A dragon? An alligator with the worst hands ever? What sort of cruel creator god reigns over Eternia?        One of the most nasty baddies, his true devilry is on full display in the Filmation episode "The Horn of Evil", in which good ol' Clawful and Trap Jaw steal an ancient artifact which basically spews out pure, unfiltered evil all over Eternia, and even as Trap Jaw begins to wonder if they've gone too far, Clawful demands "even more evil" like the insane crab/dragon/demon he is! Jeff-At-Arms had some business to attend to, so please enjoy this special episode with guest host, Lee Bokma, from The Art of Lee Bokma! Initially conceived as a larger play set, Point Dread and the Talon Fighter cam out as a vehicle/play set that could attach to Castle Grayskull! This alone blew our little 80's kid brains, so you can bet Orko's hat every cool kid on the playground wanted one of these bad boys!!                           If you were super lucky, you also got the version of the Talon Fighter and Point Dread that came along with an included storybook AND record with the story completely voice acted and everything!!! With all the spills and chills of the cartoon, this story was a MUST LISTEN when you cracked open this sucker for the first time!! There was also a mini comic that had similar cover art, but the story was completely different! Continuity is for WIMPS!!                         As an added little bit of trivia, it's no secret Mattel "borrowed" from it's other toy line "Big Jim" for some of the vehicle and play set design for MOTU. The Talon fighter is no exception when you compare it's design to that of the "Big Jim Space Jet"! Behold it's almost Talon Fighter-like glory!!                                                Please be sure to like, share, and subscribe! Scary Salutations and Ghoulish Greetings, MEGA listeners! Halloween is just around the corner and what better to celebrate than with our good friend, Candy from Pop Culture Exchange!! If it's a retro/vintage toy you're after, they either have it or can help you get it!                                   We first start off with discussing a MOTU character so potentially scary that Mattel decided to "nerf" him a little bit and sell his action feature as less scary than it actually was! We're talking about the "so late in the line that there's no way we can joke about him being in wave 2", MOSQUITOR!! A downright scary looking monster/hybrid mix of a villain, Mosquitor had the action feature of draining the "power" out of whomever he was attacking.                            It just so happened that when he'd drain someone of their "power", a red, viscous liquid would flow and gurgle around in his chest cavity. Yup .                      Even though he may have been late to the party, Mosquitor was not hurting in the "he looks awesome" department. He had a crazy robot needle nosed face, a cool looking insect style gun, and a pair of sick looking future boots! Since we were hanging out with a buddy who just happened to own the most amazing toy store this side of the Mississippi, we ALSO started talking about other toys that featured some sort of blood or bodily function as an action feature! Meet, Gre-Gory!                   A big rubber bat toy with a chest filled with "blood" that you'd mush around by pressing a spot on his back! Candy brought one in for us to check out and boy o' boy, was this a fun and weird toy! Scare your wife! Chase away those pesky solicitors! Hang out on the couch and watch vampire movies with him! Gre-Gory isn't JUST a scary bat filled with toy blood, he also wants to be your FRIEND! And what discussion about toys that featured bodily function would be complete with out talking about...PULSAR!!                                I love the 1970's. Hey kids!! Wanna play with an action figure of a middle aged man with white hair, a track suit, and a clear chest so you can see his lungs fill with air, his veins pump with blood, AND pop open his face to touch his BRAIN?!?!? 1970's Kids: YEAH!!!!!! Evil-Lyn - Episode 81

