For the honor of podcasts! It's our first episode dedicated to the Princess of Power: She-Ra. We start by covering Adora's five episode origin story on the iconic Filmation tv series. Then we talk comics that sees Adora become Despara in the 2013-2015 Masters of the Universe series from DC Comics in a new take on her origin. We wrap up by speculating about the upcoming 2026 Masters of the Universe film and when we may next see She-Ra on the screen or page. Grab your sword and your headphones and let's go! We start off by talking about her debut on her own Filmation series (don't call it a spin-off!) before exploring her revised origin story as Despara in a nineteen issue arc from DC Comics. Mike Joens put his faith in Jesus Christ while in the Marines. He went on to become a successful animator and has now created a series for children. (click for more)It was a dramatic turn in his life in 1972 when Mike Joens became a Christian while serving in Naples, Italy. For the next several years, he worked for studios such as Hanna Barbera, Filmation, Warner Brothers and Marvel Productions. He worked as an animator, storyboard artist, character designer and writer, honing his skills on every level, while learning the nuts and bolts of cartoon production. Mike's dream all along was to create an animated series for children that would teach God's Word. That happened with the production of Theo Presents, available on DVD here.Next Week: Quentin SchultzeSend your support for FIRST PERSON to the Far East Broadcasting Company:FEBC National Processing Center Far East Broadcasting CompanyP.O.

A semi-major FIFA mascot who came from a comic book isn't the craziest choice for a cartoon subject, but Sport Billy did not deserve to be saddled with the bizarrely bad acting of Lane Scheimer. Remember the days when action figures ruled our imaginations and epic battles between good and evil played out in our living rooms? Step into 1987, when a beloved toy line and animated series leaped onto the big screen in a live-action spectacle. In this 80s flick a intergalactic battle spills from the fantastical world of Eternia into our own. Marketed as the “Star Wars of the 80s, it didn't quite live up to the hype. But today it is remembered as a cult classic that brought our favorite toy characters to life in a whole new way. So jump through the travel portal, grab the Power Sword and shout, 'I have the power!' as Tim Williams and guest co-hosts, Chris Adams (from "Retro Life 4 You Podcast"), Gerry D (from "Totally Rad Christmas Podcast"), and Laramy Wells (from "Moving Panels Podcast") discuss “Masters of the Universe” from 1987 on this episode of the 80s Flick Flashback Podcast. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover on this episode: The Throne Room set of Castle Grayskull was originally two large adjoining sound stages. The wall between the sets was knocked down to make one gigantic sound stage. At that time, this was the largest set Hollywood had seen in over 40 years. Production designer William Stout intentionally wanted the interior of Castle Grayskull to combine elements of both good and evil. In an online interview, Stout explained, "This was the seat of power for the entire universe. I reasoned that power is neither good nor bad; it's what you make of it and how you use it. Above floor level were what I called the Space Gods—giant bronze statues of those who had used the power based in that room for good. Below floor level was the dark side—demonic creatures that represented power used for bad or evil." Many reviewers compared the movie to the cartoon, but it was based on the toys. The toys initially portrayed He-Man as a barbarian in the first mini-comics, not as Prince Adam or Orko. Ed Pressman was interested in the property before the cartoon aired and purchased the movie rights for the Mattel characters, not from Filmation. In fact, later in today's program, we are going to air a portion of one interview with Bryan Osborne, an author and popular speaker for Answers in Genesis that we did on site at the Ark Encounter following his presentation on the global flood detailed in Genesis 6-9.Before we get to that, we are going to air an interview our longer-time listeners may remember from back in 2016 with Michael Joens, an animator and creator of Theo, a 15-episode series dedicated to teaching children God's Word and the gospel.Joens is a highly credentialed animator, having worked for studios such as Hanna Barbera, Filmation, Warner Brothers and Marvel Productions.Deuteronomy 6:6-7 says, “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.“What are “these words” that are to be on our hearts and taught diligently to our children? Biblical doctrines—truths about God and how we are to live and worship Him.But how? How can we teach biblical truths or doctrines to children? One excellent way is through an animated cartoon series called Theo. Our guest this weekend on The Christian Worldview is Michael Joens, the creator and director of Theo, a 15-episode animated cartoon series that we highly recommend and are offering to listeners. The production and teaching of biblical doctrines in Theo is of the highest quality and we encourage you to preview and order the series for your children and grandchildren. Six months after Batman's final broadcast on ABC, CBS premiered The Adventures of Batman, the character's first animated show, produced by Filmation. While the look of the show is totally divorced from the Adam West version, relying mainly on the comics, the influence of the live action show can definitely be felt in the writing; just ask “millionaire Bruce Wayne” at “Stately Wayne Manor.” This is a show we never saw as kids, or really at all until now, so this time we take a look at the cartoon, without any nostalgic rose-colored glasses. And we have a blast doing it! Then, in the episode's main segment, Rich Roney returns as he and Anthony break down a dozen key Silver Age comic book stories, including the first appearances of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Bizarro, the Phantom Zone, and Mon-El; early meetings with Robin, Supergirl, and Lex Luthor; and key tales like Superboy's public debut, Pete Ross learning Clark's secret, and the deaths of Ma & Pa Kent. Finally, Anthony introduces first-time guest Bryan Dempsey to discuss a selection of Silver Age comic book stories featuring Krypto and the Super-Pets, including "The Dog of Steel" (ADVENTURE COMICS #214), "The Super-Monkey from Krypton" (SUPERBOY #76), and "The Legion of Super-Traitors" (ADVENTURE COMICS #293).Support BATTLE CHRONICLE SOL-STRYKER from friend of the show V Ken Marion right here!Support the show and receive exclusive podcast content at Patreon.com/AnthonyDesiato, including the spinoff podcasts BEYOND METROPOLIS and DIGGING FOR JUSTICE!Visit BCW Supplies and use promo code FSP to save 10% on your next order of comics supplies. This week on It Was a Thing on TV we ask ourselves is there Life on Mars? Earlier in March, the movie Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire hit theaters. Two and a half years ago, we released episode 216, about the unrelated show The Ghost Busters from 1975. Produced by Kevin Smith and Powerhouse Animation Studios, Masters of the Universe: Revolution is the second entry of the animated superhero fantasy television series. Luke and Nathan get into the Netflix sequel to the 1983-1985 series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation, which ignores the events of The New Adventures of He-Man (1990). Following He-Man's return and Teela now assuming the mantle of the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull, Skeletor seeks revenge after being corrupted with a technological virus created by his master, Hordak.
WARNING: Do not listen to this episode unless you have seen the 2024 Netflix series "Masters of the Universe: Revolution" or do not mind hearing key plot points. Masters of the Universe: Revolution is the follow-up to 2021's MOTU: Revelation. That first series is an indirect sequel to the 1983-1985 Filmation series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” While Revelation has 10 episodes, Revolution is only 5. It was created by Kevin Smith, who was a Hall of Justice guest on Episode 182. It stars Chris Wood as He-Man, Melissa Benoist as Teela, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and Keith David as Hordak. Acclaimed voice actor Heath Martin makes his Hall of Justice debut to talk about the 2nd season (Revolution). In this episode, they talk about the storyline and how it is less controversial than Season 1. They also talk about changes in the cast, and how this storyline compared to the 2002 He-Man series on Cartoon Network.

