What Do Our Excuses Say About Us? | Christ For YouLuke 14:15–24 | Trinity 2A man prepares a great banquet. The invitations go out. Everything is ready. And then everyone starts making excuses. Why do people stay away from God? Are they really too busy, too tired, and too overwhelmed? Or is something deeper going on? Why does Jesus say the master becomes angry? What makes an excuse so dangerous? And if we've all made excuses, what's the difference between those outside the banquet and those sitting inside?Who are the poor, crippled, blind, and lame? Why does Jesus want you to see yourself among them? What does it mean that Christ not only invites sinners to His feast, but prepares the feast Himself through His death and resurrection? This Trinity 2 sermon examines what really keeps people away from God and why there is no better place to be than at Christ's banquet.Subscribe & Share:Spotify: Christ For YouPortuguês: Cristo Para VocêWebsite: ZionWG.orgLooking for a Lutheran Church near you?Support the preaching of God's Word.

We start off talking about an informational booth we staffed at the Old West End Festival in Toledo and how the event was affected by gun violence. The festival is an important outreach opportunity for our small humanist group. All our volunteers were safe, and we were glad with the festival's decision to cancel the Sunday schedule. We discuss our concerns about desperation of young people in the city, the limits of police response, and the broader problem of easy access to guns.Next we reflect on changing cultural norms by looking back at older films and music we enjoyed in our youth. We discuss how some works now feel dated or offensive, including films Airport 75, Valley Girl, Gone with the Wind, Birth of a Nation, and some early Eddie Murphy comedy material. Culture does change over time and people should be treated with basic worth and dignity.Full Show Notes & LinksSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our merch

In a scathing critique, the speaker takes aim at the hypocrisy of politicians who claim to be loyal to their constituents but only reveal their true convictions when it's no longer relevant. Using the examples of John Cornyn and Bill Cassidy, two Republican senators who recently lost their primaries, the speaker argues that these politicians have a history of changing their stances to appease their party leaders and donors. This episode delves into the world of politics, where the lines between loyalty and deception are blurred. The speaker examines the ways in which politicians use their power to manipulate the system and avoid accountability. From the use of cloture to the importance of voter turnout, the conversation covers the intricacies of the US Senate and the ways in which politicians can maintain a veneer of loyalty while secretly working against the interests of their constituents. The speaker also touches on the topic of voter fraud, citing the example of California's slow and contentious election process. They argue that the state's approach to election administration is not only inefficient but also creates an environment where misinformation and conspiracy theories can thrive. The conversation also explores the implications of this issue and how it affects the democratic process. If you're tired of being misled by politicians who claim to be on your side, tune in to this episode to hear the speaker's take on the state of politics and the importance of holding our elected officials accountable.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this episode, we explore the topic of Excuses and Results. Priscilla shares that you can have excuses, or you can have results, but you can't hold both at the same time. This isn't a conversation about productivity. It's a conversation about identity, self‑trust, and the version of you that's trying to emerge. We dive into the difference between promises and commitments, and why excuses become the escape routes we build to avoid the discomfort of becoming who we said we wanted to be. You'll learn why excuses feel so convincing, how they protect us emotionally, and what it looks like to step into a deeper, embodied state of commitment. If you're ready to stop negotiating with your potential and start honoring the future version of you who's already cheering you on, this episode will speak directly to your soul. Stay until the end for three powerful reflection questions to help you turn promises into commitments, and commitments into results. Thanks for listening. Send us Fan MailTrent goes solo for a brutally honest talk about Air Force Basic Military Training changes, Special Warfare expectations, and the dangerous mindset that causes people to quit before they've even truly started. After spending more time around BMT and the Special Warfare training environment, Trent breaks down recent changes to Special Warfare flights, why trainees are stressing over losing dedicated pool time, and why most people are focusing on the wrong problem entirely. This episode digs deep into identity, pressure, expectations, and the mental trap of searching for “off ramps” instead of solutions. Trent explains why some people make it through the pipeline no matter what changes happen—and why others subconsciously start searching for excuses the second conditions become imperfect. Then he talks training philosophy, swimming adaptation, why your IFT pace should feel easy, how bad habits destroy candidates, and why purpose—not motivation—is the thing that actually gets people through hard selections.Bottom line: if you've already decided you're gonna make it, then the obstacles become problems to solve—not reasons to quit.⏱️ Timestamps:00:00 Another Trent Solo Episode 02:00 Working Around Air Force BMT 04:00 MTIs Know Who the Special Warfare Trainees Are 06:00 Carrying the “Special Warfare” Label 08:00 You Haven't Started Yet 10:00 The IFT Is the Real Starting Line 12:00 Changes to Special Warfare Flights 15:00 Losing Dedicated Pool Time 17:00 Why Guys Are Panicking About BMT Changes 19:00 Swimming Should Feel Like Running 22:00 Zone 2, Water Confidence & Volume 25:00 Stop Trying to Beat the Water 27:00 Focus on What You Can Control 29:00 Why Your Cals Need to Be Dominant 31:00 Old School Pipeline Stories 34:00 Looking for Off Ramps 37:00 The Guys Who Quit Easily 40:00 Injuries vs Excuses 43:00 Why Some People Never Let Go of the Calling 46:00 The “Itch” to Serve 49:00 Marriage, Commitment & Long-Term Thinking 52:00 Visit the End Goal—Then Return to Today 55:00 Attrition Rates Never Really Change 58:00 The Mindset That Always Wins 01:00:00 Purpose Over Motivation 01:02:00 Operator Training Summit Advice 01:04:00 Final Thoughts

