Our Mom's Favorite Podcast

It's 2022 and these dry guys will not be censored, and they don't give a you know what about it. One more week of sobriety clarity and this podcast might get an NC-17 rating worth a censorship warning. Just kidding, this might be the most wholesome episode of OMFP year to date, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

The brothers are back in action to start 2022 with a not so dry episode, and believe me when I say their unpickled minds bring the juice. The guys share resolutions; Nick has prescribed himself to be more present and Trevor has embarked on a fitness quest to run a marathon while also dry till then. Off to a great start they are, and we hope you are too. 

After a brief hiatus the boys of the pod are back with another episode with no real agenda except to talk about Owen Wilson, why Californians only crave In-N-Out when they can't have it and potential ideas for a certain brother's bachelor party. This blurb writer for one is very grateful to hear these lads back on the podcast scene and I hope you are too. Don't expect these brothers to actually say anything they're grateful for however, well except that they're happy you've continued to hit that download button.

He'll show you a side of Brooklyn you've never seen. In this rendition of OMFP the brothers recap Nick's recent pilgrimage to the city that never sleeps, I'm talking New York, New York. I hope the young lad didn't wear his dancing shoes as it sounds like there was a lot of walking and when there wasn't a lot of walking there was a lot of stinky public transit. I know two things to be true and that is you can eat a new slice a day for the rest of your life in the Big Apple and Trevor can in fact make a Yankee hat more famous than a Yankee can. 

The brothers kick off the end of summer with another edition of pre-season NFL predictions. If you forgot that this pod is a quasi-Raiders podcast you will soon forget that you even forgot. The guys have their first repeat guest on the pod, Z Rey, to breakdown the events of the off-season and who's positioned well to perhaps outperform from last year in a new season with limited COVID constraints. As always get ready for the hot takes and slightly not so slight fanfare bias to The Las Vegas Raiders (f/k/a The Oakland Raiders).

The Winklevoss twins star in this down right bizarre first date episode which can be described none other than a comedy of errors. If you've tuned in the last few weeks you'll know our favorite older brother Trevor is on the dating scene and it can only be described as *hot*. Special guest, Nina, makes her first appearance literally ever and we'll see if she makes another. If you're going to be in The Brooklyn area, consider dropping Trevor a line on Hinge.

The brothers are back at it for their big anniversary blow out extravaganza. If you've listened this long I can't help but wonder what's wrong with you? It's been a lot of fun and the brothers have definitely come into their own as amateur podcasters, and yes that has included many people now viewing them in a different light. You might say this episode is pretty “nectar” or that the brothers need to lay off the sauce, err, I mean nectar. Back to their regularly scheduled programming the guys fly solo (as a pair) into this week's episode without a special guest for their 40th episode. Hard to believe they haven't been taken off the air just yet and especially after enough F-bombs to warrant a R rating in the opening stanza of this installment. If you haven't gotten the hint by now you should know that these brothers can't cook but they sure can serve up some hot takes. Maybe by the time they get to the semi-centennial mark they can finally lock down their first sponsor. 

The boys are feeling a bit nostalgic these days and in true form run a DCOM draft (that's Disney Channel Original Movie for the the acronym inept). Given the subject matter it made logical sense to have none other than Beans on the pod to break down the top to bottom best of from the DCOM genre. There might be some questionable picks in the rotation but a great testament to what has stuck and what hasn't. Fire up your Disney+ to watch a classic this summer because we know you have an account. 

It's a hot vax summer and these pod hosts are itching for the masks to come off and the dogs to come out. Contrary to popular belief this is not an NBA podcast and as such the lads are covering everything from fashion, new summer styles and what they're most excited about with this opening up. And perhaps one of those things is going to a live sporting events, particularly an NBA playoff game, who's to say. Here's to the start of a wonderful summer ahead.

