Dovey, Spooner, Damo and Adam are all back together in this episode of Thinking Tackle Podcast Uncut. The lads take a look back on a session that produced 18 carp, close encounters with the country's BIGGEST fully scaled mirror carp (aka their target fish), and a fascinating discussion around rigs, presentations, and how something as small as an inch of hooklink length can completely change the outcome of a session.A week at The Manor, plenty of bites, and a few moments where it genuinely felt like the lake's giant, fully scaled mirror was only one mistake away from getting caught. From fishing clay spots amongst heavy weed to spotting the big fish over the baited area, there were plenty of moments where confidence was sky high - but the result everyone wanted remained just out of reach.

What makes fantasy, paranormal fiction, and supernatural storytelling so powerful in capturing the imagination? In this fascinating and creative episode, Gail Martin of DreamSpinner Communications explores the worlds of fantasy, science fiction, paranormal fiction, and the art of crafting unforgettable stories that transport readers beyond ordinary reality. Drawing from decades of experience in writing, publishing, and communications, Gail Z. Martin discusses the inspiration behind her storytelling, the enduring appeal of supernatural themes, and how fantasy worlds often reflect real human struggles, hopes, and fears. She explores why readers continue to be drawn toward tales of magic, mystery, dark forces, heroes, and hidden worlds. This episode invites listeners into the imagination itself. Why do paranormal and fantasy stories resonate so deeply across cultures and generations? How does speculative fiction allow us to explore human nature in new ways?

Daily Dose of Bitachon: The Secret of Movement Welcome to Daily Dose of Bitachon . We are currently in our Shaar Bechina series. The next concept we are called to contemplate is movement . Interestingly, movement ( in the internal sense as will be explained) is not something truly perceived by our physical senses alone. Rabbeinu Bachya shares a powerful insight: Without movement, nothing in the world could exist. The Spirituality of Motion One philosopher noted that most natural events result from motion. Modern science echoes what the sages understood long ago: everything is composed of atoms, neutrons, and protons, and they are in constant flux. Rabbeinu Bachya explains that if you break everything down, it is all spirituality. The Chovos HaLevavos teaches that when you grasp the spiritual nature of movement, you realize it is one of the wonders of God, born of His great compassion. Every move you make is connected to God's will. He controls the smallest and the largest, the hidden and the revealed. The only thing God left to you is your freedom of choice ; every other movement in your body is decided by Him. When you internalize this, you will: Think deeply about every move you make. Remember your constant connection to Him, as He is, so to speak, "inside" of you. Feel a sense of awe and fear of Heaven, knowing He is driving your very existence. Surrender to His judgment and desire His decrees. By living with this awareness, you find favor in His eyes and achieve a "happy ending," as the verse says: " הבוטח בה' חסד יסובבנו " — The one who relies on Hashem is surrounded by kindness. The Mover and the Moved This fundamental idea is supported across our sacred literature: The Ramban ( Drashos Toras Hashem Temimah ) and the Ba'al HaAkeidah (Gate 16) both state that nothing can move without a "Mover." The Rambam ( Yesodei HaTorah 1:5) explains that when we see the world spinning at all times, we must realize nothing spins without a "Spinner." That Mani'a (Mover) is HaKadosh Baruch Hu Himself. Rav Wolbe ( Da'as Shlomo- Yemei Ratzon ) notes that this is why we call God Chai Ha'Olamim —the Life of all Worlds ( Yishtabach prayer). He is pumping energy into everything. From the vast galaxies to the microscopic atom, there isn't a moment of stillness. Even a stone is a "miniature world" of atomic movement. He quotes Rav Yerucham Levovitz who says that without God's energy, man is like a "picture on a wall" without life. While superficial observers see the world as a self-sustaining machine, we must look deeper to see the Chai Ha'Olamim . The "Automobile" Delusion Modern technology can now take a 50-year-old wedding photo and turn it into a movie where your grandparents smile and wave. It's unbelievable, yet that is exactly what God does constantly: We are the pictures, and God is the energy creating the