BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL...WHAT IS THIS? A confused cheesy 80s Star Wars rip-off featuring the leather hotpants wielding, legs for days blonde bombshell Dolph Lungren talking in a muddled Swedish, English, and dubbed language that undoubtedly served as an inspiration to The Room's Tommy Wiseau? Backed up by Gwildor, a furry fuckface Yoda-inspired, Ewok wannabe who gives Jar Jar Binks a run for his money. Does Masters of the Universe induce a massive homoerotic erection with accompanying belly laughs at Gwildor's Tomfoolery? Let's find out...(Head Over To Our Website for The Full Episode Notes!)A sample of the topics discussed during the episode that felt like an Eternia include: Ben did not have the power of Greyskull or air conditioning during the episode. Does Ben's Macbook fan work as hard as he does? Durex, are you looking for sponsors? Whilst Ben slaves away at the Floggers reboot, Dan's been reading books and hanging out with underage kids at the lake. Dan keeps going about on the new website. Instead of just talking Star Wars, Dan makes Ben list every Star Wars rip-off ever made. Dan goes through the entire history of He-man without taking a breath. Dan doubles down on his dislike for Review it Yourself's Sean and The Batman. Due to heat exhaustion, flaming laptops and boredom, Ben lets Dan talk and talk. Who or what is a Greyskull? Has Earth ever looked so dull? How many off-brand characters can one film have? What would a leather hotpants wearing, cape swooshing, sword-wielding intergalactic warrior identify as on Earth? What do Carol Brady and Cersei Lannister have in common? A thirst for blood? No. They would do anything for their children. A mother's love is as strong as the Force, as dangerous as crossing the streams, and as mystical as Gwildor's Cosmic Key. All generations have paid homage to the matriarch in film and television. But the 80s, well they did it with style! Today on Buzzn The Tower we will build the perfect 80s movie mom, borrowing from our favorite big screen mothers. I'm Mo Shapiro and joining me as always the man who will keep me from crying for the next sixty minutes, Max Sanders. And with that, Happy Mother's Day!
Some commissioners present Shat The Movies with films they admire, hoping for low wipe scores and eternal glory in the Pantheon of Shat. Others serve us straight from toilet, understanding their favorite films are turds and deserve a whole roll of TP. Listener Will C. is the latter. We're kicking off 2022 with "Masters of the Universe," a movie that makes "Star Wars" look like irrefutable science and makes "Conan the Barbarian" feel Oscar-worthy. This one's a real battle between our love of campy schlock and the hard truth that big budgets don't always mean good cinema. Was the Sorceress perfection or pointless? Should the movie have focused on Earth or Eternia? Was Dolph Lundgren a god or a goober? Is this Courteney Cox in her prime, and how do you pronounce Frank Langella? The Shat Crew debates all this and more while agreeing on one thing: Fuck Gwildor. After a month of match ups it’s finally here! The fans have spoken and they all have said the same thing – “I have the power!” The March Badness Champion – it’s the 80’s classic MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE!Here’s how IMDB Describes the movieOn the planet Eternia, Skeletor, played by Frank Langella has taken over Castle Greyskull! In his quest for all power, he has begun draining the Sorceress' powers. But when the Cosmic Key is discovered by Julie Winston (Cortney Cox) and her boyfriend Kevin Corrigan, they are thrown into the middle of a war where victory will make someone The Master of the Universe! “I have the PODCAST!” The gang travels first to Eternia and then back to Earth in Dolph Lundgren’s 1987 cult class, Masters of the Universe! We wonder aloud how to make a good He-Man movie, pitch some great spin-off material for Netflix, all while John grows increasingly antagonistic to wards this movie and towards mechanic/time traveler Gwildor. 0:00 - Intro 1:16 - John describes the plot in one sentence 3:23 - Was this a good movie? 10:12 - Half-Assed Internet Research (feat. Our 100th episode! Holy crap! Thank you to everyone for all the highs (and lows) of this podcast. Here's to the next 100! I don't even know what to say about this movie. I wish I knew where Gwildor was.... I wish I knew why He-Man kept losing clothing over the course of the film. I wish I knew why Evil-Lyn had those steely eyes.... I have lots of questions. The movie didn't disappoint, it was cheesy, creamy, terrible, confusing.... basically everything that Brian promised. .... and I never want to watch it again.