We've been putting this off for too long! It's about time we discussed one of the best villains of the MOTU, and we can't wait any longer! In this thrilling installment of "MEGA", we've discuss our thoughts on the character of "Evil-Lyn" the dangerous, conniving, and gorgeously evil sorceress, who's always plotting on double-crossing Skeletor as some point in time or another!                 One of the few villains featured in the 1980's cartoon that WASN'T portrayed as a complete idiot, Evil-Lyn could bring the pain like no other, and at one point even demonstrated her badassery by turning the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull into a gosh darn tree!                                        Of course it wouldn't have been Mattel in the 1980's if there wasn't zero concern about continuity in the toy line so THIS is what we got to play with fro the character you saw in the beginning of these notes:                                  The official narrative from Mattel is that the toy designers felt that this color palette gave her a more sinister look, but we here at MEGA know better. They had a shipment of lemon yellow plastic show up and the cigar chomping executives told the employees to "make a toy the dumb kids would play with" and that was that. Luckily the 2002 reboot graced us with THIS version of Evil-lyn and all was wet right in the universe.               And we'd be complete idiots if we didn't mention the delightful portrayal of Evil-Lyn by the one and only Meg Foster!! Pretty much pulled part and parcel from the cartoon, Evil-Lyn was terrifying and easy on the eyes in the MOTU movie (now cult film hit) from 1986!                                                 Now matter which version of Evil-Lyn is your favorite, you're still a winner in our book! She's hands down on of our favorite characters in MOTU and we hope you enjoy OUR take on her in THIS episode!

    Gwildor - Episode 80

It's easy while talking about all the muscle-bound heroes, warriors, and monsters of MOTU to forget about the "little guys". The ones who are all too easily looked over and taken for granted, and then, before you know it...BAM!! You have either a gigantic strawberry stuck on your head, or you're being whisked away through a portal, taking you from Eternia to mid 1980's Earth!!! It's in this spirit we felt the need...no, the DUTY to discuss the often overlooked, but never quite loved, Gwildor!!!   Gwildor was a NEW character, the creative staff over at the "Masters of the Universe" film were basically forced to create after they realized that faithfully getting a believable Orko onscreen was impossible considering the special effects technology of the 1980's. So we got Gwildor! A Thenurian (a race of troll like being on the planet Eternia) who is equal parts bumbling as much as a genius inventor, who in a rush to avoid capture by the evil forces of Skeletor, accidentally sends himself, He-Man, Teela, and Man-at-Arms into a portal through space and time, where they land on Earth, circa 1987! And then the hilarity ensues! Burning High Schools, shifty pawn shop owners (this baby's from JAPAAAAN), and barbecue ribs! Never featured in the animated series, Gwildor DID make it into one comic (the one the vintage toy came with) and frankly, seeing Orko have to interact with his cinematic replacement is sorta heartbreaking. Not much care seemed to go in his vintage toy as well. Hollow, and not necessarily matching the aesthetic of the original Mattel figures, Gwildor seems woefully out of place. He was re-released in the early 2000's in the "Classics" line with a much cooler looking sculpt and a "cosmic key" that looked waaaay closer to the original film version. You know, the device the aforementioned pawn shop owner believed to a funky Rick Wakeman style keyboard. Ahhhh those silly, know it all pawn shop dealers. Please enjoy our thoughts and take on the one and only Gwildor!

As we continue revisiting some of our favorite MOTU characters, it dawned on us (again) how absolutely badass and cool this character truly is! This is the sort of dude that if you saw coming at you from across the street, you'd throw whatever you had in your hands at him and run for the hills (while openly weeping, of course).                Blessed (or cursed, perhaps) with the ability to see through and around objects (I only say cursed because seeing through your puppy's body as you're trying to play with him as a kid is 100% nightmare inducing), this skilled assassin/bounty hunter could also use his amazing abilities to see long distances and (in the original animated series) blast lasers from his front facing eye! Also he was sick shredded and had a jawline that you could cut granite on, and was originally conceived as a heroic warrior, who would later be used as a villain in the series, and was purported to be a near match to He-Man in regards to his strength and awesomeness.                     So without further ado, we present to your, our episode featuring Tri-Klops!!

Mix one part cyborg, one part bear trap, one part zip line, and stir with a heaping spoonful of evil, and you get Trap Jaw! If someone asks you to name off the iconic evil characters of He-man, there is a good chance that Trap Jaw's name would come up very quickly.  That's because of two reasons, #1 - He is downright AWESOME!  And #2 - You couldn't swing around a bag of nickels without hitting him in an episode as he was in nearly every one of them! Trap Jaw was a part of Wave 2 of the Masters of the Universe toy line, but let's face it, he was Wave 1 in our hearts.  He was one of Skeletor's most notorious evil henchmen with quite the backstory.  There was definitely a lot to explore in this redo of one of MEGA's favorite bad guys.  So sit back and enjoy Jeff and Eddie's thoughts of the one and only, Trap Jaw! Trap Jaw in the 1983 Filmation cartoon, which did a very good job to make such an evil looking dude, so lovable! Trap Jaw was one of the very few characters to be released in Wave 2!