movie. The Kuzari (Rabbi Yehuda Halevi) wrote a beautiful piyut for Rosh Hashanah that asks: "Who prepared you? Who gave you understanding? And by whose power do you move?" The Yalkut Shimoni (Mishlei 15) contrasts this with the "fools" or heretics who claim the world is abtumtos . The Arukh explains this is Greek for a system that moves on its own without an external driver. Rabbi Eliyahu Tzion Sofer (Hanukah) notes that abtumtos is a transliteration of automatos —automatic. This "automatic" worldview—the idea that the world is an "automobile" moving on its own—stems from Aristotle. The Ramban (Vayikra 16:8) explains that Aristotle denied anything he couldn't sense, arrogantly believing that if he couldn't prove it in a laboratory, it didn't exist. This closed-system worldview misses the higher intelligence entirely. Conclusion: Making Hashem King And that's what the Chovot Halevavot starts off with. This secret of movement is something that's not tangible. And because they wrote this rule that if I don't see it it's not there, if I can't prove it in a laboratory it doesn't exist, this closed-system worldview misses the possibility of a higher intelligence, so they have a built-in system that God can't be there because I can't sense God, spirit can't be there because I can't sense spirit. They wrote their own rulebook. According to their view ,knowledge is built entirely from the bottom up; data enters through my senses and then the mind organizes them and creates ideas. This is a powerful concept and it's interesting that Rav Wolbe writes about this on Rosh Hashanah because he says that's one of the jobs on Rosh Hashanah . And the song of Rabbi Yehuda Halevi , the Kuzari is also a Rosh Hashanah song. Because when you want to make Hashem into king which we actually do, says the Midrash in Yalkut Shimoni every single day we make God into king, and it all comes from Rosh Hashanah but that's our job every day when we say Hashem ekhad to realize there's a force that's inside of me that's driving me, there's nothing else but Him and therefore I give myself over to His will and I rely on him . So it's unbelievable as we say many a time, without sha'ar habechinah you don't have sha'ar habitachon . Sorry for going overtime but this is a very deep concept that could not be squeezed.

This is the closest that Snape ever gets in his life to a wedding. It's not that he's going to be loved, but he is going to be needed. He won't be loved, but he'll have to love. Three times, Narcissa asks him to swear an oath; three times, he says, "I will." He's being called upon as a teacher. He's not a father, he's not just a friend. What is he? He's a teacher. Show 331 Part 2 – Show 331 was a big one so I made it a 2 parter. Part 1 runs about 45 minutes and you can find it here – https://fullspectrumcycling.com/full-spectrum-cycling-331-part-1-fat-biking-electric-bikes-milwaukee/ https://youtu.be/eilI_r77h6g In Part 2 of 331 we have sprawling segment of Full Spectrum Cycling featuring guest Jeremy Prach – 27-year Milwaukee Public Schools teacher, community organizer, and catalyst behind some of Milwaukee’s most beloved DIY events. Threading through all of it is a shared philosophy: community built on genuine stoke beats anything you can sell, and the best events are often born from a group of people drinking beer and throwing darts at a crazy idea until it works. Segment 1 – 44:42 to 47:00 | Jeremy’s Day Job: Teaching, Cooking, and Community Jeremy describes his 27-year career as an MPS teacher and his current role running a real working cafe with special needs students at the teacher training center – today’s special: chicken pot pie. Segment 2 – 47:00 to 53:30 | River West 24: Origin, Ethos, and the AV Club Jeremy reflects on how Riverwest 24 grew from backyard beer drinking into a Milwaukee institution, the challenge of explaining its ethos to outsiders, the involvement of “certified radicals,” and the new RW24 AV Club looking for production volunteers to control their own media narrative. Segment 3 – 53:30 to 57:10 | Sign-Up Day Entertainment: Vaudeville, Gong Show, and the Line Experience The group discusses plans to turn the RW24 registration line into a variety show – somewhere between vaudeville, the Gong Show, and the Muppets – with Jeremy MCing. Sven mentions three years of video footage he’s sitting on from past sign-up days. Segment 4 – 57:10 to 1:01:30 | Podcast Philosophy: DIY vs. Monetization Jeremy shares his own motorcycle podcast (Flat-Out Friday / Mama Tried) and the group wrestles with the tension between staying punk rock and actually