On this special emergency birthday podcast the guys wish a happy birthday to co-host, Nick. It's hard not to love a birthday especially when it's back-to-back with another brother of the pod. The topics of the day are wide ranging and non-sequential covering salsa bars to trips to Disneyland (only acceptable if you're not a hardo about it). It also has come out that our mom doesn't even know what the name of this podcast is, but given past and future vulgarities we hope she doesn't search too hard for these recordings and that these tapes can remain lost—at least to her.

“We actually get our players from something called the NFL Draft.” This week the guys discuss none other than the crown jewel of all off-season sporting events, the NFL Draft. The NFL Draft has long been a football fan's sole solace from late February to early August and this year is no exception. Quarterbacks abound and teams taking guys they might not need were the key themes of the opening round, and the guys review who came out ahead or who left them scratching their heads. No NFL episode is complete without a nod to the silver and black so the guys chalk up their predictions for the season and how the Ders new acquisitions will fair in Las Vegas.

After he'd been hounded to appear on countless podcasts (allegedly) the brothers were able to secure half-Asian sensation, Z Rey, as this week's special guest. Irregardless of the peculiar reason of their meeting, the brothers and their guest have forged a life long relationship rooted in mentorship from the old football days. Between this brother and these brothers there's been a lot taught and a lot learned and for this reason the brothers couldn't not have him on the pod (and also there's allegedly Padres tickets in play, I don't know)

The brothers give the people what they want but no one ever asked for the opening monologue vulgarities. They cover quite a bit of ground as they flash on and off to topics in a speed round about a little about a lot of topics. This includes a hapa draft, reference to Windy City Heat (mandatory viewing if you haven't seen it already), and a host of many other topics drawing on nostalgia. The episode gets back to the roots of why the brothers got into this business in the first place, to talk about what they want to talk about. Listen to them on your commute to work and don't forget to talk about the brothers aloud when you're home alone with no one but your favorite smart home device and FBI agent.

Quite possibly the greatest natural athlete to hit the pitch north of the Golden Gate, Nate V, is certainly a character in a league of his own. He enjoys strenuous physical activity more so than most and odds are you can't out drink him (but you can't drink all day unless you start in the morning). Nate and his brothers perhaps are the only trio that could hold their weight against the brothers who produce this podcast, and that's a fact worth debate. This one is a variety show to say the least, but buckle up this ones a long ride.

In light of the current environment the guys host their first ever book club in review of Charles Yu's Interior Chinatown. The brother's digest the book together highlighting pertinent key elements of the Model Minority Myth, representation and the grouping of all Asians together in America. Through their lenses they share their own experiences and understandings to better read and unpack the book, as well as talk more broadly on the stereotypes confining Asian Americans presently. Despite the strides of Asian Americans before them, the brothers have an important discussion on how Charles' book goes beyond just filling an entertainment void in your book lineup.

Everything is virtual or digitized these days and the NBA is no exception. In the latest form of tradable digital assets the NBA has introduced Top Shot, an exchange of collectible moments of everyone's favorite players. As the trading card game has boomed over last few years collectors and fans alike are trying to cash in on the scarcity and nostalgia of memorabilia, in whatever form that might take. It's like a certain uncle used to say everyone needs to collect something and even if just for the fun it will be interesting to see when (and how far) this thing takes off.

Everyone's got an opinion and they all stink, except for ours. Takes these days are best served hot, and that's just how we like ‘em. There's a whole lot of overrated stuff out there making too much mumbo jumbo, we're looking at you plain Asian food catered to gwailous, and the brothers are here to debate it all. Whether you like fries in your burritos or still think baseball is America's past time, odds are you'll be at odds with some of the grievances these brothers have to air. Who's to say?

As Dewey Cox once said, “it's a variety show, some singing, some dancing and comedy too.” This week on the pod the guys have likely the tallest guest the show has and will have on, Nolan (aka Foley). A long time friend of the pod the guys discuss Nolan's passion for music, both singing and producing, and learn a bit about his journey along the way. Music will forever be a part of culture and Nolan's been able to see up close what it is to go for it in the industry. No pod is complete without a little nostalgia and the guys talk about sneaker culture (particularly Nike basketball) and notable names in the industry that Foley has grown up listening to and has also met. 

