It's a word that's similar to honor, respect, awe, admiration, reverence. We aren't supposed to be afraid of God and that he would smite us if we make a mistake. It's the other way around. We are to revere him and respect him and his word. Let him talk. Obey. To please him and bring him honor. Let's take a look at what Scripture teaches us and how we can better have a sense of what fearing the Lord looks like. So many truths are contained in it. It's a best seller worldwide. Yes there are some complex subjects and themes, but that doesn't make it invalid and outdated and false. It's worth studying and investigating. There are also verses that are very clear. This Bible is for me, for today. It's legit. It hasn't lost value or meaning. The truths and principles can still apply in todays culture and society. God didn't just send us the Bible. I'm not supposed to read it and try follow every rule to the letter. If I have questions, I can go to the Bible, but more importantly, I can go to the Author. "God, what did you mean when you said this.." He will explain it to me. I value my Bible. I don't place anything else on top of it and it's the one item I would carry out of my house if there was a fire and I had to save one thing. It's life changing and I'm living proof. Worship sounds like a very churchy word, but its seen in everyday peoples lives when you look at what they spend their time and attention on. It's where there heart is, what they talk about a lot. In this episode we check out some Scripture and where this idea of worshipping comes from. More than a song, worship is what you show devotion to and admiration for. The only person worthy of true worship is God Himself. All others are an idol and have way less value than God. Two very good reasons to worship God are 1) who He is and 2) what He's done. In Daniel 3, three men's lives were at stake on the subject of worship. The king himself was angry that these men didn't bow down to his image of gold. So he cast them bound into a burning fiery furnace. What happened next had him astonished and amazed. God-Infused Rest

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 4, 2021 15:50

After God spent 6 days creating the world, He rested. Not because He was tired or had to recover. But He stopped working. He made that day holy and sanctified it. He told the people of Israel to observe the Sabbath. It was a big deal. Rest to God is necessary, and the kind He gives is more than a break or a day off or not working. In Matthew, Jesus says to come to Him, and He will give us rest. It's such an inviting verse. Remember to acknowledge God in your resting. I hope you enjoy listening. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/support

    Training, Instruction, and Algorithms

Training never seems fun and glamorous. Its where you sweat, its where you make mistakes and have small wins. It's where you learn what to do to make you successful. In this episode, we'll look at what it means to train. Wouldn't it be nice if life had a set of instructions you could follow that would set you up for success? Spoiler alert: 2 Tim 3:16. All scripture is given by inspiration of God...for instruction. An algorithm or a set of moves or procedures can help you get from where you are to where you want to be. Practice takes time. You learn how to do the right thing. Progress not perfection is the goal. I want to encourage you to keep going and learn things and train. I know it can be mundane, but it can pay big dividends to have put in the work of training --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/support

Children are amazing creatures. In this episode, I share some things that I've learned from them and things I've noticed about them. And then I talk a little about how I treat them. Things that I think are important. Our job as parents is to raise healthy, responsible, and respectful children. I pray that the things I'm doing today will have a good lasting impression on them and that our relationship is strong long after they graduate. If you are a parent, I hope this episode reminds you of truth. Keep doing the good that you're doing. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/matthew-johnson27/support

You spend your whole life moving. From the time you were little til now and beyond. Every action requires movement. It's a sign of life. Some movements are habit, others you are learning right now. But more than just moving around, it's about your direction and destination. Where is all this moving getting you? Where will you end up? The verse that answers the question is Romans 8:29. Conformity to the image of Jesus is the ultimate destination and where all of our movements should be taking us. Thoughts on Good Music Part 2

I had a some more thoughts on good Christian music. What I like about it, how many genres there are, what the anointing is. The bottom line is music is an art and the truth ultimately comes from Gods Word. Music is meant to assist us and encourage us and remind us of the truth. It's the artists rendition of what God has done in their lives. There are songs about all kinds of things, but the best ones are the ones like David in the Psalms when he has real conversations with God. Those are ones I can identify with. Have a listen and compare songs to what the Bible says.
