As Polonius, chief minister said to his son Laertes, in one of the most memorable plays written by the great Shakespear, "To Thine Own Self Be True". The first meaning is that someone can better judge himself if he has done what he should or could have done. The second meaning is that one must be honest in his ways and relations. The third meaning is that one must always do the right thing. In this episode it all about getting to know yourself! being honest about yourself, and changing yourself!! We are a society that loves to fix everybody else, comment on everybody else, talk about everybody else, but I ask you wonderful people!! "What about you" ? What's broken within you, what's off about you? What could you stand to change about you? I go into a brief detail about getting to know yourself, being true to your self, and fixing yourself, because only you can do the real work. You can see a therapist, a psychologist, a spiritual leader, a Guru or who ever! But less you take a deep inward look and a long visit with you, it's all meaningless. i hope that you can take away from this episode a few things to help you or someone else, because that's what really matters to me. make sure to follow me on Instagram at prettygirlmedia8372 and on Twitter Deon8372 okay! This is an introduction to the up and coming episodes on mental health series. After experiencing my own battle with severe clinical anxiety and depression I decided to use my platform to advocate for those who suffer daily in silence with their mental health, emotional health and their spiritual health. The next few episodes are intended to educate and shed some much needed light on this often unrecognizable disorder in the hopes of helping others recover and heal as well as cope as the battle continues. I’ll discuss the different types of depression and the similarities, the different types of treatments, coping skills and understanding that although you are different you are normal in how you feel. This episode is a follow-up episode of a previous episode I did entitled the "Darkest Place". One of the listeners asked if I was gonna do a follow-up on my recovery and how I was coming along since opening up about having a mental break down, so here it is! In this episode I share what I've learned about myself while in therapy, as for as my own fails in regards to not taking proper care of myself. I talk about the fear, anger, low self-esteem and lack of confidence I developed within myself and what I am doing to correct these things so that they never happen again, starting with boundaries and lots of self care. A Conversation on the difference between Church Folks, Saved Folks and how to forgive folks. I’ve been in church all my life, we went Sunday after Sunday, not to mention choir rehearsal, Bible study, BTU, Vacation Bible School, 3pm Sunday service, and those infamous 3day revivals. If there was a service, we attended it. But did it make us better people, did it change or shape us into people like Christ? I and many others would beg to differ. During these times we've witnessed prejudice, discrimination, deceptiveness and shoddiness from the media and most of all our own government. hundreds or thousands have been infected, and affected due to Covid-19. The Coronavirus also know as Covid-19, is changing all of our lives in some way or another, but one particular way of life I've seen it change and have a great impact on, is the church. The church is the key essential and spiritual element for many of us and a way of life and spiritual connectivity for millions all over the world, especially the American people, and even more so, with the African Americans. The Church is where you go to meet God along with our fellow Sisters and brothers in Christ, to hear the preached word as a part of our spiritual growth and closeness to God, to learn about God and his plan for our lives. Covid-19 has now changed the way we have church, going from in person church services to now virtual church service, and this has a lot of church attendees pretty upset. According to the Center For Family Justice, 1 in 4 females and 1 out of 6 males are sexually assaulted in their life time. Yet, only 230 out of every 1,000 assaults are ever reported to the police. In this episode, I had the pleasure of having a very intimate conversation with a brother by the name of Mr. Kerry Kay, an old neighborhood friend, that came up with me from back in the day. What Kerry shared with me in this interview, I never would have or could have imagined him having gone through, or anybody matter of fact, after all he was a "BOY", who seemed happy. What Kerry shares in the episode was of his own free will and his own act of transparency. Kerry Ray was born in Dallas Texas, of June 1978 to his parents, James and Rita Ray in this household were three children with Kerry being the middle child. At the young age of 9-10 years old, Kerry Ray, was molested by a friend of the family... multiple times, which turned Kerry Ray, a once happy jolly child, filled with his parents love and joy.... toward a life of destructive and out of control behavior because of what took place in his childhood. After entering middle school Kerry began to indulge in controlled substances off and on, which also played a big part in his path to disfunction, which led to jails and institutions. By Kerry's mid-30s, it was during his time in a correctional facility, he was introduced to an onsite group therapy group. It was there he divulged for the first time the secrets of molestation from his childhood, that helped him to finally begin to break through the shell of pain that had encased himself in for so long. Today, Kerry is a single father of five children and three grandchildren, and in a fight for his life, peace and sound mind. Kerry is a recovering addict also, having tried various kinds drugs, having been a former gang member, a womenizer and mastermind of manipulation. Who today is now, working to develop a spiritual relationship with God as he likes to called him, Allah. For it is through him Kerry has seen and reached peace, humbleness and happiness, This is the story of Kerry Ray. A lot of people these days, seems to be looking, hoping, praying, chasing, waiting and forcing love, only to find out later, what they thought was love, was indeed counterfeit, fake, false or a figment of ones imagination. You don't have to chase love, you only have to be available for love, the kind of love, that loves you back. But until then, walk away, save yourself and your time from non-sense... and live your best life, until your intended love, finds you. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cafeconversations/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cafeconversations/support
I had the pleasure of doing this podcast with my godson and my godniece, Domoniqueb aka "Cornbread" and Tatianna aka "Twelve", two young educated, talented goal driven young people. In this episode, we discuss an array of topics, from dating, being fearless & adventurous, kids and how they effect life as we know it, overcoming fears & life's mistakes to homophobia and simply pacing yourself in life so that you can accomplish some of the things you want, while you're young. Unfortunately, part 3 of this really great conversation was lost, so although it is mentioned, I was not able to include it in this episode. My apologies. But I guarantee this episode will not disappoint!! Be sure to like us on Facebook & Twitter and on Instagram!!! Please like subscribe and share!! The Jack Fruit Queen and Entrepreneur Chef/Baker and owner of the Gourmet Boutique Dredaria Scott joins me inside Cafe Conversations in this episode and educates us about the vegan lifestyle and why she chose to become a vegan as well as shares her journey and why she transitioned over to the vegan life style. Dredaria is a mother, lover of life and on a journey to an even better version of me. I started my vegan journey 6 years ago but immediately fell off. 3 years ago I revisited the lifestyle and have yet to look back. It was a normal work day and she was at her desk taking a call when she blacked out. Long story short she was hospitalised with her doctor telling her she had diabetes and her numbers were in the high 400’s he explained to her the she shouldn't have even been coherent. From that moment forward she gave up everything white ex. Rice pasta bread sugar etc. also anything fried. She dove stomach first into a vegan lifestyle and in a months time lost 24 pounds. Since becoming vegan, her quality of life is extremely better. She eats, sleeps, and even breathes better. Her skin hair and nails are healthy. Her sole mission right now is to share with the masses of the wonderful benefits of eating a veggie & fruit lifestyle. Be sure to check out Dredaria's "Gourmet Boutique" on Instagram and Facebook. If you are in the Dallas Metro area, place your order by emailing at gourmetboutique@gmail.com or place your order via Facebook as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cafeconversations/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cafeconversations/support
