Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:20, “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.” Scribes and Pharisees were good at performing for God without knowing Him. Performers get Identity through what they do whereas a warrior knows their identity through Who lives in them. A Dread Champion does everything through partnership with God and not just for God.

Enter 2021 by forgetting and remembering. “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 Your 2021 won’t be different from 2020 unless you are different. Dread Champions can forget and remember. “Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:” Psalms 103:1-2 NKJV Our memories replay our past and our imagination pre-plays our future.
“You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.” II Timothy 2:3-4 In this episode Scott interviews Command Sergeant Major Retired Joe Winchester about what makes a good soldier.
“For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” - II Corinthians 10:3-6 5 steps to getting over hurt 1. Make a decision to let it go. 2. Express your pain and responsibility to God and someone you are close with 3. Stop being a victim and blaming others 4. Focus on the present / here and now 5. Forgive them and yourself.
Luke 12:1 “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy.” Hypocrisy means to pretend and be an actor. The religious spirit loves control, performance and punishment. 16 signs of being in a spiritually abusive ministry/church. 1. Leadership teaches that God must speak to them first before He speaks to you. 2. Leadership curses those who leave their church & speak death over them saying they are setting themselves up to die since they are out of their covering. 3. Leadership makes you feel guilty to stay connected to or are in relationship with those who leave the church or are part of another ministry. 4. Leadership overemphasizes teaching on submission to leadership. 5. Leaders publicly humiliate those they are threatened by or are jealous of. They will be passive aggressive in their sermons & their social media. 6. Leadership surrounds themselves with “yes men” & have no accountability. Their inner circles usually do a lot of their dirty work. 7. Leadership makes it known that personal life decisions have to be first approved by the leadership such as where you should invest, work, move or who you should date or marry. 8. Leadership discourages you to read or listen to any other ministries that they don’t approve of. 9. Leadership bullies through manipulation and intimidation. 10. Leadership blames everyone else for the churches problems. Leadership is never transparent. 11. Leadership blocks or defriends those on social media who have left their church & encourages others to as well by calling the people who have left rebellious & dishonorable. 12. Leadership promises promotion to others but never promotes others into their ministries. They constantly dangle the carrot over their head but never give them an opportunity. 13. Leadership manipulates people to give offerings. 14. Leadership talks about loyalty, commitment and honor in excess and demand to be called by titles. 15. Leadership help breakup marriages 16. Leadership is suspicious of all ministries that are in their area or region & don’t fellowship with them.
In this podcast Scott talks about the difference between winning versus losing mindsets. Galatians 6:9 “Don’t grow weary in well doing for in due season you will reap if you don’t faint.” The mediocre mind is a quitting mind What are some aspects that cause people to give up or quit? 1. They refuse to take ownership of their responsibilities. Those who lack ownership will never have a sense of purpose for corporate visions. They are usually the first to start or buy in to a vision but they quickly fade because they refuse to take ownership and ownership means responsibility. 2. They aren’t willing to put in their time. Time is the great commodity that we don’t get back however if we invest it wisely then we will surely reap the benefits of the time we have invested. In a corporate or church setting those who invest their time by serving or attendance show that they have skin in the game. 3. They aren’t willing to do the hard work. Work has to take place to see vision unfold in every area of our lives but it is the hard work that separates excellence from mediocrity. Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Diligence is hard work and those who quit easily alway shy away from the grind of excellence. 4. Distracted by other things. Those who get distracted easy are the same ones who usually go from job to job, relationship to relationship and church to church looking for something new to give them an adrenaline boost. Those who quit usually give up between a year or two interval and their excuses are always because of a new thing that’s shiny. A new distraction that keeps them from being truly invested in the vision they are partnered with. 5. Excuses. It’s been said that limitations are for those who have them but excuses are for those who want them. Excuses are a way to justifying a mediocre mindset. The more we make excuses for our lack of follow through we enable a poverty mindset to grow. A poverty mindset isn’t just about money but it’s living a life of mediocre possibilities. Quitting is not an option for the person who is truly invested. Quitting is the option for the person who is content on never accomplishing anything of significance. Don’t be a quitter. Quitters never win and winners never quit.

“But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 NKJV It’s easy to inspire people about God’s purpose for their lives. People truly love and laud God’s promises but not His process. When God breaks through to our life in power we must follow through in process. Process is what separates the person who has been touched by God versus changed by Him. The church is full of people who have been touched but not changed. The key component to being changed is the process of having our minds renewed. God’s process isn’t a quick fix or a hocus pocus your in focus...God’s process will take you through waiting, long suffering and wilderness seasons that will help mold you into a Dread Champion because of the process of changing. When God breaks through in power...we follow through in process. Don’t despise the process. 420fire.org You can also follow special guest Chad Burroughs on Instagram @riseinside @rescue1global