The universe is a big place, and it takes substantial power to be a master of it. Luckily, one man has that power: He-man! The real question is, who has the power to sit through Masters of the Universe to pass judgement on it in an attempt to decide if this movie holds up? We do, boppers! So listen up as we talk about Dolph Lundgren, synthesizers, and Gwildor on this week’s episode!
It's easy while talking about all the muscle-bound heroes, warriors, and monsters of MOTU to forget about the "little guys". The ones who are all too easily looked over and taken for granted, and then, before you know it...BAM!! You have either a gigantic strawberry stuck on your head, or you're being whisked away through a portal, taking you from Eternia to mid 1980's Earth!!! It's in this spirit we felt the need...no, the DUTY to discuss the often overlooked, but never quite loved, Gwildor!!! Gwildor was a NEW character, the creative staff over at the "Masters of the Universe" film were basically forced to create after they realized that faithfully getting a believable Orko onscreen was impossible considering the special effects technology of the 1980's. So we got Gwildor! A Thenurian (a race of troll like being on the planet Eternia) who is equal parts bumbling as much as a genius inventor, who in a rush to avoid capture by the evil forces of Skeletor, accidentally sends himself, He-Man, Teela, and Man-at-Arms into a portal through space and time, where they land on Earth, circa 1987! And then the hilarity ensues! Burning High Schools, shifty pawn shop owners (this baby's from JAPAAAAN), and barbecue ribs! Never featured in the animated series, Gwildor DID make it into one comic (the one the vintage toy came with) and frankly, seeing Orko have to interact with his cinematic replacement is sorta heartbreaking. Not much care seemed to go in his vintage toy as well. Hollow, and not necessarily matching the aesthetic of the original Mattel figures, Gwildor seems woefully out of place. He was re-released in the early 2000's in the "Classics" line with a much cooler looking sculpt and a "cosmic key" that looked waaaay closer to the original film version. You know, the device the aforementioned pawn shop owner believed to a funky Rick Wakeman style keyboard. Ahhhh those silly, know it all pawn shop dealers. Please enjoy our thoughts and take on the one and only Gwildor!
Today on the Toy Power Podcast we are joined by Dave from Dave's Video Graveyard (Paulie did not agree to the podcast being called "Dave's Video Daveyard") and Paulie. Paulie gets the TPP initiation in typical style (no, his nipples were not harmed in the recording of this episode). Then we jump into a review of the Masters of the Universe motion picture. Why does Castle Grayskull look like a 5G cell tower? Did Bill Conti get asked to show his workings to explain how he came up with his score? And just what did the hair and makeup team have on their mind when they designed Gwildor? No topics are out of bounds, especially not Chelsea Field's impressive T-Shirt and gun holster. But perhaps the most valuable lesson of all - don't stand next to Dolph at a firing range. The guys then embark on a special quiz designed masterfully by Frank, where there can be no winners. Except in the stakes of who uses the best hair conditioner. But does Davey use it on his Qwildor? "The cult classic???"This little "gem" from Cannon Films was released in 1987 and stars Dolph Lundgren, fresh off his role as 'Ivan Dragon' in Rocky IV as the hero of the planet Eternia, He-Man, a young Courtney Cox as Julie, a young woman planning to leave her hometown for New Jersey (huh?) after her parents' death months earlier, NCIS: New Orleans actress Chelsea Field as Teela, one of He-Man's closest allies, the great Billy Barty as Gwildor, a member of a peaceful race of inventors that runs afoul Skeletor's evil forces, and a film-saving performance by the legendary Frank Langella (Superman Returns, Frost/Nixon) as the villainous Skeletor. In this film, the forces of Eternia are being decimated by the forces of Skeletor and He-Man, Man-At-Arms (Jon Cypher), Teela, and Gwildor are brought to Earth where their war continues. We are back to having fun after such a heavy-handed episode of Boyz N The Hood. We laugh. We laugh some more. Then we laugh until we cry. What rating does Master's of the Universe get? Episode 32 sees Andy and Mitch face their greatest battle yet. The challenger? You may know her from such films as Astron 6's The Editor and Jen & Sylvia Soska's American Mary, it's Tristan Risk! Her chosen film? Masters of The Universe! A difficult film for Andy and one that he considers his first cinematic disappointment, Masters of the Universe, based on the line of figures by Mattel and (loosely) on the cartoon of the same name by Filmation, stars Dolph Lundgren as He-Man (for some reason) and Frank Langella, on absolutely blistering form as the Lord of Snake Mountain, Skeletor! The synopsis is as follows: When the evil Skeletor finds a mysterious power called the Cosmic Key, he becomes nearly invincible. However, courageous warrior He-Man locates inventor Gwildor, who created the Key and has another version of it. During a battle, one of the Keys is transported to Earth, where it is found by teenagers Julie and Kevin. Now both He-Man and Skeletor's forces arrive on Earth searching for the potent weapon. James Sawyer, Dylan Cook and myself talk bout the 80's classic movie starring Dolph Lundgren and an unknown at the time Courtney Cox! What are our thoughts on this film and what about Gwildor? Woud we have preffered Orko or did we like the Chicken loving Gwildor! make sure to hit play when we tell you and enjoy the ride as we talk about the only He-Man movie in existance (well at time of publishing this in 2017!)