A lot of good times at the J. You've been there, Nick and Kyle have lived there, and Trevor was there even before that. It's a crusty shit hole of a house, but it was their house. But to the surprise of no one that's not where the story actually starts. It actually starts in a elementary class room where the girls out numbered the boys which would prove to be a theme from their Catholic school days to those glorious Davis springs. Ride your bike over, bring a case of Natty's and make sure to take a shower before this episode.

You're new in town and you find yourself waking up on a certain guy's couch weekend after weekend and drinking coffee in the early hours of the morning. You might just have found one of those friends that you're always going to have a good time with. This week on the pod the brothers have a certain Uncle Omar on to discuss all things Sunset, grocery and of course they can't forget the master-gators. This trio of lads has certainly had their fair share of memorable times and as Omar says, those Santa Rosa boys are just about it. Oh and one last thing, don't forget to support your local liquor store.

This week on the pod the guys have long time listener first time guest, Big Jimmy R, on to discuss all things shenanigans. A long time friend of the pod some might say he got his start thanks to the lessons a certain father of the podcast taught the young hooper back in grade school, who's to say. The guys and James share fond memories of a certain club that shall not be named and that storyline cannot be brought up without mention of the perpetual ask of gas station ice cream sandwiches. Everyone loves a good origin story especially these brothers.

Sometimes things just don't work out the way we want them to, and much to the dismay of Rockets fans everywhere the guys welcome James Harden to Brooklyn. This isn't your typical episode. Yeah sure there's banter about the NBA trade of the year, but there's also a lot of talk about which NYC designer will be the first to nab a collab with the Beard or what food and culture scene the Harden will find himself. Either way the chances of Trev running into James Harden on a stroll through New York's most happening borough are better than ever. There's a whole lot of speculating, but perhaps no better speculation then what Brooklyn's new big three orders at a diner (and yes you're entitled to 2 go to orders, hungover or not).

After a much needed holiday hiatus the boys are back on the pod talking about goals and resolutions for 2021. In case you were wondering 2020 wasn't the greatest of years but controlling the things you can control and finding ways to explore the world from your apartment were key to sanity. Ringing in the new year the guys discuss a handful of resolutions and probably do more bantering than goal setting. Nick is going to run a marathon and that Trevor guy, well he's going to “laugh” more (and love and live, in that order). As for the 3rd brother who shall not be named he has 51 weeks to figure it out on a mustache. Despite being a disappointing year for most, 2020 brought us Our Mom's Favorite Podcast and for that we're thankful.

The brothers preview the upcoming NBA season and give hot takes, bold predictions, and an analysis on what's to come. They breakdown both conferences including the favorite picks in both and who might be fighting for a spot at the bottom of the West. Also in the lineup for this episode are predictions for the major awards and cases for and against their picks. It's going to be an interesting season with familiar faces in new places combined with the lingering effects of COVID in the mix that has the potential to curb any teams' chances.

They're going through changes! The brothers breakdown and discuss one of their favorite shows at the moment, Big Mouth. The show makes a comical commentary on a topic that should be relatable for everyone, going through puberty. In a strange way the show helps to demystify those strange changes and does so in a light hearted and in some situations raunchy way. The show brings in an all-star cast of guest stars for its fourth season, and the brothers breakdown their favorite moments and predictions for the next season as characters enter into high school. 

The brothers get back to the original scheduled programming and why you first started listening to the pod, a la just the two of them and none of those meddling guests. On this week's episode the guys chat about no other than Thanksgiving and what matters most on this holiday, and it isn't family. It's the food. And in typical fashion the guys do a fantasy draft of sorts to reveal their top picks.

