After an almost 2 year hiatus, In Search of the Crystal Skull is back! Arun and Patricia discuss about the 2026 live action film Masters of the Universe based on the 1983 animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Taken place in the world of Eternia, a timid boy named Prince Adam was tasked of protecting The Sword of Power and heading to Earth for safety after an evil sorcerer named Skeletor threatens to conquer everything and stealing the sword to make him more powerful. However, he lost the sword and was stuck on Earth for 15 years living a mundane life. One day, someone found the sword and Adam retrieves it. Immediately afterwards, his childhood friend Teela from Eternia returns him home only to learn that Skeletor has taken over everything. When the film premiered in theaters, it received mixed reviews from critics and fans. It was a box office bomb making $102 million dollars out of a $200 million dollar budget and is currently 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. What did Arun and Patricia think of the film?

"I am Adam, Prince of Eternia, defender of the secrets of Castle Grayskull." We watched "Masters of the Universe" (2026), directed by Travis Knight, and yes, we have the power. Although this movie may have been made for a very niche audience, if you let your guard down, you might just have some fun. This production was a long time in the making, plagued by changes in the cast, directors, and studios, but the final product was worth the wait. Nicholas Galitzine shines as Prince Adam, the muscle bound Eterian hero banished to Earth, yearning for his fantastical home. All of us little gay boys knew the feeling of not belonging here! As hard a pill it may be to swallow, we can also report that the legendary b*ner k*ller, Jared Leto, is doing some fine work as Skeletor. He pines after He-Man, trapped in a homoerotic dance that our audience loved, and showcased some actual comedic timing. The supporting cast was fierce, the costumes were on point, and the cameos were plentiful. Overall, it's… not bad. But today it is remembered as a cult classic that brought our favorite toy characters to life in a whole new way. Here are some additional behind-the-scenes trivia we were unable to cover on this episode: The Throne Room set of Castle Grayskull was originally two large adjoining sound stages. The wall between the sets was knocked down to make one gigantic sound stage. At that time, this was the largest set Hollywood had seen in over 40 years. Production designer William Stout intentionally wanted the interior of Castle Grayskull to combine elements of both good and evil. [School of Everything Else 2023] This is quite an extraordinary case. A Netflix show released in two chunks of five episodes apiece, six months apart, back in 2021. 93% fresh with professional critics. And if you sit down and watch it, this is the best Masters of the Universe story ever told.  And EVERYBODY HATES IT!  Seriously, go check YouTube and get bombarded by the scorn and bile. Observe the 38% audience score. Try finding ANY positive analysis from the fans. It might get easier with time, (especially as a lot of folks only watched the first episode and then reacted with outrage, and many did not catch the second half of the series after all those months) but when we put this episode together our decision had to be to NOT second-guess all the people who loathe this show, and their reasons for hatred. Some cold hard facts about it: He-Man is killed in the first episode. From that point on, Eternia is in trouble, and that could have dire, far-reaching consequences. The focus is on Teela, Prince Adam's former bodyguard, furious at being lied to for years, and with her one job in tatters. But she's the one who has to get the gang back together, form an uneasy alliance with an old enemy, and journey to both Heaven and Hell in order to potentially make things right again. It has a stunning voice cast, including Mark Hamill, Lena Heady, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Stephen Root, Griffin Newman, Diedrich Bader, Susan Eisenberg, Phil LaMarr, Cree Summer, Kevin Michael Richardson, Tony Todd, Justin Long, Alicia Silverstone, and an all-too-brief cameo from Kevin Conroy.  It has true character growth, dramatic confrontations, untrodden ground explored, secrets revealed and bittersweet decisions made. It is exceptionally good, and apparently here is the only place you're going to be told about that.