We discuss the 1987 action/adventure/fantasy film "Masters of the Universe", starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella and Courteney Cox, what the hell a 'Gwildor' is and why his name is so prevalent, joke about how we'll never be bought by sponsors, and find some truly terrifying drawings of Skeletor on the internet.
By the power of Greyskull we are podcasting! Can we remake the film that helped end Canon films? Sure we can! Join us on this week's episode as we reimagine He-man & the Masters of the Universe as a live action film for today's audiences! [School of Movies 2016] This time around Sharon and I take a look at a movie nobody asked for a review of and that most people are either unaware of or just plain dislike. The 1987 attempt to bring He-Man to the big screen. Eschewing a land of swords and sorcery blended with crazy technology in favour of running around American suburbs at night dressed like utter plonkers this film was presented with the task of making space barbarian He-Man real and relevant to teenagers in the 80s. It fails, but it fails spectacularly and earnestly which, for us is enjoyable to watch. So out with the old Masters of the Universe and in with Gwildor, (the exuberant wizard-dwarf), Blade (the guy with the blades), Saurod (the guy who gets killed) and Karg (the over-designed glam metal housecat with a hook for a hand), in with Courtney Cox and in with Kevin! And VERY much in with bored-looking, pleasant-berserker; Dolph Lundgren's He-Man and ranting, gloating, aggressive Frank Langella's Skeletor. Whether you have fun watching the movie or not you'll probably have fun with us here.

1987's Masters of the Universe A prince turned warrior named He-Man battles against the dark lord Skeletor on the planet Eternia. He-Man and his comrades arrive on Earth and discover two teenage lovers to find the magical Cosmic Key. CheapSeat Reviews: the Podcast that explores the Hollywood film industry for the greater good.
It seems a shame that at the dawn of his career that the very intelligent, athletic, and talented Dolph Lundgren was handed roles that didn't fully utilize his arsenal. However, he did the best he could with what he had, and we couldn't be more pleased. This particular evening, under the flickering lights of the all-night Nighthawks Cafe, Matt and Trevor discuss two films from Lundgren's early career: ROCKY IV and THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE. One a generation-defining exercise in American propaganda during the Cold War, and the other a notorious attempt to cash-in on a commercial property that would help to bankrupt a production house. Full disclosure, we chose two Dolph Lundgren movies from our past, as a way to satisfy a listener request. Unfortunately, after re-watching these films, we feel that Dolph might have gotten the raw end of this deal, since these movies truly fail to encompass a truly remarkable human being. So, we'll probably be seeing a DAY OF THE DOLPH episode sometime down the road. We'd like to give the man his due... Because, man. We don't want this dude angry with us.

Lundgren... Langella... Cox... and Billy Barty as Gwildor... Yup, you heard me, Gwildor... It's Masters of the Universe! Rob mounts a stirring defense, heralding the film as a classic-- but the others are not easily convinced. Is Masters of the Universe an underrated gem? Does Courtney Cox out-act Frank Langella? Why does He-Man carry both a sword and a gun? Was Skeletor democratically elected? We attempt to answer these questions and more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