As we went some of our original episodes to revisit some of our favorite characters, we realized we'd be completely remiss if we didn't discuss this next one! One of the first wave of action figures, and arguably one of the "trinity" of the hero characters, this is THE person you want by your side: Man-At-Arms!! Part weapons master, part mentor, part grumpy uncle, and all around cool guy, Man-At-Arms is ALSO the bearer of Prince Adam's secret (pssst Prince Adam is He-Man), AND  the kindly adoptive father to Teela (pssst The Sorceress is Teela's mom!) This guy has more going on in his life then the your average weapons master! Please enjoy our take on Man-At-Arms and also please enjoy as Jeff shares some great excerpts regarding Man-At-Arms' ultimate fate AND some great details on the action figures as well! Behold 1983 Duncan and 2002 EXTREME DUNCAN!!! Duncan is all about eating ribs! Just don't tell Teela what they're made of. The 2002 MOTU Reboot Man-At-Arms is pretty amazing. When Beast-Man was all the rave we were looking right at Whiplash. When our friends brought their Man-at-Arms figure over to play, we had our Kind Randor at the ready. With all of that being said, one of the characters from the latter waves of MOTU that has captured our heart and imaginations is the one and only Rio Blast! Dragstor - Episode 65

In what very much seems as Mattel's last bid to attempt to cater to kids' shifting interests in the mid/late 1980's, the toy company decided to "open the gates" on the character designs and seemingly release concepts hat had since been held back. In the world of MOTU the base foundations of swords and sorcery were apparent,  but as the toy line and cartoon grew, so did the mythos. Not only did tiger-riding barbarians fight along side sorceresses and flying monkey-men, but now they had cyborg elephant-headed warriors and space cowboys on the team too! Some strain was beginning to show. What seemed to hint at the engine of creation starting to stall however, was the introduction of a character to seemed to almost belong to another universe all together; part Horde warrior, part GI Joe figure, and part Transformer, this character seemed to try to be everything to everyone. Dragstor came zooming onto the scene towards the end of the MOTU run and is generally met with a fairly tepid response by most MOTU fans as his entire design and power set is confusing when compared to the other toys in the line. That, and the lack of a toy function that did what was advertised to do in the comic and commercials, the "meh" that Dragstor was met with by children was audible. We DO realize we're saying this with full knowledge that this universe also has a cowboy who has guns hiding in his chest and thighs. Our take away was that by trying to appeal to everyone, this character ended up appealing to very few, but (much like your crazy Cousin Eddie) he STILL has a home in the MOTU and we're talking about him NOW!

One of the villains of the Evil Horde, Mantenna was probably one of the more fun characters in that his powers and "action feature" were over the top and a straight up bonkers. His character design, and overall look were a bit scary, but still weird and cool enough to intrigue all fans of the MOTU. Using his telescopic eyes to spy on the good guys AND using those crazy-eyes to shoot all manner of beams into their faces too?!? Hope to Procrustus that Santa is keeping an eye on you and NOT Mantenna! Mantenna didn't play around, even if he WAS treated poorly by the other members of The Horde, he'd still give them the evil bug-eye and creep just about anyone out. Jeff met up with another fellow local podcaster, Lee Searcey.  Lee hosts the podcast "Covert Nerd" based out of Lincoln, NE where he talks about everything and anything nerdy.  It was a great pleasure to share some time with him and swap some stories!   And lastly, as we stated, we got to meet up with a LOT of fans of He-man and She-ra the entire weekend.  We decided to sit down with Zorra Reed who happened who was a winner to one of our Giveaways that we were promoting all weekend.  Zorra tells a GREAT story on how she got into being a fan of She-ra and eventually He-man.
