A place for me to catch up with my fantastic friends who are the most talented, fun loving people I know and love.
Andrew Jones (Raccoon, Dr. Dog, Mitch Fiction & the Shits, Penn Law graduate) and I share some stories, and it looks like the tables have turned: he interviews me! We fill in the gaps, plaster the memory holes, and caulk the ol' days. Talk includes bonus life experiences during Dr. Dog early days, Raccoon, Unleash the Bastards and beyond. He digs up my reflections and time in Barnacle Wolf and the southern NJ punk/hardcore music scene mid to late 1990's. We bask in the glory of the last Dr Dog tour 2021. And most of all, we enjoy each other's company and have a really nice time chatting out in the beautiful winter sun.
What can I say about Geoffrey Notkin? Well, how about the fact he is a TV Host, Film Producer, 2 x Emmy Winner, CEO Aerolite Meteorites Inc., Governor National Space Society, Author, TEDx Speaker, and Asteroid 132904. And one of my favorite fun facts ever: He is a Garbage Pail Kid! Deaf Geoff to be precise. He was the inspiration for that iconic GPK card. We moshed our way down some great avenues of his early life's journeys. For a snapshot of where we headed (and for those who want to choose their own adventure and jump to a random place in the show), we started off with his time growing up with his best friend Neil Gaiman and the punk scene in late 70's England to his time moving to early 80's NYC playing at CBGB's and studying/working under Art Spiegelman (the inventor of the Garbage Pail Kids) to our shared kinship in the importance and love of DIY and handcrafted art. Will we get into some deep topics? Will we talk the talk? Will we laugh out loud? Yes, yes, and yes! Will Duncan a man of a thousand lives. He is a dear friend and gifted teacher. Normally, i can think of some quick witted ways of delving into my guest's character, and for this episode I am going to highlight how great the Will Duncan is by borrowing the bio from his website: Will Duncan has taught throughout the world including Asia, Europe, Eastern Europe, South America and throughout the United States. He is a lecturer, meditation teacher, yoga instructor, retreat leader, and lavender farmer. At the age of 14 he met his teacher, Murray Rogers, and began a 23 year apprenticeship with him studying the world's scriptural traditions as well as a systematic approach to meditation. In 2010 Will completed 7 years of training in the open and higher teachings of the Gelugpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Upon completion he entered a traditional 3-year meditation retreat where he engaged in silent and solitary deep practice from 2010 - 2014. Upon completion of retreat Will was asked to begin teaching by his lamas. Following in all of his teacher's footsteps, Will's passion is in bringing to life the relevance and living profundity of the scriptural traditions. Deeply devoted to the Mahayana and Bodhisattva ideals of the cultivation of limitless compassion, Will draws on various traditions to shed light on the potential and urgency of waking up into our day-to-day lives. Known for his down-to-earth humor and ease, Will teaches by way of inquiry and lively discussion pushing students to think clearly for themselves and to uncover their own insights. We just couldn't stop the recording process so here is an entirely extra chunk of the post show fun we had. Nostalgia and the memories we make in youth. The times of more spontaneous get-togethers.