The animation Filmation studio delighted kids in the #80s with classic #cartoons such as #He-Man, She-Ra, #Ghostbusters and Fat Albert, not to mention their final creation Bravestarr, a #scifi #western about a native American marshal and his man-horse 30/30 as they attempt to keep the peace on the planet of new Texas. Chris and Dave finally appear again for this Christmas edition! "He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special" is a nostalgic and beloved animated holiday special that premiered in 1985. Produced by Filmation, the same studio behind the "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" and "She-Ra: Princess of Power" series, the Christmas special brought together the iconic characters from both franchises for a festive adventure. The production of the special showcased the collaboration between Mattel, the toy company that created the He-Man and She-Ra action figures, and Filmation, the animation studio responsible for bringing these characters to life on the small screen. The storyline revolves around He-Man and She-Ra teaming up to save two Earth children, Miguel and Alisha, who accidentally find themselves transported to Eternia. Skeletor and Hordak, the respective nemeses of He-Man and She-Ra, also play central roles in the plot, adding excitement and danger to the holiday-themed narrative. The special not only aimed to entertain young audiences with its action-packed sequences and magical elements but also conveyed positive messages about the spirit of Christmas and the importance of goodwill. The production successfully captured the essence of the original series while infusing it with festive cheer, making it a cherished part of the holiday traditions for fans of He-Man and She-Ra. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/comics-in-motion-podcast/message

Tread Perilously's annual Star Trek month continues with a look at Star Trek: The Animated Series and the episode called "The Magicks of Megas-Tu." When the Enterprise's latest mission takes them to the center of the galaxy -- yes, you read that right -- they find Megas-Tu, a world where the usual rules of matter and physics are set aside for something that can only be described as magick. There, the crew meets Lucien, a jovial goatman who regrets ever leaving the Earth. Unfortunately, the arrival of the Enterprise leads to a rather literal witch hunt with Kirk, Spock, and the others on trial and professing their sympathy for the devil. Justin argues TAS fits into the Original Series ethos. He also adds Night of the Lepus to The Full Peril watch list. Erik tries to remember the stated stardate for once. The imprecise use of the term "quadrant" is discussed. Gene Roddenberry's proclivities, naturally, come up again. The Filmation method is critiqued. The story's focus on the Devil leads to a lot of talk about the development of both Judaism and Christianity. Baphomet's PR team succeeds in restoring his rep. Erik has trouble with the Charm of Making. Various gods are cast with older actors. James Doohan ends up the episode MVP and even the Ancient Astronaut Theory makes its way into the proceedings.

What's up, dudes? It's an episode so big I had to have 2 sets of guests! Yes, it's the space cop BraveStarr! I've got 3 new members joining my BraveStarr club: AA and CM Chuck from Just Another Friday Night, and Jeff Loftin from Lost Christmas! Everyone wanted to talk a BraveStarr Christmas and “Tex's Terrible Night!”In this 1987 Filmation version of “A Christmas Carol,” Marshall BraveStarr and his deputy 30-30 leave Fort Kerium unattended at Christmas. When Stampede and Tex-Hex plan to exploit the lawmen's absence with an attack, Shaman takes action Charles Dickens-style! Shaman magically transports Tex-Hex from his bed to the past! Tex is forced to relive leaving his love Ursula, double crossing McBride, (almost?) dying in a crash, and being reconstituted as a sorcerous bandit.Shaman then shows Tex the present. Evidently Ursula and her new beau are heading to Fort Kerium for Christmas! The future, in typical Dickensian fashion, is bleak and continues without Tex leading his gang. Yes, the grizzled outlaw sees and embraces his own tombstone!Tex rediscovers a bit of his humanity as he sabotages his master's plan to attack on Christmas Day. The town is saved, as is his long lost love! This one's got it all! Well, except all the ghosts… Rotoscoping? Check. Fewer animation frames per second? Yup. Stereotypical cowboy junk? Definitely!