For legal purposes what you're about to listen to is a complete and absolute joke, enjoy. This week's guest, Duncan, is Nick's best friend and partner in debauchery. Everyone has that friend when they're together it's always a good time, and sometimes too good of a time. That's Duncan and Nick. And the best thing about best friends is well your brothers have a good vantage of the stories that ensue. Whether it be middle school dances, one off misadventures or saving two brothers from getting their butts handed to them, best friends are the best for a reason. These guys get into some Joe Rogan level shit and it's not something you're going to want to miss.

At the half way point of the NFL season the boys discuss the silver and black with long time fan and brother of the pod, Chris. The fandom tree all starts with one man, the dad of the pod, and he'd be the first to tell you the Autumn Wind is a Raider. Chris has been a fan born out of his interaction with the brothers and there's no more perfect way to be introduced to the world of the Raiders. The guys recap a good 5 and 3 start for the Ders and talk favorite players past and present, and give an overview of what should be a good 2nd half of the season. Crack a Modwelo on the way into a the Coliseum and order up two hot atomics, this is going to be a good one.

The odds are if you've been friends with someone for over 10 years, that you'll be friends for a life time, and that's the type of guest the the guys have on the pod this week. A duo that's relationship was forged by a career of perfect long snaps and holds this weeks guest, Benj as he's known by the locals, has been a stalwart of the brothers hometown inner circle. As a teammate, coach, fantasy league rival and everything in between Benj shares his favorite moments involving the brothers and they discuss trips abroad, rugby and maybe even a few local watering holes. Also, are the brothers achieving some sort of notoriety, who's to say?

The guys have everyone's favorite Australian physicist and part time sanitation specialist, Sadie Schroeter, on the pod to discuss her life and times as a newly realized city gal finding her way in San Francisco. A friend of Nick's but not necessarily a friend of the pod, Sadie, has lived a very interesting life having worked a harvest in Australia and now starting a career at a university supporting eastern medicine. Sometimes the best things in life are what you haven't planned for and Sadie is a testament of someone who is just doing it and figuring out the misadventures along the way. 

The guys have special guest, future Dr. Ryan Chun, on the pod and discuss everything from growing up on Oahu to the culture shock of living in Utah as a dental student. Ryan is certainly a friend of the pod and has appeared on and off through the guys' lives over the last 8 years as a friend of their brother. The three share stories of their mutual connection and banter about all things oral hygiene. In typical brothers fashion you might actually learn something about dentistry and Hawaii. Grab a musubi and make sure you brush those teeth.

To kick off season 2 the boys have their first guest on the pod, none other than their actual brother. The guys ask their guest for a few tidbits on rugby, traveling and everything in between and of course the conversation lends to a comical time. There's a certain type of camaraderie that only brothers can have and whether it's basketball in China or behind a meat counter dishing out fresh cuts, the boys have and will always love having a good time.

The boys do a drunk history rendition of the first presidential debate. The guys jabber on using the transcript from the not so presidential debate with Trevor as Trump and Nick as Biden, and a ruffled voice by both for Chris Wallace. Certainly the debate was a shit show to say the least and if anything this reading is a bit more clear than the live version but who's to say?

The boys talk about rugby and how the game has created friendships, memories and maybe even some enemies over the years. Having played at the high school, college and men's club levels, the guys talk about their journey chasing the odd shaped ball and how the game and culture has had a lasting impact on them through the people they've met from all over. Rugby has always been the medium for brotherhood, camaraderie and more than anything, a damn good time. Whether you've been a rugger for a decade plus or you're just lacing up the boots for the first time, rugby is a game for all and a great way to build friendships that can endure the test of time.

The boys talk about a tale as old as time, dating, but not just any dating, online dating. Who's to say where you can and cannot find love? In this episode the guys discuss their experiences and cultural significance around meeting potential mates through the various dating apps and how this experience, although modernized, isn't so different than the past. Everyone's looking for either love or a good time and the guys speak candidly about their yays, nays and rules of the road on all things dating apps.