making the economics work. Sven recalls the heyday of scripted Weekly Dose of Fat episodes with 3,500 listeners vs. the current no-edit approach. Segment 5 – 1:01:30 to 1:05:30 | Punk Rock Roots and Milwaukee Basement Shows The conversation digs into Milwaukee’s basement show scene, Jeremy’s punk rock community entry point, Tony’s backyard as a venue, and the visiting Iowa wrestlers who couldn’t believe what they’d walked into. Segment 6 – 1:05:30 to 1:09:30 | Community as a Core Value: “Bowling Alone” and Catholic Guilt Jeremy connects his lifelong drive to organize – hockey, Jiu-Jitsu, motorcycles, music – to a deeper need for community. References the book “Bowling Alone,” his altar boy days, and the irony of Catholic guilt as a motivator. Segment 7 – 1:09:30 to 1:17:30 | The Origin of Flat-Out Friday: From MECCA to the Bradley Center Jeremy tells the full unlikely story: a whiskey-and-Dr.-Pepper car ride where Scott from Fuel floated the idea for Mama Tried, Jeremy collecting $5 tickets at a door he showed up 30 minutes late to, renting the MECCA Arena and watching them rip the covers off extra seats because more people showed up than expected, losing that slot to the circus, getting blocked out of the Bradley Center, and finally getting a cold call from promoter Raj who said yes because he knew Riverwest 24. Segment 8 – 1:17:30 to 1:21:15 | Milwaukee Music Connective Tissue: Mike Maccabee, Dub, and Veggas Bar A detour through music – solo performer Mike McAbee (who plays 3 hours straight because “when I stop, everyone leaves”), Max Knoll’s loud reggae sets, dub music as a full-body experience, and the shared language of Milwaukee’s underground scene. Segment 9 – 1:21:15 to 1:26:19 | Wrap-Up, Upcoming Events, and the New Bar on the Block The hosts thank Jeremy. Upcoming items include the Milwaukee Fat Tire Tour, Riverwest 24 registration, a Goddamn Gallows show at Cooperage, and the newly opened (and apparently controversial) Diaspora bar – dropping on Milwaukee Day, 414. Episode 97: Gershwin Prize Winner! Winner, Winner, Got A Spinner! March 30, 2026 From May 2024: The aging process on humans is real. What we do and don't do may play a big part in how that process affects us or not. The vinyl LPs of that era and the new ones being purchased today will last a lot longer than the color in our hair or our smooth and youthful skin. All I'm saying is that the age of rock is so wide and varied, from Elvis to Zappa, we have a lot of ground to cover in these short one-hour shows. And, who knows, maybe listening to the music of our youth may give a moment in time when we can enjoy those times or not. Admit it, it wasn't all bad. If you have some input, like my friend, Puh-mella did, let me know your taste in music, who/what/when. Email all your comments to me at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com. There are many ways to hear these great tunes: Live on RadioFreeNashville.org Wednesdays at 5 pm Central time, all the podcasts of the radio program(many times extended versions) can be listened to anytime, anywhere at StudioMillsWellness.com/tales-vinyl-tells, on podbean.com, iHeart podcasts, Player FM podcasts, Listen Notes podcasts and many other podcast places. Watch the full video: https://wetflyswing.com/salmonflyproject Take the Angler Survey: https://salmonflyproject.org/survey/ Support the Salmonfly Project: https://salmonflyproject.org/donate/ In this episode, we dig deep into one of the most important but often misunderstood parts of fly fishing: entomology, or the study of aquatic insects, and how it directly connects to success on the water. James Frakes and Jackson Birrell from the Salmonfly Project break this topic down in a way that makes it approachable, practical, and actually useful for anglers at any level. Instead of overwhelming you with scientific jargon or Latin names, they focus on what matters most: understanding bugs well enough to make better decisions when fish are feeding. Right from the start, the conversation shifts the way you think about "matching the hatch." It's not just about picking the right fly—it's about understanding timing, behavior, and movement. When you start thinking not only like a fish, but also like the bug, everything begins to click. Why Bugs Matter More Than You Think One of the biggest takeaways from this conversation is that bugs are not just "fish food" they are the foundation of the entire river ecosystem. Aquatic insects: Feed trout and drive feeding behavior Support birds and other wildlife Help clean and maintain healthy rivers Act as early warning signs for water