lot!), and The Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Olivia makes the case for Doctor Who's "Silence In The Library" to be inducted into our Canon. Then after naming the week's Winner and Loser, it's on to a non-regulation Game Time that has us choosing some odd numbers. Get on the Wonder Wheel and crank us up! GUESTS
Ep 156 - Made For Love S1 Premiere (Ep 1-3)We watched the first 3 episodes of Made For Love and had to talk about it right away. The show centers around a controlling tech husband and his wife who is trying to get away from him and figure out who she is. Even though it's discussing an abusive and controlling relationship, it somehow manages to be funny. Cristin Milioti and Billy Magnussen are perfectly cast in this show.00:00:00 - 00:07:30 Made For Love S1 Ep 1-3 (Non-Spoiler)00:07:30 - 00:37:05 Made For Love S1 Ep 1-3 (SPOILERS)00:37:05 - 00:37:28 OutroThank you for listening!