Coming off the high energy and incredible feedback of their milestone 500th episode, hosts Mark Cardone and Theron Feidt dive straight into a topic everyone deals with but rarely wants to face: excuses. In business, marketing, sales, and life inside the dojo, we hear them constantly. But while we easily spot them in others, we rarely notice when we are making them ourselves. In this episode, Mark and Theron break down the critical difference between a legitimate reason and a recycled excuse, exploring how excuses are ultimately rooted in fear or a lack of excitement. To help you audit your habits and shift your mindset, they break down three immediate action steps to eliminate excuses and step into a higher version of yourself. Key Takeaways & Action Steps Action Step 1: Run the "Replay Test" The first step to conquering your excuses is catching them in real-time. If you find yourself giving a reason for why you didn't get something done, ask yourself: Have I used this exact line before? If you have, it's no longer a reason, it's a recording played out of comfort or habit. Your Challenge This Week: Write down your three most frequently used excuses. Seeing them on paper strips away their power, breaks the pattern, and exposes the underlying fear, judgment, or discomfort you might be trying to avoid. Action Step 2: Pre-Decide What is Acceptable Don't wait until you are tired, unmotivated, or snuggled in a warm bed to decide whether you're going to follow through on your commitments. Make those choices when you are calm and clear-headed. Establish Your Boundaries: Write down a tight, intentional list of true reasons you will accept for missing a needle-moving task (e.g., actual injury or family emergencies). The 24-Hour Rule: If you are caught in a gray area and want to bow out of a commitment, give yourself 24 hours before honoring the excuse. If the feeling completely evaporates after a day, it was just an emotional excuse, not a legitimate reason. Action Step 3: Run Every Excuse Through Your Identity True personal growth requires being better than who you were yesterday. Your identity is shaped by the present-tense actions of the person you are actively deciding to become. The Identity Filter: Write a one-sentence description of the highest version of yourself (e.g., "I am a fit, trustworthy, and disciplined leader"). When an excuse pops up, hold it up against that sentence. Excuses are essentially lies we tell ourselves and others; if your excuse doesn't align with your new identity, it has to go. "Instead of making better excuses, we're really going to have fewer excuses. When we boil it down, we end up with legitimate reasons... and then we can adjust to work around them." Excuses build nothing. Ownership builds everything. In this episode of The Level Up Podcast, Paul Alex breaks down the mindset that separates weak leaders from elite operators: extreme accountability. Let's be real… It is easy to take credit when revenue is up. It is easy to celebrate when the team is winning. It is easy to look like a leader when everything is working. But real leadership shows up when things break. When the launch fails. When the team drops the ball. When the numbers are down. When the pressure is on. In this episode, you'll learn: Why blaming the economy, algorithm, or team destroys your power How taking ownership gives you control over the solution Why great leaders fix systems instead of just punishing people How accountability builds loyalty, respect, and a stronger culture The truth is simple: If it happened inside your company… It is your responsibility. Maybe the training was weak. Maybe the system was broken. Maybe the wrong person was in the wrong seat. But the buck stops with you. And when you own the failure… You earn the right to own the victory. Stop pointing fingers. Grab the wheel. Fix the problem. Protect your team. And lead from the front. Your Network is your NETWORTH! Ever felt like you're following all the right steps but still missing something deeper? Many people walk through church doors confident in their faith yet quietly shackled to old habits, unhealed pain, or a fear of never “arriving.” Pastor Kevin describes this as the difference between getting wet and actually going swimming. Between being close to truth but not fully saturated by it.Pastor Kevin unpacks why so many well-meaning people settle for surface-level Christianity, never realizing how much God longs to set them free. He reminds us that real change, doesn't come from louder declarations or checklist spirituality, but from a daily, honest encounter with Jesus and his word.Whether you're brand new or wrestling with old doubts, you're invited to belong, to try again, and to ask, “Do I really want to be free?” There's space for your questions here, and a next step that's actually doable. You don't need to fix yourself first—just come prepared to move forward.Scriptures ReferencedPsalm 16:6; John 5:1-8, 5:14-15, 8:31-47, 15:13; Galatians 5:1; Ephesians 6:12; 1 Corinthians 1:18; 1 John 4:7Key InsightsSettling for spiritual “proximity” leaves us dry and unchanged. On this epsiode of the JT Sports Podcast, JT reacts to why the Pittsburgh Steelers don't need to tank to find their future quarterback and why chasing wins every year isn't the real problem in Pittsburgh. JT also breaks down the Baltimore Ravens getting back to being the Ravens with Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Jesse Minter, and a more physical identity. Can Sean Mannion unlock the best version of Jalen Hurts, or could the Eagles offense hold Philly back? Is 2026 officially the no-excuses year for Bryce Young in Carolina? JT also responds to Falcons offseason backlash, explains college football's quarterback development problem through Drew Allar and the Steelers, and looks at why the Patriots can't afford to lose the A.J. Brown race as Drake Maye's future ceiling comes into focus. All that plus NFL offseason storylines, CFB development questions, NFC South pressure, AFC playoff angles, and more.
Ken and Lima dug into the full James Harden experience — the flopping, the landing area manipulation, the love-hate relationship every fan base goes through — and landed on the uncomfortable truth that when he's working for you, it's one of the most satisfying things in basketball, even if the rest of the league is fuming about it. Former Cavalier Danny Green broke down exactly why Harden is such a perfect fit for this roster, while Lewis Riddick's angry tweet became a jumping-off point for why Harden's style will always divide people no matter what city he's in. With JB Bickerstaff still whining about calls and Detroit's profile as the NBA's most fouling team backfiring spectacularly, Ken and Lima made the case that Cleveland isn't just winning this series — they're winning it in the most aggravating way possible for everyone outside Northeast Ohio.