quality In fact, over 70% of freshwater species are insects, which puts into perspective just how important they are. The guys emphasize that it's not just about having a lot of bugs it's about diversity. Different species hatch at different times, creating consistent feeding opportunities for trout throughout the year. Without that diversity, fishing becomes less predictable and often less productive. The Big 3: Mayflies, Stoneflies, and Caddisflies To simplify things, they focus on the three major insect groups every angler should understand: 1. Mayflies These are the classic "dry fly" bugs most anglers think of. They have a unique lifecycle that includes multiple fishable stages: Nymph Emerger Dun (adult) Spinner (final stage) Because mayflies take a long time to emerge and sit in the surface film, trout feed on them gently those classic sipping rises. A key insight: Mayflies are often most vulnerable during emergence, making emerger and cripple patterns incredibly effective. 2. Stoneflies Stoneflies behave very differently. Instead of emerging mid-river, they: Crawl to the banks Hatch out of the water Return to lay eggs by skittering or "splatting" on the surface This creates a completely different feeding response from trout: More aggressive, splashy eats One of the most surprising takeaways: During big hatches like salmonflies, fish may already be completely full from eating nymphs That's why sometimes fish ignore giant dry flies even when bugs are everywhere 3. Caddisflies Caddis are fast, active, and incredibly abundant. Their lifecycle includes: Larva Pupa (fast-rising stage) Adult (moth-like) Unlike mayflies, caddis emerge quickly and don't sit long on the surface. This leads to: Faster, more aggressive trout feeding (the classic "caddis rise") A big takeaway here: Fishing wet flies or pupae is often more effective than dry flies during caddis activity Understanding Behavior Over Identification One of the most important themes in this episode is that you don't need to memorize every bug species. Instead, focus on: What type of bug it is (mayfly, stonefly, caddis) Where it lives (bottom, rocks, banks) How it moves (slow drift vs fast swim vs skitter) When it emerges If you understand those basics, you can: Anticipate feeding behavior instead of reacting to it Hatch Timing and Strategy The episode also dives into how hatches actually happen and how to fish them. Key concepts: Hatches are driven by water temperature and seasonal timing Spinner falls are driven by air temperature Bugs emerge in predictable windows (morning, midday, evening) Some practical strategies: Fish nymphs before the hatch begins Switch to emergers right before activity Match surface patterns only when fish are clearly feeding up top They also highlight how: Cloudy, humid weather often improves mayfly fishing Sunny afternoons can be better for stoneflies Evening and even nighttime can be prime for caddis Real Science Meets Real Fishing What makes this episode stand out is how the Salmonfly Project connects science directly to angling. Their work includes: Studying insect populations Tracking environmental changes Running angler-driven data collection They explain how insects act as "canaries in the coal mine"s howing early signs of river health changes before fish populations decline. This ties into a bigger message: Understanding bugs makes you not just a better angler—but a better steward of the river The Wild Side of Bugs This episode also mixes in some unforgettable (and slightly crazy) insights: Caddis larvae build underwater nets and fight over territory Some stoneflies live underground and show up in people's wells Mayflies have been around longer than dinosaurs Certain bugs can literally "chirp" underwater to compete These moments highlight something important: There's an entire world happening beneath your feet that most anglers never see The Big Takeaway If there's one idea to walk away with, it's this: You don't need to know everything about bugs— you just need to understand enough to predict what's happening. When you: Recognize the type of insect Understand its behavior Match your presentation accordingly You move from guessing… to fishing with purpose. Final Thoughts This conversation is a reminder that fly fishing isn't just about casting or gear it's about awareness. The anglers who consistently find success aren't always using the fanciest flies—they're the ones paying attention to: What's happening in the water What stage the bugs are in How trout are responding And once you start seeing the river through that lens, everything changes.

