The conclusion of Jeff's look at select songs that get right to the point, in revealing their titles in the opening vocal, from select artists and bands from the letters R to Zed, starting in the nineties, with Radiohead, and reflecting back to Part 1 in which it was revealed probably for the first time ever (we've not seen it anywhere before) how many Beatles songs start with the title and this time by comparison we'll investigate how many times the Rolling Stones did it. The difference is BIG. Plus hear the last song Joey Ramone listened to in his lifetime, and two Neil Young songs he'd soften on over time, but we won't, and we'll head to Texas to learn the whereabouts of Jesus ;)See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

He was indifferent to many of them (“No one is going to like you guys, but I'll have you back,” he told Joey Ramone), blissfully unaware of how important his scruffy little club would soon become. In the span of only 15 months, the five groups that comprise the CBGB's pantheon all debuted: Television in March 1974, followed by Ramones in August and Blondie in October, then Patti Smith in February 1975 and Talking Heads four months later. Those five groups all quickly got record deals and became popular enough to outgrow CBGB's. By the fall of 1977, Smith was the only one who was still playing there. What succeeded the Big Five was an array of new and retro styles, all of which feature here: No Wave (Sonic Youth, Mars, DNA, Bush Tetras), post-punk (Ritual Tension, Unknown Gender, Khmer Rouge), mutant funk and R&B (James Chance & The Contortions, Mink DeVille), art-rock bands (R.L. Crutchfield's Dark Day, The Revelons, Erasers, Jeff and Jane Hudson) hardcore punk (Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Vatican Commandos, Beastie Boys), and lots of power pop (Sorrows, The dBs, The Rudies, The Miamis, The Paley Brothers) . The club's best-known bands are present on this compilation but we've also revived interest in dozens of unfairly forgotten acts that, for a moment in time, made an album, EP, 45, or even a demo that crackled with innovation, wit, and joy. CBGB no longer exists, at least not in the physical plane, but what happened between those soot-filled, beer-stinking walls continues to reverberate around the world.

Tonight’s show features the debut of a new theme. It’s a format that I’ve long considered trying out, and this week seemed like the perfect opportunity. Quite often, new albums that I’ve come across have included songs with a famous person in the title. Most are tributes to said person, but there are also plenty of these types of tunes that just utilize a name for a song that has nothing to do with that character. So here we have over two hours of these types of songs. They’re priarily new or recently released, but there are four segments devoted to individual artists. First off, we have The Replacements, along with a variety of songs devoted to members of the band. Then at the end we have lengthy sections full of songs about Joe Strummer and Joey Ramone. I can see this format being utilized every few months. Just like the cover songs episodes, I’ll set up a folder that I’ll toss whatever songs I come across that would work for such a show. What do you think? Is this a worthy idea? For more info, including setlists, head to http://scotthudson.blogspot.com

Ever wonder how someone becomes a rock and roll star? Well, today you're going to find out. Steph Paynes, founder and lead guitarist of the all-girl powerhouse quartet Lez Zeppelin, shares her journey from rock journalist to leader of a band that captures the essence, spirit, power and seductiveness of Led Zeppelin.  Steph started the group in 2004, after touring as a “Ronette” with the “first bad girl of rock and roll,” Ronnie Spector. Before donning the white satin dragon suit, she worked as a freelance writer, novelist and music journalist. Her stories and reviews have appeared in Rolling Stone, The NME, Musician, Guitar Player and Playboy among many other publications. She has shared the stage with Joey Ramone, Keith Richards and Chuck Berry.  So much gold in this episode. We go deep on: How boldly walking into the offices of The NME as a young 20-something propelled her early career as a music journalist The story of how she dined on ham sandwiches with Frank Zappa at the Waldorf Astoria and discussed the censorship happening in music Dealing with disappointment  The importance of practicing, persisting and being a master at your craft How Ronnie Spector restored her spirit and what she learned about giving everything to your performances When Steph knew she was onto something big with her new band Lez Zeppelin You've got to love what you're doing because the audience can tell Navigating the art and challenge of a group playing in communion Channeling emotion and pulling your own essence out of your art < CONNECT WITH LEZ ZEPPELIN > https://lezzeppelin.com/  < LET'S RISE > Energy Queen Mastermind: June - December 2025 Applications Open Soon What You Came Here For Retreat | Cape Cod | September 2025 https://www.oceanedge.com/wellness-retreats/What-You-Came-Here-For  Iceland Retreat: Worldly Women Traveling in the Land of Fire + Ice | November 2025 Applications Open Soon

All that, plus Miriam talked to us about being one of John Cameron Mitchell's "players," appearing in Shortbus and, of course, originating the role of Yitzhak in the Hedwig universe; popping up in prestige Oscar films; her musical theatre roots; New York City history; and dying by way of a paintbrush in The Americans.  This week we are wrapping up The Lone Gunmen's story (and lives) while we discuss “Jump the Shark”! We're talking the surprising return of Jimmy and Yves, the real reason why Chuck McGill hates Jimmy McGill, that they couldn't let The Lone Gunmen go without one more shot of Frohike falling face-first in mud, the indignity of Joey Ramone slander, and Yves Adele Harlow's real name drop! We wonder if there will be a Vaping Man in Season 11, freak out about these evil airtight fire doors, think it's hurtful that Yves refuses to do the hand on window thing, and clown on Skinner for a long time because apparently he thought it would be a great idea to bury Byers, Langly, and Frohike in Arlington. It's got to be a prank. Please tell us it's a prank.Note: The deadline for submitting questions/comments for our Season 9 recap is Sunday May 11! Send us an email at scullynationpod@gmail.com or follow us on Instagram!

Amy started out as an NYC punk fan, was in the "cow punk" band Last Roundup with her brother, and then in a vocal trio called The Shams that released an album and an EP around 1993. She finally emerged as a full front-person as a solo artist in 1997; she's since released nine solo albums plus three more with her husband Wreckless Eric, who now serves as her producer. We discuss "Bricks" from Hang In There With Me (2024), "Genovese Bag" by Amy Rigby and Wreckless Eric from A Working Museum (2012), and "Beer and Kisses" from Diary of a Mod Housewife (1997).
