Born and raised in Hillsborough New Brunswick on the inner bay of fundy. I've been fishing for 30 plus years, Fly fishing seriously for 8 years. I started guiding 2 years ago for sea run trout and brook trout and will soon be offering Atlantic Salmon and Striped bass in the 2024 season. I've been tying now for 4 years, selling some flies locally and also on my etsy page. I live for fly fishing and bow hunting, bird hunting ( I harvest my own feathers for my flies ) when I'm not fishing or tying I'm usually wrenching on old motorcycles or working on my airbnb business. My guiding style is definitely trying to get clients to enjoy the full experience it's not just catching fish, it's the scenery, the sound of the birds, the sound of the river, the rise of a trout. April Vokey began fishing as a toddler. By the sixth grade she was saving her allowance for weekend visits to the local tackle shop where she eventually stocked her ‘hand-me-down' Plano box with every lure and bait she could afford. Counting down days for the opportunity to attain her driver's license, by the age of 16 she spent every summer, fall and winter seeking escape through the salmon and steelhead migration that frequented BC's coastal waters. Such ventures drove her to self-discovery, realization, motivation, and a hunger to escape a troubled environment in the city she called home.

David-Alexandre Chabot was born in Quebec's Eastern Townships. His love for fishing started at a young age, when he and his brothers would spend hours throwing worms at whatever would bite. His passion for fly fishing was ignited six years ago, when he caught his very first trout using a fly he had tied the night before. More and more fascinated with the sport with each passing day, but unable to find quality fly fishing products that were responsibly made, he was moved to create Timber&Fins. We are committed to crafting heirloom quality fly fishing gear that enhances your fishing experience and that can be passed down from one generation to the next. I travelled all over Newfoundland, and into Labrador in search of feisty silver bullets. I have lots of great stories about trips to Labrador that I can share. I also made several trips to the Yukon (where my wife is from) and I fished for pike, lake trout, and grayling on various varieties of fly. You can help support this podcast by clicking here Justin Karnes Aka 317.flies on Instagram My fly fishing journey started when i was a kid with my dad and grandfather. Being in Indiana back then…trout stocking programs didn't really exist, so it was all about bass and bluegill..or whatever would take a painted cork popper. Once I was into my teenage years and into my 20's..I had gotten away from fly fishing and primarily was focused on local bass tournaments. Then through some unfortunate family events and being gifted both my father and grandfather's fly rods, I decided I needed to get back into it..and it rekindled a love and passion that had been missing in my fishing for so many years. Being bitten by the bass bug for all those years never stopped though, so I began learning how to tie streamers and it took off from there to what is now my true passion in fly fishing…the smallmouth bass.

I grew up on a small farm in the hills of Northwestern Connecticut and playing in ponds and streams was pretty normal. My favorite was when I got to go fishing with my Dad. I miss him every day and I am so thankful that he passed his love for the outdoors to me. My 20's and 30's found me raising a family on a corner of the same little farm. Raising horses and teaching children to ride. Teaching about something I love has always been natural to me. A few years later, after a serious accident with a young horse, I started to think maybe it was time to find something else. My children had grown up and were on there own. Riding by myself felt more risky. I had always wanted to try tying flies and fly fishing. I hadn't even heard of spey casting? But, through a ladies fly fishing class at my local fly shop I made some friends and discovered that I loved fly fishing. I was not very good at casting and struggled to learn, but I was having fun and I would catch an occasional trout. Around the same time, a friend was learning two handed casting and showed me how to do it. I instantly fell in love with the technique. Right away I signed up for a lesson. It was then that I met my now teaching partner and mentor, Jerry Jahn. I spent every spare minute learning the casts, grain weight, scandi, skagit you name it. I am on the pro-staff of HMH Vise and Sage Elite pro-staff.