Many adult dancers have experienced walking into class one day feeling strong and energized, and another day feeling completely depleted... even though NOTHING about their training has changed! For female dancers, those fluctuations can often be connected to something that's rarely discussed in the ballet world: how our bodies shift throughout the menstrual cycle. In this episode, I'm joined by Jess — dancer, nutrition coach, and founder of The Whole Dancer — to talk about how women can fuel their training in a way that supports both performance and hormonal health. We discuss why understanding your cycle matters if you're training regularly, how our nutritional needs and cravings can shift throughout the month, and how to recognize the signs that you might be under-fueling. Jess also shares what a well-balanced day of eating might look like for adult dancers who train after a full workday, as well as her perspective on supplements and how to support your body during lower-energy weeks. If you've ever wondered why your energy in class seems to fluctuate — or how to better support your body as a female dancer — this conversation offers a practical and empowering place to start.Connect with Jess

Welcome to episode 135 of the Still Spinning Podcast, the last one of February! Dan has a lot of travel coming up for his job and so the topic of hotel stays is high on his list. There are a few things that both he and experts have noticed. First off, the days of the cheap hotel room are gone. No longer are you likely to find a $125 room in a nice hotel. Second, say goodbye to the free breakfast! There are some reasons behind that, and the team discusses them during the podcast. There have been a few recent studies on workplace burnout and apparently the act of hiding your true feelings and/or “reacting” in a work moment the way you feel are expected to react is causing folks to lose steam by the end of the week. Is that amount of “acting” sustainable? We discuss. I know Dan went on a late tangent but even I cannot remember what it is about so you will have to tune in to find out! Check out our website, stillspinningpodcast.com, for information on past episodes, a link to our merch page and more information on how you can become a Spinner!
Tom Dove, Neil Spooner, Damian Clarke and Adam Reed discuss how some carp fishing rigs don't stop working - they just fall out of favour. In this episode of Thinking Tackle Uncut, the full team revisits some of their favourite RETRO carp rigs that once went out on every rod: Tom's old Muzza Rig, Spooner's trusted Naked Chod Rig, and the shift toward the now-dominant Spinner rig. From corked-bottom baits and aggressive hook positioning to stiff hooklinks, quick-change setups, and modern hook sharpness, the lads break down why certain carp fishing rigs caught loads — and why they're rarely tied today.

Here we go with another edition of HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT…?” a semi-recurring segment where we look at random characters that we encounter in the books we read. Lots of strange, unusual folks out here that you need to know about. As we move on from Wonder Man and friends, let's make a quick detour to chat out Marvel's Spinner of Lies (and one-time Wonder Man tormentor) MEPHISTO! Chances are that if you are listening to this podcast, you have an idea of who Mephisto is. But…were you privy to the time he tried to marry Witchblade or that he once crashed Nighcrawler's birthday party? We weren't and therefore, it is worth mentioning.Promo: OPAL CITY CONFIDENTIAL (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7dWav22KbKD2BLOe_O59tw)Continue the conversation with Shawn and Jen on Twitter / BlueSky / Threads via @angryheroshawn and @JenStansfield and email the show at worstcollectionever@gmail.comAlso, get hip to all of our episodes on YouTube in its own playlist! https://bit.ly/WorstCollectionEverYTDownload the podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and wherever you get your favorite shows.