The boys discuss their indisputable fandom of the silver and black and how the former Oakland Raiders played a broader role in their lives. They share their favorite moments and memories from a decade plus of attending games and preview their hopes and aspirations for what is to come in the 2020 season as it kicks off. The Autumn wind is a Raider and although the guys won't won't be seeing the Raiders in person this year, well neither will anyone else.

The boys discuss the paramount American breakfast, the iconic and timeless McDonald's breakfast (this podcast is not an endorsement of McDonald's, but who's to say, the brothers need sponsors!)There is seemingly nothing as American or nostalgic as McDonald's and for whatever reason the classic breakfast finds itself at the forefront of fast food culture time and time again. The brothers share their favorite McDonald's breakfast stories all while simultaneously eating their Micky D's breakfast at the same time.

The boys discuss what they've been up to in quarantine including both moving at the start of the pandemic, starting this podcast, and making more time for themselves among other things. This certainly hasn't been an easy time for anyone but the brothers are here to ease the tension baby with some of the humorous banter we've all come to know and love. Whether it's reading a book or taking a long solitary walks that end in two (or three) donuts the brothers talk the importance of trying to make the most of the moment. 

The boys reminisce on their favorite hometown picks amid the prodigal brother's temporary stay at home. As is becoming standard on this pod the categories range from the everyday to the more obscure, and cover everything from the best burrito to the best place to bust a move on the dance floor. There's no place like home as they say, and the brothers are no exception to enjoying some time at home every now and again.

The boys review the latest installment by pop icon Taylor Swift and discuss the overall vibe, theme, and place her new album plays in the current culture. Typically not loyal fans of Taylor (that honor is reserved for the middle and unaffiliated Drake brother) the boys talk about the album as a whole and reference their thoughts on what's different, the same, and maybe a little borrowed from old Taylor and other artists of today. Everyone needs a little nostalgia and maybe even some sad girl vibes every now and again, and hey the boys are here for it. 

The boys discuss their favorite movie soundtracks and run another fantasy draft to decide which movie albums reign champion. Through the draft the guys talk about what makes a good movie soundtrack, nostalgia of listening to these albums at different points in their lives, and how certain songs can help make a movie scene iconic. It's a variety show, some action, some drama, maybe a rom-com or two, and definitely some soundtracks that will surprise you. 

The boys discuss the NBA restart in Disney World, taking an approach less focused on the games and more on the logistics of hosting the athletes in a safe environment for several months, including but not limited to everything from food to entertainment. They dive into player interactions and how we could see their effect on next season and the future. Given all the interesting personalities and the unique situation the players are in, the boys easily talk about some interesting bubble superlatives. The brothers acknowledge the stressful times but are hopeful the NBA restart will provide some entertainment value and slight reprieve.  

The boys discuss their beer origin stories and the culture surrounding craft beer, including growing up down the street from one of the country's most iconic breweries. Nick's chosen profession as a brewer and his college coursework to back it up provides for a holistic look into the beer scene. The brothers discuss what they've been drinking lately as well as some of their favorite picks from here and there. Local craft brews were harmed in the making of this episode.

The boys discuss the impact of Dim Sum on their lives as biracial, Chinese-Americans and the broader cultural impact of the Guangzhou originated food group that's developed a cult following in the US. From push carts and stamp sheets to gelatinous what do you call it's, the brothers run their "fantasy draft" of their favorite picks, sharing nostalgia and culture along the way. As Trevor always says, "It's called dim sum, not dim all," but after this quarantine is over you might want dim all with your friends. You're going to want to sit around a Lazy Susan after this one.

The boys discuss their thoughts on modern fashion culture and provide a brief history of their style evolution and the inspiration behind their fits. Rooted in rocking sneakers as a way of self expression at the base of a Catholic school uniform, the brothers profile the influence the NBA and creatives alike have always had on their styles even in a pre-social media world.
